Reviews for Raffles Hotel Le Royal
Review 1:In a nutshell - avoid. I am a very frequent user of luxury hotels and this one is just a shame. Absolutely not worth the money. Took30 minutes to check me in. I have asked a room with one large bed as I'm travelling alone. Instead I have received a room with two small beds because the room I have booked was not ready yet - at 3pm! When I explained this is not what I have booked, they offered me a luxury presidential suite instead which is approx. 2 times more expensive - absolutely useless. I agreed to move into the room I didn't like because I already spent 30 min checking in and didn't want to waste more time. Breakfast is extremely poor. Absolutely not worth the money - I couldn't even eat my omelette, so bad it was. Fruit selection is very limited and this is in Cambodia where fruit is literally everywhere! Gym must be a joke - just one machine which is used for everything. More than one person in gym is not practical. The bed in the room is not v comfortable and the pillows are terrible. No proper toiletries in the bathroom for such a hotel - not even the ear sticks. Location is OK but not central at all - need to take the ride to go where there isar least some action. Stuff are friendly and smiling but totally useless.
Review 2:Nothing.
Review 3:The location is not walking distance to anything but rather in need of a tuk tuk or taxi.
Review 4:Service was exceptional! The facilities were also great, new and clean.
Review 5:The room was old, dark, and dingy. The pool view which was represented was almost nonexistent. The breakfast was below average with no table cloths on the table and the staff very indifferent. For the enormous price that they are charging this hotel should be a lot better.
Review 6:The only thing we liked wias the sense of being in a colonial hotel.
Review 7:It wold be helpful if the wi-fi in the room covered multiple devices, not just one log-in
Review 8:Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Any request, no matter how small, was handled efficiently and with a smile.
Review 9:They overcharged for a taxi we cancelled
Review 10:Lovely hotel but they need to update their credit card machines to chip and pin. We had real problems getting our cards recognised
Review 11:Using booking.com was a mistake cos no breakfast included and no cancellation. A quality hotel of this type should have an all inclusive ie breakfast in the reservation. People who want to save a few dollars on breakfast shouldn't stay here.
Review 12:History, elegance, staff, facilities
Review 13:Pillows were too soft. The hotel was good. But I was not thrilled with my visit to Phnom Penh. Found that most service people especially drivers expect (in some cases demanded) a tip from tourist every single time. It is quite annoying.
Review 14:Location is good. Bed is comfortable. Staff are accommodating.
Review 15:Stayed six nights to celebrate my wife's 21st anniversary of her 39th birthday. Expensive by my travel standards but worth every cent. Birthday dinner in the restaurant complete with cake, candles and singing staff. Then there's breakfast. Totally over the top. Beautiful, fresh and a great variety. Not looking forward to going home where I'll have to open my own doors and pull out my own dining chairs. After six days there had to be twenty staff who could greet us by name and apparently their only reason for getting out of bed that morning was to wait on your every need.
Review 16:The whole stay was a dream for us. It was heaven on earth. It was the first time in a Raffles and it was overwhelming! I would go back to Cambodia only for this hotel. The staff was extraordinary and the house is magic!
Review 17:sorry to say . missed flight back hk . reason why the desk person ordered taxi and said enough time to catch flight but needed to wait 15 mins for his taxi to arrive then traffic jam and then missed flight .
Review 18:great hotel . very peaceful
Review 19:Food options are extremely expensive, not expensive for Cambodia, expensive for anywhere (like 20 USD for a hamburger, 9$ for a bottle of water).
Review 20:One of the nicest hotels in Cambodia, if not the region, with the staff and service to match. Nice pool, super comfortable rooms, huge bathroom, etc. etc.
Review 21:Colonial atmosphere (staff too obsequious). Hotel well located for business purpose (close to ministries and embassies), but without restaurants or other amenities in direct vicinity - tuk tuk mandatory. Got a good rate through booking.com (non refundable, non cancellable), but when business trip was at risk being cancelled the hotel was absolutely inflexible and did not accept cancellation requests - with little leverage from booking.com on this.
Review 22:Colonial atmosphere (architecture and style).
Review 23:The food was not so good in the buffet at night, we found many dishes not very well cooked. Insufficient choice for a 5 star hotel, we to do a lot of explaining to get what we wanted. The staff knew we were not satisfied yet the management did not offer any compensation or reduction in cost. Issues like ice cream that had melted, hot drinks that were cold, not understanding internationally known items in a hotel of this supposed quality.
