Reviews for Pousada Convento de Beja

Review 1:We were beside one another pair the only guests. Poor menu. The location in the city and nothing to see in town.To be a nice stay lot of guests are necessary due tot he judge size of the house.

Review 2:The conversion of a moastery to an elegant hotel. Excellent service in the large dining hall but food was rather ordinary and expensive. Plenty of free parking behind the hotel.

Review 3:Completely overpriced. Stayed a few days at a superior room that wasn't the superior. Not that much room, no working AC, the toiled was leaking which makes the flusher always pouring water which added to the overall noise in the room. The fridge next to the bed was very loud and the room had only a very small window. We had +30C and the swimming pool wasn't clean and wasn't working (in early September) the outside playground seamed abandoned and wasn't clean.

Review 4:The privileged location at the historical part of the city and the hotel building.

Review 5:None

Review 6:The staff are friendly and welcoming, The dining experience in the large monastic hall was excellent. Great gardens and pool. The local walled town is bustling with shops and bars.

Review 7:The resturant was not worth the money. It was no personal in the bar when you would lika something to drink, you must call someone and then they didnt know how to do the drinks. The Wi-Fi was miserable... ..

Review 8:Amazons building. Near the town area.. The staff was very helpful when we wanted to uppgrade the room. Nice poolarea....

Review 9:Apart from one young man, the service was poor. Reception did not have a map of Beja for us. They showed no interest in us as individuals which was a shame as we love Portugal. There was a Services Remembrance event going on at the same time as our visit and we ordinary guests were ignored. I was ill after the evening meal. As we signed out the receptionist did not even ask if we had enjoyed our stay!

Review 10:Our room was comfortable and spacious.

Review 11:Boiled meat with canned, overcooked peas (called stew). The restaurant has not the quality that it boast of.

Review 12:Near to the old part of the city. Nice room.

Review 13:Beja by night. Not enough restaurants or bars. Pretty much dead as a little town in Portugal. The road to Beja was in poor condition from Castro verde.

Review 14:The hotel was in good and location. Breakfast good and staff Very polite and willing to help with anything.

Review 15:Good accessible location with secure parking. Very friendly and helpful staff at reception and in the restaurant. Very good regional food in the restaurant.

Review 16:the central location of the Pousada was ideal for looking around Beja, and it was easy to walk to most attractions. The room was beautiful and large, with a view of the pool. The buffet breakfast had a large range of products to choose from.

Review 17:Little things: wifi only in (some) public areas. Bathroom flooded when bathtub emptied (staff seemed to think this was normal, but it was dealt with promptly). Woken at 0730 by an extremely loud cleaning machine outside the window. Staff well trained and unfailingly polite, but do they sometimes convey the feeling that you should just accept that you are fortunate to stay at the hotel?

Review 18:Walking distance to attractions in old town. Fantastic building, of course. Quality of breakfast and dinner very good. Very good value on the over-55 promotion.

Review 19:Nothing

Review 20:Excellent hotel in beautifully restored historic building. We had an excellent response from the reception staff when we reported, latish in the evening, a problem with our air-conditioning. We were immediately offered another (superior) room and offered assistance with transferring our bags.

Review 21:Nothing!

Review 22:It was the most peaceful place we have ever stayed. Breathtakingly beautiful with wonderful staff, a lovely pool and in the centre of the old town. The castle (free) is well worth walking up to.

Review 23:Everything! Beautiful historic monument, with gothic chapel and frescos in several living rooms. Breakfast with good variety of everything. Lovely atmosphere and rooms.

Review 24:We liked lovely old architecture of the convent, very friendly and helpful reception staff . Clean , pleasant room

Review 25:everything

Review 26:- Expensive hotel for its facilities and comfort - restaurant is bad - no air conditioner

Review 30:The room

Review 31:The garden and swimming pool

Review 33:Friendly helpful staff,

Review 34:Excellent reception staff

Review 35:Roads to get there are not in great condition

Review 36:Staff very helpful Relaxing historic place

Review 37:Diner at the poussada is expensive. You can eat better food for less money at one of the small restaurants in the city

Review 38:Wi-fi in public areas only

Review 39:Beautiful building, friendly staff. We ate in the restraunt and the 3 course meal was delicious.

