Reviews for KoKo Resort
Review 1:Around the hotel seems to be dangerous because is a little bit pour so you can freak out the first time but then you notice the people around are friendly and they don't bother you!!
Review 2:It has a nice ocean view, you can practice kayak and have fun with friends at the balcony!!!! It's an awesome place to stay!! Each day Jack cooked different breakfast for everyone then served by his wife, the owners!!! They are very friendly people!!
Review 3:We were in Pink house and do not know about the other guest houses. Pink house was old and in a condition that was a disappointment to us especially with the price you have to pay during the high season and compared to the pictures in the net. Getting around was easy by boat it but costs about 5$ per person one way to get to other islands. The area near the resort is messy and full of dumped stuff including old tv set and construction material by the street.
Review 4:Jack and Lee are really making their best to make your stay comfortable. The breakfast is also very good.
Review 5:The location of the resort is nice and away from the bar scene. The pictures of the resort are misleading. Koko's was the most expensive place we stayed during our 18 day trip in Panama and the poorest quality. The cabins need some TLC and the better cleaning. The design and layout of the cabins is great, but they need better maintenance. The breakfast were hearty, though nothing special.
Review 6:Jack and Lee were very friendly and helpful with arranging transportation and tours. It was nice to be on the bay side where it was safe to go kayaking and swimming. There were four kayaks and a paddle board available for use for free. The shops and cafes are only a 15 minute walk away. The cabin we stayed at was on stilts over the water with a dock for viewing the ocean or just relaxing with a cool drink. The A/C in the rooms was highly effective and necessary.
Review 7:As one of the most expensive places to stay in Bocas, I would have expected the rooms to be a bit cleaner and better kept. The bed was uncomfortable, with only one sheet.
Review 8:Owners are very nice and welcoming. Great breakfasts.
Review 9:The bed creaks loudly, the mattress is old. The guests who had not locked their door at night, got robbed of their cash while they slept.
Review 10:Homey atmosphere. Attentive hosts, outstanding view, tastey breakfast, knowedegable and friendly tour guide that took us right from the hotel by boat for an all day tour.
Review 11:Very friendly and helpful hosts. We stayed in the apartment and it was so lovley. We had two bedrooms with attached bathrooms and a huge kitchen and a veranda.
Review 12:Jack and Lee are wonderful hosts, making the stay in the Orchid bungalow that much better. Breakfasts were good and different each day, with plenty of food. Jack and Lee's suggestions for excursions, restaurants and where to buy supplies were perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 13:The view is fantastic, on the water and a good view of the mainland mountains. The owners are generous, helpful and kind. We highly recommend the place. Ron Q.
Review 14:The fridge and stove where functional, but superficially clean.
Review 15:Ahhhh!...The layout of the cabinas with the breeze flowing through, thedecks, being on the water. Away from the bustle. Being with the locals. The view. The sunsets. Perfect!!We stayed for 8 nights and we wanted a) away from the tourist spots b) view of the water c) full kitchen. We got what we wanted and we loved it. We enjoy both luxury and glamping (glamour-camping) travel. Koko is glamping. The owners are great people and they made us feel right at home. Oh, yes, Jack's cinnamon waffles are delicious! Jack and Lee have a "notice to reader" on their site that aptly describes what Koko IS and what it IS NOT. Please read it. They are not misrepresenting their property. If you are a finicky traveller looking for pristine conditions...keep searching.
Review 16:The only thing we didn't like was the termites in the lodge (which we were assured our not damaging the structure and are regularly fumigated.) They left a mess every day and it made our stay a little uncomfortable.
Review 17:Jack and Lee are both very accommodating, welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed our stay.
