Reviews for Champalao The Villa

Review 1:Whilst it's clean on the surface, it needs a bit of a 'deep clean' around the bathroom windows etc.

Review 2:Lovely old place with lots of tranquil space in a great, quiet location. The top end of the town is by far the best place to stay if you're not into hideous party music being pumped at full volume. All the restaurants on the other side of the street (try Green Restaurant) have the best views in town. The whole place is a bit 'shabby chic' so do not expect glamour but it's good enough value. Reminds me of lots of the places you used to get in SE Asia before the resorts moved in. Note: this is not the same place as the Champa Lao Bungalows across the street!

Review 3:We enjoyed the casual atmosphere, the friendly, helpful staff and the location. We booked the villa (4 people), which had 2 rooms, a large, outdoor living area with comfortable lounges to chill out on, and a smaller outdoor area with a hammock. We spent alot of time relaxing in these areas and my teenage boys loved the hammock.

Review 4:The room was not worth the money, of all the places we stayed in Laos this was the most expensive, and the most disappointing.... The bathroom was not great and we had paid extra for a mountain view, this saw us in a block across the street from where the reception is located, and yes the view was ok but probably not worth the extra... Room was dark and old, bathroom horrible, giraffe and lion tiles on the wall, sink that drains onto the floor etc

Review 5:Owners were really nice and helpful

Review 6:After checked-in and went into the room, we're pretty sure that we'd been overcharged. The room was a very basic-guesthouse type, not $50 per night without breakfast. Also later, we've found out that the rate we've booked through booking was double of what they offered walk-in. With a great disappointment, I emailed booking straight away but reluctant to say something to the owner. Thought we only there for two nights. When check out tho I decided to let the owner know that we think we'd been rinsed and not satisfied with the condition of the room. The owner didn't take complaint very well, with attitude 'its not my problem'. If he cares enough he would consider some compensation or even offer a cup of coffee to say ' sorry that you're not satisfied best I can do is.....' But in the opposite he said to us that it was no point to compliant, should have done it soon we checked in. Well, if you're English you'd understand why we didn't. Take any complaints to improve your service if you will. booking.com cares enough so they offered some compensation so thank you very much. If you're considering to book this place don't bother as its just another guesthouse, which hundreds, in vang vieng. Just walk around and choose as you like. Guarantee you get it cheaper.

Review 7:Loud door bangings every now and then - maybe because the walls are actually thin?

Review 8:Very helpful staff and the mountain view from our room was breathtaking!

Review 9:Didn't like the bathroom. It was a wet room so we had to buy flip flops to keep feet dry and there was a smelly waste water drain under the sink.

Review 10:We had a mountain view room and the view was superb. We overlooked the mountains and had a partial view of the river. We watched hot air balloons take off and land on ground behind the hotel. Paying a little extra for this room was well worth it. Otherwise the room was very basic but adequate for the price.

Review 11:USD50 per night without breakfast felt a bit expensive for a simple guesthouse in a small village in Laos, although it was a room with A/C. No proper shower. Difficult to reach the guesthouse with heavy suitcase because the road is bad and muddy.

Review 12:Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable beds, free wifi, spacious, cozy and clean room, nice atmosphere.

Review 13:Watch out, Champalao the Villa has 2 buildings. So you are in a block of concrete with nothing with mountain view or you are in the building with the Hammock and lounge options like you see on the pictures in second row with a busy street with a lot of noise in front if you and no mountain view. They should put the 2 buildings separate on the booking sites because now it seems it is 1 place. This is the first time in my life I have really made a mistake booking a hotel and I find the way they advertising it a scam. Besides all this you won't be able to sleep because the way the rooms were built it is like you sleep outside and it is very very noisy. The fact that you can't cancel your booking without paying the first night charge make it even more clear for me that this property is only trying to earn as much money as they can and don't mind deceiving you.

