Reviews for Casa Agricola da Levada
Review 1:Fabulous farm estate , very quite , great location to the Palacio de Mateus estate and the Douro Valley and the staff were very helpful and happy. The bedding was very clean and comfortable.
Review 2:The old farm houses on the property have been restored to a nice level of luxury and comfort. It felt as if we were staying in the countryside while just minutes from town. While we stayed during the low season, the staff made sure our breakfast was left in a basket just outside of our door each morning. The fireplace was fantastic and was supplied with wood for each evening. All of this just a 25 minute drive to the amazing wineries located along the Douro River.
Review 3:Furniture wasn't the best, but bed was very comfortable
Review 4:The charm and coziness of having your own stone cottage with a wood stove. The beautiful and homey character to all the buildings.
Review 5:We liked the setting, friendliness of staff and spaciousness of apartment. We had a two bed-room apartment for 3 people with an olive press in the middle of the living area.
Review 6:There was definitly nothing to complain, a first rate place!
Review 7:Beautiful, clean rooms in a great buildind and surrounded by a beautiful garden. Excellent breakfast and very very friendly staff. We will be back!
Review 8:It was rather far away from the city center, so coming by car is better here. The way up to the house is narrow and very dark at night, the street lights really need to be fixed!
Review 9:We had a huge double apartment, the size was really nice. The view onto the Douto valley and Vila Real was nice, too, when the weather was good. The wifi worked, the bathroom was unexpectedly modern.
Review 10:Although this is an oasis of green calm you cannot ignore the fact that it is 'in town'. There is road noise from the main road and the local dogs are very noisy early in the morning and through the trees you can see the large DIY store.
Review 11:It is always the little touches that make a place different and here they are trying really hard to make the best of what they have which is a green oasis in the outskirts of town. The gardens are well maintained and the buildings sympathetically converted. The staff are a team, information is given on printed hand drawn maps, fresh baked bread is delivered to you door each day, piles of cut wood supplied for your log burner and an honesty shop with useful and local produce. The location is at first hard to find but they know this and send very helpful information before hand.
Review 12:Liked everything although slightly dark rooms
Review 13:We were upgraded to a larger studio. Tastefully decorated. Safe parking. Close to supermarkets. Honesty shop for local produce- handy
Review 14:Hard to find and not much to do in the evening (had to drive to the small town nearby)
Review 15:Warm welcome and amazing property. Very quiet and surrounded by nature. The room was also amazing, large and very well decorated. Really enjoyed the breakfast as well.
Review 16:Tucked away on the outskirts of Vila Real is this beautiful old estate. It has this rustic comfortable feel, we stayed in the 'hotel' bit of it but there are also houses to rent. The grounds are spacious, friendly helpful staff and we had a lovely couple of days there and wished it had been longer.
Review 17:Nothing wrong, beds rated as good, a subjective rating only.
Review 18:The people were very friendly and helpful. We were 2 couples and stayed in a 2 b.r. unit with kitchen between, had our own large patio area as well. This is a somewhat rural setting, and was a pleasant escape from the business of the city.
Review 19:Beautiful setting surprisingly close to town. Once you turned into the gates it was a park like setting. We stayed in room #4 and it was on the corner with a spacious room and sitting room. Nicely appointed with antiques that made you feel the period of time. Clean, quite setting with a nice breakfast offered in the courtyard. Would definitely return. Stayed 2 nights.
Review 20:I had fallen and had a very sore shoulder, as soon as the lady of the house saw me she got her husband to look at it and the next morning he took me to the hospital and arranged everything. I had a x-ray and discovered that it was fractured so without their help and concern it could have been much worse.
Review 21:Beautiful Grounds and very unique buildings. One seldom ever sees a very old Olive Press little own have one taking up most of the sitting area of your suite.
Review 22:nothing; nearly perfection !!
Review 23:the studio was top. Perfect rebuild of the site, with respect for authenticity and new luxury. Garden park is also top. Very good service and privacy.
