Reviews for Hotel Sol e Serra

Review 1:The only small problem was that the room was not as warm as we would like. We were given a heater for the night and moved to a warmer and better room the following morning.

Review 2:Nice building with everything functioning - beautiful wide view - good breakfast and friendly and eficiente staff.

Review 3:We didnt dislike anything although rooms are rather dated.

Review 4:Excellent value for the money. Overlooks park and mountains. Staff always friendly and helpful. Meal in a the restaurant was also excellent value for money served by a very pleasant young woman.

Review 5:Bathroom needs updating. Breakfast was below standard. Not a nice atmosphere in the dining room, it looks like they got stuck in the 70s. No WiFi in the bedroom, only in the Reception area. Don't accept Credit Cards, only cash.

Review 6:Location and view

Review 7:A pity about the childrens pool which looked really murky! and life buoys looked very worn.

Review 8:Wonderful view from bedroom balcony, large bedroom, clean pool for adults and nice terrace area. Excellent value for money.

Review 9:We needed a simple overnight stop for a trip from the Algarve to the Douro so price was the main consideration. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel and location for what we paid. Location is close to centre of town. Room was large and comfortable. Staff were very helpful. Dinner was fine and good value and breakfast had a very good selection. I've paid twice the price at other hotels and had half the value. Hope to return with more time to spend in the area.

Review 10:WiFi in the rooms was weak, although to be fair it is advertised as only being available in public areas. The parking area is not restricted to hotel guests.

Review 11:Friendly staff, very good buffet breakfast, excellent location (especially for visiting Marvão, Crato and the Roman town of Ammaia) and reasonable for visiting Cáceres and Mérida in Spain.

Review 12:Especially people staying for some more days need to be prepared for having to pay cash due to a non functioning credit card machine. Internet is only avilable in the lobby and the bar.

Review 13:The location of the hotel is great for visiting the nice town. The hotel in general is decent. The bar is a nice place to sit and surf the web. Breakfast is nicely arranged even though it provides just the standard breakfast.

Review 14:Like the headline says, my personal experience with this hotel was awful. Arguably, the worst hotel I've ever used. The room had a nauseous smell that could not be suppressed even after having all windows open for a couple of hours. Once closed, the smell would come back to you after a short while. I managed to find its source. The blackout curtains which had a rubber backing were decomposing or aging (the hotel is old and it seems they were never changed since then), the effect being intensified due to the intense direct sun light of summer sunny days. The best I can think of to describe that unbearable smell is like having a pile of old tires decaying on a stuffy room. After a night sleep you invariably wake up with a blocked nose. Moreover, the whole wing smelled alike when entering the access corridors which confirmed it being a generalized problem. Asking for a new room on a fully booked hotel would be a lost cause.Other downsides of the hotel:- Most basic furniture one could think of, certainly not on pair with a 3* hotel. Seemed like obtained from a flea market.- Poor breakfast with little to no choices. Marginal quality on most products- Small pool and dirty water on the kids pool. Even my small child said that she didn't want to use the pool anymore after her first use.- So-called private parking was a complete joke since anybody had access to it. No control whatsoever. Finding available places from late afternoon was very difficult since guests from other hotels or even the general public would use it at will (the main reason I choosed this hotel over others was due to its alleged private parking. I felt ripped off almost upon arrival) - Slow and unstable WiFi (only available at the hotel reception)- Not possible to pay by debit card or any electronic means. Just cash. Unthinkable nowadays!

Review 15:I've booked this hotel as a 3 days stop over on the way back from our main vacations on the south, to explore the region of North Alentejo which was unknown to me. However, what should have been the perfect ending to our holidays ended being an awful experience. I was literally counting the days to get out of that unbearable place. See the "dislike section" for explanations. It's really a shame that such wonderful region of Alentejo be so misrepresented. - Estadia horrível - Era para ser um final de férias feliz numa região encantadora, após umas férias mais a sul, mas acabou por se tornar uma experiência para esquecer.

Review 16:Poor breakfast. Dull interior. Could not pay with credit card. Pool area was dirty.

Review 17:Good sized rooms. Good location in the town. Good value for money if you can stand the faults.

Review 18:Payment with creditcards still not possible and wi-fi not available in rooms

Review 19:The breakfast was very poor.

Review 20:The location and view from our balcony was stunning.

Review 21:Wifi solo in reception

Review 22:Vicino al centro

Review 23:Bed terrible Breakfast bread old, coffee and milk cold, ran out of sausage a 9am fake orange juice overall terrible

Review 24:Missing a garage to park vehicles

Review 25:WC : velho e a exigir remodelação urgente.

Review 26:Mobília típica do alentejo nos quartos. Localização

Review 27:No wifi on the bed rooms and tv is too old

Review 28:Excelent place.. Pool, the staff, the location, the price

Review 29:Could not accept payment by credit card, which could have caused difficulties, and the bill was incorrectly calculated (in favour of the hotel) by a significant amount.

Review 30:Good evening meal in the restaurant, but the house red wine was expensive for what it was.

Review 31:Although the booking.com page for this hotel states that it accepts payment using credit cards, we had to pay in cash because the hotel said that the system was "out of order" during our entire stay. The WC had a bad smell.

Review 32:The location is nice.

Review 33:It would be good to have WiFi in the rooms.

Review 34:The location was great and the hotel had everything we would expect from a 3 star hotel and more. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a room with a terrace near the pool and lovely view so that made all the difference.