Review 14:Overprice! In Laos we have to consider a similar place at max 29 euro per night not 50. Fortunately they applied the standard Price because with booking was even more expensive. The breakfast was not included and the rooms were cleaned only upon request. The bathroom was Like in Thailand 15 years ago with the floor always wet because of the shower on the wc. Overprice!

Review 15:The location was good

Review 16:The room near the garden was old and not so clean. If you want them to clean your room you must tell them.

Review 17:The hotel's location is very good. 5 minutes anywhere. Staff are kind and helped with everything needed

Review 18:no storage place in the room, no mosquito net, no safety box, in general it's way overpriced (my double bed room with mountain view costs 45 USD per night) you can find similar places for half price. bad exchange rate (even for kip) so it's best to pay cash in USD

Review 19:friendly staff

Review 20:The water from the sink and the AC just went onto the bathroom floor. The furniture and the interior of the room in generel were quite charmless. We would have expected a bit more for the price we paid. The walls and doors are thin so you can hear any door banging.

Review 21:Amazing mountain-view from the balcony. Huge and comfy bed. Wifi was comparably stable and fast.

Review 22:The bathroom was a bit dirty, with cobwebs on the ceiling. The shower was lukewarm at best. At this price I think they could include breakfast, as most other places in Laos do.

Review 23:The view of the mountains from our room was fantastic. The hotel is in a good location, close to everything, but quiet too.

Review 24:As non drinkers it is a party town and quite busy at night the walls are paper thin so you can hear everything next door waking up to people using the toilet is not good glad we used it as a stopover to the next part of our journey

Review 25:The view was awesome the mountains at sunset are spectacular with hot air balloons as backdrops. The staff were friendly and organised busses for us without inflating prices overall good

Review 26:Can't blame the hotel for the ugly and dirty village - which we knew it would be beforehand. But the rooms are extremely basic, lacking decoration and comfort. Hasn't been renovated for a loooong time, pretty shabby and run down. Wouldn't go there again. Unfortunately according to the reviews not really much choice with regard to good accomodations in Vang Vieng.

Review 27:The best thing about this place is definitely the location. A bit outside from the centre but still in walking distance to everything. Rooms with balcony facing the beautiful mountains definitely recommendable, nice view of the sunset here! Staff at reception was very friendly.

Review 28:The room (Mountain view in the new building) wasn't worth the money! Very very basic and old.

Review 29:The old house is nice. The garden quiet and beautiful.

Review 30:The extra for the room with mountain view is a bit steep. WiFi works well most of the time, which is quite unusual in Laos.

Review 31:Just off the maindrag so it is quiet. Modern facilities and amazing view (the best you'll get in town!) And they are not just saying it, it is really a villa!

Review 32:Breakfast not very good. The rooms are very simple. Poorly soundproofed.

Review 33:The staff was very nice. The rooms were clean but very simple. We booked a mountain view room which was very nice.

Review 34:Drunk crazy people screaming in their room, not the staffs fault of course, they called someone quickly to tell him to chill and shut up, all perfect after that.

Review 35:I really liked this place. Beautiful room and comfy place, ,staff are very nice, we chilled in the garden after check out.

Review 36:get a mountain viev room! We had a garden view room and no access to the other view! The hotel has 2 buildings and our garden view house was on the other side of the street behind the other one! The special "thing' in Vang Vieng is the nature and the beautiful view of the mountains! Little bid on the pricier side for that town!

Review 37:Staff were very kind and helpful! Special and cozy buildings!

Review 38:The staff in our part were nice and helped when asked but they frequently seemed to be on their phone or on the sofa. We also thought the property could be a bit cleaner and would do with some extra items in the room like bedside table or hooks in the bathroom.

Review 39:The owner of the guesthouse was very nice and staff in the main building as well. We stayed in the other house in the mountain view property. View was stunning and definitely worth paying bit more. Location was very good as well as its hidden away from the party town.

