Reviews for Hotel Olas

Review 1:We paid extra for a 'balcony' off the room which was not called for since the balcony was facing the back of the hotel with no view at all. I would definitely advise people not to pay for a room with a balcony. Also the air conditioners were so-so.

Review 2:Location of the hotel was great, situated right on the water.

Review 3:the room was very small for 4 people considering the price we paid.

Review 4:Hotel Olas is fine. Do not expect hands-on staff, they are very relaxed and you hardly ever see them. The hotel is clean, safe and breakfast is nice. Hotel Olas is in a good location with a lovely deck that overlooks the water. You are closer to the residential areas which is lovely rather than the noisy party streets. (however these are only 5 min walk) Bocas is a party town and accommodation is extremely expensive for what you get. Hotel Olas was perfect for us as we weren't expecting 5 star treatment. I would stay here again.

Review 5:Washroom and rest of room were filthy, stains on toilet and dirt smears all over walls. Floors made my feet instantly black and ground floor window did not lock properly. Bed was horribly uncomfortable and a cheap mattress. Nightly charge date was for a hotel rate but the place was a hostel at best. No meat served for breakfast or available to pay an additional charge. Attracts the drunk crowd as this was clearly an old hostel that they are now calling a hotel.

Review 6:Staff

Review 7:The rooms could use a little TLC -- walls were dirty. But basically, clean rooms.

Review 8:The staff were very friendly and helpful. i liked the atmosphere of the hotel itself. Good overall value, especially with the breakfast included.

Review 9:The hotel is located off the main street, overlooking the sea with very bad smell. We booked a room with a balcony, opening the balcony let alone staying there wasn't an option. The restaurant staff wasn't friendly at all, at times there was no one tending the bar, so we couldn't order drinks.

Review 10:Nice, clean hotel.

Review 11:The neighborhood doesn't seem to be getting any cleaner with time. Lots of garbage on the street, nasty smells everywhere. Noisy old air conditioners, the sight of the cockroach on the bed as we were packing up in the morning put it over the top.

Review 12:Walking distance to airport.

Review 13:As the hotel is not on the main road and not in the party area, it is very peaceful. I loved hanging out on the porch which I had all for myself most of the time. For breakfast I could choose between two options.

Review 14:Very dirty, unfriendly and apathetic staff. Bad value for money. Loud, uncomfortable beds, and cockroaches. Would not recommend.

Review 15:Nice common area and dock, lots of hammocks, seating etc.

Review 16:The electric cables in the shower look unsafe.

Review 17:Location is great, near the main street and dive shops. It's super relaxing to lay on a hammock in terrace and look the view to Caribbean sea.

Review 18:This is a beautiful hotel right over the water. It is two blocks from the Main Street in Bocastown so it is very quiet. The staff gives you a choice of several breakfast options and they were all very good. There are two very nice sitting areas, one with hammocks, for when it rains.

Review 19:Wifi could be a bit sketchy but it wasn't a deal breaker

Review 20:Location was great. Clean, tidy, had everything we needed. Large spacious room. Great balcony at the back where you could sun bake and jump straight off the deck into the water and watch the amazing sunsets.

Review 21:The location was a bit remote and away from all the other hotels and restaurants. When we first got there I was worried because of what the area outside of the hotel looked like but I was pleasantly surprised once inside. Don't get me wrong, it's not the fanciest but your basic needs will be covered.

Review 22:The staff at this hotel was amazing, Nyrobi and Stephenie at the reception were friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast was to my surprise was an actual meal instead of a continental style breakfast. Free WiFi!!!!!

Review 23:There was a bad smell all over the place. The bed only had a white sheet and no blanket or night tables. The staff was not friendly at all and the shower head had cables sticking out. We were afraid to get electrocuted.

Review 24:The oceanfront deck and breakfast.

Review 25:Although it is within a few minute walking distance to all of the restaurants and shops in town, it is located right on the fringe of the town, and there is a lot of noise from the street.

Review 26:We loved the spot right on the water, and the deck was very peaceful with a nice view of the bay. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 27:The room smelled like cat piss. It was suffocating and permeated our clothes. The bed was terrible and the pillow was completely balled up. The ac was loud and smelly. This was our most expensive stay and by far the worst.

Review 28:The breakfast was okay.

Review 29:you can't pay with credit card, in a place like bocas town can be a little bit of hassle, you only have 1 atm machine and it's kinda fair from the hotel.

Review 30:On the water, 5 minute walk from the Main Street. The breakfast is great. The hotel is clean and the shower is hot, it's perfect after a day in the ocean, snorkeling or scuba diving.

Review 31:I was surprised that the bed just consisted of sheets, no light blanket. Had to adjust the AC so we didn't freeze the second night. I also think a few more towel bars or hooks would be nice to hang wet swimming suits and towels.

Review 32:While it isn't in the center of town, it isn't too far to walk. Being on the water and away from the noise makes up for the short walk. The free breakfast was awesome with generous portions. The hotel staff was very helpful and pleasant. Towels were nice and actually big enough to wrap around your body.

