Reviews for Hotel Vilayvong

Review 1:No wifi in the room, you should go to the reception for connecting wifi . The room is clean but old , everything is old even cheap , maybe because of the raining day , the towel is a little smelly. The shower is too low , you should hold it over your head for shower . The shower and the toilet are together, when you take a shower , everything gets wet .

Review 2:The view from the balcony is great . The room is big the bed is big . The vegan breakfast is simple but good .

Review 3:the breakfast was pretty pathetic. why do we have to remove our shoes when it is pretty dusty the climb up to our room.

Review 4:The view was pretty. Room was decent.

Review 5:-air conditioner is slowly cold -some part of room is still dirty -water is not running the day i visit. (about 2 hours)

Review 6:-hotel is near the stopping point of kayaking -good view of river (if you be on the 4th floor) -nice staff -not too far from the market or restaurant -big room

Review 7:WiFi worked periodically at best (I'm talking Level 3 here) - was compelled to take laptop down to reception to get any reliable signal.Air Con ... the Vilayvong isn't Robinson Crusoe in this regard in Laos, it would appear they use a 'governor' system whereby you can't change the fan speed. So basically you have to sit motionless in your room lest any body movement increases the ambient temperature a nano-degree above absolute minimum comfort level.Floor level of bathroom was out of whack so toilet and general area outside of shower (in corner .. all common floor area) was constantly wet.Light in bathroom didn't work. The friendly staff helped me out (I mean no sarcastic disrespect here .. they were genuinely helpful) .. I just had to hit the switch with force with something like the butt end of a knife. Hey presto - let there be light! One bed side light was missing .. .just raw wiring left exposed where a light fixture once featured.Hey I'm no prude, I'm used to roughing it ... and to be very fair we only paid peanuts for our triple room. I can forgive every foible listed above as rustic Lao charm but I draw the line with breakfast .. it was abject - seriously pathetic. I ordered boiled eggs one morning .. I got to boiled eggs in a bowl (still in shell) and a bread roll ... that was it. The next morning I ordered an omelette .. I received the most austere plain egg omelette on a plate with a bread roll. Seriously ....Hey I went cheap and I copped my whack ... If I was a backpacker with a couple of mates trying to save a buck then this is the spot for you.If you are looking for a cheap getaway with a semblance of comfort ... this is not for you.I did see bungalows down the front of the restaurant (all part of Vilayvong) that looked much more appealing than our digs.

Review 8:To their credit, the staff were friendly and did what they could to remedy the issues that we encountered. To be fair, we booked a triple (myself and my two sons) that was extremely affordable. A wise man once told me that if something is too good to be true, it usually is. I should have listened.

Review 9:Poor WIFI, only worked regularly in Reception on the ground floor. Ordinary breakfast for 3 out 4 mornings. Staff not that helpful and distracted at times.

Review 10:Beautiful view over Nam Song from my balcony on 4th floor. Quiet end of town but easy walk.

Review 11:- staff required additional payment for the change of towel. - 10 min from the center of Van vieng

Review 12:- relatively large room - has good scenery (although its hard to see the river)

Review 13:My towels werent changed, bed is not comfortable. I already stated in the booking that I preferred one large double for bed but when I came, a staff told me that I booked two singles and gave me two single beds.

Review 14:May be wifi

Review 15:The breakfast was rather minimalistic and the same every day. We happened to get a buffet once, but that was probably due to some special occasion, since the next day there was again a choice of egg dishes, bread and instant coffee/tea bags.

Review 16:The hotel is about 5-10 min walk from everything, but is in a quiet pace and features very nice views. The staff is generally very helpful and efficient.

Review 17:Very dark closed in balcony - no air- flow. Poor mattresses. No housecleaning service at all despite requesting everyday zero attention from the staff. No light for nighttime reading

Review 18:Decent location, reasonably quiet as long as the hotel next door isn't hosting a karaoke party

Review 19:Staff had little english. No wifi in room overpriced . Poor cleaning. Very meagre breakfast that at 7,45am you had to ask for food for breakfast. Took money from my card without asking if i wanted to pay cash

Review 20:Location

Review 21:Desk staff not great. Breakfast not great. Mixed up our bookings..one made by me fora twin, and one made by Ros Tobin for a single. The desk staff claimed they had no details of my booking and we were given one room with three singles. On checking out, they insisted we had to pay for the two rooms, as my booking had now been found

Review 22:Balcony and views. Closeness to bamboo bridge and the peaceful other side. Handy for hospital. Cleanliness.

Review 23:Like in other guesthouses bathroom was not so nice and smelly.

Review 24:Good location a little away from busy center. But still everything in walking distance. Third and fourth floor offer a nice view. Big bed but as everywhere quite hard.

Review 25:The breakdSt was very basic and a bit disorganised. There was a muddle over the booking with the hotel so although 2 rooms were booked only 1 was available.

Review 26:The. View from the balcony was beautiful. A quiet yet convenient location.

Review 27:The rooms upstairs have a beautiful view of the mountains. Our bungalows were a bit dark without a view.

Review 28:We stayed in spacious bungalows on the hotel grounds. It was quiet and safe. We were in walking distance of the restaurants, atms and booking agencies. We were happy to have mosquito nets.

Review 29:Some flooding in the bsthroom due to bad construction.