Review 24:The staff, ambiance and facilities
Review 25:I booked a room via booking.com and paid in advance. The room rate included breakfast. When I checked out, receptionist insisted that Breakfast was not included. I did not have a printout of reservation document with me and had to spend 15 minutes till he finally called someone to check it. Even after it was found that he had been making a totally wrong argument, he never expressed a word of apology till I asked him to do so.
Review 26:The time it took to correct the bill on check-out the first time (but no problem the second time)
Review 27:The wonderful staff The quiet, comfortable rooms The diverse breakfast buffet The cozy Elephant Bar The classy restaurant The beautiful pool area The convenient location
Review 28:They pushed quite hard for us to upgrade our room (for an EXTRA US$470 for 3 nights!) when we checked in after a long journey to the hotel and I felt I had to be quite firm in saying 'no' to a quite persistent receptionist. As a result I felt I could not really totally relax in this hotel but had to be on my guard - they give the impression of putting their needs before the needs of paying guests. If they have rooms lying idle why not give a free upgrade and give guests a good feeling of being looked after rather than leaving a rather unpleasant feeling of being exploited? When I pay very good money for a hotel I expect to get away from life's stresses rather than being presented with new ones. For a large room there was limited desk or table space to put things on (laptop and guide books and maps on desk does not leave room for much else). Only one bar of soap in the room - and a long walk from sink to shower to take it back and forth. Glazing was cracked in the sink, toilet flush button leaked water.
Review 29:Large comfortable Landmark Room with very high ceiling, large bathroom including stand-alone Victorian-style bath and shower. The view of the swimming pool from our shuttered window completed the feel that we had stepped back 50 years. The "Elephant Bar" with wicker chairs, pool table and cigar humidor oozes an old colonial feel.
Review 30:Buffet breakfast and dinner are OK but I have had much wider buffet choice in other large 5-star hotels in Asia - the Raffles offering is OK but not exceptional. Staff coming to the room gave the impression of serving you then pausing as if waiting for a tip - we didn't experience this in other hotels in Siem Reap and Kampot. Concierge could have been more helpful - I asked them to book a taxi for us to Kampot and they phoned our room to say they could "not get an answer", but that they had a hotel car (which was a lot more expensive). I said "could you try again" and magically within 5 minutes they had booked a taxi for us. Why not try again without being told to? I felt like they were putting their interests before those of their fee-paying guests.
Review 31:Comfortable "State Room". The hotel has retained the original architectural features and has the feel of a grand hotel from the colonial era (wood panelled staircase and lift, shutters on windows, grand entrance, 'Elephant Bar' with a colonial feel). Staff in the restaurant are polite and helpful.
Review 32:Being pressed to upgrade at considerable extra expense on arrival. We resisted. Hard sells like this aren't polite and make guests feel uncomfortable.
Review 33:Peacefulness,pools, old world colonial charm of building and majority of staff.
Review 34:Soo expencive for the quality given ,policies dont encourage people to come back ! Noisy room! Then they dont Provide tourist service as exploring wondeful Cambudia ,not only that they said to me we dont know any agency doing that.the problem on booking.com its been mentioned that they have travel. Service !!! making ways to get more monney that they dont deserve !!!
Review 35:Very hard bed. This is the second time I have been to Cambodia for business course. The reason I didn't stay with the rest of my course was the bed, but again a very hard uncomfortable bed. The other thing I didn't like is when I checked in the pressure to upgrade my room to a suite. I was out from 7.30am to 9.30pm each day with the course and had no need for a suite. However, the staff made me feel uncomfortable that I did not upgrade.
Review 36:Old building and history.
Review 37:We stayed 3 nights 4 days at a Colonial Sweet. On the first day, since there was only one small bath mat in front of a shower booth, was wet immediately, it was not comfortable for use by us. But next day, there were also another big bath mat in front of the washstand. There was Welcome Fruits on the first day, wasn't next day, but there was again at third day . I thought with that inconsistency of correspondence this hotel is not still as Highest-class hotel in Phnom Penh.
Review 38:The location was good. All staffs are greeting always smilingly. Although the colonial sweet was not so large, room was very nice with the higher-ceiling.
Review 39:Great service, nice room.
Review 40:Elephant Bar was great although drinks are pricey
Review 41:Nothing
Review 42:Great staff, housekeeping staff so helpful.especially mr no sary very kind. food was great.
Review 43:Best service I've ever had in a hotel.
Review 44:They could do better with in-room amenities.
Review 45:Excellant services
Review 46:The changes they made to the elephant bar
Review 47:Perfection from check in to check out
Review 48:Very pricey compared to other Phnom Penh hotels.
