Reviews for Hotel Carlton

Review 1:The hotel seems relatively well insulated and soundproofed but at night the noise of a nearby cabaret kept me awake until 2 am (had a room on the back of the hotel, maybe ask for a room on the street with a balcony). A cleaning staff entered my room at 7.45 am, thus waking me up from my too short night. I triple checked but found no possibility to lock the room. Another staff came later in while i was showering. Very unpleasant to see the shadow of a person through the bathroom door when completely naked (especially as a woman). Had I slept better I probably wouldn't have minded the hair and the disposable razor cap in the bathtub, the lack of toilet paper, and the window that opened to an airless small patio overlooked by corridors with staff and clients passing by.

Review 2:- convenient location, good sfax restaurants next street - had a nice, modern room with huge bathroom - staff was friendly to me - good wifi connection everywhere

Review 3:Coming from airport and needed to rest. Hotel is in a great safe location, downtown. Took a leisurely walk on the street and window shopped, stopped in interesting bookstore, and picked up some water and juice before turning in. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 4:There is no iron available, and the laundry service only starts at 9am. It would be good if the hotel had an iron available, either in the room or just that you can phone to reception and they have one you can use. Especially for business travellers this is important.

Review 5:This is a very nice boutique hotel. It is well located and the rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. I like the small balcony, and the staff are very friendly.

Review 6:i book for two adults and one child, the room given to me doesn't include child bed, they promised me to give a bed by next day, But we got nothing. and the bed was too old with spring annoys us while sleeping, and the some of the staffs will help you only if you give commission not as their job, for all the price was too high for what they give and their service

Review 7:location, food and cleanliness

Review 8:Breakfast could be better and it would be great to have a safe in the room.

Review 9:Location is terrific, rooms are well appointed and staff are generally friendly.

Review 10:The hotel did have a no-smoking room but apparently only one per floor so I was surrounded by smoking including the hallways and the lobby and some of the guests would leave their doors open so they could go back and forth between room.

Review 11:The location was excellent. Most of the staff were very good. Room 106 was excellent (where I was moved to from room 307) If you're a smoker you won't have to buy cigarettes -just inhale. Many pretty good restaurants are close by.

Review 12:Not enough fresh fruits for breakfast.Orange juice with too much sugar in it (and very few oranges !).

Review 13:Very good location, at walking distance from the Medina, the tramway and buses for Bardo museeum.. Calm. Beds are confortable. Room and shower bath have an acceptable size.

Review 14:breakfast options were very limited unfortunately. i would have been happy to pay for better breakfast if it was available.

Review 15:Staff was very friendly throughout our weeklong stay - they were very helpful in directions and arranging for taxi services the hotel was spotlessly clean

Review 16:The sound of nose from a near by club is too high and that affects the statement of sound prof which is in the add. The wifi is too weak and some times no signal at all.

Review 17:The location is fine with access to shops , restaurants and public transport.

Review 18:worst place ever stayed. Had to sleep in the bathroom because we were put in a shared space with another couple! They lied about having parking - no parking! They lied about the other couple leaving. Refused to refund me and treated me like an idiot at 3am for complaining about the noise and other couple that had not left that we had to share a space with. Absolutely disgusting.

Review 19:nothing

Review 20:A bit cold at night. They should also allow people to work in the cafeteria space during the day, other ways the only options are the small lobby or the room

Review 21:No restaurant. Couple of bubbles light were missing - so poor light in the bathroom. Air-condition was too strong - so it was freezing when I got in the room. Acoustic was not the best, as I could hear every single person passing through the corridor. the room smelled cigarette.

Review 22:Shuttle service to the airport. Location in the city center.

Review 23:Breakfast is included, but there is no restaurant for lunch or dinner. Backside view on parking lot but for me it was no concern.

Review 24:Renovated, clean, comfortable spacious room, polite staff, quiet (double-glass window plus additional window block out noise), good Wifi.

Review 25:- I have been asked to pay in advance which is really unusual in hotel sectors. - The receptionist mistreated the porter very badly in front of the guests. - Security guard in the gate inspected my luggage very thoroughly which makes me upset.

Review 26:Location & Comfort

Review 27:noisy neighbours, could smell smoking even though its a non smoking hotel- not enough towels/ pillows for two people.

