Reviews for Hotel Kempinski Palace Portorož
Review 1:Just as suggestion, for family and not only, in order to facilitate the multiple days staying, it would be very good to have half board option as well. Otherwise, the eating solutions for families are not always easy. Hope the management will think about..
Review 2:Hotel is excellent. Old building with very modern and rich refurbishment. Great and fashionable. Staff very high level and top courtesy. Everything at the best.
Review 3:The hotel rastaurant we planned to wisit was closed. Bathroom is a bit small. The price they are charging for the room, should include parking as well!
Review 4:Old part od the hotel and breakfast room are magnificent! Breakfast was excellent!
Review 5:For a five star hotel it is not acceptable that food at breakfast runs out.
Review 6:The room was very comfortable with a great sea view and a wonderful terrace. The receptionist was very friendly, stuff was helpful and the car parking service was excellent. The architecture with its habsburg style is also great.
Review 7:Overall wellness conditions. No aroma in the air, smell of sewage in wellness and Jacuzzi. dirty and falling apart faucets in jacuzzi. dust everywhere... closed outside pool.
Review 8:location, breakfast and interior of rooms
Review 9:NOTHInG!
Review 10:Everybody from the front desk and hotel stuff are amazing, helpful andinformative. The place is amazing escape and close to another beautifulhistoric city.
Review 11:Staff not so friendly and on the booking I booked for 2 people the room and they charged me an extra fee saying it was just for one! There are cheaper hotels with same comfort!
Review 12:Good hotel, Great location
Review 13:Long time at check in, breakfast was mediocre, they charged me different price for the room than at booking.com at time of booking confirmation. After a phone call to complain they credited the account w/o hesitation, but no real appology like a voucher with discount for our next stay
Review 14:The hotel bar and the two performers
Review 15:Reception is an standard office desk where receptionist have office chair while seating. He answers all phone calls and I was not offered to seat for check-in before he finished talking and it lasted 3-4 minutes. I stayed as in grocery store until he finished phone calls. Not enough care from personal for the breakfast because of missing personal. Toilet paper is below everyone's standards. I am environment friendly person but when it comes to personal hygiene I prefer white colour and soft 4-5 ply toilet paper. The one they use over there is 1-2 ply recycled one. No one can convince me that this one is good enough with 2 ply and brown colour.
Review 16:Location, room, breakfast, mattress, pillow, quilt.
Review 17:Concierge friendly but not always wise enough. Recommended taking a bike to Salt pans which was not a pleasant route. Did not warn that ID was required for casinos.
Review 18:Such a grand place! Never have I been given the chance to have a wonderful breakfast until NOON -- in a beautiful ballroom or terrace! Great grounds.
Review 19:Wifi reception in suite 132 was poor. There were not enough staff at the pool to take orders for food/drink. The ashtrays at the pool were junk and should be replaced with something of better quality and useability. The hotel beach is not free and expensive, no sand, not good for children and about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel in the heat. The beach directly outside the hotel is better as it is free amd has sand but is not nice, sand dirty and not near water - there is a busy walkeay in between. Its more like a marina and apart from one visit just spent our time in the hotel pool. There was no iron in the room. There was no jug or coffee machine for boiling water in the room.
Review 20:The suite (132) is highly recommended. Stayed in a rose suite with huge balcony overloiking sea and pool. Anything below this category of room only has a very tiny balcony enough to squeeze one or two people on. The pool was great to swim in. The staff were very friendly and when there was a staff member available service was excellent. Room service was excellent, fast, hot and good food. The breakfast buffet was great and highly recommended. It is family friendly even for small children - 2.5 year old.
Review 21:Perfect location in the center of Portoroz facing the sea, easily reachable by car from the main road, enough parking places. Swimming pool with sea water is available from early morning till late evening. With the bicycles which you get for free in the hotel the old town of Piran is only 20 min away. Delicious food in both restaurants in the hotel and in the ones on the embankment.
Review 22:Difficult to find a not so good area. At night there is live music in the beach area (at least in summer). You can hear the sound in the bedroom if you are facing the sea.
Review 23:Great place, very good staff, nice town
Review 24:The food at the restaurant Sophia was only average and overpriced for what it was. Also was the service at the restaurant extremely slow after our 2yr old got her meal we has to wait another 30 min for ours. And the restaurant wasn't even filled up.
Review 25:Top notch hotel you get what you paid for
Review 26:Access to the hotel beach costs 20 euros per person.
Review 27:Very central Location, just across the beach. Friendly staff. Spacious rooms and good wifi. Free access to heated sea water pool.