Review 33:Great location and amazing stuff. Big, clean and well furnitured rooms with balcony and sea sight view to marine! Great breackfast to choose from 4 options! Fast WiFi. Very good value for money. Look for Yiftach the owner, he will take care to great hospitality!

Review 34:Would be nice if restaurant/bar was open throughout day/evening. Definite potential to be a cute place to hang out once renovations are finished.

Review 35:rooms/bathroom are clean and spacious! Private balcony was a plus! A/C worked great! Shower was large/hot! Friendly/helpful staff! Would stay here again! :)

Review 36:We think is overpriced to be honest. Located a bit far away from the central streets. Staff is useless and greedy. The day we arrived at Olas electricity shut off for a night. So we couldn´t get cash from ATM to pay for this night, had only euros. The night before they said we can pay with euros, and is fine. The next day the guy on a reception accepted the payment in euro and give the change in dollars which was very helpful as we had to get a taxi to the airport and we had no dollars at all. 5 minutes later he changed his mind and said that we need to pay 5 euro more as a commission for the exchange. We said no way we can do it, this is ridiculous. So he took back those 8 dollars, gave us the equivalent in euro back and said that´s it. He was trying to find the best profit for him out of this situation. We said he is leaving us in a very bad situation, as it is raining like hell outside, we need to get to the airport (he couldn´t find any taxi for us by the way) and we have no dollars at all. But he didn´t care. We have never met such an inexcusable indifference. In the end we went to the airport walking in the rain. If you have other options available better stay away from Olas. You won´t get a warm and welcoming service there.

Review 37:This hotel is quite clean, nice art works on the walls, room is big, bathroom and facilities are fine.

Review 38:Staff was not nice, the place is more like a flop house than a hotel. Room was kind of dirty, TV and internet didn't work. We left in the morning and found a better place at a better price.

Review 39:Booked the place about 30 min before we arrived, our room wasn't ready but they let us leave out backpacks there while we walked around town.

Review 40:The rooms are close to the street, between barking dogs and screaming kids. No service attitude: I had to insist for just a piece of soap and mosquito spray for the room was flatly refused (but very necessary) ! The breakfast area also serves as smoking room and long-distance call center.

Review 41:The terraces over the water

Review 42:staff in kitchen were not that friendly....lights were turned out around 10:30 pm in upper sitting room (almost like we had a curfew). Hotel Olas is situated in a very poor and sketchy area of Bocas del Toro.

Review 43:Clean hotel on the water... oceanview room

Review 44:The daytime receptionist needs to learn to smile and say "Good morning".

Review 45:Good sized room, comfortable bed, everything was clean, super quiet a/c. Great open air lounge area, right on the water with lovely sea breezes. Super quiet at night made for great sleeps. The manager was very friendly and helpful.

Review 46:The cost was vastly disproportionate to what we got. No toiletries, poor reception, and only a coffee and muffin for breakfast and the rooms smelt bad. We could have got better at a backpackers for half the price.

Review 47:The views

Review 48:The wi-fi doesn't work properly, the free breakfast is very basic and the breakfast menus not really cheap.

Review 49:The location, the terrace is amazing, the staff is really friendly.

Review 50:Coming back to closed rooms that smelled like pee. Humidity? Bad septic? Don't know. Think air fresheners would help!

Review 51:Really nice community deck facing ocean

Review 52:.. wifi was marginal (didn't work the evening we arrived, but did work the next morning after an island-wide 4.5 hour power outage. 2" long cockroach on the floor freaked out the wife.

Review 53:It's on the water, staff tried to be helpful with wifi and did provide candles and water container to scoop water from the ocean to flush toilet. Not a noisy location, so was able to get a good sleep.

Review 54:IMO way overpriced for a place that feels more like a hostel than a hotel. Very uncomfortable beds. Other rooms might be better, we had the one closest to the street which overlooks a big garbage bin and essentially you have to keep the curtains closed the whole time for any amount of privacy.

Review 55:The common area is nice, staff are friendly and helpful

Review 56:Noisy airconditioner that cut in and out like a motorbike engine, even when we switched ours off we still had to listen to the unit in the room next door. Very basic rooms. Ground floor rooms are very noisy due to bar/restaurant and boat taxis / locals outside and the family dog. I think all rooms in old bank will be the same though.

Review 57:Location and couple who ran it. Good was good and reasonable price. There is no choice of restaurants so you have to eat what is on the menu.

Review 58:Breakfeast, wasn't the best. The only thing we got, was orange juice (soda) if we wanted fresh fruit juices we had to pay about 3 USD; coffe and a Muffin. Obviously, their intention is to sell, a breakfeast, wich we can choose, between eggs, omelet, muesli... Be sure, you bring with you more money, for breakfeast. By the way, they only accept cash (USD)

Review 59:The room was very confortable, confortable pillows and bed. Everything worked perfectly (cable tv, air condition and Wi-fi) The location, was just a 5 m walk to the center.

Review 60:Too much rain!