Review 24:The water on the bathroom floor. The door and windows could not be hooked back so banged closed at the slightest breeze - minor issue as we just used cushions and chairs to prop.
Review 25:We stayed in Ferreiro cottage. Spacious although a problem with shower water leaking onto floor. Loved the lawn outside, the historic nature of the place, the attentive staff especially Maria (English speaker) who went out of her way to assist us. Loved the bread delivery for breakfast. Also the honesty shop (Try the wine for 4€). And the pool. Oh and the maps and suggestions of where to eat and what to see. If you choose to enjoy this experience be very aware that it can be difficult to find so follow directions given rather than rely on GPS.
Review 26:The staff were so helpful and friendly. Close to town yet it felt like you were in the country. Managed to lock ourselves out of the room at 10 and no problem for someone, with a smile, to drive in and to come to our rescue.
Review 27:Hot water takes à lot of time, this is à waste of water. Shower head could nog be proper attached to the wall.
Review 28:the location is very romantic and peacefull.
Review 29:The only thing we would have liked to see, was a "No smoking" sign at the outdoor sitting area like the signs indoors. We unfortunatly had other guests smoking when we ate our breakfast two mornings out of three.
Review 30:The enviroment are beautiful, staff friendly and helpful, location almost in the city but still remote, nice breakfast, tastful decor, familiary, as a guest you are supplied with good information on point of interest and suggestions on trips to the national park, wine yards and the Douro vally, good parking, nice swimmingpool a s o. OBS - hard madrasses and smaller beds then we are used too in northen Europe BUT it is the standard in Portugal so more a question of preference :-)
Review 31:A couple of minor admin errors, which could have easily been avoided - but were quickly resolved.
Review 32:An oasis of calm in an otherwise busy town. Facilities were very good. Location is good for Porto & Douro valley, but only with a car.
Review 33:The staff was fantastic: super nice and able to communicate in many different languages. Our house was much bigger, more complete (full kitchen, grill) and more private than expected.
Review 34:Nothing
Review 35:The old world seclusion & charm of the overall property, with its newly renovated studios, together with the very friendly & helpful staff.
Review 36:It's truly unique place, very different from other places I've stayed in Portugal. Our apartments we spacious, well equipped, with terrace and car parking place in front of it. Staff was extremely friendly and nice, breakfast was rich and tasty. Everything was so good I even started to think about re-planning my trip and staying here for few more days.
Review 37:Spacious room in a garden farm setting. Very friendly and helpful staff. The casa is not so much for visiting Vila Real, but an ideal base for long stays.
Review 38:The kitchen could have used a toaster.
Review 39:The casa was hidden away in the city and made one feel you were in the country. We stayed in one of the homes which suited our style of self catering perfectly. There were beautiful views from our house. The staff were warm and welcoming. The honesty shop was also a nice feature. The bread delivered to our house each morning was the best we had in Portugal.
Review 40:Honesty shop could have had a better selection .
Review 41:Every thing go-ing back to nature.Carmen and the staff very friendly and helpful .Sleeping arrangements a knockout Honesty shop a great idea .Excellent place for the young at heart or just want to be laid back.
Review 42:The hostess was wonderful and helpful. This was our second visit and we enjoyed it as much as our earlier visit 2 years ago. Much of the food available was produced on the property. The property has had many improvements since our last visit.
Review 43:Difficult to find by car, but owner helpfully sent instructions by email,as booking.com instructions were unclear
Review 44:Breakfast al fresco, rural setting within the town boundaries, swimming pool and play facilities for children, very friendly staff.
Review 45:Something they can't help: the fact that everything around this wonderful oasis had been built on, and that there weren't enough Casa Agricolas left in Vila Real!
Review 46:Great quality Wonderful surroundings Value for money Exquisite hosts
Review 47:The owners, staff, ambiance, property, other guests. Very relaxing, close to Oporto and at the same time to Natural Parks and much to see and do.
Review 48:Breakfast. The buffet was sparse, even by B&B standards. It needs some protein choices, not just breads, cakes, fruits and sugared cereals.
