Reviews for Hotel Smart

Review 1:Some had the opinion that personnel wasn't frienly enough, but maybe they have also read that and improved. Very clean and tidy hotel, also environment and pool, but seems that we vere the only ones using it;)

Review 2:Parking Garage is rather cosy. Lots of annoying pillars. Take a moment to asses the situation and pick a spot.

Review 3:Good Wifi, good food, good and cheap train connection to Lisbon.

Review 4:THE HOTEL CLOSED FROM 2AM TO 7AM, WE HAD A 4 AM DEPARTURE AND HAD TO WAKEN ONE OF THE STAFF TO LET US OUT.

Review 5:THE LOCATION WAS PERFECT FOR UOR TRIP.THEHOTEL, STAFF, BREAKFAST WERE ALL EXCELLENT. THE HOTEL IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE ESTORIL CASINO.

Review 6:The owner is a bit morose and in serious need of smiles. It felt as though attending the guests were a burden on him.

Review 7:The breakfast was quite good. The hotel has a nice, typically Portuguese and loveable atmosphere what with all the tiled walls.

Review 8:This hotel is in an excellent location with secure parking and good facilities at a very reasonable price. Walking distance of the beach and train station for sightseeing trips into Lisbon.

Review 9:Hotel was a long uphill walk from beach area but we accepted that. Fine if you have transport.

Review 10:Staff were friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. Portuguese style hotel which we liked.

Review 11:The one female member of staff who sometimes worked at the reception desk and also worked clearing breakfast plates was rude, unfriendly, unhelpful and spoilt the overall stay at Hotel Smart. I would advise the hotel to give her a job in the back office and not serving guests. It's a pity there were no sunloungers to lie in the sun near the pool. Only seats and tables.

Review 12:The male staff were very friendly and kind. The building is beautiful. The pool and garden feels like an oasis.

Review 13:Does not offer "free cancellation" and money taken in full when booking. I believe non-refundable. Staff at reception seem slightly disinterested and I sense disinclined to try to speak English. Check-out was matter-of fact, no enquiry if stay was good, no 'bon voyage'. Little touches that make a guest feel welcome!

Review 14:Superb quiet location (except barking dogs nearby!) and very good facilities. Breakfast also good. Fine building like a private villa. Garden and pool.

Review 15:This is a very comfortable hotel with large, airy rooms, a nice garden and friendly staff. It is a short walk from the beach. I recommend it very highly. The single improvement I would suggest is that they get a juicer and serve fresh juice at breakfast and in the bar.

Review 16:Breakfast could become monotonous after 4 day's?

Review 17:A charming old fashioned feel which represented the Country very well, beautiful gardens surrounding the Hotel, and friendly helpful staff. The hotel was spotlesly clean throughout our stay

Review 18:The bed was s little hard. More information given about the area and local events!

Review 19:The hotel was very good. We liked the size of the hotel, family run, pool, wifi, cleanliness!

Review 20:No air conditioning, but the windows all opened, and had an amazing breeze.

Review 21:Hotel was very quaint and charming. A cute little European hotel, almost like a B&B.

Review 22:On the first morning we were woken up by drilling and hammering immediately below us before 9.00am The pool only had table and chairs no loungers or anything comfortable around it. It was quite a hilly walk to the bus stop/ railway line where you needed to go as facilities in Estoril were very limited.( not much in the way of shops or restaurants)

Review 23:Sunny, light good sized room. Friendly staff. Pretty garden.

Review 24:the only thing I didn't like was tile floor, can be a bit of a noise from other rooms.

Review 25:short walk to everything, lovely &quiet great night sleep, comfy bed, great breakfast, safe ,parking underground,we had a higher floor, balcony great for afew nights stay.would be better with a car, .we had so great for us.safe in rooms.

Review 26:Rooms have small windows unless you book balcony room. When I requested one unfortunately I been informed all are occupied already. As its nice for me to have view was upset with small windows in the room. Walls are quit fin so could hear people on corridor and next door. Also very very poor breakfast: juices from machine tasteless, just one type of cheese and meat. Although nice fresh local fruits and local fresh jam's. Kettle and fridge would be very handy for quick snack as there are no restaurants around or in the hotel and breakfast offer not the best.

Review 27:Very comfortable location: 5 min from beach and 10 min from train station. Friendly staff, clean room.

Review 28:Nothing to report.

Review 29:Stylish, well-appointed mansion with a well-maintained garden. A quiet elevated location, 10 minutes walk from the sea-front. We always get our favourite room with a small balcony on the second floor. No fuss, friendly staff.