Review 49:Good service by staff.
Review 50:The food at the restaurant could be improved
Review 51:The elegant style of the property, the friendly and professional service, the wonderful swimming pools
Review 52:The care and friendliness of the staff.
Review 53:Well managed hotel with motivated and happy staff. Timeless elegance in a relaxed setting often lacking in modern hotels.
Review 54:Wifi very slow
Review 55:Good service
Review 56:Location, style and decoration
Review 57:Rooms need an urgent and complete update.
Review 58:Massage center fully book
Review 59:Everything
Review 60:Certain staff attitude
Review 61:Breakfast, Bed
Review 62:Noting
Review 63:Old world....
Review 64:could be a little more modern…but keeping the charm
Review 65:service tradition
Review 66:Didnt send more time at Raffles
Review 67:The breakfast spread and staff absolutely excellent.
Review 68:Butler was inattentive and wanted tipping all the time. Building work is going on started at 7.30 every morning. Pool dirty will never go back.
Review 69:Room was good
Review 70:I want to smell the lemongrass oil that was part of our experience last year. Bring back the lemongrass oil!
Review 71:When we went through the gates, we were in paradise on earth. Enough said!
Review 72:The elephant bar where you could have a quick game of pool before retiring. The pool was lovely and our room overlooking the pool was delightful. The staff were extremely helpful when asked for information. I could walk to the central market.
Review 73:The only small complaint was perhaps that my room was on the street side and that pool side rooms are more quiet.
Review 74:The atmosphere and grandeur, the friendliness and hospitality of the staff, and the location.
Review 75:While the difficulty was beautifully handled, a top class hotel like this should be more on top of its customer facing staff -- even if under pressure because fully booked. There was a cracked sink in our Landmark room, which we accepted because hotel gave us a (very) early check in.
Review 76:A lesson in how to deal with complaints when you're a top class hotel. Our "personal butler" neglected to tell us for 5 hours that the hotel's fine dining restaurant was fully booked. As this was our last night of holiday, we were less than amused -- paying top dollar, as residents we expect a table to be made available. However, once escalated, the hotel's food and beverage manager Martin could not have been more helpful, offering a variety of options, recommending and booking a suitable restaurant for us and arranging complimentary limo transport. How to turn a negative into a positive -- the restaurant, Topaz, was superb and we had a great evening. Raffles is a beautiful hotel full of old world charm. The twin pools and landscaping are beautiful but essentially its core business in this location is business with the shouting into mobiles by the pool this inevitably involves.
Review 77:Housekeeping was poor. When checked in had to ask for towels to be brought. On two further occasions we had to ask for towels and our room was not serviced in the evening with bed turned down, fresh towels, shampoo, drinking water etc. We did complain to reception on two occasions regarding this but this was not taken on board.
Review 78:This is our second visit to this hotel and it was as good as we remember it. Especially the elephant bar ( the manager very attentive and professional)which has such great atmosphere with nice drinks and you can even have your dinner there. Concierge very helpful with organising tour, booking their car with driver etc. The room very comfortable although the wifi a bit erratic.
Review 79:Female staff in Elephant bar were surly, they need some training how to treat a customer; in general staff need to communicate better: e.g. don't ask us 4 times what time airport drop is required; extremely noisy flush of toilet... Suggestion: why not leave the option to NOT change towels every day.
Review 80:The room (except for the toilet), check-in, pool.
Review 81:MOSQUITOS the toilet and the shower were both quite small
Review 82:Exceptional service.. staff are extremely well trained. good room service food. elephant bar.. didnt really like the cocktails (signatures) but like the 1/2 yard of beer.
Review 83:I don't like is the expose bathtub, which the water drainage is not connect to the waste trap system. That make the whole floor wet.
Review 84:Staff are well trained. And morning breakfast is good which give me a very comfortable stomach to start with the day.
Review 85:Maybe a little too much attention!
Review 86:I liked being cossetted. I was impressed with the help I got when in difficulties in forward booking. They couldn't have been kinder or more efficient.
Review 87:There were ants in the bathroom but we lived in the old part of the hotel.
Review 88:We loved almost everything - the location is comfortable, the whole atmosphere of colonial hotel is nice, the area is beautiful, rooms are convenient, the service is friendly - excelent hotel
Review 89:We were made to feel extremely welcome from our collection at the airport. The hotel is very charming, similar to the Raffles that we are familiar with here in Singapore. Staff are very attentive and will aid and assist you in every way possible. The New Year Cambodian Gala dinner around the pool area was spectacular. Worth every penny! A great end to our mini-moon to Cambodia.
