Reviews for Quinta Da Cova Do Milho
Review 1:It is rather a steepy drive-up from Santa Cruz, so dont always rely on google :-) There is a way around!
Review 2:Very friendly staff, great views. Great food.
Review 3:If I have to point out something, dinner was slightly expensive compared to other places in Madeira.
Review 4:Really nice location and definitely good value for the money spent. Dinner was also good.
Review 5:Diner was a little bit expensive. No wireless in the rooms.
Review 6:Very nice people. Very quiet room with nice view. Very good bed and pillows. Breakfast was very good and included many fresh salty (bacon, eggs, beans, sausages, ...) and sweet things (bread, cake, fruit salad, ...). The location of the hotel is very convenient to reach all the Est and South part of the Madeira island.
Review 7:Our room was very different of that one which is advertised here in the offer. Bathroom needs some work. Blankets smelled a bit, everything was much older and they charged the same price for it.
Review 8:Staff is excellent, very informative and friendly. Breakfast is delicious. Place is very quiet.
Review 9:- No wifi in rooms (but this absence is common in Madeira) - Don't drive the small road from the airport, it's one of the steepest roads on the island, you're car may not like it. Instead, take the bigger road
Review 10:The isolation, the garden around the buildings, the hosts.
Review 11:The Wifi is only available in public areas. Tv has no sleeptimer :)
Review 12:Very friendly staff. Nice, clean and quite rooms. A very good fruit salad for breakfast!
Review 13:-
Review 14:Rooms - very beautiful decorated, as the whole property also. Spacious enough, spotless clean, large bathroom, very comfortable beds, very quiet, views at the mountains or garden. The property - The property has only 8 rooms, a large living area downstairs, and a room for breakfast. The living area is breathtaking beautifully decorated. A large fireplace, which is light up every evening, cozy coaches and armchairs for everyone, good music. You can sit here and drink a glass of wine, chilling after a day walking the levadas.
Review 15:Nothing at all.
Review 16:We have been in Madeira a few times and this is the best place we have stayed in. Breakfast is great and if you prefer to do walks while in the Island, they make sandwiches for you. Dinner is great as well. Staff is very friendly and makes you feel at home. Highly recommended.
Review 17:Warm welcome Very friendly and helpful staff Food was very enjoyable - more like home cooking than typical restaurant food Lounge had an amazing wood fire and comfortable sofa. Good Internet connection.
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:Right from meeting Manual and his small staff we felt at home and nothing was too much trouble. This quinta was perfectly located for seeing the east half of the island and set high up in the mountains with commanding views. Don't come here if you want night life or glitzy hotel - this is a small hotel with personal service, with sheep and a horse in the neighbouring field. Would recommend to anyone wanting to get away from it all but still be close to a town if you wanted one (Machico 15minutes). We were sorry to leave. Thank you Manuel.
Review 20:nothing
Review 21:Very nice food at dinner and breakfast. Beautiful decorations and a cosy fireplace. Silence and nature around the house.
Review 22:Little Choice on Dinner menu and portions small
Review 23:Very nice staff.Nice surroundings.
Review 24:Booking failed to get through. All sorted with smiles
Review 25:A lovely hotel with very helpful staff and excellent food
Review 26:excellent kitchen superb scenery view from own balcony
Review 27:Would have liked kettle in room, tho could get a coffee if we asked.
Review 28:Peaceful, comfy, cosy, lovely hosts, uber-clean, mountain location, near Machico and Santa Cruz, nice breakfasts.
Review 29:Hmm can't think of anything!
Review 30:The hotel is well located for escaping to the hills and numerous walks but is still only 30 minutes from the airport. It is a small family run hotel with excellent staff/client relations, a tasty and varied menu and truly achives my ideal holiday accommodation.
Review 31:A swimming pool would make it perfect.
Review 32:This Quinta is an absolute delight and far surpassed any expectations we had of it. The location is tranquil and peaceful, (although would recommend having a car) the rooms and views lovely, the owners welcoming, friendly and helpful which seems to transfer to their guests with everyone acknowledging each other or having a chat. The biggest surprise was the evening meal of which for ease we decided to partake on the first evening - it was delicious, obviously home cooked with a modern twist, using fresh local ingredients and reasonably priced for three courses. We returned the following evening and were again thrilled. We were disappointed we only booked for two nights and hope to return.
Review 33:Expensive dinner...cold in march and cloudy most of the time..stay insouthern parts cause everything is closer...we wantes to be out oftourist centre but in the end south is much much sunnier andwarmer....place is for ppl that really want to relax far fromeverything...biggest minus is dinner for 20 e per person...we ate muchcheaper in Taberna Sao Vicente which is one of the best on Madeira if uwant real local food...
Review 34:Nature..beautiful house...ambient...for ppl that want really to be farfrom crowd and relax...i suppose its brilliant if the weather is nicewhich it wasnt up in the mountains...
Review 35:- breakfast might miss some variations, but the home-made jam was excellent
Review 36:- nice and friendly place and staff - thoughtful landlord - romantic ambience with chimney and bar
Review 37:Almost as soon as we had entered the front door of the hotel Manuelinsisted on showing us his set menu for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.Each menu consisted of about 8 courses of nouveau cuisine. We looked atboth menus and to be honest we would not actually have personally chosento eat most of the courses listed. The price was exhorbitant at 60 eurosper person per meal. Having seen the price we mutually decided not tojoin them for the Christmas Eve dinner. We managed to find analternative venue elsewhere in the village to eat. However, we thoughtwe could keep some options open for Christmas Day. These subsequentlyfell flat.Christmas Day however was a completely different experience. Very few alternative venues were open, understandably. We returned to the hotel and asked Manuel if we could choose one or two items off the set menu for our evening meal. Viz: steak in peppercorn sauce, turkey with trimmings etc. He categorically refused to accommodate our wishes. We questioned the logic of his answer insofar as, if he was cooking these items anyway surely it would not be unreasonable to allow us to be a little selective, after all, it was our Christmas dinner. It was quite obvious that Manuel was trying to force all his guests in to a very expensive menu knowing that there would be no other alternative venues at which to eat. Consequently because of his total inflexability with regard to said dining arrangements, our Christmas dinner consisted of a large bag of Madeiran crisps and a good glass of Portuguese red wine. Understandably this was extremely disappointing for us and in our opinion we chose a location advertising full restaurant facilities for the duration of our stay. When we initially booked nothing was mentioned about being locked into this ridiculously expensive menu.A full breakfast was advertised on the booking form as being included in the room rate. However, again, this proved not to be the case.
Review 38:The rural aspect of the hotel adjacent to a small mountain village withconvenient access by car to the Airport and local sites was good. Theinitial personal greeting by the owner Manuel seemed very friendlyhowever, see below for further details.
