Reviews for Pousada Castelo de Obidos
Review 1:Be prepared for lots of stairs, but the ambience is worth it. Park down at the bottom and let the concierge drive your car up - they are more than happy to! Rooms are small and there is no gym, but the stairs are exercise enough.
Review 2:Wonderful to stay in a real castle! LOVED walking the castle walls surrounding the little town. The staff is very, very helpful and the restaurant is beautiful.
Review 3:See above
Review 4:Rooms are tiny. Corridor stinks Restaurant not the greatest and for sure not for the money. You imagine royalty and you sleep most probably were the serve st used to
Review 5:We did not like having to move our luggage up and down small stairways because of the lack of an elevator. Also had to climb numerous steps to get to breakfast.
Review 6:They wanted us to 'feel king and queen'. They did not succeed. Far too expensive! The room was in adjacent building, not a castle-room. Restaurant way too expensive, my salmon salad had vinegar all over, my husband's octopus overcooked. Next to our table they were piling up the left overs of the large table next to us, as if we were sitting in a kitchen. Watery wine. A lot of humbug here. At breakfast there was a lot of mold on the bread..... !!! and there was no water due to something that happened in the village, but there was no mention about this at all.
Review 7:Location is good, nice helpful receptionist. Great tv, great wifi.
Review 8:How often do you get the chance to literally live like a king? We are so glad that we stayed two nights here. Obidos is such a special place and you feel like you have stepped back into another era as soon as you pass through the gate. Staying in the castle really enhanced the entire experience of being in this beautiful medieval village. The service was top notch, four-star treatment. - Given that driving and parking are so difficult in Obidos, we were grateful that the concierge offered to go and fetch our car from a parking lot outside the walls and then drive the car into the village and park it in front of the hotel. We could not have attempted this on our own because cars generally are not allowed inside the gates. Our room in the castle was a bit on the small side but loaded with atmosphere with wood ceilings and a view onto the courtyard. The restaurant upstairs is a beautiful room and very good food. There is also a snack bar and bar on site. A minor suggestion would be to provide more historical information about the hotel either through a tour or brochure (it’s possible I missed this). But this is a very minor point – everything was great and we were so glad we stayed here!
Review 9:The staff, upon our check-in, just wanted to sell their "upgrade room" in the tower to us. My written request at the time of reservation was not even read, though it was honored at the end. Room size was small and interior decoration not much different from any 3 star hotel. It is definitely not a value-for-money hotel, as the Pousada in Evora was so much better in terms of service, comfort and friendliness, and it even has a swimming pool! Dinner was very much over-priced in this Pousada.
Review 10:The location and its history.
Review 11:There are many steps, so old people might be difficult to goes up and down.
Review 12:Stuffs are friendly and very kind. They are the best during the stay in Portugal, even though the other Pousada.
Review 13:excellent hotel pool was really beautifull we have taken the breakfeast in the room and it was really great the view was incredible it is soo wonderfull
Review 14:A tiny room and a very tiny bathroom. Don't park near reception, the way out of the place is tortuous and nerve racking, it's so tight to drive out, stay in the castle car park. If your back or legs are bad, stay away, you need to be part mountain goat.
Review 15:Fantastic views.
Review 16:Very old furniture, not historical as you shuold aspect for a castle. Just old furniture.
Review 17:The place is amazing, ine if the best castles in Portugal. But it,s very sad the way they are takinh care of it. Very old furniture, we need to change the room because it isn,t historical, it,s just old. From 1950 or something. If you have the chance to stay in the tower room who is very expansive go, if you don,t save your money and go elsewhere
Review 18:We had really high expectation of this place but we were disappointed in several things. The location and the building is fantastic and there is a grWe had really high expectation of this place but we were disappointed in several things. The location and the building is fantastic and there is a great potential for a place like this but they don´t take advantage of this opportunity. The rooms are not really clean, it was dusty and the bathroom felt unhygienic with many spaces that were untidy. The glasses in the bathroom was not even washed after the previous guest. The breakfast was also kind of a bad experience. They have high ambitions,. but many things that we was served was actually uneatable. For example: The juice was yeast, the ham was grey, the pastries tasted rancid, some of the fruits was probably from the day before, some of the yogurt passed "best before" a week ago. Nothing that was served was chilled and probably many things was served day after day. For a place that costs this much you want to be positively surprised and we were not.
Review 19:The staff was really friendly and we also had a good meal in the restaurant, but it was not priceworthy.
Review 20:Breakfast did not meet expectations and did not offer so much variety. It is mainly continental and ok, but more options would be better to really have the full experience of the old times. Another point which is missing is the overall activities. A swimming pool. Or horse riding around the village would have been excellent to experience Obidos.
Review 21:The location and surroundings are perfect. The atmosphere is great and ot feels loke the ancient times back in the medieval days. Diner was really great.
Review 22:The room in the booking was pitched as one in the castle but at check-in I found out that it was not. I had to pay extra to get upgraded.
Review 23:Location and the fact that it was a castle.