Review 28:I personally beleive asking 18 €/day for parking is quite a nonsense (there is nowhere else to park, no one told that kindly offered parking is not free/ or included in the price you pay for your stay). Inform your guests about the parking price or include it in the room price.
Review 29:I found it quite bad that every area in the hotel was a smoking area. When lying by the pool I had 2 men smoking cigars say right next to me so I had to move. I think about 90% of the people by the pool were smokers. They have no regard for children or non smokers and this needs addressing by the management. For this reason I would not return to this hotel as it really spoiled my enjoyment. I was told by the pool boy that they used to have half of the pool smoking and the other half non smoking but they did away with it.
Review 30:Location was great. Very friendly staff.
Review 31:We have got by email a room upgrade possibility for a seaview room a few days before our arrive, we ordered it, but at the check-in was not available yet, becouse the hotel was full. Yes in the upgrade email they keep the right for changing. So we stayed at our original order and price at check in, never mind. This room was also very nice and quiet. The car parking a little bit expensive.
Review 32:Perfect location, excellent rooms, cleanliness, nice stuff, very rich breakfast. The spa of the hotel is also very good.
Review 33:We were disappointed with the location of the hotel in town and the hotel rooms (with sea views) overlooking the street with shops and restaurants. We were also disappointed with the superior double room with sea view booked as the room was one of the few without a balcony. Our request to be moved to another hotel room with a balcony were thankfully granted after much negotiation and we moved from the older part of the hotel to a deluxe double room with a sea view in the (almost) newly built annex, overlooking the swimming pool. The young staff during breakfast were absent-minded and not the friendliest! Special orders took a long time to prepare – if indeed, they did even arrive at the breakfast table.
Review 34:The luxury and comfort of the modern, spacious and air conditioned double deluxe room with sea view in the new annex. The concierge could not do enough for us upon our arrival and during our stay at the hotel (valet parking, restaurant recommendations). We also enjoyed the swimming pool and its facilities.
Review 35:Very friendly and efficient staff, gave us great local restaurant recommendations and were helpful in planning day trips and hiring a car etc. Delicious breakfast and in a lovely room. We would definitely go back.
Review 36:Breakfast is ok but for a 5* Hotel the Buffet is very small and not everything what should be usuall is at the buffet. Service is very slow but friendly. At a 5☆ Hotel for that price per Night everything should be quicker
Review 37:Rooms are great with a super view to the sea and the rims are big with a fantastic bed
Review 38:1. The breakfast was mainly OK in the weekend, but during workdays it was far worse, less choice and the service was also less mindful. 2. It happened twice that despite the "do not disturb" sign was switched on, somebody was knocking on the door and than after we did not respond, he/she tried to come in (thus waking us up from our afternoon sleep).
Review 39:The room is nice, quiet and clean. The bed is huge and comfortable. The hotel building is very attractive. Nice big pool (filled with sea water).
Review 40:Selection of food are not so much , i would like more Vegetables and good waffle e.t.c.
Review 41:At fierst location and room , pool ist very fein and comfort and staff very kindly.
Review 42:Portoroz is a small place so don't expect too much - excellent hotel though
Review 43:Friendly and helpful staff who were prepared to assist. The seawater pool was lovely. The gourmet restaurant excellent .
Review 44:Some of the staff is very young and inexperienced, sometimes they're slow, or hard time understanding English. I'd rather call it funny, than annoying. Also, the Wifi is slow in some cases. Strange jacuzzi policy, no switch on button, it starts to work every 15 minutes. But these are really minor issues, it is a great hotel all together.
Review 45:Location, breakfast, rooms, concierge, valet service, etc, almost every service of the hotel. Amazing looks too. The housekeeping service is the best, I've ever experienced in my life.
Review 46:it's a real pity that the sea view from the breakfast terrace is obstructed
Review 47:very nice staff, the hotel itself is great in every way, the pool-bar and the one on the first floor (i think it was called palace bar) are awesome as well, I also loved the salt-water pool
Review 48:Brrrrrrrr :) .....Colder water in the indoor pool
Review 49:Proximity of everything beautiful in relation to the position of the hotel...great restaurants, nice old cities and nice places for taking a walk and for relaxing....
Review 50:Breakfast wasn't great also for a five star no tea and coffee in the rooms and no iron used our own which for a five star is a showing up.Also a small gripe was the noisey singing across the street until 1am fortunately we wasn't tired till after it went off.
Review 51:We liked the bed and the wifi. The room was fine. The pool Was good.
Review 52:Sauna and pool is too small, for this Hotel. A lot of Sauna visitors, not respect behavior rules (swimsuit, noice). At Spa: not enough different massages (for example: Ayurveda-90 min.)