Review 90:When we had a problem with the seating arrangements at dinner the manager could not make a decision without asking approval from his manager. We felt the majority of the staff would benefit from further training. We felt disappointed as our expectations of the Raffles hotel chain were not met.
Review 91:The grandeur of the building.
Review 92:Exceedingly vintage feel with a heavy atmosphere even though it was Christmas time.no sense of real cheer. Felt it's a better place for elderly 》70yrs individuals Not much activity for the young I had a 8yr old who had no activities. The staff always esp the manager's had a polite but stiff feel to their mannerisms . I've stayed in a lot of places and didn't really feel too welcomed. Its like a place that is run by a manager who instructs his staff to smile laugh etc etc but no heart to this . Further for a institute like raffles it felt really short of the hospitality expected of raffles. Lastly I feel they need to add variety to their menu and guest facilities esp if u are going to charge a crazy fancy prize.
Review 93:Liked the heritage exterior Politeness of doormen and cleaners and most housekeeping staff. Breakfast was good but repetitive and boring. Rooms were clean and nice but cramped .
Review 94:There was renovation going on during my stay - did not know they would do construction work during the weekend.
Review 95:The colonial facade, it feels like home. The staff were very attentive, always pleasant and easy to communicate with. Convenient to get around, excellent room service menu and wine selection.
Review 96:Swimming pool was not well lit in evening, but I appreciate being able to swim after a long hot day.
Review 97:Feeling welcome by staff who were eager to help. Breakfast buffet was overwhelming with choices, all delicious.
Review 98:Weird interrogation by hotel representative upon arrival while waiting for the room to be prepared
Review 99:Cool vintage style (furniture, service etc.) Excellent breakfast
Review 100:The food was excellent, the staff very helpful and attentive. The room we had was very luxurious and we enjoyed our stay. The spa treatments were very relaxing. I would recommend the hotel and use again in the future.
Review 101:Bar staff dragged the bins through the Elephant Bar, switched off themusic and allowed some unauthorised visitors into the bar, after thesenior staff left on the Saturday evening. A very disappointing way tofinish the evening after the excellent fine dining experience.
Review 102:Immaculate, beautiful room. Fine dining was excellent. Propertypresentation is pristine.
Review 103:The service was excellent, the greating was the best I have experienced. The rooms are spacious and very very well appointed. It was exactly what you would expect from a 5 star luxury hotel and more.
Review 104:Bathroom needs some renovation. Mosquito hordes. They should provide us with mosquito nets at least. Spa facilities(jacuzzi & sauna) are not so luxurious - very slopy.
Review 105:Perfect place to recharge your batteries after Cambodia experiance. Extremely friendly staff. Good food. Good tea-time. Unlimited supply of complimentary drinking water. Cosy oasis like swimming pool. Fast internet. Superb location.
Review 106:The hotel I perfectly managed in Raffles Singare stile, which means, luxury, attention to details and a lot of colonial charm. Great place to stay, rates are also reasonable considering the level of the hotel
Review 107:Everything was correct!
Review 108:This old hotel has a charm, reminiscent of colonial times. Very clean, very good food and nice Elephant Bar. A must to see and have a drink!
Review 109:The Elephant bar was a bit disappointing with insufficient seating and slow service.
Review 110:The ambience and style of the hotel was calm and tranquil. Staff were friendly and attentive. It felt like an oasis of calm in this busy city .
Review 111:The quality was as expected and very good. The freindliness of the staff was truly exceptional. A recommended stay.
Review 112:Swimming pool water was murky.
Review 113:A charming hotel with a great ambiance. Very well maintained. The Elephant Bar is special.
Review 114:Nothing really.
Review 115:Colonial style, classy hotel. Great location. The service was excellent.
Review 116:Nothing, it was a class hotel.
Review 117:Old fashion style and sophisication.
Review 118:Mother nature disturbents
Review 119:Service
Review 120:Everything faultless
Review 121:The building architecture in Colonial style and the Great atmosphere in all the room.
Review 122:The room, the welcoming drink was delicious and the breakfast.
Review 123:Some of the staff were not very friendly or smiling.
Review 124:The room and balcony overlooking the pool.
Review 125:Not a Luxury Hotel .I will never stay again. The staff is very poor.
Review 126:Not much.
Review 127:Courteous and friendly staff. The ambience of the hotel was excellent
Review 128:All staff were incredibly friendly and responsive, without being intrusive. Food and drink of a high standard without breaking the bank.
