Reviews for Freycinet Lodge

Review 1:Dirty cups in the kitchen cupboard. Head waiter didn't honour our 8.30 dinner reservation arranged by reception and only seated us at 9.05pm after we enquired about our table again. Would have expected resort to know walking tracks were closed and advise guests accordingly as it is a 2.5km walk from the resort to the start of the walking tracks.

Review 2:Location. Food in the restaurant and waiter who served us were excellent.

Review 3:We were very underwhelmed by Fryecinet lodge. The room was spacious but quite dated, as was the main lodge. Although the breakfast was included, it was very average food. We had dinner in the bistro one night and the food wasn't great. Location is pretty but I would definitely recommend having a car because it is a fair distance to everything. The staff were nice but not overly helpful when it came to giving advice on what to do. Also we were told that we needed to spend $60 on a 'parks pass', not only to park in the national park but also to park in the carpark of the lodge! Would have been nice to know this prior to travelling there.

Review 4:Easy walk to a nice beach.

Review 5:Greeted by beautiful staff who definitely knew what they were doing and bottle of champagne for our recent marriage. ALWAYS happy to assist. Rooms very clean, generous portions of coffee, tea hot chocolate etc. Location stunning. Restaurant menu perfect. Would definitely visit again. One of our best stays in Tasmania as a newly wedded couple.

Review 6:Great location- Just before the walking area. Very friendly staff. Especially Cederic who looked after for the two days at reception. Matt our waiter was also great. Great views from the dinner area. Dinner was lovely. The lodges were lovely. Clean and luxurious.

Review 7:Accommodation was very comfortable. We stayed in No 10 which faced the lake, although the view is blocked by the trees! Restaurant food very good, service was excellent, all staff are very friendly and pleasant. We had a lovely few days, would definitely return.

Review 8:We had been driving for a long time (3 hours) and when we arrived, there was a very bad welcome from the girl named Charlie, who was incredibly rude and impolite. Very disappointing for the hotel of such a price level.

Review 9:Lovely staff at the restaurant, thank you James for "accepting" us lately:) Freycinet national park is close by.

Review 10:Was disappointed after being made to believe that every room had a view....this did not mean a view of the Bay. Rooms were outdated and the bistro was particularly bad (2 hours from order to receiving our meals).

Review 11:Near Coles Bay so nice to be so nearby to the beach.

Review 12:Accommodation was way over priced for what it was. Our villa had no air conditioning and a shared two bathroom for a family of four and NO bath tub in the bathroom. I was certainly expecting more for $536.00 per night!.

Review 13:National Park was beautiful, lovely scenery

Review 14:The communal areas had a wonderful view over the bay and contrasted with the lodges tucked away among the trees. The staff were very professional and welcoming. Dinner at the restaurant was very special.

Review 15:Spa had a jet missing (forgot. To mention ). Grout mouldy lookingin the bathroom, some staff in the bistro clearly didn't want to be there. Only one red and white wine glass in cabin

Review 16:Bed and pillows. All the clearly overseas staff were excellent.

Review 17:Food was not up to the standard it should have been. Buffet breakfast was a disappointment...no variation during 4 day stay. Lobster portions were small for the price. Much dust under our bed, cobwebs & spiders.

Review 18:Staff were very friendly & helpful. Stunning view from our room.

Review 19:Little sign of good or any management - it seems the staff are pretty much left to do their best which on occasions in both the restaurant and bistro was nowhere near good enough. We regarded it as significant that we we were not asked on check out whether we had enjoyed our stay - not a sign of a business that are confident in the quality of their product. Overall pretty disappointing for the cost.

Review 20:Nice cabins but relatively few have views.

Review 21:The location was lovely being situated in the park. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our cabin was tidy and comfortable with a lovely balcony.

Review 22:Internet connection erratic Breakfast not at expected level Limited Seaview from the view ( different from website promise) No clarity about the park entrance fee

Review 23:Remoteness ( if you are fan) Close to nature and park access Clean bungalow Near a nice beach

Review 24:The hotel is getting old. It is way over-priced. The windows were dirty. The flyscreen has probably never been cleaned. The shower curtain had a filthy bottom edge. The toilet seat was loose. The light switches were dirty. The settee was old and stained. The bed was a double and not a super King size. The whole was a take, a rip-off. Unfortunately, there is no reasonable alternative accommodation in the area or we would have left.