Review 30:Was met by a host himself- extremely unfriendly. Instead of help to organize a place in a garage, began to explain that my car is very uncomfortable because he is repairing his own car there. The. He recommended me to walk instead of taking my own car as far as in hard to push the button for the gate. ))) the host should be more polite and friendly

Review 31:As a small family run hotel we would expected maybe a little bit friendlier service.

Review 32:We stayed here for 5 nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel was clean, the gardens & pool immaculate. A lovely quiet area with a short walk to the beach.

Review 33:Hotel Smart delivered the complete small hotel experience. Like Faulty Towers without the faults. And highly cost-effective. A few blocks to beach, groceries and neighborhood restaurants.

Review 34:The room was spacious and spotless. The decor throughout hotel is bright and tasteful. Breakfast was better than some reviews had suggested. The machine makes good coffee and is worth the short wait for americano, espresso, etc.

Review 35:Extremely unfriendly staff - so much so that I cannot believe they work in hospitality ?? - Philip is very nice - absolutely no info on the local area offered - all noises in other bedrooms can be heard - the coffee machine is very slow & causes delays & very noisy - the warm milk out for the cornflakes is rotten & one has to ask for new breakfast buffet dishes & milk a lot especially after 9.30am - A lot of tables reserved & not obvious for whom? No full bar

Review 36:Value for money - decor - pool - villa -with great views - Spotlessly clean - Elevator - nice area - Promenade along sea - nearness to train & buses - Parking

Review 37:No bad experiences...perhaps the beds could be a little bit softer.

Review 38:The cleanliness first off. A quiet relaxed atmosphere. Nice breakfasts including good coffee.

Review 39:No isolation, you can hear everything what people are saying in the corridor. Crowded at breakfast (little choice), queuing for 10min to get your coffee.

Review 40:Good size rooms, high ceiling. A fresh room, parking space in garage underground. A short walk to the beach.

Review 41:The staff were very cranky, not friendly or flexible at all. At breakfast the lady would rarely smile, and whatever we would ask her, it would always be a problem. The bed was very very hard and small. The breakfast was ok, but it could be better, there wasn't much imagination there, everyday the same. There's no good vibes in that place, very heavy people working there, never happy.

Review 42:The location is great, right at the center of Estoril, walking distance from the beaches. The price was also very attractive compared with other hotels in the neighberhoud. The room was always very clean. The room and bathroom had a good size.

Review 43:I told them that I would do early check-in.When I went there, there was an old man. I told him about the situation and he didn't tend to help, although there were vacant rooms. I was in the lobby doing the computer things and not an hour passed that the young receptionist told me that the room is ready. Not a big problem but just to let you know...

Review 44:the location, the cleanliness and the P/P rate. The receptionist man ( the young one) was very helpful and kind, with a smiling face. breakfast ok.

Review 45:- staff in the reception is not helpfull at all: on arrival i had no help with the bags, neighter with the indication of where the room was located or hotel facilities - i was also refused to used de "free" underground parking when i requested for it - the internet went down during the night - cold rooms

Review 46:- clean rooms - free breakfast - quiet

Review 47:Would like to make tea+coffee but no big deal for 2 days

Review 48:Hotel is charming, very clean and fairly close to town, train and beach. We would use again if in the area. Easy walk to Cascais along the gorgeous seafront. Emailed regarding booking and I got a very prompt reply.

Review 49:Rooms were a bit chilly, probably due to high relative humidity of Estoril. mattresses were a bit hard

Review 50:Friendliness and responsiveness of staff. Good breakfast. excellent underground parking.

Review 51:The wi-fi signal was poor, and there were no place to work (the lobby have low tables and the desk in the room is tiny). Since I came for a conference, it would be nice to have an Iron in the rooms.

Review 52:The hotel is simple yet comfortable, and is kept in very good shape. Breakfast was also very good.

Review 53:I actually got flu from being so cold..the small radiator didn't heat up my room enough..could do with a fridge or kettle for tea..

Review 54:I imagine that this place is ideal in the summer, and the size of the room is great. There is also free wifi and parking.

Review 55:In Winter room was cold, heating was centralized and we couldn't change it Pillows were of low quality

Review 56:Staff was very friendly Parking available and included in price Room was large with big windows

Review 57:Probably the breakfast should be more varied / more fruit

Review 58:The friendly staff, the facilities, the location near the beach and public transport (Cascais Train line), the room - confortable

Review 59:Breakfast was very basic. No cooked food. Limited options. No toast and no bread. No coffee/tea making facilities in the room. Even though hotel was nice but felt it was lacking character! Very quite.