Review 61:Staff was very helpful. The location was around the corner from the loud music and parades last weekend. Good TV. Good wifi. Decent breakfast. Nice view.

Review 62:Great hotel for the price. Hot showers which can be hard to come by in Bocas. Rooms were clean with AC and stuff was friendly. Would stay here again if ever back in the area.

Review 63:The rooms are pretty basic. There were two of us but we got a room with two double beds and no wardrobes or tables for our belongings. We could also hear people from the next room, so the walls are not very thick. Stuff doesn't seem to speak English a lot but it is not a big problem However this hotel is fine for a one or two night stay

Review 64:Hotel is located in several minutes by feet from the main street, so you won't have that much noise, which is good. The balconies have hammocks and a lovely view over the sea. The breakfast was also fine.

Review 65:Asking 110CA$ in cash for a room originally booked 65CA$ through booking.com Asking 10CA$ extra in cash for a real breakfast arguing that breakfast included with the room is the cheapeast industrial coffee and orange juice available in town So trying to get +85% more than agreed at booking during stay Giving no receipt for cash payments and still running after us the day of departure arguing that we did not pay for everything ... but unable to find out how much we actually paid To say the least, dishonest and unprofessional management team

Review 66:Great location Good facilities and comfort (in suites) Best dive center in town (Bocas Dive Center) within 5mns walk

Review 67:An alarm/clock radio in the room would have been very helpful.

Review 68:Spacious and very clean rooms. Attentive and professional staff, wonderful location with ease of access to downtown Bocas. Delightful open air lounge area for enjoying the ocean setting. Bilingual staff able and pleased to book any travel or excursion plans you may need !

Review 69:Loved the location, close to the "downtown" yet far enough removed to not feel like a tourist. Panamanian families lives accross the street and on either side of the building which made it feel more authentic. We did however stay in a suite, and I thought it looked a bit nicer in the photos online than in real life. Shay the manager was friendly and great, and they have an awesome free breakfast in the morning (: would recommend hotel olas.

Review 70:high prices for rental of bike and kayak when we were staying at the hotel

Review 71:For the price this was excellent. The breakfast was amazing, the coffee very good. Staff very accommodating

Review 72:The Boss take action, when there are a problem.

Review 73:The toilet was broken, the AC in the room was broken and during the night one could hear animals on the roof and in the walls.

Review 74:Hassle & cost to transfer a deposit over in addition to the deposit cost.

Review 75:Breakfast, views from deck

Review 83:Price is very good.

Review 84:Air conditioner was extremely loud

Review 85:Location, price, staff, felt relaxed

Review 86:Took forever to get a cup of coffee in the mornings. Breakfast food quality good, but very slow service.

Review 87:Front Desk staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 88:Denny's patient approach to customers, his helping attitude n the overall ambience.

Review 89:The waitress was less than friendly.

Review 90:Large open restaurant right on the water.

Review 91:Not worth the money after doing research on other area hotels/ costs and also looking at other hotel options.

Review 92:Free wifi, breakfast

Review 93:The girls working i reseption, need to get a new job or get motivated. Terrible service, angry people.

Review 94:noisy in the morning from the people across the street.

Review 95:walking distance to restaurants, stores and the airport.

Review 96:The waitress cor breakfast should learn some costumer service.

Review 97:Delicious breakfast, clean place, comfortable beds

Review 98:Owners and staff were awesome!

Review 99:Out a way location. Queen suite was a small room that was no suite. Ocean view average.

Review 100:Staff were so friendly with very good English. Breakfast was great food. Wifi excellent! Would highly recommend staying here

Review 101:Litle bit noisy, bicause the woody wall is thin.

Review 102:Restaurant on the water whit sea view. Good breakfest. Odl woody hotel on the water.

Review 103:Upstairs seating area

Review 104:Our first room no air and sweltering hot

Review 105:our 2nd room we got to stay in. Absolutely wonderful

Review 106:mosquitos

Review 107:the location and view

Review 108:Bed could have been more comfortable. There was no place to hang clothes.

Review 109:That it was on the water.

Review 110:Location is very good. Rooms are very clean and comfortable

Review 111:Great atmosphere

Review 112:The stuff was not very helpful

Review 113:Breakfast was good

Review 114:The young man who ran the front desk when we arrived was very friendly and gave good advice about what to do in Bocas Town and around the islands.

Review 115:I loved the restaurant overlooking the sea.

Review 116:Atmosphere, kind stuff, terraces, location,..

Review 117:Very clean, quiet. We enjoyed sitting in common area reading in evening. Location. Short ealk to restaurants and water taxi.

Review 118:Considering what we pay for hotels in Panama this was not good value.

Review 119:Easy to get around

Review 120:I wish the local would pick up their trash. The island could be cleaner.

Review 121:Right over the water. Not too loud. Close to everything.

Review 122:beautiful ocean view sitting areas

Review 123:Staff were helpful!

Review 124:The photos on the website looked fabulous, unfortunately that wasn't the reality. A bit grubby!