Review 25:The view over Coles Bay

Review 26:Few cobwebs about and light mould like stains on back of curtains

Review 27:Very helpful friendly staff, room made up and extras like music left on and mood lighting very nice to come back to

Review 28:The experience back to the forest

Review 29:The inner part of the forest . The drive to the destination is adventurous, mind blowing experience . Very creative thinking of lodge

Review 30:Staff friendly and obliging. Rooms very spacious, clean and beds etc all good. Restaurants good catering for both bistro and fine dining. Which is a problem in tassie at some towns resorts as the prices for dining is over the top.

Review 31:NA.

Review 32:The scenery was great. The room's heating facilities kept us warm and cozy. It was very thoughtful to provide us with a complimentary wine for celebrating our marriage.

Review 33:Location was great. Very disappointed with accommodation, considering the rates! We were two couples, myself and my husband travelling with parents / in-laws and the two bedroom villa was not appropriate. It was really a family room for a couple and their kids, NOT for two couples. Also the room was not equipped for four adults. Towels and crockery were insufficient. Also there were no dishwashing items provided. We had to bring kitchenware back from the bar. Despite requesting towels, they were not received! Not keen to recommend this resort!

Review 34:Location was great

Review 35:Disappointed the lodge was so enclosed by the bush. No view at all from the veranda but thick bush all around us and very close!

Review 36:Lodge itself was very clean and completely fit for purpose.

Review 37:The night t i stayed, it was unpleasantly hot because i could not switch on the creaking noisy ceiling fan that needs lubricating or replacement.

Review 38:the coastal scenery

Review 39:That we only stayed for one night!

Review 40:Beautiful cabins set amid serene beach/bush landscape. Cafe & bistro are well priced and offer a delicious selection of local fare. Quiet location.

Review 41:We only had a short stay, but will be returning on our next tas trip, special mention to staff at counter, very warm and helpfull, makes such a difference between stays, and the restaurant was also very good, we also had a very good breakfast there! Susan & Carl of Brisbane.

Review 42:Front reception seemed inexperienced and not very helpful. Cleanliness is a bit lacking - stray hairs in bathroom and mould in shower.

Review 43:Location was excellent with fantastic views and easy access to walks. The lodge facilities were good. The rooms were big.

Review 44:Despite brochure pics, not many suites have bay views - most look onto bush. Despite Eco positioning - room servicing leave lights switched on & music system playing.

Review 45:Great spot to use as a base for exploring freycinet.

Review 46:Reception was somewhat formal for the casual, cabin style accommodation. The cost is above anything we have ever paid before - I can't imagine many families being able to afford this?? Glad we went, but I would be inclined to camp next time - it's a budget consideration for us. Had I known I could have got an NRMA discount, I would have booked via your website rather than via booking.com. I didn't like the bulk of the fridge being stocked with over priced mini-bar items. We self-catered to reduce the costs.

Review 47:Location and lodge were wonderful, as was the breakfast buffet, and the quality of fittings in rooms and cleanliness. I like the fact that it is owned by the RACT. Staff at the buffet were very friendly and attentive.

Review 48:The location of this property is inside the national park. We had a great family dinner in the hotel restaurant where we had a view of sunset as well.

Review 49:Wasn't too keen on the Bistro, the food was average and the tables were awful. Hard to get a table at the restaurant, they may not take more booking even if there are free tables if they thing they have enough people (missed a dinner for my birthday)

Review 50:Great location within the park with easy access to all the walks. Right next to a beautiful beach. The cabins were very nice and comfortable. The restaurant is good and with beautiful views.

Review 51:Restaurant was disappointing - premium rates charged for very average food the night we ate there. Didn't get a second chance as a result.

Review 52:Location awesome! Views from room excellent. Quality of room excellent.

Review 53:Spacious cabin with comfortable king size bed. Enjoyed dinner in restaurant especially the seafood curry. Spectacular views from the dining room and deck. Staff are friendly and professional. Had a lovely two night stay. The walk to Wineglass bay is a must do.

Review 54:The notion of paying 24 dollars to wander in the countryside is slightly alien to visitors from the UK where we have thousands of miles of free country walks

Review 55:This was a marvellous location to walk in the national park to the much acclaimed Wineglass bay. This walk ideally requires a 2 night stay. The hotel is maximising on its position in its price.