Review 30:Friendly staff and quick response to complaints. Breakfast was substantive

Review 31:Low wi-fi signal, cannot access to the wi-fi from the bedroom. Breakfast was low-quality. No maid come to clean up the room.

Review 32:wifi is useless

Review 52:Good view

Review 53:Provide kettle at room to boil hot water.

Review 54:Screnery from the hotel balcony along The River Song. Good location to nearby paddy farm walk.

Review 55:Allowed early check-in... free breakfast

Review 56:Internet connection slow, something usual in all Laos anyway.

Review 57:Best views in town. Big and clean rooms.

Review 58:The balcony view of the river and the location and room rate

Review 59:We like to warn travellers who intend to book into this hotel to be very careful as the owner at the hotel is very dishonest. In February this year (2014), we booked through Booking.com for a night's stay here. When we arrived, we were asked to sign a credit card slip for the value of the stay. We did not want to pay by credit card (there was a 3% charge) and intended to settle the payment in cash, but we signed the slip anyway as we thought it was just for security deposit, and the slip would be returned to us upon checking out.The next morning when we checked out, we paid to the owner USD30.00 with a USD100.00 note. He in returned gave us the equivalent of the USD70 change in local currency (Kips 560,000 comprising 5 x Kips 100,000 and the rest in smaller change, also in Kips). He was very keen about the USD and asked us whether we had any more to change with him. We told him we did not need more Kips at the moment. At the same time, our onward transportation arrived earlier than expected. In our haste to leave, we did not ask for a receipt for the cash paid, or for the return of the credit card slip signed the day before.Just because we did not ask for the receipt for the cash paid, this owner took the advantage to cash in our credit card too. Despite emailing Hotel Vilayvong and Booking.com many times about the double charging, the hotel refused to refund us the overcharged amount. Booking.com could do nothing for us even though we have used Booking.com for years and have booked hotels through them all over the world, so we are in a way very disappointed with Booking.com too. However, recently, Booking.com has offered a goodwill payment to us of 20% of the USD 30.00, which we feel does not address the problem of dealing with unscrupulous hotels, particularly as we let Booking.com have our credit card details each time we booked through them. We would rather they reassure us that they will drop dishonest establishments from their books.

Review 60:Breakfast value. Also, we stayed in the main building with a window facing away from the road. However, there was no view of the river as the bungalows were blocking any view.

Review 61:This hotel has a lot of positives but could enhance it's value by training staff to a higher level. Most seem detached. I would guess it's a management problem.

Review 62:We had trouble with getting a hot shower with any water pressure butsince it was not cold weather this wasn't too bad a problem.

Review 63:We stayed up stairs- 4th floor facing the hills and had a fantastic viewand a balcony ...one of the best views we have had in Asia. Hotel is notfar from the centre if town...which was a lot quieter than we expected.

Review 64:Vilayvong Htl lies a little south of the village Center of Vang Vieng.Walk to immediate center 10 minutes. The hotel has two buildingsconnected to each other. The stairs are uneven and sometimes steep, sometimes extremely Our room 401 (twin) was a corner-room with awonderful view of the mountains and the river. Mind you: no such viewfrom lower levels than 4. The room was dirty, as was the bathroom andthe balcony. Upon our request the room was cleaned again. The result wasnot satisfying. The balcony was never cleaned. It was covered with dust. The rooms facilities were minimal. The bathroom was bad...Breakfast was minimalistic. Hotwaterfountain and bags of instant-coffees. Lazy staff, enjoying TV. Place was filthy. The people of Vilayvong were ignorant and lazy. Sorry to say that. We encountered very many friendly people in Laos. Not in Vilayvong.

Review 65:They don't take credit cards so it wiped out our cash. Their mopeds were pricey to rent, so we found a less expensive one in town.

Review 66:The location was perfect because it was a short walk to town, but off a quiet street. It was new construction, the family that owns it is sweet, and the breakfast was delicious.

Review 67:very hard to find staff and then any that can speak English. The main hotel rooms have good views but avoid tje bungalows which we were in - very noisy, a bit gloomy and no view.

Review 68:good location just south of main town

Review 69:No wardrobe, bath needs an urgent renovation (always water on the floor), I stayed 4 nights and the room was never cleaned, breakfast is very poor - hotel is overprized

Review 70:The view, beds are nice

Review 71:Rooms a bit minimalistic. Could use some modern decorating. Power point for refrigerator faulty so no cold beer.

Review 72:Large room with a great view of surrounding mountains and nearby river. Would have liked more time just to chill on balcony. Good value for this size room. About a 10 minute walk to centre of Vang Vieng

Review 73:The Staff is very helpfull. The view on the river, the lime stones hills from the 4th floor's room is magnificient. The country side with very friendly people. Great walk in wondeful scenery.

Review 74:We reserved the bangalow with river view, but there is no room with this view. We therefore moved to the upper building. The room was clean enough but there was nothing special. This is not more than 2 star hotel. Its location is near the river but not so nice.

Review 75:-

Review 76:The staff were not very helpful and did not speak the best English. I found many locals who were way more friendly, cool, and helpful.

Review 89:Bathroom was ordinary. Mosquito nets had holes in them. Noisy.

Review 90:wifi not connected to every room

Review 91:can walk from the bus station end point of kayaking simple breakfast provided

Review 92:Really a little bit too basic for its price (no shower gel or closet)

Review 93:The view is most likely the best in town

Review 95:It is dirty. Staff are lazy.So far from center.