Review 40:No breakfast included for this price. Though there are many possibilities in the town to get a breakfast. Loud Thai party at the resort behind the rooms on Saturday, disturbing our sleep until midnight. Water not available on the second morning, couldn't take a shower. Bathrooms could be renovated to match the pricing of the room.

Review 41:We where in the mountainview rooms. The view is adding value to the standard of the rooms.

Review 42:The staff at this hotel were fantastic. We booked most of our trips with them and they went above and beyond to help us out. I would highly recommend this hotel

Review 43:Too expensive for the location, view, and falicities, for this room rate. There is not even a hair dryer, not even easy breakfast including. The river cannot be seen from the villa. The stairs to our room (standard twin room) are too steep, not suitable for children and elders.

Review 44:The atmosphere and environment are nice. Drinks in the coffee shop are good.

Review 45:Online it said our room would have four beds but there were only two double beds so we had to share. The room was not that spacious compared to other rooms for which we had paid the same price. After checking out we were accused of stealing the decorative sheets from the beds and had to pay. It was very awkward and felt like a scam like many other things in vang vieng

Review 46:Good welcome from staff and very nice garden area. The location is good and not far from anything.

Review 47:Room very outdated. really needs fixing up. Wires hanging from fan. Picture NAILED to the wall, covered in plastic - not framed. Bad decorating.

Review 48:I loved the amazing view from the balcony but had to pay a price to get it. You need to be sure to request a room with mountain view. Its worth the extra money. Linen fairly good and clean. Comparing with what else is available in Vang Vieng at the same price its a good choice but for the same price in other towns you get much better. Staff helpful with booking bus and speak English.

Review 49:Bathroom is a bit old, but still ok. The river view room is not in the main building, it's actually in another guesthouse across the street. Breakfast is not included but it's ok, it was clear during the reservation. In this other building the staff are always laying on a sofa in the reception watching TV. Kinda weird. Corridors/stairs are not as clean as the room.

Review 50:Staff was helpful to book bus ticket. Location is good, close to many restaurants and bars. No meals included, but there are plenty of options nearby. Room was clean, we had the river view which was more expensive but the highlight. We had a small balcony with chairs where we could hang out.

Review 51:Wifi did not reach my room - I wasn't well and wanted to spend my time coughing away to myself in my room, lounging on my bed. So not ideal. Also, there are a lot of bugs. I couldn't tell if it's woodworm or ants. Not to worry, the beds are fine.

Review 52:The place is beautiful- feels like it's been grown. Lovely views. Comfortable rooms. Pleasant staff. Great location. Nice hot showers.

Review 53:Bed was hard, the property was located next door to what seemed to be a chicken & rooster farm. Woken up every day from between 4-6am. Other than that it was great.

Review 54:Owners and staff are great, their food is also delicious. Location central, air-con is the best we've ever had in SE Asia.

Review 55:It was a pitty that breakfast wasn't included.

Review 56:Very friendly staff, very helpful Their english was very good, which was very convenient. Location is ideal for eating and going out.

Review 57:Wifi didn't stretch to our room, lots of mosquitoes (or perhaps fleas from dogs?) in reception area.

Review 58:Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and cozy rooms, good food in the restaurant. Loved the vibe here and would return if ever back in Vang Vieng.

Review 59:this is Laos, so.... unstable WIFIin the room and bed was kinda OK. didn't expect much but the location is kinda nice and the place looks real nice. Owner was extremely nice to us will defo come back! :)

Review 60:friendly owner

Review 61:It would be nice to have breakfast for that price.

Review 62:Really pretty property. Lots of wooden style rooms with a share balcony and lively garden with hammocks and cushions. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nicely decorated room and big bathroom. Although the property is right at the end of town, it's not far at all and much quieter and nicer at that end of town.

Review 63:Wifi is not good.

Review 64:The villa is beautiful. It's not far from bus station and you can rent a car for travel to the most tourism location and staff is so nice ,they will help you and can introduce you a lot.