Review 56:I booked thru Booking.com and "breakfast included" rate ...buttold on arrival it was only Continental B'fast, where as fellowtravellers booked thru ract received full b'fast for same bookingcost ?? Breakfast coffee ..weak and runny ..no proper coffee, barista ornespresso style machine available. Come on ..Aussie love a good coffee.

Review 57:Room was well appointed and comfortable. Evening Restaurant meal wasgood.

Review 58:We were disappointed to have to queue whilst waiting to book in,there were 4-5 separate groups of guests waiting, one staff member was on a break, the staff member said that's o.k.We thought otherwise!!The seafood bake was $42 and we felt we did not get that value of seafood in amongst the potato bake.

Review 59:Beautiful location, comfortable, clean cabin, loved the lodge, dining room views.Dinner was very good, table waiters were professional and good humoured.

Review 60:Making the booking through booking.com. tried to book a 2-bedroom cabin for 4 Adults, and got 2 2-bedroom cabins.luxury in

Review 61:Location in National Park. Buffet breakfast included.

Review 62:We stayed in a spa cabin and it was just perfect. Tonnes of room, a balcony looking out to a spectacular view over the bay, biggest bathroom I've seen in a hotel room, a spa next to the window and it all felt very private even though there were cabins either side of us. Everything had been thought of and even things you don't normally have provided like Umbrellas, sound dock and CD, bathroom products galore. For the price it felt very special. The buffet breakfast was fine - the usual fare. Service in the restaurants and bars was very prompt and professional. Loved it!

Review 63:Beautiful location in the national park. Even though it was busy the cabins are set apart so you feel like there is no one around! The restaurant was lovely and the seafood platter was fantastic

Review 64:Having to pay extra to enter the park for accommodation in addition to $299 per night. After being told we couldn't go to dinner at 8 pm because they were fully booked. Not even 8.15. When we arrived it. Was empty bar 5 other couple s. Found th e atmosphere lacking, rude staff, and just ok food.

Review 65:The view

Review 66:The listing for this place is VERY misleading. "Fraud" is the word that comes to mind. They say they offer wi-fi in the rooms, but they do not. If you have important business on the internet, you will have to do it at the bar! Also, the couch and the carpet in the room were in serious need of cleaning. For $300 a night, this place is a rip-off.

Review 67:Terrific views.

Review 68:It's a bit pricey - but then, you get what you pay for.

Review 69:Location and scenery. Facilities and activities. Food and wine. Lodge-style general eating area and bar. Clean, simple, very comfportable rooms.

Review 70:Freycinet is the jewel in the Tasmanian crown and this is the best place to stay. Great room with beach access, superb dinner in the restaurant and access to all of the National Park treasures. A must do.

Review 71:Rooms are very expensive and only include continental breakfast; costs an extra $10 per person to "upgrade" to a full breakfast. None of the rooms have views; all are surrounded by dense bush. Richardsons Bistro closing time are inconsistently advertised as 7:30pm, 8:00pm and 9:00pm at different places in the resort. Mussels are featured on the bistro menu but the staff told us that they weren't available; when pressed they admitted that they hadn't had mussels for three months! Need to purchase National Park pass to park your car there ($24 per day).

Review 72:Very convenient to the Freycinet National park, also has great views

Review 73:Limited room view of bay. No internal phone to reception. Large flies found in the room. Unstable Internet reception. Ordinary breakfast with diluted coffee.

Review 74:Scenic and tranquil location and good amenities. Very comfortable bed.

Review 75:Quite expensive.

Review 76:Excellent location in the National park. Great walks. Fantastic scenery. Nice touches like the quality toiletries and complimentary cheese platter on arrival. Large, comfortable cabin. Friendly staff. Excellent food in the restaurant and bistro.

Review 77:main restaurant was bloody terrible. Food very average, the service poor, two fish options were not available, extremely expensive for what you get. restaurant ambiance is poor relative to the cost to stay there. It was like a pub environment. Breakfast was poor. They need to benchmark Cradle Mountain Lodge which is just fantastic and very isolated.

Review 78:location was great, views terrific, just a lovely area.