Review 28:Central, staff were nice, good views

Review 29:Need to take up some personal problems that encounter guest with local institutions.

Review 30:courtesy, breakfast, location.. Your picture of Tunsian revolution on the lift is expressive

Review 31:Some excellent staff who are let down by others who never smile, never say hello or good morning, and see you as an intrusion rather than someone who helps them keep their jobs.

Review 32:internet connection did not work. I had to go across the street or to internet cafe'. The hotel should notify customers that they are undergoing extensive noisy construction.

Review 33:Location and cleanliness

Review 34:Front entrance closed for repair, had to take long way out of building. AC too weak for heat. Fridge turns off when leave room. Decent drink options at breakfast, fod not so great. Hotel staff could not think of a place in town to find a beer. No dresser/clothes storage besides hangers.

Review 35:Right on main street.

Review 36:Yes, there was street noise, but that is part of having a room facing the street. The walls were well-insulated so the noise was a minor issue. The view more than made up for the noise.

Review 37:The location (I had a room with a balcony which had a great view of the avenue and the clock tower; also the hotel is in walking distance of Tunis' attractions), the breakfast buffet, and the staff (very helpful and friendly). The renovation was almost completed (I was told one week left) and I didn't feel inconvenienced by construction.

Review 38:Loo separate from bathroom. Confusing in the middle of the night!

Review 39:Tastefully updated, superb location, good restaurants and bars within two minutes walk.

Review 40:Nothing like a bar or lobby where you could meet other travelers. Breakfast not awesome but decent enough for Tunis right now (I had much worse in a ***** resort on the same trip). Lack of safe in the room.

Review 41:Felt like a safe hotel, great location, friendly and helpful staff

Review 42:The elevator didn't work downward, so we had to take the stairs, but I think it's a matter of time since it's a new one and the hotel is being renovated. Also there was no shampoo in the room, only shower gel, and I had to check out at 6AM so I didn't have time to order one.

Review 43:The hotel is being revonated, so all rooms are new and clean. Rooms are also spacious compared to other hotels with Single Rooms having a twin bed. The location is the great as well, right on the main Avenue in Downtown Tunis.

Review 44:Hotel undergoing renovation estimated completion July. Main problem is noise from adjacent club/restaurant which holds events typically from 1 to 3 am and noise is transmitted though the hotel. Management has made representations to stop disturbance to no avail. Avoid rooms facing the main street. I lost 2 nights sleep from this issue.

Review 45:Location on Ave Habib Bourguiba. Walking distance to metro (streetcar) and Gare de Tunis.

Review 46:There was no A/C working. Although the weather was hot they did not put on the air conditioning. They also answered us very rudely saying we should wear lighter clothes خففوا من ملابسكم. Which is unsaid to any lady by a man let alone Arab ladies. There was no fridge in the room. I do not see my self staying there again.

Review 47:location - clean

Review 48:bad view from the windows , you have to go back early to the hotel since the place is not that much class in alhabib burgeba , the first intrance to the reception is horrible

Review 49:the room is good

Review 50:I tried paying with euro and the reception insisted I had to pay with the local currency so I had to go withdraw money again.

Review 51:Location is great. Breakfast was good.

Review 52:still under refurbishment, which will be a plus in the future

Review 53:it is right downtown at the heart of Av. Habib Bergabuya fair breakfast included second time I stay at this hotel

Review 54:The entrance hall and reception are narrow, the check-in was somewhat chaotic.

Review 55:The room was very good and quiet, the buffet breakfast had a fairly good selection. The price is very reasonable. Excellent situation right in the centre of town.

Review 56:Nothing really. A closable shower cabin would be more useful though.

Review 57:Everything is good. Especially location of the Hotel. It is a hotel that you can hardly find an equivalent for this price in the region.

Review 58:Construction/renovations going on during my stay, which was only mildly inconvenient

Review 59:Great location on main strip of Tunis. Very close to shops & restaurants. Within easy walk to train station. Close to medina.

Review 60:Wifi signal not the strongest Renovation taking place(but progressing) Tight parking by entance!