Review 40:Very interesting building

Review 41:Mattress much too firm and pillow very average but quite common in Portugul we have found

Review 42:Bathroom size, room size very good

Review 43:Fabulous building

Review 44:Hard bed. Unpleasant odour in the bathroom.

Review 45:The aura the history of the building created. The staff were most obliging.

Review 46:Room rather dark with poor outlook

Review 47:Everything.

Review 48:A beautiful & well maintained building & a lovely place to stay for a couple of days to explore area.

Review 49:The convent building

Review 50:We are happy to try this kind of hotel inn Portugal. Very good plac to stay! Tef, norway

Review 51:Food was good but my wife's cod was too salty

Review 52:Virtually everything

Review 53:The surroundings.

Review 54:The swimming pool - ping-pong table...

Review 55:Loved everything

Review 56:Excellent food Super pool

Review 57:very strong coffee!

Review 58:Wonderful tranquility, beautiful surroundings, fabulous room and delicious local cuisine.

Review 59:Little things, the, lights I our room did not operate properly. For instance to charge your Mobile or computer you had to leave your key in your room and the wall lights on. We along with a German and American couple were surprised there were no English language newspapers.

Review 60:We enjoyed the restaurant excellent food, equally, good service. The hotel has a grand palatial feel. The rooms were good, pleasant, clean and comfortable.

Review 61:No heating in our bathroom - not even a heated towel rail. The restaurant was disappointing - food was of poor quality and the waiting staff were obnoxious.

Review 62:The location is excellent. Very comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 63:Swimming pool was closed and no sun-beds available even though sky was clear and temperature in the mid/high 20s (centigrade) during the day. No table tennis facilities. Bedroom was a twin, not a double.

Review 64:Wonderfully atmospheric pousada with excellent location in Beja. Excellent buffet breakfast. Peaceful and quiet. Clean and spacious room/bathroom with bath tub.

Review 65:Hotel was fine but little disappointed with Beja itself. Great countryside to explore especially the bird reserve just north of Castro Verde.

Review 66:Great location. Easy access to surrounding areas. Fantastic swimming pool and lovely historical building.

Review 67:The bar has no staff and the phone to call staff was not working so walking the 100mts to get service was bad considering each drink was costing €8 was not satisfactory. The food in the dining room was expensive and poor. My mother had to return her veal as it was tough. The replacement "salted cod" was not cooked throughout. My pork was tough and cold. Despite 6 wines by the glass listed on the menu only one was offered and this was unpleasant so I ended up having a local beer. Overall the restaurent was terrible but the accomodation was very good. Internet access was not available in the bedroom (on the card in the room it stated you could access it )

Review 68:Room was nice

Review 69:no negatives.

Review 70:The big plus was the central location. The private car park was a bonus. This beautiful pousada was a former monastery, and that was evident when one walked along the long wide corridors. The room was very comfortable, the bed linen was luxurious and soft, especially the pillowcases. The views from the room were lovely. At breakfast there was a lot of choice, including good vegetarian options. The staff were very welcoming.

Review 71:The city of Beja is exceptionally quiet on the weekend. We decided to stay here largely because of the Pousada. If you want to see more city life, you may want to choose another city.

Review 72:The pousada was kept in excellent condition. Rooms and facilities were clean and neat. The dinner was excellent although a little on the pricey side. Cosy.

Review 73:No free wireless internet service in the room, which is extremely disappointing considering the hotel markets itself as a luxury hotel. The food served at dinner in the restaurant was horrible. Extremely expensive for Portuguese standards, and for these prices one would expect top quality. Unfortunately, that was not the case. All dishes had problems, we returned our two main dishes, since the quality was so bad. Stay away from the restaurant, the menu looks interesting when you read it, but the chef is very bad and unable to deliver any sort of quality in the dishes he serves.