Review 79:Was counting on WiFi (in room). No service (phone or wifi in room), with limited service in lounge. Able to hotspot mobile phone from lounge. If you need to work while away, be aware there may be a comms problem, but this is a remote area and NBN is apparently coming soon. Restaurant a little pricey, on top of pricey accom. We offset by staying in a room with cooking facilities.

Review 80:Location - superb Freycinet; typical wonderful Tassie wild, preserved, nature View from main dining room verandah incredible. Responsiveness of staff (esp Jo) to problem above- discussed and taken on board.

Review 81:Bistro food disappointing- honey pumpkin soup was so spicy that we couldn't eat it. Hot breakfast not included in standard package which is unusual for accommodation of this standard and price.

Review 82:Cabins were well appointed and great location. Main dining room food was of a high standard. Service staff were professional and engaging in all areas.

Review 83:No muesli was served at breakfast except mixed with yoghurt. - but lots of delicious things to choose from. Coffee from machine a little weak, but you could order an expresso for an extra cost.

Review 84:The delux spa cabin with king bed was very comfortable. Quiet around the cabins, you did not hear the neighbours. Scallops at dinner in the restaurant were spectacular!

Review 85:Restaurant food wasn't that great at the lodge. Bathroom could of been a little cleaner.

Review 86:Great location. The waiter at the lodge restaurant was only new I think his name was Matt, he was fantastic! Super attentive

Review 87:Lumpy bed; dusty bedside table; very small but adequate kitchen

Review 88:Close proximity to National Park walking tracks and beaches made getting to know Freycinet easy. We loved seeing wallabies near our cabin and the yellow-tailed black cockatoos were delightful. We enjoyed the interesting menu at Lodge restaurant.

Review 89:Requested a 2 bed cabin, had 1 bedroom and another bed set up in the living room.

Review 90:Beautiful location, staff were so helpful, food was great. Expensive, but worth it

Review 91:Very poor customer service at reception, offering limited knowledge of the walks. Very little atmosphere in hotel

Review 92:Good location to the park and nice views

Review 93:Except for breakfast, don't eat at the restaurant! The chef and the manager don't have the faintest idea what a seafood chowder is and the steak was so tough I could not eat it at all! In all my many years of world travel, I did something I have never before done in my life - the whole meal experience was just the worst ever and I refused to pay for it and apart from breakfast, never went back to the restaurant again during my three day stay!

Review 94:Great location, really clean, comfortable, well appointed rooms, I had water views. I loved the accommodation here!

Review 95:Restaurant was a little bit disappointing. Push out after our over cooked meals. Over look for bread at the start. Never given water until we asked for the third time. Then not even asked for our drinks order.

Review 96:Front desk service was amazing. Even at a busy stage in the evening. Help full and friendly.

Review 97:Restaurant had a poor selection vegetarian meals, although the seafood plate was delicious the cheese board was a total rip off.

Review 98:Fantastic views all around! Great walks nearby and a short drive to some excellent look out points. Also we saw two Echidna crossing the road on the way there, superb.

Review 99:Extremely poor value for money. Accomodation seriously overpriced for what you get. Restaurant Meals patchy ours were at best pub quality at top prices.

Review 100:Fantastic location.

Review 101:Nil

Review 102:Eco friendly location. Superb natural setting to relax in. Facilities great. Staff very friendly and efficient. Food good but unimaginative . Cabins very comfortable.

Review 103:The only thing was that I gave in an advert saying that you can get 15% off on the dates we had arrived in - and there was an issue regarding this staff saying we did not know anything about this??? I found that I had to push for it?? which they finally gave me???

Review 104:The privacy was good>>

Review 105:Staff were not all that friendly. Didn't make a reservation for the restuarant so we ate dinner in the bistro. Food was okay but the service and facilities could use some improvement. Felt very unwelcome during our stay.

Review 106:Room was comfortable.

Review 107:Bit disorganised with room, but gave us drink voucher so we were happy. Casual diner closed earlier than advertised in room book and was snapped at abou it by staff.

Review 108:Units clean, bed comfy, scenery gorgeous. Breakfasts tasty

Review 109:Although room was upgraded, it was not optional, I was told sorry, lodge was full. The sofa bed offered was uncomfortable. Internet we were told was free to the room yet our room was out of service area!

Review 110:Good breakfast included in tariff

Review 111:Paying extra to park the car near the walking trails $24. Breakfast was okay but nothing special.