Review 61:Value for money(or actually cheap) Better than some 4 star hotels in Europe Friendly staff Location best in the city Parking available(very rare for this area)

Review 62:The new furniture is rather cheap, and the matresses could be more comfortable. The breakfast buffet is limited to eggs, bread, yogurt and lots of different vegies, so if you are avegan, congratulations! They also offer urn coffee and tea, if you request anything extra, like fresh squeezed orange juice or expresso, you will be charged extra. And here's my only unpleasant experience at that hotel: upon departure I was charged for extras I had not ordered or consumed. Mind you, a triffle money wise, but their insistence, in my face, that I had taken something I had not really irked me. Two great days ruined by a 50 cent charge? Beware.

Review 63:Let's understand first of all that this property is under renovation and ranked as a three star. Great location, on the Habib Bourguiba avenue. Their staff for the most part were friendly and accomodating. The renovation noises, so ubiquotous during the day, ceased in the evening. The newly refurbished rooms are clean and spacious.wiFi coverage was for the most part, adequate.

Review 64:Nothing at all.

Review 65:Carlton Hotel looked very neat. everything i saw about them during my booking was real during my stay. I got value for my money. there was no regret.

Review 66:Breakfast a little weak, sausage not best quality, tiny eggs, jam poor quality, but overall fair enough. At night fire alarm went on 3 times obviously for no reason! Tiny reception and lobby!

Review 67:Very central hotel, 10 mns to qasbah, souk, medina and Porte de France. Just opposite Ministry of Interior. Cafes in the vicinities. Friendly and helping staff.

Review 68:Noisy. Loud music from nearby until 4am. Then at 7.30am construction workers began with Kango hammers, drills and hammers. I got very little sleep. There was no advance notice of building work in the hotel when I was booking.

Review 69:Great location. Friendly staff. Lovely buffet breakfast. Clean rooms.

Review 70:Pity no lounge sitting area. One felt confined to room. During the night awaken by thumping if disco music. Could not find out where it came from. Not from Hotel. Heard no traffic noises.

Review 71:I liked my room with balcony overlooking main Ave Habibi Bougihba on 2 new floor. Access to lift. Flat screen Tv and Wifi. The staff very friendly. Breakfast good buffet selection. Central position with many cafes etc close by.

Review 72:Perhaps consider to provide electric kettle in the room for convenience.

Review 73:The hotel's very clean and location was great - very close to eateries, convenience stores, the medina.

Review 74:The rest was terrible.. There was a construction just one floor down to our room, and we could not sleep well because of the extreme noise! And it was Sunday! Very poor breakfast, very poor wireless connection and very poor cleaning... You have to ask to the reception if you want "housekeeper" to clean your room, to change the towels and the linens...

Review 75:Only the thing that I can say "it was good" is the location.

Review 76:The access was problematic due to a political rally and the hotel had no preparation for that. The rooms are not insulated, you can hear all the noise coming from the street or from inside. Impossible to get a good sleep. The wifi signal is weak. No fridge in the room just bare minimum. Poor finishing of the recent renovation.

Review 77:Location very central, cleaning staff & reception staff are friendly, helpful.

Review 78:some inconveniences because of renovation room cleaning very slow and skmetimes you wait the evening

Review 79:rooms latest standard had nice balcony over the avenue breakfastbuffet a lot of coffes in front of hotel

Review 80:the hotel is currently under refurbishing and I had to go through a "work on progress" area to access my room. weird the staff wasn't always kind

Review 81:position certainly good

Review 82:The renovations were confusing to get around from the lobby to my room. I think the breakfast should include an expresso machine for guests at their discretion. Missed having crepes.

Review 83:The location on Bourguiba avenue was excellent with access to the Medina and the TMG. The staff were helpful for directions and explanations of currency, restaurants, etc.

Review 84:Strangers walking in to the hotel drunk then following you around out side not nice when you have little children it can be bit worrying all taxi drivers are very rude in tunisia...

Review 85:Close to airport that's all..

Review 86:Staff was helpful and very friendly. Good command of english. The rooms were spare but neat and clean. the breakfast buffet had a lot of options. A very good experience.

Review 87:Bed was just a couch, too hard and not flat for sleeping, something which should not happen in this price range. Breakfast is poor, too vegeterian. Wifi connection was very weak in the room.

Review 88:Location was in the struct center, private undergeound garage, clean hotel, nice air conditioning, quiet.

Review 89:Could be annoying if there is an overnight party on the small street below.

