Reviews for Linaker Art Deco Nurses Quarters

Review 1:We had two rooms and one ensuite. My husbands room had a fan, heater and t.v. My room didn't have these facilities. I didn't mind not having a t.v. but if the weather had been hot it would of been very uncomfortable not having a fan in my room. Likewise in winter i think it would be cold without a heater. We were a bit disapointed in the continental breakfast. We would of expected some fruit juice and maybe some fruit.

Review 2:I liked the location. So quiet and no traffic. Surrounded by lovely gardens. The staff were friendly. The beds were really comfortable. The shower was great.

Review 3:Air conditioning not working in 35C heat this was unacceptable. Staff moved us to sister GK hotel at no extra charge. So all good.

Review 4:Location is close to points of interest.

Review 5:It was a shame we could not get an evening meal during our stay.

Review 6:We enjoyed the extra space of the family room. The surroundings. It was very private , loved the shower .

Review 7:Don't book expecting art deco details. The facade is plain and the reference to art deco in the furnishings, while pleasant is minimal. The rooms seem small and a certain amount of noise seems to carry through the walls. Not ideal for those with physical limitations as the parking is some distance from the building with a steep path.

Review 8:The grounds surrounding the Linaker are beautiful and offer many opportunities to walk or sit in peace. They are an absolute highlight of the experience and reduce any negatives to minor importance. The bistro at the GK Hotel is very good and adaptions of menu items to food restrictions is willingly undertaken. The lounge area on each floor gives a pleasant alternative for relaxing.

Review 9:Would have preferred a curtain to block hall light coming into room at night.

Review 10:The location; the sad history and the deco style. It was moving to read the history of the asylum and so glad we have moved on from those days. The gardens were very beautiful and calming and I loved the art deco style and the character of the Nurses' Quarters.

Review 11:Difficult to locate property. Didn't state that it is part of GK hotel and to check in there. We drove around for quite some time!

Review 12:Loved the grounds

Review 13:Bed was very hard like a wooden door. Also mouldy smell on ground floor entrance.

Review 14:Loved the parkland around the accommodation. The wifi was very useful as my mobile phone had poor coverage in Beechworth. Very relaxing place. Like the GK hotel cafe as well.

Review 15:our initial room on the ground floor was a bit dark and the freezer had frozen shut.

Review 16:beautiful location. we changed our first room on the ground floor to one on the third floor at the front of the building. much nicer and brighter. Staff very friendly and helpful and meal at the restaurant was very nice

Review 17:the bed was hard and not comfortabl. no phone in room, so you had to walk to reception to discuss anything. maybe some food/ drink in fridge on arrival? ie bar.

Review 18:The environment mostly was appealing. Easy access to room and car parking.

Review 19:I was a little taken aback when entering the bathroom to see it was totally set up for a handicapped guest. Big open shower with shower curtain and hand rails beside the toilet. As I had booked 2 rooms, one of which was a gift for family I am glad that they got the nicer bathroom. I would have appreciated being forewarned.

Review 20:The room was very comfortable and decorations in it and the building were quite quirky. Beautiful setting with magnificient trees and plants.

Review 21:The only real issue we had was a malfunctioning smoke detector alarm which was silenced in due course. Also the phone in the room was disconnected and in a cupboard. It would be good if it was in a more obvious place.

Review 22:The beautiful garden location. The attention to detail in the stylish interior decor. The facilities and comfort. The friendly and helpful staff.

Review 23:Paid top price for the accommodation and we did not even get a breakfast included over the weekend, we got some do it yourself toast and tea in a very disorganised dinning room on Monday staff member kept on apologising for the mess and lack of choice. Not value for money at $400+

Review 24:The history of the place and the chance to see it before it is all sold off

Review 25:Beautiful grounds and friendly helpful staff. Short stroll to great restaurant in associated hotel with good food and wine. Our daughter especially enjoyed the crepes!