Review 60:Very nice and decent hotel. Very nice rooms and nice view from the french balcony. Lovely decore and quality furniture. very clean and neat. Nice staff, spoke very little english. Brilliant housekeeping staff. Cleaned and changed sheets/towels every day. Hotel is very close to the beach, shops, cafes and restaurants.

Review 61:Swimming pool picture is misleading as it looks much smaller in reality.

Review 62:Strongly recommend this hotel for a budget stay, it is friendly family run place offering quality service and located close to the beach.

Review 63:No kettle fridge would have liked to make tea or at least keep beer cold

Review 64:Everything loved the Mama the cousin this hotel was a cross between a b& b And hotel

Review 65:The old gentleman in the reception was very grumpy and not very helpful with almost zero English.

Review 66:The hotel is comfortable, very clean witha beautiful garden.

Review 67:Beds could be a bit softer

Review 68:Great location in the older part of Estoril with underground parking. There are lots of local cafes and tiny bar nearby that give great value. Location was excellent for our purposes.

Review 69:Wifi did mostly not work. Bed was hard, like x-ray table.

Review 70:Staff, parking, breakfast were excellent. Rooms were ok. Proximity to sea promenade was good. Very friendly family operation.

Review 71:Closing the main door from 02:00 to 06:00. No option to get in between those hours.

Review 72:Everything. It's a very nice family hotel. Always clean and tidy. Very close to amenities and beach. Recommended

Review 73:There was a light over the mirror in our bathroom, but there was no way of switching it on. The two light switches outside the bathroom both operated only the ceiling light

Review 74:Breakfast included Good swimming pool Small garden but very well tended Very good Portguese restaurant only three minutes walk away with very reasonable prices. Our Portuguese friends collected us by car every day, but the Lisbon to Cascais railway is within easy walking distance, and we all walked to Cascais from the hotel one mornng, along the beach front.

Review 75:Hotel location was away from all amenities, tiring walk at each end of the day. Very hard Mattresses. Small pillow.

Review 76:Attractive appearance Cleanliness Helpful staff Pleasant gardens etc. Good buffet breakfast Quiet location Good size bedroom Hot water

Review 77:No complaints

Review 78:A 10 minute walk from the train station and a 5 minute walk to the beach. Beautiful hotel with wonderful landscaping, fountains and a pool. The rooms are comfortable, clean & bright with a nicely updated bathroom. Super friendly staff and a wonderful morning breakfast. A great place to stay just minutes from the beach.

Review 79:Wi-Fi signal was very weak, probably due to our room being too far from the wireless router. Also breakfast was quite basic and didn't change throughout the week - could've benefited from more variety.

Review 80:Very clean hotel, friendly staff, free underground parking. Biggest bonus - an excellent location, within walking distance from the seaside. Surprised that it's only a two-star hotel, definitely feels more expensive :-) All in all - very happy.

Review 81:If travelling by public transport, the hotel is not too easy to find and up a steep hill. No shops, cafes or bars (except one, packed with young people at weekend evenings) in the immediate vicinity.

Review 82:Lives up to its name: Smart. Small (single) room but more than adequate, everything in first rate repair and decor. Good breakfast. Helpful staff.

Review 83:Nothing

Review 84:The perfection of the hotel it's architecture it's lovely garden and pool . The surrounding roads of turn of the century houses . An altogether relaxing and very charming place to stay.

Review 85:We had a very late check in for our plane was significantly delayed when arrived in Lisbon - the staff did not have any problem to wait for and let us in. The staff are very hospitable and ready to help when needed! Great breakfast!

Review 86:Cleaning was not at the level I expected. Dust in the back of the toilet, in the bath window area nobody cleaned, the garbage bin looked rusty and dirty, there was dust on all electric switches.

Review 87:Wi-fi, room size and furniture, location.

Review 88:Sometimes staff didn't quite understand what we were saying but they did try very hard to understand and we even managed to get them to lend us a bucket for the ice bucket challenge after looking up the word in portugese! 2am curfew but it didn't bother us

Review 89:Small but cosy and clean rooms, powerful shower, small pool for a quick dip or lazy day, good food at breakfast to set you up for a day exploring lisbon/cascais/sintra which are all accessable by train a walking distance from hotel (train pass for three days 12Euro, travel pass for a day round lisbon town 6Euro), cascais is actually a nice walk along the beach from estoril you don't need to get the train. There are lots of restaurants along the beach or in estoril town and water sports and things to do. Wifi was fine for checking emails on your phones/googling places to eat out or how to get to somewhere. We were two couples on a budget summer holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and I would definitely recommend Hotel Smart.

