Reviews for Convento de São Francisco
Review 1:Beware that there's almost zero sound proof between the rooms and the echoish hallways.
Review 2:Unique place, the beautiful rooms of the old monastery, awesome view to the sea. We had the whole place to ourselves almost the whole time as it was December off season. Very calm.
Review 3:The communal area was let to a big noisy study group 9.30am - 8pm for 2 days which felt awkward for us.
Review 4:Fantastic architecture and decor, very atmospheric building. Lovely fresh pineapples
Review 5:Stairs might be a problem for elderly or disabled.
Review 6:Authentic real original building, fabulous views, enormous rooms, great location in Vila Franco d Campo.
Review 7:beds are not comfortable, rooms are a little moist. not strange perhaps as they date from 1600 :) but they could (and i think should) try to dehumidify the rooms.
Review 8:wonderful place to be. unique, historic and wonderful rooms. great atmosphere and friendly and willing hosting family.
Review 9:WLAN only available in common area
Review 10:historic ambiente with wonderful furnishings and decor, lovely common areas to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and views, delicious breakfast with local produce (e.g. yummy fresh ananas!), wonderful hosts
Review 11:Beautiful 17th-century convent building restored with the right balance of authenticity and comfort: it's not overdone decoratively, but it doesn't stint on comfort. The hosts and all the staff were charming and helpful, inviting us to treat it like our home. The secluded garden and swimming pool were gorgeous and the beds were bliss.
Review 12:Simply amazing! The owner and staff were terrific and made us feel right at home. You can't help but relax here and the location is perfect! We are already trying to plan our next trip back!
Review 13:A lovely welcome when we arrived at midnight after a delayed flight. Wonderfully peaceful, unique accommodation with a massive bedroom, lovely fresh pineapple and freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast, lovely swimming pool. Recommendations for the best restaurants on the island.
Review 14:Lovely airy and well designed room, lots of communal areas to roam around and sit it, great breakfast including excellent cheeses and homegrown pineapple and a lovely friendly couple who run it. Despite the hotel being full, the size of the place compared with the small number of rooms made it feel very spacious, uncrowded and relaxing.
Review 15:The rooms are bit damp and chilly but something the you'll have to expect when staying at this kind of place.
Review 16:Really nice and great if you're looking for something special. The owner seems to be a real power woman and were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, but not great. Really loved the room and the building. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 17:The beds, they were comfortable but personally I would prefer a larger bed especially as the rooms are fabulously large.
Review 18:The atmosphere, the lovely staff, the views, being able to step back to the 16th Century, the lava bathroom with a view to die for!
Review 19:Too far from airport for a short stay. Had to go to ATM for cash payment.
Review 20:An elegant, quiet stay is yours in this huge surreal place. Rooms are spacious and bathrooms nicely updated. Besides the owners we only saw two other people at breakfast. Fixed drinks at honor bar in large art-filled living room and took them out to terrace for sunset. Safe, friendly town where locals directed us to pizza place for late Sunday dinner... outside next to seawall, with inexpensive but very good food. A delightful experience.
Review 21:What the breakfast did include was excellent (especially the fresh pineapple from the neighbouring cultivator) but for the quality and price range of this establishment, the breakfast should include more than it does, e.g. presunto, fresh fruit, whole grain cereal or granola, yoghurt, etc. The neighbourhood is unfortunately not free of the traditional barking dogs which disturbed our sleep.
Review 22:The atomsophere and decor - much of the old convent: walls, furnishings, spirit, seem to have been conserved and one can just wander through the cloister, the bell tower and other original rooms used by the Franciscan monks. The decor is tasteful, sophisticated. The bar area and swimming pool are lovely. Our room was decorated with antiques and everything was fully modern and very comfortable.
Review 23:We had to pay cash.
Review 24:Clean rooms in a historic building. Breakfast with home made jams and cheeses. Our checkout time was extended with 6 hours without any additional cost so that we could go to the beach and come back to take a shower.
Review 25:- at this price range, breakfast could be better, offering more than just bread, boiled eggs, jam and cheese
Review 26:+ One of the most special hotels we have ever staid in + this old convent is lovely restored to a beautiful hotel + all rooms have very beautiful bathrooms and an open fireplace, firewood is available + The areas accessible for all hotel guests are furnished with lovely antiques and offer great opportunities to read and relax + very beautiful garden with big outdoor-pool + big roof terrace with great view over the sea and Ilheu da Vila Franca

Review 30:Room too dark. Some traffic noise.
Review 31:An atmospheric, unusual place to stay. Nice pool.
Review 32:Loved staying in a historical building, the owner was very nice and helpful.
Review 33:Lovely, unique property
Review 34:You feel like you have gone back in time but still have all the modern conveniences
Review 35:Camera molto umida e si paga solo in contanti.
Review 36:La location è davvero suggestiva!
Review 37:The price is not reflecting the poor confort and installations. To expensive!!! You only can pay cash.
Review 38:The building.
Review 39:Lovely owners, such a wonderful place and peaceful feeling to this B&B. It is truly an experience and you will not want to stay at a typical hotel again. I look forward to bringing back my boyfriend to this Island and these accommodations. Take note, it is a converted convent, and like lots of the churches you go into, there may be a scent of mildew here and there...I just opened the window and all was well. I have seen some cranky posts from a past guest or 2, yet it comes with the territory. I highly recommend the Convent and regret not staying longer. enjoy!
Review 40:This hotel was a real experience - the chance to stay in a convent does not happen too often does it. Unusual, historical, authentic, charming and enchanting. At breakfast there was everything including freshly squeezed orange juice and local pinapples and a boiled egg just waiting for you. Also free wifi in the tv room. I also really liked a real fire place in the room - a special touch for romantics and warm.
Review 41:mildew smell - but not unexpected in such an historic property. Beds a little soft!
Review 42:Spacious rooms, breakfast, hosts, unique style of property
Review 43:Love the original site. Quiet n charming place, lovely room and huge bathroom Very friendly owners willing to go the extra mile to help!
Review 44:no wifi in room, only in one location
Review 45:nice breakfast, amazing building, very friendly staff.