Review 26:Lighting in the car park was dim

Review 27:Really enjoyed this place: Beautiful setting; Comfortable, good sized room; Continental breakfast as part of the tariff

Review 28:I arrived at night when the hotel was closed - it was a little difficult finding where to go.

Review 29:The gardens were quite beautiful. The whole place was so peaceful - and with the windows open I could hear the frogs. All fabulous.

Review 30:I loved the style of this hotel. It has been decorated tastefully and love the old doors. Lots of old features to look at. Staff were so friendly and really made our stay special.

Review 31:The rooms are cosy and quiet and "Linaker" located in a particularly pretty part of beautiful Beechworth. We were amazed to be encouraged to leave our bikes in the lovely art deco lobby.

Review 32:The spa in the room was really an old beige bathtub from the seventies. Some future in the hallways really needed throwing out and a hallway at the bottom of a set of stairs was full of leaves and dirt.

Review 33:The Whole estate was beautiful in an eerie way. I think we were the only people in the Nurses' Quarters.

Review 34:We were particularly impressed with the Art Deco building in which we were staying. The surroundings, also, were very beautiful and we enjoyed some interesting walks in the parklands.

Review 35:The queen suite was very small, the room barely large enough to open a suitcase. The promised king size bed was a queen at best. Cleanliness of rooms could do with an upgrade, there were cobwebs in the bedroom and the windowsills were quite grubby. Cigarette butts deposited in the gravel at the entrance of the building is not a good look nor are the unpruned hydrangeas abd weedy garden beds...more care and attention to detail is needed.

Review 36:The setting for this art deco, former nurses home is fabulous, in beautiful and peaceful park like grounds. The accommodation building has loads of potential. The location is a short walk to the centre of Beechworth. The cafe restaurant served excellent meals including breakfast and dinner. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 37:Booked a room for family of four. Queen size bed was very comfortable but fold out lounge bed had not been made up and was not suitable for two older children. Two (made up) single beds would have been more appropriate. We had a late check-in (after 11pm) and didn't want to cause too much of a disturbance getting the beds right and luckily we had two sleeping bags in the car .

Review 38:Beautiful grounds and fascinating history. Comfortable clean accommodation. Quiet and spacious. Would like to return and spend more time there.

Review 39:Was disappointed with the room which was shabby and could have been better presented. The building could have been maintained better as it was a lovely facade.

Review 40:quiet location

Review 41:We had a corner room on the top floor of the Nurses Quarters. It was very cold the first night despite the heating being on maximum. The next two days we had the use of a portable heater. Bliss!!

Review 42:The room and bed were very comfortable. Loved the spa bath, particularly after being out in the cold all day. We had everything we needed. The breakfast was simple but quite adequate for us. Beautiful grounds; wished we'd had more time to explore.

Review 43:room dated and extremely cold (even with heater up to highest setting and left on all night), overpriced for value, no frills accomodation

Review 44:The surroundings and gardens

Review 45:the sliding doors in the communal area made it a cold draughty place to meet with group of friends lack of lockable spaces to store bicycles

Review 46:The roome set up, bed comfort, the small fridge, the restaurant and bar in the main building

Review 47:Quite Drafty in the rooms, bathroom was freezing, not described well as far as where reception is at the other hotel etc..

Review 48:Food was great, staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and as described.

Review 49:The mains at the restaurant were a bit hit and miss but reasonable value. The salad that came with the fish and chips was very inter but the salad we ordered as a side was perfect.

Review 50:The 1930s architecture. Beautiful grounds. The archery was a bonus.

Review 51:Linaker is in a fantastic location on a hill overlooking Beechworth and surrounded my gardens and mature trees. Basic but comfortable rooms with a touch of history. Recommended for families.

Review 52:WiFi not available in my room. Had to go to sitting room to get reception. Penny pinching on soap. Stayed 2 nights..room service came and did not replace soap. Had to wash with a slither.

Review 53:spacious room, quiet, comfortable, spa bath, heated.

Review 54:The only thing that wasn't great was the internet connection but as we were on holidays it didn't really matter.