Review 18:The hotel was composed of a really quaint main cabin where you would get breakfast, schedule tours and get to meet other travelers and a series of smaller cabins on stilts above the sea (very West Indies type of deal). The hotel is a bit of the beaten path, being a 5 minute cab ride (USD 1 per person) to town and next to local business such as a lumberyard. It can get a bit dark at night, but it's not dangerous. Bocas is a 5000 people town and everyone knows everyone. The locals are very conscious of the necessity of tourism for economic wellbeing in the region so this translates to relative safety. The cabins are clean, spacious and give you a lot of privacy. You get private hammocks overlooking the waterbed on both the main deck and your balcony (given you get a 2 story villa). There is daily complementary breakfast cooked on the spot by Jack and Lee will be happy to arrange any type of day trip you desire (from 20 people snorkeling excursion to a romantic get away to a secluded beach). The hotel provides complementary kayaks and paddle boards which are a must on sunsets. The wifi is pretty good but I urge you not to use it, your in vacation! To sum up, I wish I could've stayed for a month!!! get up and go to Bocas, it's seriously magical
Review 19:Could become a bit noisy if the neighbors have a reason to celebrate ;)
Review 20:Very nice owners and a special place right in the local neighborhood in a beautiful bay!
Review 21:We only stayed 2 nights, so there was nothing NOT to like.
Review 22:Jack and Lee were excellent hosts. Their breakfasts and coffee were fabulous. They are most helpful too!
Review 23:Roaches at night in bathroom and kitchen area
Review 24:Quiet, good breakfast, scenery, star fish, stingrays, free kayaks , close to airport ,safe, and Jack & Lee very helpful with arranging tours etc....
Review 25:There were termites always falling from the roof to the kitchen table. The toilet needed a better cleaning. The bed set didn't seem to clean, I would recommend them to change the quality of the sheets.
Review 26:It's an escape from the city. Relaxing, great nearby beach (Estrellita), cute downtown and full of life almost all day. The bungalows were really cute and mostly clean.
Review 27:We loved Koko it was a perfect location right on the bay...the Bocas brewery was excellent and right on the corner from Koko...the town was an easy $1 can ride away...the place itself was comfortable and clean and very chill
Review 28:It was a great and relaxing place to stay. Jack and lee made great breakfasts and the excusrions were fantastic! Definitely a worthwhile place to stay.
Review 29:The resort is surrounded by local resident dwellings in run down condition. There is garbage everywhere and it smells foul.
Review 30:The breakfast was the highlight.
Review 31:The location was 15 minutes walk from the centre of town, but the flip side is that you get beautiful waterside views of the bay.
Review 32:The owners made everyone feel comfortable and like one big family. They also helped everyone plan their days, giving advice and booking transport. We definitely got the most out of our stay as a result, doing things we hadn't thought of.
Review 33:My friend and I loved the fact that Koko isn't a traditional resort-it was comfortable and clean without being completely removed from regular Bocas neighborhoods. I think that allows you to disconnect from your normal routine a lot quicker and really enjoy your time in Panama. People were so friendly (the locals, the staff and fellow guests) and we really felt at home. Jack and Lee are wonderful hosts!!!!
Review 34:Others have mentioned the refuse that is visible at the shoreline. It's true, there is flotsam that accumulates under and between the houses that are built out over the shore. I think Jack and Lee do there best to set a good example for their neighbours. It's sad to see bicycle tires, toilet seats and plastic refuse laying about. Never the less there are clear efforts at neighbourhood upkeep and it would be great if there was an initiative for visitors to help with some conservation or clean up projects.
Review 35:Our hosts, Jack and Lee were wonderful. Very helpful with information about what to do and see in the area, arranged taxis and boat tours and recommended places to eat. Breakfast was a wonderful experience! We had the Island Suite which is not one of the cabins over the water but it was huge and gave us lots of space so we were really comfortable. Koko is right in the heart of the residential area and many of the panamanians living here are not too affluent. Walking so close to the neighbours and their homes is a good reminder that tourists are intruders in the lives of the people who live there. It's a bit uncomfortable and a good reminder to be courteous to the citizens of the host country. People were quietyly courteous to us without being outwardly or overtly friendly. A nice balance.
Review 36:The house was great but the only issue we had is that our water heater was replaced since it wasnt working. When it got replaced, it never got turned on. The 3 days we were there we didnt have much hot water.