Review 35:The terrace near the restaurant was not very clean. The paint fell from the chairs and some of them were covered with bird poo.

Review 36:Our room was on teh first floor; we could walk straight from our little terrace to the swimming pool.

Review 37:Credit card machine was broke when we checked in and still wasn't repaired after 2 days when we checked out. There was no air conditioning in May and we had to leave our balcony door open to get some cool air in. Wifi was weak except in the lobby.

Review 38:The employees (reception and dining) were friendly, helpful, polite and did everything to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. Breakfast was adequate. The room was comfortable and warmly decorated but needs some updating and repair work.

Review 39:The toilet smells too much. Not properly cleaned or problems with pipes. The impression is that it was a upper class hotel in the past but renovation and maintainance are in stand by since long time ago.annoying that payment must be cash

Review 40:Location. Big hotel with space and nice terrace bar.

Review 41:bar not open restaurant not open staff incompetent English virtually non-existent to be told on departure at 6.45 am that credit card machine not working and we would have to find an ATM with a flight to catch from Lisbon not good

Review 42:room hotel location fine

Review 43:Happy with it all really!

Review 44:A very agreeable Hotel in the heart of Castelo de Vile. My room was clean, nicely furnished in classic portugues style. A very good continental breakfast and free wifi in the lounge area. Couldn't fault it and would stay again. They have excellent room rate deals, well worth it.

Review 45:Nothing

Review 46:Hotel was right near the center of town and very accessible. Room was comfortable. Very good breakfast buffet with lots of food options. Excellent value.

Review 47:The room was cold when we arrived. But turning on the heater solved the problem after a while.

Review 48:Even though the hotel is rather old, it is kept in good condition none the same. The breakfast is good and plentifull.

Review 49:Luke warm water in the shower- noisy aircon unit.

Review 50:Central location easy parking, Good size room in a traditional Portuguese style, Just about managed to get wifi in our room probably as we were close to reception. Good choice of breakfast selection.

Review 51:The water pressure could be improved (even if I stayed at the 3º floor). Some cottage cheese at breakfast would be a nice plus.

Review 52:Almost everything given the hotel standard and price. I highlight the quality of the staff and the beautiful and traditional 'Alentejana' furniture.

Review 53:Staff could not have been more helpfull, easy -short walk to the town and sights, good Restaurant for dinner and generous buffet for breakfast. Recommended !

Review 54:The first night our air conditioner didn't work & when I asked the front girl, she said all the rooms were hot.It was 105 . I asked to change rooms & was told it wouldn't make any difference. She was wrong. The cool air was blowing outside & the hot air return was coming into our room.

Review 55:The staff were very nice & friendly. On our second day we changed rooms & the air conditioner worked & then we were very happy.

Review 56:I can't blame the hotel because I think the problem is the internetin rural Portugal, but: 1. They advertised free wifi, and it neverworked the entire time we were there. 2. They weren't able toprocess a credit card payment. However, just as we were leaving, theywere able to eke out a connection to pay by credit card.

Review 57:Gorgeous castle town in Portugal. The hotel is within walking distanceof everything.

Review 58:Having to leave. We wished we booked 2 nights and travelled over to Marvao for a day visit instead of also staying at Marvao.

Review 59:Friendliness Breakfast Swimming pool Comfort Helpful assistance

Review 60:There was some mix-up with our booking that was the hotel's fault. Finally we obtained a room with less beds than we expected (at the same price). This situation could have been handled in a better way.

Review 61:Castelo de Vide is a nice town, the hotel well situated, the hotel has the charm of a once fashinionable place.

Review 62:- room from the 70's - twin room - dirty carpet in the room - breakfast should be better at a 3* hotel

Review 63:- Nice view from the balconies - interesting interieur

Review 64:Didn't accept our Visa card as thet stated system was down. We have our doubts even though we rec'd a message to the contrary from Booking.com representative.

Review 65:It's necessary to be sure about the room you rent because they have rooms with worst conditions for smaller prices. This you can't visualize on booking.com

Review 66:Breakfast and price.

Review 67:The bathroom was not cleaned properly and the bath drain was partly blocked. The restaurant only had two dishes on offer - salmon and cod. The salmon was OK but the cod was actually egg and potatoes with very little, if any, cod as one couldn't taste it.

Review 68:The position

Review 69:We asked for a double bed, but they put two single beds together :( Theroom was smelly :(:(

Review 70:Excellent location! Buffet breakfast. Folklore decorations, but dependson person can also be a minus.

Review 71:Great location. Clean. And I just love castele de vide. It is in an excellent location and very cheap for a hotel. The breakfast was decent too.

Review 72:No complaints .

Review 73:Lovely room with a view of the Mtns Able to park car right out front .Handy to walk into town centre

Review 74:One wing slightly run-down

Review 83:The location is good.

Review 84:THe staff were great. The swimming pool was a bonus. The location was ideal and free parking was very useful.

Review 85:Actually everything was fine. The bathroom should be renewed a little bit.

Review 86:The location and the mood of the hotel were fascinating. Nice breakfast.

Review 87:Lovely view over the park and the folk art on the furniture. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 88:A great location, offering super value for money

Review 89:It was quite close to the centre of the village separated only by a beautiful shaded park. The rooms were comfortable but not luxurious.

Review 90:A little in need of up-grade Just a little tired

Review 91:Location Design, Food-fair, British Rail Art posters

Review 92:Room a little dated.

Review 93:Very good value, comfortable rooms, quiet location.
