Reviews for Casa da Quinta De S. Martinho

Review 1:Not a problem for us, but people with mobility issues might have difficulty climbing up to the sleeping loft in the cottages.

Review 2:The owner provided us a to the bus station back in town at no charge.

Review 3:Everything was nnice, quite and relaxing.

Review 4:Very nice property with cosy atmosphere nicely decorated in a rustic style with a lot of good taste. Although in the country it is very close and easy to access both the centre town and the university of Vila Real by car. very friendly and competent owners.

Review 5:Pool and garden not ready for guests. Outdoor furniture needed cleaning / replacement. Sunny & hot- not able to enjoy the garden area. Gypsy encampment close by, not informed before going for walk.

Review 6:We liked everything!

Review 7:Very kind and helpful owners. Good breakfast Wifi Beautiful living room with TV Cozy, charming bedroom and bathroom Blow dryer Old stone and boards in the ceiling All included. Just loved staying there.

Review 8:We could only obtain the advertised free Wi-Fi if we went into the main house, although, to be fair, it was OK in that area. The TV in the apartment was only Portuguese which, for us was not a major problem, but the Wi-Fi was because we could have used that to get our own English news. The bedroom was reached by a rather narrow and steep spiral staircase which proved somewhat difficult with our small weekend suitcase. If we were staying for a longer period, a larger one might have been a problem to get up the stairs. The twin beds were just that - twin beds pushed together with single bedding, not made up as a double. Although there was plenty of lighting, they were mainly spots and didn't adequately light the interior of the apartment. We had to leave the filtered light on all night over the staircase for going downstairs to the bathroom. We found the sofa-bed in the apartment totally uncomfortable for sitting on - it was too low and too soft - and the dining room chairs were also unfortunately the most uncomfortable we have ever sat on even after removing the cushions. When it came to the galley kitchen area, because of the constraints of the room, we found it extremely small and difficult to get in and out of. Although we heard plenty of traffic on the road immediately adjacent to the building, it seemed to vanish after 10.00'ish and was not a problem. Our big disappointment though had to be the views and the built up area surrounding this establishment. We understand the problems of Ines and Paulo but it has detracted dramatically on their outlook. The gardens now overlook rooftops instead of mountains and dales and the front access is also marred by modern buildings.

Review 9:A traditional stone built Portuguese house with plenty of "public areas". We stayed in Apartment 1. The hosts, Ines and Paulo, were extremely helpful and friendly and spoke excellent English as well as French and obviously Portuguese. Our apartment was adequately equipped with all the necessary short term holiday requirements. The lounge area is comfortable in the main house for reading and watching the satellite television which has a selection of sport and news programmes in various languages. The bathroom was clean, modern and had an excellent shower with plenty of hot water. The extra plus was reasonable sized towels which were of good quality. All in all, a very pleasant stay for a couple of days and although we didn't use the swimming pool, it would be large enough for several people at one time to relax.

Review 10:All was perfect!

Review 11:Excellent location closed to palace mateus, they speak very well english and are really friendly, beautiful and comfortable house with swiming pool. Excellent continental breakfast. They advised us a very good portuguese restaurant with generous plates and good prices. Parle aussi très bien francais, maison charmante, et confortable avec piscine, três bien situé à 2 minutes du Palais de Mateus et sur le circuit rouge du guide michelin pour faire la valée du Douro. Très sympa et très bon petit dej.

Review 12:The room heating was not controlled in the room. It was dependent of the hours that were programmed on the main heating control.

Review 26:The kitchen was not well equipped. Our 4 day stay coincided with a 4 day fiesta at the local church featuring fireworks at 8:00 am and rock music from midnight til 2:00 am

Review 27:The swimming pool was very popular with the children at the end of a hot day. The Casa was easy to find and conveniently located for everything we wanted to see.

Review 28:The beds creaked. The gardens were lovely but with a little TLC could be spectacular.

Review 29:The hosts were fabulous. The quaintness of the house and garden. Location.

Review 30:nothing in particular. I would not recommend Vila Real because the Mateus palace does not merit a special trip once you have seen a number of other palaces in Poartugal