Review 55:It's such a lovely place, the staff are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. We've stayed here a couple of times now and highly recommend the place.

Review 56:On registration at The Hotel, we decided to stay there and not have to cross the road for meals. This factor is not evident in the promotion of the Nurses Quarters. The whole area is lovely but as elderly guests we needed the comfort the Hotel offered.

Review 57:Bit creepy having no-one around in the reception area at the accomodation block, but should have read the email confirmation I got as that contained all the information. Would have been good to have the free wifi in the accomodation area as well.

Review 58:Great, affordable accomodation. Clean and tidy

Review 59:TI WAS A VREY LONG WALK TO THE FRONT DESK FROM THE ROOM NO TOILET PAPER INTHE ROOM

Review 60:THE ROOM WAS VERY CLEAN AND. A GOOD SIZE GOOD QUEEN SIZE BED

Review 61:Seeing the restaurant was closed for most of our stay it would have been helpful to have had a kitchenette, plates, cutlery, etc. to be able to make a light breakfast, and heat an evening meal.

Review 62:Nice private location, wonderful setting. Quite a unique situation.

Review 63:Given wrong room initially had to change. Booked for 2 rooms and requested close together. Despite asking again on arrival this was not accommodated. Disappointing. Dirty crockery. Not impressed having to make own pull out bed for booked guest.

Review 64:Location and beautiful walks through trees.

Review 65:the lighting in my bedroom wasn't bright enough for my poor eyesight.

Review 66:I loved the grounds, gardens and ambience of the place. I also liked the fact that the twin rooms actually had two separate bedrooms. My husband snores so I actually got a good night's sleep.

Review 67:The only slight issue was with the central heating (from the ceiling), the fan from the central unit is very weak hencedoesn't push out the heat well. It will heat to 18-20C. We got a panel heater in addition to heat my parents room, which worked very well. The main bed was comfortable, but as expected the pull out couch isn't quite as comfortable, but adequate. Overall still a good experience. These are notes not complaints.

Review 68:The staff were excellent as the location and quarters. Highly recommended.

Review 69:Poor service at breakfast. No choice of fruit juice, apple only or breads for toaat. Not very good at all. In fact we didn't bother the 2nd day

Review 70:The Estate

Review 71:We liked the acres of gardens, free continental breakfast, friendly staff and accommodation that was a bit different, not 5 star but comfortable and full of history.

Review 72:Need a sign at the end of Albert St to say turn right to Linaker Art Deco.

Review 73:Efficient and pleasant staff at George Kerford Hotel where you check in. Wonderful dinner, excellent food at George Kerford Hotel. Highly recommend you try it. Garden has magnificent trees.

Review 74:smokers in the stairwell and the fumes travelling through the hall. otherwise a no dislike at all. we will be back.

Review 75:we were very impressed with the refurbishment of the building, the decor in keeping with the era and the space of the room. the room was quiet - considering lots of young families were also staying, we did not hear the little ones at all. we had a great nights sleep.

Review 76:Had to go to GK hotel for Continental Breakfast so missed it. Perhaps an option for all day Continental B'fast could be considered or an alternative for those who wish to sleep in. Maybe a drop off of toast to the Linaker ???????

Review 77:3rd floor = Comfortable bed, all mod-cons, lovely art deco refurbishment, cozy room with a tree view in a lovely setting.

Review 78:Wifi was weak, a little over-priced for what it is.

Review 79:Clean comfortable accommodation, shower was hot with good pressure. Location is 15 minute walk from town. Staff are lovely.

Review 80:No staff in actual building, need to check in & out at other hotel. New bathrooms but rest of property run down, coupled with lack of staff gave it that spooky feel.

Review 81:Art-deco features & history associated with the property were lovely.

Review 82:The setting and grounds are beautiful, but more care needs to be taken to maintain the classic gardens and grounds. I.e weeding, deadheading hydrangeas, maintaining gardens.

Review 83:Comfortable rooms, with all facilities we could need.