Review 65:The place is beautiful and clean. But the service is even better. The owner was very caring and polite. There's free wifi. The food is very delicious. Mango smoothies is the BEST! You have to try it. We were very happy and impressed by the service.

Review 66:it's only wifi signal didn't work well in room thats all!

Review 67:I recommend to stay here and sure i'd love to come back again!! Everything perfect and i can feel like home. Hosts are very warm welcome and excellent service. Foods and beverages are great especially fruit shake. Here is the best to come back next time!!

Review 68:None

Review 69:Rooms are clean nice place to chill and hangout The manager is very helpful and friendly also his dogs , Near to the center can walk to sakura bar and restaurant

Review 70:Simple but clean rooms Very friendly and helpful owner Great location - close to everything, yet quiet enough Awesome breakfast options (at a reasonable price)

Review 71:- The wall is not soundproof, so you can hear who stay next to you is talking. - The room is non smoking but if there're smoking ppl at a terrace you can smell it. - This price rate should including breakfast.

Review 72:** Dog person will love this place - Staffs, of course, they are really lovely, helpful and kind to give us flexible time and leave luggage upon request. - They can help you plan your trip, suggest tour agency and so on

Review 73:wifi connection was not smooth as expected to be Bathroom had poor function Not much warm water

Review 74:mosquito net was helpful to prevent bites Hammock was really comfortable Staff service were quality as they were neat and polite Pricing was adequate

Review 75:Hmmmmm, really nothing.

Review 76:The owners are super friendly, very accomodating and very helpful in giving advice on all the sightseeing areas. Coffee was outstanding! Room was clean, bed was very comfortable. Internet worked very well. Great location, near to where all the action is, yet far enough to rest and relax. Quiet part of town.

Review 77:The staff is really nice and treat you very well. The place is ok, I had ants in my room and for me it's fine, but u know some people are allergic so take a look at the room first. All in all, it's a nice place to stay very close to everything.

Review 78:No wifi in the room, balcony isn't suited for hanging out

Review 79:Good location, cosy chill out area, clean rooms, comfortable beds and very friendly staff.

Review 80:What I'm impressed the most is the hospitality of the guesthouse owners and maids. They're very nice, friendly and huge service - minded. The place is cool! Love the way they decorated...way to cozy and comfy.

Review 81:mattresses as with all in Laos that we slept on were a bit too firm for our weary bones

Review 82:The owners who were every helpfuland delightful, food and meeting fellow travellers as well as locals

Review 83:Nothing really. Not ideal if you're a light sleeper - thin walls, rooster etc. shame it's not got a view.

Review 84:Nice villa, helpful staff, cool room, location peaceful but close to the action if you want it.

Review 85:Maybe not researching enough on my part, but I thought they were bungalows and with a view. Nonetheless, it was a great place for a few nights.

Review 86:The location was very good - close to many restaurants and the river. The room was good, clean and adequate size. The staff was very friendly and helpful!

Review 87:The stairs/steps to the upstairs rooms are VERY steep. If you have any mobility challenges insist on the ground floor.

Review 88:Very friendly staff. rustic room, good location

Review 89:The only minor fault I could find is that the stairs up to our room on the first floor were rather steep and could have been difficult for some older people.

Review 90:The reception staff were so helpful and cheery

Review 91:no

Review 92:a good place, but the location is a little bit faraway from the main road. but that's make it very quiet place. the staff is very nice and helpful. also I love there garden very much, though it's small. I and my friends spent a lot of time reading on their hammocks! and I love the four dogs very much, though three of them were so shy!

Review 93:everything, the room and bathroom was dirty, I felt ichy all the time.

Review 94:Location and staffs are friendly and they gave me free breakfast which wasn't included

Review 95:My room wasn't the best; it was the one at the end on the second floor. The hot water in the bathroom kept cutting out, and the walls are paper thin so I was awoken each morning to either the roosters or the neighbors. Staff can be a little slow sometimes, and my room was only cleaned once (after I had asked).