Review 49:The restoration was very well done. It is nice to wander around and see the other areas being worked on by true craftsmen. The room was spacious, simple, clean and efficient. The gardens are magnificent. The owner was on site and available if needed.
Review 50:A bit out of town, but not a problem if you want a restful stay away from the bustle.
Review 51:Beautiful old house, with cool rooms in high summer. Very friendly and welcoming owners - including a specially cooked BBQ dinner. Great swimming pool and garden.
Review 52:Amazing old farm with lots of space to stroll around, stairs up and down the terrain as it stands on a valley, lawns and wilder spots, beautiful farm house and stone buildings... The kids enjoyed the pool, played on the grass and with the little wooden houses and toys that are available near the big house. Friendly owner who would offer us a glass of wine while we watched the kids play. We can pick fruit from trees, vegetables growing there are for free at the "honesty shop"... Lovely.
Review 53:Anything
Review 54:The incredible beauty of the casa. The open-mindedness of the owner. The fantastic breakfast on this location. The creative way everything was decorated...and so on and so on, only superlatives for this stay.
Review 55:They upgraded us without extra charges to a2 bedroom bungalow. Good kitchen and we made a fire every night. Great breakfast and lovely staff.
Review 56:We liked the atmosfere of being in such a nice old house, without missing the comfort to do everything we want.
Review 57:To rustic for us.
Review 58:Not much
Review 59:I loved all the beautiful togs and the cozy fire on the rainy day!
Review 60:Rural setting close to the city. Friendliness and helpfulness of staff
Review 61:Very comfortable rooms, beautiful views, lovely surroundings, friendly staff, excellent breakfasts
Review 62:Difficault to find, but worth the effort
Review 63:Very charming and rustic
Review 64:A very noisy location, so close by the highway. Garden furniture uncomfortable and old.
Review 65:The park and setting and staff were great!

Review 84:I am so happy we stayed at this guesthouse. The rooms are spacious and clean. Very comfortable beds. Good value for money and excellent breakfast! The property is huge and just beautiful!
Review 85:Wifi did not reach our cottage (had to go to main building), street nearby was a little noisy
Review 86:Very nice and helpful staff, good location, huge apartment in beautiful setting (own little park), good price / value ratio, good restuarant and sightseeing information provided
Review 87:No minuses. all good!
Review 88:We loved this hotel. Carmen, Sonja and the other staff made us very welcome. Our room was huge and very comfortable and the location was idyllic. We would definitely stay here again!
Review 89:The only thing i didn't love was the shower, it was a bit small, but really not a big deal, i still got clean ;-)
Review 90:The staff is friendly and helpful, especially Carmen, she has great energy. The grounds are lovely, very peaceful and pleasant to walk around. My room was very big, simple tasteful decoration, overall very comfortable. The breakfast was great, especially one of the jams, which seemed to be homemade. Overall a great place to stay.
Review 91:Casa Agricola is a paradisic oasis in the centre of a very busy city! The birdsong, the river valley and the quiet were amazing. Carmen is an amazing, happy, helpful, young woman who certainly assured that our stay was wonderful! Thank you Carmen!! The little cottages are very well equipped, cozy, clean and comfortable! Beautiful gardens too!
Review 92:Charming welcome, friedly staff. Former Quinta in typical country(-side) style, worth more than just 1 - 2 days/nights stay. Good location for excursions around the north and to/through the "Serras" (d'Alvão and do Marao).
Review 93:The only disappointment was hot water boiler that didn't function well and the wood for the fireplace was damp, so we couldn't make a fire in the evening and there was no one to help us.
Review 94:The place is really nice, beautiful nature and very quiet. The house is fully equipped and comfortable for cooking in. There is a gorgeous walk along the river just 5 min from the Casa Agricola.