Review 84:Noisy due to other guests talking late outside the building. Our bed was very hard & consequently didn't get much sleep

Review 85:Our room was made up of a bedroom plus a separate sitting room and a good sized bathroom with a very good shower. Comfortable but plain rooms. Good value even at Easter

Review 86:Hotel in a great location, tastefully decorated. Got a lovely surprise with the twin room not your usual typical one. Would stay again, staff were lovely and friendly.

Review 87:Rooms are ok but might need an update.

Review 88:Building and surrounding areas! The old hospitals were amazing and great to have a walk... for those ones who are interested in.

Review 89:If something works well, don't change it!

Review 90:The refurbished Nurses Quarters were top quality, at a very reasonable price. A quiet, well presented kind of accommodation for a one night stop over, as was our situation.

Review 91:My partner a bit put off by the fact the hotel had a past connection with the asylum. But, being the nurses quarters I felt none of that.

Review 92:I liked the hotel surrounds, the quiet, the sense of the past in the whole situation. The national trust trees, the short walk to shops and eateries. Would be great for a large group. Also like the modern version of art-deco remodeled bathroom.

Review 93:The staff were very helpful and even put a large heater in the room as we were cold. We enjoyed dining at the George Kerford Hotel in the grounds. We drove around the property before we left and that was well worth doing.

Review 94:Free WiFi was advertised, just couldn't find the password.

Review 95:Wasn't sure what to expect when we booked this hotel. Great location for the ghost tour but a fair walk to town. Beds & bathrooms were clean however a lot of dust and cobwebs begind tables and wardrobe.

Review 96:Wi fi did not work in room, only foyer. A decent walk to centre of Beechworth

Review 97:Good value for money, large room, comfortable bed, large bathroom, beautiful grounds great for a morning walk

Review 98:1.GPS couldn't recognise the given address, luckily the town information centre was still open and said that others have also foud that the given address is difficult to locate. 2.No grate in shower waste, lost soap. 3.TV was not working properly, replaced with another which had the wrong hand control and then it stopped working.4. No A.C. or fan. 5. Shower was tiny

Review 99:The park like setting was fabulous

Review 100:Given Double bed rooms when booked queen rooms, upgraded the next day to most suitable queen suites. Restaurant was closed on the Sunday Night

Review 101:The Queen suites were very comfortable and of course the grounds and atmosphere are beautiful. Special bus pick-up at the hotel for the concert we were attending.

Review 102:A bit tricky to find your way around initially.

Review 103:Graceful art deco building and a real 1930's nautical feel to our small suite. Beautiful gardens to explore, good restaurant near-by, friendly and helpful staff.

Review 104:We couldn't connect to the WiFi.

Review 105:We had a family room and it was very spacious, lounge area and really big bathroom. The room was clean & comfortable. This place is amazing & has so much history. It is the nurses quarters in the Beechworth Asylum. There are beautiful trees and great walking trails. I walked through the old asylum buildings. I loved it. Great value for money. We will be staying there again when we come back to Beechworth hopefully in the next few months. Love Beechworth....

Review 106:The restaurant was not open very much.Beechworth had plenty of food outlets but at times would have liked to stay at the hotel.

Review 107:The setting is stunning.going for a walk in the grounds leaves you stunned at every corner.the accomodation was very comfortable . The staff were excellent.

Review 108:Very small room, no seating except for on the bed, no facial tissues. Bit too far away from town centre

Review 109:The idea of what they are trying to achieve with the use of the building

Review 110:Advertised free wifi but no information in the rooms about how to gain it

Review 111:Location at the historic Mayday Hills asylum was our favourite part. The decor and the use of the old big doors in the hotel was great to put us back in the times of when the hotel was the nurses quarters

Review 112:the upkeep & maintenance of the grounds needed attention but looked like it would be a massive job. The sprinkler in the garden just beside our room was on for the 3 days stay even when it was raining!!