Review 24:Rooms are quite small and bathrooms a bit tired, typical of the Pousadas, but all very presentable. Try to get an actual Castle keep room if you can. Ours was below the dining room so could her footsteps
Review 25:Stunning castle town and quaint streets. Hotel staff very helpful, though probably overworked. There are a lot of steps up to the Castle Rooms if carrying bags - staff insisted on doing so though. Definitely the best hotel spot in Town. Breakfast was included and very good
Review 26:Parking- I would suggest you ask reception staffs to park the car
Review 27:Wonderfully located in an ancient castle. Great restaurants around. Amazing staffs. Good breakfast
Review 28:Room is a bit dark, bed is not very comfortable.
Review 29:The highest point of the castle wall is inside the Pousada. The best location to explore the town. Great friendly staff!
Review 30:By car: getting inside the castle walls and navigation was challenging but helped by concierge. Made it there driving myself but let Fabio drive out due to large number of tourists and very narrow streets
Review 31:Location inside castle wall. Very friendly staff especially Nadia in the restaurant and Fabio in reception. Restaurant was excellent with kid goat as daily special.
Review 32:The rooms are small as one would expect since castles are designed to be hotels. Our room was also a bit on the dark side. Upgrading the lighting would be a plus.
Review 33:This Pousada has a unique location in a castle. Dinner in the restaurant was quite special and the staff were most helpful.
Review 34:The stairs would be a challenge for elderly guests but personally I did not mind them. are many steps
Review 35:Awesome location at the end of main lane, wonderful views, friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent and the ambience romantic.
Review 36:Nothing. Everything was great!
Review 37:Everything! Efficient, caring staff and super great service and food in the restaurant. Romantic tables and friendly staff everywhere.
Review 38:Some of the rooms (as was ours) are physically separated from the restaurant, with a couple of outdoor stairs to climb, in order to reach the restaurant for breakfast or main meals... on a clear, warm day it's a nice walk, might not be so when the weather isn't as nice.
Review 39:The staff was, by far, the best of our stay. Extremely helpful and very accommodating to our specific needs (we were staying with our toddler). The location is simply amazing, in one of the most beautiful places in that region of Portugal. For dinner, try to book the window table on the hotel's restaurant for a stunning view
Review 40:I did not have a bad experience but would suggest that on some staircases you have a banister just on one side of the stairs.
Review 41:The staff were simply wonderful and could not do enough for us. The visit of the falcons was icing on the cake
Review 42:Leaving.
Review 43:Beautiful Pousada, the best one we have stayed in. Excellent very friendly staff and commanding views over Obidos town from within the Castle. Great breakfast and service. We have no hesitation in recommending the Pousada to guests staying with us at Quinta do Scoto near Sintra. Kind regards Tony, Penny and Charlotte
Review 44:The many steps up to breakfast. Tough with a cane.
Review 45:They promised 5 star service in a 4 star hotel and they delivered. The staff were genuinely interested in our experience as guests. The room met our needs, breakfast provided great choices and the location of the hotel was perfect.
Review 46:I barely managed to reach the hotel by car, it's on the top of the castle and you need to drive all way long through the city in narrow main street. Rooms look like they were furnished in 60's, I did expect to have stone walls in the rooms, glowing torchs etc.. But it looks modern yet old. Restaurant is expensive, you better visit any others around. But breakfast is good. We've been waiting too long for check-in
Review 47:This place is really old and worth seen. 'City' is all inside the castle and hotel is the main part of it. Each room has it's own history
Review 48:No elevator and a lot of steps. Could be a problem for some elderly guests.
Review 49:We got the two-storey room in the tower, and our friends got the adjacent room. These are bigger than the rest of the rooms and a fun experience. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. Great location and great views from the hotel grounds.
Review 50:It was very expensive. The only thing that made it worth the upgrade was the chance to sleep in a tower of a castle.
Review 51:The staff upgraded us to the Tower room when we got there the Monday after a month long historical reenactment festival had taken place. They also made us dinner reservations in the quiet side of the dining room overlooking the countryside. The food was delicious but pricey.
Review 52:Poor maintenance of room. En suite door jams, furniture and fittings of budget quality not up to Pousada standard.Inadequate lighting. Breakfast poor quality, empty dishes not refreshed, coffee from a self service machine and undrinkable, bacon not cooked properly. This Pousada warrants a review by the company.
Review 53:Staff helpful and friendly. Very good dinner.
Review 54:After we checked in, they were having three cutting work in the patio just outside of our room and so it was so lound breaking the silence! Also, the TV/closet shelves, this furniture unfortunately mismatches in the room so pity....Coffee/espresso/cappucino at the breakfast is self-service with Nestle machine, I couldn't believe it....
Review 55:We had a double room with a big bathroom which was nice, breakfast in the restaurant with a beautiful view.
Review 56:Nothing. It was wonderful - I wish we could have spent more time there.
Review 57:We were there during the summertime Medeival Market, which was great fun for our family. The castle is beautiful, well restored and maintained and it was truly a privilege to be able to spend a night there. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. My only regret is that our stay was so short.