Review 112:Our room was exceptional. Very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The view from the restaurant is amazing. This is a must do if you are traveling to Tasmania, it's worth it just for the scenery. My husband loved the oysters!

Review 113:Wifi didn't work in our cabin and we were next door to smokers, so couldn't use our balcony. :( The tiny kitchen wasn't very practical, but we ate out, so it didn't really impact on us.

Review 114:LOVED the cabin - and the location is spectacular.

Review 115:Excellent location right in the heart of the national park, easy access to the walking track. Next to Richardson beach, can walk up to Coles Bay enjoy the sunset, or morning walk. Nice place to retreat or just relax to rejuvenate.

Review 116:It wasn't the fault of staff...but we were very disappointed that the park was closed for the day for walkers because of predicted hot temperatures and high wind forecast. A walk to the wineglass bay lookout early in the morning before breakfast would have been very safe.

Review 117:The Food especially was great, and the waiter was very helpful and friendly.

Review 118:Service at the restaurant for dinner was poor. I brought a drink from the bar into the restaurant and this was left on the table throughout the meal & even after dessert. Also not all of our cutlery was cleared after the main meal and we struggled to catch the waiter's attention, despite the restaurant not being overly busy.

Review 119:We received a very warm welcome and were able to buy the park pass from reception, as well as book several activities before we booked into the room. The location is fantastic, within the national park and a short drive from the main walks. The room was clean & comfortable

Review 120:Wished the balcony has clear uninterrupted water view.

Review 121:Superb service. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. The cabin is very clean. Great fine dining experience.

Review 122:Late check in No housekeeping Waited until 5 pm for room to be cleaned Rusty Kettle Poor cleanliness of rooms (bathrooms)

Review 123:location, luxerions roomy suits

Review 124:Villa for 4 was excellent. Pity we arrived late and didn't get to enjoy the afternoon. Only had a one night stay. Walk to Wineglass Bay was the icing on the cake. Lovely pod of dolphin too.

Review 125:Loved the relaxed yet beautiful feel of the whole place - the cabin was delightful, clean and stylish and comfortable. Only a view of the water would have improved it, but I understand not all cabins can provide this!

Review 126:The bistro was pretty basic and in need of a decor update. Could be much nicer if it was refreshed.

Review 127:Location, the Bay restaurant, amazing views and privacy of the accommodation

Review 128:We've been staying at the Lodge for over 25 years and before the present one was built. Sadly RACT have turned it into an expensive motel with no emphasis on its environmental surroundings at all. Why did they remove the foyer photos showing the history of the site and the people concerned? And why remove the excellent glossy but informative Tasmania-based magazines from the cabins? They have also installed TVs and mini-bars in each cabin. Previously guests wandered down to the lounge for a before-dinner drink and met and sometimes chatted to other travellers there. The lounge is now empty most of the time as people stay in their rooms. Sad. A full breakfast was always provided under Federal Hotels. While advertised on websites as "Breakfast included", on arrival guests are told Continental is included but it's $10 plus for the full breakfast. Terrible PR, as is the 1% surcharge on paying by card! The breakfast really needs a bit of imagination and TLC. If RACT and Tasmania aim to appeal to travellers they need to make a feature of the unique aspects of their properties. They have done the complete opposite here and turned it into an expenive motel. Our overseas visitors would love greater emphasis on the area's features and RACT could work with the National Park info centre down the road to provide this. (Many visitors never realise what's there and don't go)

Review 129:Staff are willing and helpful. Recetion is first class. But room service and some dining staff need strict written procedures to follow and much better training. It might help if two people serviced a room at a time - each with a checklist of jobs to be done then initialled when completed. Manners are an issue at times eg. Wait staff walk unheedingly in front of guests in the dining room rather than waiting for them to pass.

Review 130:Food is expensive and barely satisfactory, the tub in the cabin is not clean at all and we would very much like but can't use it. There's no wifi signal in the cabin.

Review 131:If you just want to relax and do nothing (except the occasional walk) then this is just the place to do it. Beautiful pristine seascape on both sides of the peninsula. I liked relaxing in the lodge but wish it wasn't the only place to access wifi.

Review 132:Our spa wasn't as clean as we would expect. Had to give it a quick wipe over before we could use it.

Review 133:Loved the fact we were upgraded. Really made our stay all the more memorable.