Review 96:The staff was nice (the guy who runs the place knows the area and speaks English well). The restaurant had good food and it was just the right distance off the main strip.

Review 97:Wifi sometime weak signal

Review 98:-Nice and friendly staff -yummy dishes and drinks -lovely hammock in fornt of villa room -very good for take time to relax and travel

Review 99:we didn't like Vang Vieng town so we were glad we were staying at Champalao the Villa because we loved going back to the hotel after walking around the "poorly managed" town.

Review 100:the atmosphere, common places, sitting areas, good cafe, great staff, nice dogs..

Review 101:No complaints.

Review 102:RELAXING ! Rooms are arranged around an open garden courtyard area and are beautifully appointed. Large bathrooms -- no wet toilet when you shower! The grounds are positively lush and lovely. Fantastic tropical foliage abounds. Sit with a meal from their restaurant (open to the public) or sip great coffee or fruit smoothies or read a book or work on your computer or snooze on a platform futon bed. Varied seating offers you comfort. Mr. Sith and his beautiful wife Nuch are perfect hosts --- respecting your privacy but always available for help. True service-orientation. They will take very good care of you. They represent the best of the Lao people and their culture. Highly recommend

Review 103:Liked the fact it was 5mn away from the main restaurant/bar area, meaning it was quiet and we could enjoy our stay (after spending the last few days in Hanoi). We had the family room with garden view and were pleasantly surprise that it was a 2 bedroom 'suite'. We had a floor to ourselves with good privacy. We had booked for 2 nights but immediately added an extra night. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, making our 4 days stay wonderful. We would definitely go back if ever back in the area.

Review 104:Walls can be thin and the 3am-ers returning from the bar made some nights too loud.

Review 105:Comfy, clean spacious rooms. Great location (quiet, 3min from strip). Friendly staff and great breakfasts (crispy bacon and delicious shakes). We loved it here, we ate almost every meal at their restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the laid back garden ambience. Fully booked - they were constantly turning people away at their door because it was the place to stay so book ahead if you can.

Review 106:the whole thing: super friendly staff, room was clean and comfortable, phantastic quiet atmosphere, great breakfast, great dinner, reasonable prices,.... As i said in the title: the best i've had so far

Review 107:Sounds trivial but several times we didn't get what we ordered...this may have been a language difficulty. Not enough places to hang stuff in bedroom/bathroom... Yes this may sound trivial but when you live out of a rucksack you have a need.... at times... to hang stuff up.....

Review 108:Lounging area and decor fantastic

Review 109:After staying as a solo traveler for two nights almost a month before two staff members recogized me and said hello. You will not regret this place. Great for families... or a big group (of 8) wanting a good nighr of sleep and a great breakfast for beginning our two day trek. Awesome place overall.

Review 110:Nothing. No complaints. All of my friends said and feel the same way. Satisfied Everyone That I Was with. Perfect

Review 111:The staff is sooo nice. Perfect location you can walk everywhere except blue lagoon. Exactly where you want to be.

Review 112:The location of the hotel as per Google Map was wrong.

Review 113:Excellent location and the place was clean!

Review 114:Not much

Review 115:Good clean rooms - great view - a short 10 min walk to the tubing shops - stone's through from the food and Pizza joints

Review 116:Noise from bar across the street (stopped at midnight, and the music was ok :) )

Review 117:location, terrace with hammocks, relaxed atmosphere

Review 118:No view at all

Review 119:OK and quiet, not valued.

Review 120:Comfortable bed and nice balcony. I wanted a mountain view room which I feel are better value for money but they were booked unfortunately.

Review 121:Not found yet

Review 122:Beautiful garden, location is good, quite. Staff is really helpful though some of them can't speak English well.