Review 53:Comfortable Deluxe room, with see view. Very good breakfast in quiet ambient. Friendly staff.
Review 54:There is really nothing which was not right.
Review 55:Everything is just right here. This is a jewel on the beautiful Istrian coast. You can make strolls along the blue Adriatic to Piran or indulge in the various on site activities.
Review 56:there is nothing that is unpleasant
Review 57:everything, from the reception staff to the breakfast staff, the environment the taste of the interior design, in one word ALL
Review 58:nothing
Review 59:everything is top class including staff. This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in and I travel around Europe mainly for about 40 years now
Review 60:Only one thing, the walls in hallways are not suitable for such a standard hotel. You can see fingerprints and similar "paints" on the walls. The walls are some kind of dirty. Definitely not for 5 stars Kempinski hotel. But this is just one small thing. Everything else was just perfect.
Review 61:I was in a lot of hotels, but here I was sleeping on best mattress of all hotels. Mattress was just perfect. I checked who make this mattresses, because I want same for home :) Excellent bath and shower, very stylish. Great view on Portorož bay. Staff very kind. Very spacious rooms with beautiful decor. Excellent breakfast with first class food. Big balcony in our room on top floor.
Review 62:Size and variety of Sauna area is a bit small; only 1 Turkish and 1 Finnish sauna. Also, Finnish sauna is extremely bright. A dress code and (silent) phone usage policy in Sauna relaxation area shold be implemented.
Review 63:Everything.
Review 64:All was good!
Review 65:A great seaside hotel that is just delivering the quality you are looking for in a Kempinski resort. I was with my wife and a 4 year old daughter, they loved the experience The breakfast room and the breakfast is great! We tried Bubble bar, Sophia restaurant, Room service Pool and spa. There is nothing to complain about. A very very comfortable stay secured by a very professional staff and excellent surroundings. This can for sure be recommended.
Review 66:They gave us modern part. I wish to stay in old building.
Review 67:Hotel was in good location. Room was clean, comfortable and big enough. Open pool was nice. Breakfast could have more options. Cheeses were great !
Review 68:some small maintenance needed in our bathroom, eg slow draining shower, but overall we were very happy with the hotel
Review 69:Hotel has a great location across from the waterfront. Has a lovely infinity pool which is large and well kept. Staff were great but not at all pretentious. The spa was excellent. Very high quality cuisine. We lingered over breakfast as the food and ambiance were so enjoyable. Good service. Hotel lives up to expectations and would highly recommend it.
Review 70:The remote location
Review 71:The rooms, the staff, the facilities and the breakfasr were all great. The only drawback is that the hotel is about 4 Km outside of town, so if you don't want to walk for 30 40 minutes each way, you are studk with having to take a taxe for 10 - 15 Euros each time you want to wander into town. Other than that all is wonderful
Review 72:Staff felt more comfortable when we used English compared to the local language.
Review 73:We stayed in the old part. We were welcome at the reception desk, we liked the room, the pool and rich breakfasts.
Review 74:One day the pool was not cleaned properly and the water in the whirlpool was to cold
Review 75:This hotel has great location Staff is friendly and helpful Real 5 star hotel
Review 76:the garage is only accessible by the staff, which means that you must leave your keys and ask the concierge to bring your car each time you need it. The breakfast is not bad but could honestly be much better for a Five stars hotel. Our room was facing the parking, which make it relatively rather expansive especially in September.
Review 77:The Kempinsky Palace is a beautiful hotel ideally located by the seaside almost in the center of Portoroz. The modern part of it doesnt of course have the same atmosphere and charm as the old one but it is well designed and equiped. Large swimmingpool and spa facilities.
Review 78:For 5* hotel my " breakfast expectation " were higher, very average coffee, small fruit selections- no berries;
Review 79:Very attentive staff especially at pool area; friendly hotel for kids, great location,
Review 80:Staff were excellent - friendly, helpful, with quiet efficient service and superb knowledge and language skills. Recommendations were always spot on. Great ambience.
Review 81:SPA- sauna area is a small, it can be in better shape and infrasauna was not working properly Outdoor pool- is not able to cover the capacity of the hotel if you want to feel more space around you.
Review 82:Overall very nice hotel, room comfortable, breakfast delicious.
Review 83:The hotel is indeed a palace and we were made to feel like royalty for 8 nights. The Kempinski is a jewel. I dont want to say too much more in case too many other people find it. Suffice it to say that the staff provide service at a levels that I have never experienced before. First class and very, very subtle. Outstanding hotel.
Review 84:Lack of hotel private beach, prices of Meduza beach are too high (20EURO per person per day). Hotel restaurant prices do not correspont to the quality of dishes.