Review 95:The house we had was big enough for 4-5 persons. Its fully equippedkitchen had everything for us to cook our meals. The house was brightand clean with a fire place. A lot of fire wood was given to us to makea fire to keep us warm & dry during the wet and rainy days. The RioCorgo is very near to the Casa. We had a very nice walk along thepath(of the river park) to the centre of Vila Real. The walk took usabout 35 minutes. It was safe and easy to walk for all ages. The view ofthe river park is just wonderful. Staff of the Casa were very friendlyand warm. Soon after we arrive, we were given a big basket of foodstuff, including a bottle of red wine The basket was a gift from theCasa. Two big supermarkets are within walking distance from the Casafrom which you can buy fresh products to cook your meals. I love to stayagain in this Casa.
Review 96:I couldn't stay more days...
Review 97:Romantic chalet with fireplace, charming view, and big rooms. It's a little farm just beside the city. All perfect!
Review 98:casa agricola was a most wonderful place for 5 girls to go for a getaway! thank you carmen and the staff for a relaxing and excellent stay. the beds were comfortable, the kitchen VERY well equipped, and vila real is a great doorstep to exploring all the wineries in the duoro valley. we enjoyed our time immensely and hope to return in the future!
Review 99:The weather .... The shower in our room hangs low for someone who is 1.98 m.
Review 100:Carmen gives a top service in a very friendly environment. Good suggestions for trips and restaurants. The place is very quiet and cosy. An excellent breakfast is served and you have a great choice from the selfservice bar.
Review 101:The staff was inviting, friendly and easy going and layout of the property was unique, spacious and had great views. The location was really good to enable you to see a lot in the part of the Douro. We will stay here again and bring friends to share the great experience because it feel a bit like home away from home.
Review 102:It was a fiesta in the town and we had a couple of disturbed nights. We needed the car to get about. The approach to the apartment was rock rather than man made steps and was irregular and not terribly safe.
Review 103:Villa Real is a good base for touring the surrounding area. It is a pleasant town to explore.
Review 104:Not really a problem justa worry that soin vanished : to access it we had May ne 50 meters of not too charming road, it dis not last and the réel arrival road was charming.
Review 105:Received as a friend guest not a paid guest , furthermore in vert beautiful surroundings. Felt at home but vert beautiful house (ancient but not old-fashioned, design although not modern, quiet, but vert sound relevant and friendly advice for visiting if needed). My favourite place si far in Portugal. vert convenient after or before visiting Mateus palace
Review 106:Peaceful green paradise with a wonderful familiar atmosphere. A "honesty shop" offers bread, chees, wine and other local products 24 hours. Nice courtyard and pool area is perfect to relax. Good location to start day trips to the Douro region by car.
Review 107:If you have any mobility problems, check the location of your chosen accommodation before booking, as we had to move because of difficult steps (or rather large rocks formed into uneven and difficult steps with no handrail). Pool is rather difficult to reach, down steps with no handrail, and it losses the sun by 5pm in the summer.
Review 108:Set outside Vila Real, it was calm and peaceful, with efficient and friendly staff and managers. We stayed in the self catering accom, kitchens rather small, but adequate, but some distance to outside restaurants if you want to eat outside the complex. Well priced wines available on an honesty system. Staff speak English or French. A relaxing stay, made special by the owner's ability to put everyone at ease.
Review 109:Signs would be helpful to find the way to the hotel more easily.
Review 110:EXCELLENT in every way! Increadible to find such a hotel at such an affordable price. - Super friendly staff. Treat guests like friends. - Huge garden, seemingly in the middle of nature, though still close to city center - Fantastic romantic design - Delicious and very amical breakfast
Review 111:All good. As advised hot water took quite some time getting to shower.
Review 112:Location was very special. You felt like you were deep in the countryside, but we're just minutes from city center. Reception exceptionally friendly and very helpful. Quite a bargin!
Review 113:We where warmly welcomed, the room was nice, it is a great location. Although it is on a central place in Villa Real you stay in a natural environment.
Review 114:distance from town and coffee shops, if we didn't have a car it wouldn't have worked for us
Review 115:Very friendly and helpful staff, the place was gorgeous like out of a story book