Review 90:Within walking distances are major public transportation hubs: TGM, train, and Metro. On the Main street full of cafés, tea houses, and restaurants.

Review 91:Wi-Fi was not good all the time, entrance to the underground parking (4EUR/day) is narrow for not small cars, shower is not completely closed - so water goes out of shower cabin. The personal - although in general good, there was an angry person in the dining room. Also, when effecting payment for the nights, change money were given less and after double checking the receptionist admitted the error.

Review 92:Good location, parking, quite various breakfast, quiet rooms and -reasonable price..

Review 93:didnt stay there because they told me and my finace we not married so we was refuced maybe in futire you should tell the hotel to let you know of there rule of stay for non married coupled tooks 4 hr drive in tunisa to get there and was refuced ti=he 2 nights stay i tild reception to cancl my 2 days booking i hope i not been charged for this

Review 94:For Tunisian strandards this hotel should be 5 stars - excellent mattress, excellemt shower, eclennt breakfast - you can walk to the medina and there is a supermarket MONOPRIX on the block behind the hotel - perfect!

Review 95:Beds were hard. Wi-Fi was a little spotty. Stayed twice during trip. First room (on 1st floor) had excellent Wi-Fi reception. Second room (on 4th floor) did not.

Review 96:Friendly, helpful staff. Rooms are very quiet and clean (guest soap smelled wonderful!). Nice breakfast selection. Excellent location for touring Tunis. Close to many restaurants and close to all public transportation.

Review 97:Only that my room didn't have any view ,,, maybe other rooms were better

Review 98:The hotel location is great Rooms are clean and tidy Staff are friendly and helpful Breakfast was good enough

Review 99:Smell of smoke Same breakfast everyday

Review 100:Professional & friendly staff, Clean rooms, good location right on the Main Street, cafés, Resturants, Banks are just next to the hotel, good signal of WiFi

Review 101:The breakfast is very poor for this Kind of hotel. No enough fruits, cheese and other fresh products. The dont acept other caras than visa, keep that in mind!

Review 102:Location , services and wifi. Cleaning ladies are really nice and professional. It is extremely proper.

Review 103:The price is high, the rooms so small and there is arabic club under the hotel thats mean u will have problems in sleeping

Review 104:The only good thing about it Is the location

Review 105:Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel continues its renovation and gets better with each visit Good value for money Excellent location in the centre of Tunis and only ten minutes from the old town

Review 106:Uncomfortable bed. Underpowered air conditioning.

Review 107:Ideal location right on the main street. Professional and friendly staff. Decent breakfast included. Reliable accommodations. Good price.

Review 108:Nothing in particular but I preferred the old layout of the breakfast room to this year's. Fruit not always available at breakfast.

Review 109:A comfortable room with excellent bathroom facilities. Great location - easy to get to from the airport and the train station.

Review 110:That I couldn't stay longer.

Review 111:- friendly staff - chic and renovated rooms - delicious breakfast buffet - wifi that works throughout the entire hotel - location - accommodating manager - price

Review 112:Modern shower, however, partially enclosed so that water collected on the bathroom floor.

Review 113:Friendly and welcoming staff, cleanliness of room, mini-refrigerator, terrace, garage, great central location,

Review 114:Shower need curtain.

Review 115:See what I don't

Review 116:Sonia (at the reception) was helpful

Review 117:Over priced, no much variety in the breakfast.

Review 118:Excellent location, helpful staff, Clean, free and fast internet.

Review 119:Nothing

Review 120:Amazing location and helpful staff, the rooms were clean and really nice

Review 121:Bathroom was dirty

Review 122:Location

Review 123:The staff so unkind My friend can't stay with me even he couldn't put some stuff with me

Review 124:Only the location

Review 125:Poverty all around is increasing

Review 126:Central location and safety, renovated hotel

Review 129:Simple. Clean and helpful

Review 130:I asked for a room on the Bourguiba avenue, but I did not get it :(

Review 131:Excellent location in the middle of Tunis. Newly renovated hotel.

Review 132:the noise level was terrible. the street noise was part of it but the loud music was the worst

Review 133:new room design was nice

Review 134:Twin beds instead of double bed, recent smoker in the room

Review 135:Rooms are not as quit as one can think.