Review 74:The Pousada was very well maintained, room was great, breakfast was good, with plenty of choices. The staff was very helpful and professional. The building itself is very very beautiful, with lots of rooms where one can relax.

Review 75:Central location, free parking, old convent, an extremely spacious building with wide corridors, lounges, cloisters etc. V luxurious. The hugeness and emptiness might not suit those looking for liveliness but certainly provides peace and quiet. Excellent breakfast.

Review 76:very dark with low powered light bulbs in old burned lampshades. room was cold. we asked for a fan heater. Bath drained out onto bathroom floor. This was not repaired despite our request, and flooded the floor again on our second day. No tea/coffee making in room. No WiFi in room. Ants in dining room on walls and tables.

Review 77:location.

Review 78:The hotel is so large (converted monastry) its a bit souless. Bejais a very quiet town so the main attraction is relaxing in thehotel. In hindsight after staying a number of other hotels wethought it was expensive

Review 79:Good size rooms and a very spacious hotel with some history to boot.Good place to relax for a few days by the pool.

Review 80:the constant noise while trying to relax by the pool from the pumps. The pool was very badly chipped and in need of a paint job. The cheap brand of vodka (eristoff) and mixer (pepsi bought cheaply in a supermarket) and the high price for two vodkas and one can ....15euro. The breakfast was very poor and other people complained while we were there. Coffee was like dish water. I also find it strange that in a hotel like this that you pay to use the pool table, tennis etc. Will not stay there again

Review 81:central location. the style of the building and the friendly staff

Review 82:The generosity of the building is not reflected in the rooms; pretty narrow (double) bed. No WiFi in the rooms.

Review 83:The location is superb. The whole building is very generous. This is true for the garden. Possibility to park the car on the premises.

Review 84:we were dissapointed with the dinner menu and wine list which was over priced for the quality and selection. bar facilities were por to none existent and exceptionally expensive.

Review 85:we liked the historic feel of the building.

Review 86:The English information we were given was obviously translated word forword from Portuguese and some of it was very difficult to understand. Also I was charged €12 more than I was quoted from booking, which Ididn't notice until my return.

Review 87:The pousada is very central and is very impressively decorated. It'sobvious a lot of care and attention has gone into choosing the furniturefor the rooms and for the rest of the hotel.

Review 88:Beja is a fairly ugly town and the hotel is right in the middle of it.

Review 89:Excellent service, beautiful hotel, very good food. The best overallexperience during our trip to Portugal so far.

Review 90:poor bar service,Hotel was nearly empty and I think they are short of staff, bar and restaurant were cold and badly lit.

Review 91:great building car parking on site

Review 92:Showers

Review 93:Swimming pool is dirty. Lightning of the outside restaurant is poor.

Review 94:Great atmospheric location.

Review 95:Very helpful staff, especially Anna who re-arranged a booking for us. The location is right in town, walk everywhere.

Review 96:rooms rather small compared to other pousadas. Some staff inattentive.

Review 97:spacious public spaces

Review 98:Everything about the place and staff. The converted convent has so much character architecturally and historically

Review 99:un peu triste

Review 100:bon petit déjeuner, bien situé, bel endroit

Review 101:Tired gardens and cost. Food OK but not worth the money

Review 102:Beautiful building

Review 103:Price/value ratio does not work. Overpriced restaurant with bellow average food. Everything is a kind of empty. No wi fi in the rooms

Review 104:Excellent service. Peaceful and tranquil Hotel. Comfortable room. Good parking facilities.

Review 105:difficulty to use internet

Review 106:beautiful monastery

Review 107:The recommended 3-course dinner was a bit disappointing.

Review 108:The impressive building and the calm environment.

Review 109:Nice room. Great swimming pool (but too much noise from airco machinery). Restaurant is more than OK.

Review 110:Needs more people/patronage to add "warmth".

Review 111:Location, historical/heritage context; breakfast

Review 112:Unique environment Quiet Very helpful reception staff

Review 113:The dinner was very poor. There was no staff for the bar took ages toget a drink

Review 114:The pousada very beauiful