Review 85:Location, interiers, staff, breakfast at the fabulous open terrace and restaurant, spa area.
Review 86:The common areas like the pool and sauna where not clean at all and very, very crowded. The pool bar had a small staff soo we ended waiting to get a menu for 30 minutes only to be told that they only have one menu and that we should check it out at the bar. The pool area and the pool bar was the same area with the tanning beds so this is how we ended up with an old lady in her bathing suit sunbathing next to the table where we should have been eating. The cleaning staff of the room didn't provide all the cleaning supplies for the bathroom untill we alerted reception that insuificent shower gel was provided that day and that it was the only thing provided. In a 4 nights stay they didn't change the bad at all! The staff in general couldn't care less about the guests of the hotel, the only kind person in that hotel was the bell boy(the man that carried our bags). Very dissapointed in this hotel! It should not be a part of the Kempinski chain but the bad attitude of the staff and the dirty common areas explain the lower than normal price/night at this hotel in comparison to the other Kempinski hotels/resorts. Overall dissapointing experience!
Review 87:The garden of the hotel and the Imposing building!
Review 88:did not like the very small pool area....not much room for quiet and privacy.....no private beach for hotel guests ....you should make your future customers aware of the location and price of beach.....
Review 89:convenient location of hotel.....hospitality of staff.....very clean and comfortable room......very good choice of TV channels....overall exceptional hotel
Review 90:It would be worth to managed private beach only for hotel guests.
Review 91:We had very nice stay at Kempinsky Palac Hotel. Hotel is well situated directly at main street oposite of sand beach. It consists of two buildings - the oldest one and also the recent built one are very nice and with comfortable rooms. Our request was to have a silent room - we had deluxe room at newly built part of hotel. Room was spacious with large balcony and garden view. Hotel managed their staffs and facilities very well. I liked breakfast at wonderful terrace.
Review 92:The sea was a little disappointment, beach outside of hotel, cca 500 m and not very nice.
Review 93:Fantastic hotel, very attentive staff, nice pool, good meal, amazing room for breakfast.
Review 94:Smoking from guests during the breakfast permitted on the terrace even with small children present Variable level of cleaning (sometimes no cleaning of balcony) Problematic wifi signal in the room (however relatively good on the pool and hotel in general)
Review 95:Fantastic service from all staff members Generous and relaxed attitude with towels; water machine at the pool Very nice spacious rooms (modern wing) with good isolation Nice pool without so much hassle to get sunbed (July 2014) Elegant setting on terrace for breakfast; good food
Review 96:Rip Off Drinks and Rip off food. I have been working in Slovenia for several years, Slovenia is a great place. €21 for a drink and €27 for a pasta is a rip off. Plus €18 per night for parking...that is not mentioned. A real shame
Review 97:Location, Hotel, facilities, staff, beautiful
Review 98:Rooms, with reference to the Deluxe Sea view, do not match what you can find on the picture through the internet sites. It is recommended to be fair and show the real pictures as the rooms do not have a balcony as shown and neither a studio as shown. It is better to stay at standard double room or park view as the sea view is definitely NOT worth the premium price.
Review 99:Breakfast was one of the best ever tried
Review 100:We had some problems there, unexpected for a five star hotel and especially for a name like Kempinsky: when arrived we found an used towel on the floor in the bathroom, one bath robe was very visible broken, AC didn't work properly the first night and we had to complain to be set differently because it was not possible to do it manually at your wish, one of the room roof spots was hanging, the access to outside swimming pool was very slippery only partly covered with ant slippery carpets and when walking I fell down and hit the hard floor I was just advised to be more careful. Beside, the swimming pool has low capacity, is crowded and hard to find a free bed. On top, people are served with food at the beds and you will here a lot of cutlery noise very close to your ears. This hotel only has access to a beach that is 500m away and you have to pay for it. At breakfast we had to queue a lot for the live cooking. When showering is impossible to avoid wetting the floor due to the small glass wall.
Review 101:I had to call three times, so that finally somedbody came to fix my safe. Finally they forgot my wake up call, which was a problem since I had to catch a flight. The only excuse in both cases was: "we are fully booked" If they are fully booked, but not able to provide the full service, then they cannot charge the full price.

Review 126:High quality 5 star service. Great amenities excellent location. Historical building with exquisite modern updates
Review 127:People were smoking and could smoke everywhere. The hotel does not have beach and pool is cold, filled with sea water.
Review 128:Nice building and location
Review 129:Pool - slime at the bottom and mold around No change of towels in bathroom during 3 night stay - 5 star hotel ?!
Review 130:it didn't seem appropriate that there's extra charge for the beach in a house like this