Review 113:Absolute value for money the Nurses quarters was a beautiful building to stay in. Loved our stay

Review 114:Rooms were a little old; but I didn't really have a problem with that.

Review 115:Very friendly staff. Awesome location. Awesome everything, really! Can't wait to go back.

Review 116:When booking inI asked for the WiFi,was told to ask at the desk in the nurses quarters. We did not see anyone manning the desk for the time of our stay.

Review 117:Beautiful setting in the May Day gardens. We liked the large room on the 3rd floor.

Review 118:While the rooms were clean, we thought some work could be done around the back entrance of the property to keep it clean and free of cobwebs. We couldn't get the wifi to work either, but it is available for free.

Review 119:All hotels can be a bit the same after a while. Not this one! Set on expansive grounds not too far from town, these former nurses quarters are a good mix between the quirky and the comfortable. To be commended! We stayed in a queen suite and had essentially three rooms, bedroom, bathroom, living (& a small entry)! Staff were good and it was generally clean and comfortable. Tennis courts, a sauna and swimming pool are all part of the complex. Although we didn't use it, there is also bike hire.

Review 120:Initially we had problems with the fridge not working, but the staff fixed it up very quickly.

Review 121:Proximity to George Kerford hotel for the excellent restaurant and swimming pool.

Review 122:Cleanliness of rooms needs some attention Reception, pool Etc at motel 150 Metes away

Review 123:Great location , lovely gardens, beautiful Building, big rooms

Review 124:It is still early days since the new owners purchased the property. I think most of the small negatives come down to this and the age of the building (however quite nicely refurbished). The grounds are a quick car ride or bike ride from town. Wi fi was weak on the top storey. So was phone reception.

Review 125:Beechworth is a great town and the Linkater is a little gem of it's own. Situated at the top of the town the grounds host a number of activities. It's a unique stay with very welcoming staff. I hope this boutique hotel does well in the future. A great stay.

Review 126:The bed Matress was uncomfortable and hard, could do with better quality matresses

Review 127:The Linaker over all was very good, very friendly staff, clean room and good location

Review 128:Having to leave.

Review 129:Size of the rooms was excellent, so much more comfortable than a motel unit. Welcoming and aesthetically-pleasing foyer, reading area and furnishings. The location in the park-like grounds was a bonus.

Review 130:The room we first checked into was very small and not well appointed. We asked for and received a move to a more spacious room however the air con did not work and we eventually moved to the hotel section.

Review 131:Helpfulness of staff in resolving our concerns. The room we were finally allocated was very comfortable and we loved the gardens and the surrounds of the hotel. Both hotel and the 'Nurses Quarters" section are still developing and have the potential to achieve great things. should

Review 132:Parking was a bit restricted at rear of property due to no of guests. More spaces should be provided to accommodate all guests

Review 133:The gardens and trees.Love waking up in the mornings and looking out over the well kept lawns with the magnificent trees.

Review 134:Our "family suite" didn't have air conditioning. In early November that was not a problem, however, in the middle of summer it may be.

Review 135:The large bathroom area. The gardens around the accommodation. Heating unit was good.

Review 136:Unfortunately it is very overpriced we paid $140 for the night without breakfast from our experience on this trip it was 40% above what we would consider market rate

Review 137:The room was simply furnished and very clean surrounded by lovely gardens about 3 minutes drive from central Beechworth

Review 138:The staff came into the room but did not service it for two days until I complained. Staff kept complaining about customers in front of me. A female staff member came into my room with out notice and I was in my underwear. No sorry or justification she just chatted with the door open. Staff surprised when I complained about this. Needs to be addressed.

Review 139:Nice place and good quiet room. Great location.

Review 140:Walking over to the George Kerford for reception and meals could have been a problem if it was raining. My elderly family who were staying there too were not able open the back door to the car park with their door card.

Review 141:The room was well set out with tasteful décor and the spa bath was divine. There was a generous supply of linen. The location was quiet, in beautiful gardens, and an easy drive or pleasant walk into town.