Review 58:Room very small and claustrophobic. Wasn't sure I could sleep at all. Somehow wife went to sleep immediately. A little too rough for our taste
Review 59:Great location, atmosphere and excellent staff. Wonderful castle experience.
Review 60:Our room D.Pedro was very small for two people with two large suitcases. We were offered a bigger room at additional cost at check-in, but decided not to worry as we were only staying for one night. We would definitely have required more room for a longer stay. Bathroom was also very small.
Review 61:This is a lovely hotel and although the room was small it was great to have a pousada experience and the town of Obidos is gorgeous. This room would be perfect for a single person or a couple with small overnight bags.
Review 62:It requires high level of driving skill to drive up hill to the hotel
Review 63:I love the view from where breakfast is served
Review 64:De estar dentro do castelo
Review 65:Fabulous views from the castle and the unique experience of staying in such an old building
Review 66:Nothing
Review 67:Great hospitality and comfort. Loved the dinner and breakfast at the restaraunt.

Review 81:My favourite part was exploring the castle wall and its surroundings.
Review 82:Only 2 days
Review 83:Special highlight to the staff team such as Antonio, Francisco and Fabio.
Review 84:Thelocation was very good and the stuff were very kind. We really were enjoying staying there.
Review 85:food, wine, service, kindness, comfort, beauty, view, location, everything!!!!
Review 86:Too many flies
Review 87:Loved staying in the castle, the views of the town, the character.
Review 88:Directions were not very good. Needs more directional signs.
Review 89:Excellent food and the experience of staying in a castle
Review 90:access
Review 91:location uniqueness
Review 92:Would not change a thing
Review 93:There are many steps to get to the dining room and to some of the rooms.
Review 94:The town was an unexpected pleasure in that there were many shops and restaurants. We stopped and had drinks in a courtyard surrounded by large trees. The crenelated wall around the town was complete and stunning. The pousada is at the top of the hill and had a good view of the town and surrounding area. We ate dinner at the restaurant there and it was formal and beautiful, the food and service were excellent.
Review 95:Lots of tourists in the town but not a major problem
Review 96:Beautiful location with stunning views. Quite fabulous. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant with a lovely view across the plains. The town is also quite worth wandering around
Review 97:I thought the room I booked through Booking.com was IN the castle. We had to stay an extra night to get into the castle.
Review 98:It was all a perfect fairytale!
Review 99:Have pictures showing how small castle rooms so you are not decieved when booking. Rooms and bathroom felt very claustrophobic.
Review 100:Excellent helpful staff
Review 101:Staying at the castle is a MUST!!! And the restaurant is so elegant and the service is impeccable! Food was unbelievable.... I loved my grilled octopus!!!!
Review 102:To expensive. Restaurant is really expensive and dont worth it
Review 103:Really nice place. Bed is Very comfortable, and the room is a little bit small, but you dont need moré anyway Personal is Very kind I recomend it for a special travel
Review 104:Noise from room above. Lack of proper shower. Damp smell. Poor lighting. Unwelcoming ambience in room gave feeling it was overpriced. Limited dinner menu choice.
Review 105:Location
Review 106:This is not really a criticism of the posada, because it is a medievalcastle, but my husband is 6'5" and had a hard time getting intoand out of the bathroom because of the low ceilings. Also, there is nocounterspace in the bathroom--hardly enough room for a toothbrush . Therestaurant offered an aperitif and appetizers as if they were on thehouse, but they charged for them.
Review 107:The staff is friendly and accommodating.
Review 108:The small flies all over the hotel was a bit shocking, but we got used to it in a few hours. At the window table especially reserved for us, the hotel guest went forth and back as it seemed to be the table beside the passage.
Review 109:Not far from Lisbon, interesting atmosphere, hard-working staff, nice food at the restaurant. Obidos is a charming village inside the castle wall, and staying at this hotel was perfect to experience this place in a short time.
Review 110:Being a medieval castle some rooms are rather small.
Review 111:The rooms are in the actual castle in the beautiful fortified city. Thestaff is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is fantastic.
Review 112:The first room I was assigned smelled strongly of rotten eggs and when I asked to be relocated, the reception staff didn't even look surprised or show any concern. It seemed that they were aware of this problem when they first assigned the room. In the second room, the towels had stains and the curtain rod above the mini fridge fell off as soon as I opened it. Considering the price, this is not what you expect. Bad value for your money.
Review 113:Most staff were exceptionally helpful and accommodating.
Review 114:No shower, just a bathtub. The fireplace was nice, but the firewood washard to light. We would have taken advantage of the on-site bar, but itwas unattended. More info on the castle (maybe a tour) and amenitieswould have been nice.
Review 115:Great to stay in a castle and perfect location. The restaurant wasbeautiful. Good sized room and bathroom.
Review 116:very small room.
Review 117:small rooms, basic bathroom
Review 118:beautiful location and nice village friendly staff
Review 119:We need to change. Ouraccommodationdates and the staff were exceptional in facilitating the. Changes needed
Review 120:Too many steps
Review 121:Location. Friendly staff