Review 90:Beds were a bit hard for my liking and beware the 2am curfew......

Review 91:Very clean and well kept small family run hotel a short 5 minute walk from down town Estoril. Staff were all very friendly although their English was limited. Great for a budget traveller in a location that clearly attracts a lot of money.

Review 92:Noise carried, in the middle of the night the crying baby in another room sounded like it was right next to our bed.

Review 93:Light bright and airy room, spotlessly clean.

Review 94:Staff could have smiled a bit more and tried to be more friendly - they needed warming up! Breakfast basic Being hurried out of breakfast at 10am: I've always assumed that if breakfast is say 8am to 10am they stop serving at 10am but allow you time to eat - perhaps if this is not so they should make it clearer (we turned up at 9:50 were shoving food in our mouths to get out at 10 past 10) - we were pleased to note the next day at least 3 sets of people arrived about 9:50 when we were finishing up…. Mattress in our room was too hard (but that's just personal taste)….

Review 95:clean bright, excellent condition decor close to the beach (and close to a chinese restaurant) great parking under the house pool lovely

Review 96:Wifi was poor.

Review 97:This was our second stay in Hotel Smart and we will be back again. Facilities excellent. Nice and quite. Near the beach and train to Cascais and Lisbon. Great value for money.

Review 98:The hotel was just a lovely peaceful place to be. Everything was spotless and beautiful including the pool and garden. Very Portuguese. The family who run it were extremely helpful in a quiet friendly way. Short but slightly hilly walk to the promenade and beach where there is great swimming and which is preferable to the very over crowded Cascais. Breakfast good and plentiful. Would go back tomorrow and will certainly recommend it.

Review 99:Only thing that would be nice is some sun loungers but I understand space could be difficult.

Review 100:Wonderful small hotel, beautifully kept inside and out with a really good breakfast. A real find.

Review 101:No welcome from owner when booking in or on any other interactions.Feltquite awkward. No sense that he enjoys hosting guests which is a shame insuch a lovely property. Younger Family more approachable. No informationprovided about any events in area. We found out that Estoril Artisanfarye was in place 5 mins away by chance and were frustrated that it wasnot highlighted at 1 euro entry for other residents. I would stay again.Beautiful home.

Review 102:Hotel was spotless and very comfortable .Staff cleaned daily.

Review 103:Breakfast was a little boring. Coffee from machine was so so

Review 104:Location close enough to Estoril beach and centre. Cleanliness of rooms. Quiet(ish) location. Estoril is more relaxed than its neighbour Caiscais, and this is a plus for me.

Review 105:Location a bit out of the way in a suburban area, so few restaurants nearby, apart from the touristy ones by the sea. One exception is a super Chinese restaurant only 100 metres away, with very good food and reasonably priced good wine.

Review 106:Clean and very nicely decorated. We had a nice bedroom with small balcony, and nice small pool. Good breakfast. Best for travellers without children, so quiet. Good access to the sea front.

Review 107:breakfast could be better

Review 108:Very clean

Review 109:Some of the staff is rude and unprofessional.

Review 110:The hotel is on a cute, renovated old property, with a nice small garden.

Review 111:Very friendly and familiar staff. Beautiful small details and garden. Free breakfast and quiet area.

Review 112:Some of the staff. Hard beds. Small pool. A bit difficult to find.

Review 113:Some of the staff. Parking garage. Very clean.

Review 114:The staff are great.

Review 115:Wi-fi not great at the back rooms.

Review 116:Location,cleanliness,breakfast.

Review 117:do charme do local . da limpeza . do sossego . o custo x beneficio é imbativel .

Review 118:Very small TV and quite far away.

Review 119:Great location. Nice house converted into hotel. Really spacious room, as well as clean.

Review 120:The overall experince was great I will stay again.

Review 121:A real taste of Portugal, very traditional.

Review 122:Cleanest Hotel I've stayed. Buffet Breakfast was very good given the price

Review 123:the beds were very uncomfortable

Review 124:the pool, the garage, the breakfast, the location

Review 125:Beds a little hard

Review 126:Clean, friendly, attention to detail, very well kept property

Review 127:No sunbeds,no tea facilities in room.

Review 128:English speaking staff ; good location . Large room and very noce small hotel

Review 129:Wifi doesn't work sometime.

Review 130:Staff are good working.

Review 131:poor strength and not stable internet connection

Review 132:easy access to beach, small pool for afternoon relax

Review 133:No problems whatsoever.

Review 134:Spotlessly clean, very helpful staff who are always smiling.

The Fine Print

Please note that the hotel closes its doors during the night from 2 a.m. until 7 a.m.