Review 37:I loved the pink house and so did the rest of the family. Because we were travelling quite a bit, i didnt get to tell Lee what time we were arriving. We got there at 8 am and they were got us breakfast right away and then told us that the place would be ready soon. Lee and Jack were gret hosts. Not only did they make breakfast everyday but they called taxis and made reservations for us for dinner and excursions.
Review 38:Every night when I went to bed I had to clean my sheets from saw dust from termites, and every morning my pillow was covered in saw dust again.
Review 39:Awesome breakfast and great service from the owners! I loved the hammocks and rocking chairs on our porch! :D
Review 40:The beds were bad. All the garbage that was washing a shore horrible. Their units are showing wear heavily. They leak when it rains.
Review 41:The owners and their willingness to schedule the day or get you a taxi and breakfast was awesome!
Review 42:There wasn't much but I think that it would be nice to be asked what you would like to eat for breakfast. We saw a few visitors who wanted something small, or who may have had allergies, ask for something different, or for something to be removed from their plates, and they confided that they felt uncomfortable because of the reaction of the cook. That's the only thing that was problematic about ours, and others' stay.
Review 43:The staff were very friendly and helpful, and knowledgeable of the island and the surrounding areas. They arranged a day trip for us to see as much of the surrounding islands as possible, which was very reasonably priced. Additionally, the rooms was really large and comfortable with good facilities. Breakfast was also impressive.
Review 44:The owners Jack and Lee were awesome and made us feel like we were at home. The hotel and cabins were perfect for what we were looking for. Perfect distance away from town but within a ten minute walk. I highly recommend this hotel to families and groups.
Review 45:The place was dirty and nothing worked , needs some money spent on it I stayed in the pink house so I can't comment on the state of the other rooms
Review 46:This owners were very helpful
Review 47:One of the beds was too noisy
Review 48:Jack and Lee were great hosts, they are very friendy and helped us with everything we needed. Large nice cabins, good location, and great breakfast.
Review 49:Quite a walk from Bocas Town, approx. 15 to 20 minutes. The neighbor next to the bungalows started the day between 6 and 7 with very loud music, no sleep possible for us beyond that time (our stay was during Panamanian holidays).
Review 50:Very friendly owners, Lee and Jack from Ohio. Very helpful in every respekt, including organization of tours. Had us collected from the airport at no additional cost. Delicious breakfast. Very nive setting of the bungalow in the water.
Review 51:Had minor issue with hot water, but Jack and Lee fixed it immediately.
Review 52:Jack and Lee were great hosts Great decking on the water Amazing breakfasts Free use of canoes Large clean quirky apartment Short walk into town
Review 53:AC did not work in my unit and owners ignored my complaints horrible two nights sticky hot no breeze. Kitchen did not have enough basic cooking utensils. Coffee pot cheap old and dirty. Bugs in wood leaving dropping in multiple places gross. View from front two units over water is nice but all back units the view is awful and of the back sides of the other cabins with their hot water heater and AC units at best. Worst was the view from all windows of the VERY close completely falling down wreck of buildings with tons of garbage and junk and trash literally everywhere even in the water below and around the unit. These other buildings have rusted falling apart sides and roofs and locals sitting in doorways staring at the porches where you might want to relax. The location is FAR from town you must get the owners to call a taxi. The area has NO tourist spots to eat shop or hotels this is where the poor locals live in totally run down shacks and garbage is everywhere. You are in the hood and it's ugly. Mattress and sheets and towels used well past when they should be thrown out. Breakfast is one choice only what the owner wants to make regardless of what you may eat and you must sit at the bar facing the disgustingly dirty and messy kitchen to eat. Yes the owners have an outside table and dock but no you must sit inside in the kitchen. Although booking.com allowed a one night rental I booked two and upon seeing the condition and location I asked for only one night the owner yelled I could get out if I didn't like things and that it's too hard for her to clean the units. This place is simply too much for the older couple to maintain or else they simply don't care. Only a very experienced budget traveler looking for more space and able to overlook just about everything else will be happy here.
