Reviews for Mercearia da Vila
Review 1:Bus stop, historical bridge, flea market, tourismo…are all within 2-min walking distance. The room we stayed has a view overlooking the streets. It is interesting to watch the locals gathering and chatting on the streets in the morning. The hosts were polite but looked tired. It seemed that they were weary by the work load from the managing of the popular restaurant on the ground floor. There had trace of negligence of taking care of the guest house. Dusty ‘white’ curtain, stains in the water container of the coffee machine, and black mold on the walls of the room we stayed. However, the restaurant, only open for the room guests in the morning, prodvided good breakfast and the host made excellent coffee for guests, and we love the deco of the room, the shared sitting area and the restaurant. I would say it is a pleasant stay except for those disadvantage and sincerely hope that the above disadvantages can be improved.
Review 2:We stayed in the suite on the upper floor. Not good when there's pouring rain. The noise on the roof will wake you up in the middle of the night
Review 3:Great location, superb refurbishment. Big soft bed
Review 4:Nothing, really.
Review 5:The owner's friendliness and willingness to take us on a tour of the history of the house on the way to the room, the fantastic taste in redecorating this old grocery store, and the location, right on the centre of Ponte de Lima.
Review 6:Very charming boutique hotel in the center of town. We loved everything about it. There is a small restaurant attached, which unfortunately is only open until 7:00pm. It's the best place to eat in town. Be sure to try the cakes. Very sweet and friendly staff despite their limited English. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 7:Nothing
Review 8:We did like it all - location and friendliness. The equipment is confortable, clean, cosy, good quality and taste. Everybody was very nice and helpful. Delicious breakfast. Best location.
Review 9:Our only complaint would be the wifi. We suspect how the allocation of licenses to guests works to create the problems. One of us managed to get wifi after the first two days but then had it constantly. The others didn't ever get wifi throughout our 4 day stay.
Review 10:We loved the decor in the rooms. The beds were amazingly comfortable - we literally sank into sleep. Location was great. The adjoining rooms set-up exceeded our expectations. Overall great value for money.
Review 11:Nothing really. Our 13, 12 and 9 years old kids could have done with the two single beds in their room because one was approx. 120 cm wide (french double), without the extra bed I ordered.
Review 12:Lots of charm right in the middle of picturesque Ponte de Lima. Gazing at the square from your oldfashioned balcony is enough to get a holiday. Fresh bred and pastries for breakfast were loved by the kids. Perfect modern bathroom too.
Review 13:The quarter hourly, extremely loud chiming of the church bell right outside the hotel.
Review 14:The central location and the windows to the room. Great mattress on the bed.
Review 15:Anyone going to Northern Portugal should visit Ponte de Lima, which is not only Portugal's oldest town but one of its most beautiful. As an added bonus stay at Mercearia da Vila, which is bang in the centre of the pedestrianised old quarter. The simple (modern - not rustic) tasteful decor and quality furnishings give a welcoming and friendly feel, and the beds/pillows are better than most 5 star hotels. Added to this is the quality of the continental breakfast, enhanced with freshly squeezed orange juice and homemade cakes! MdV is one of those rare places that cannot be faulted.
Review 16:no elevator, but they are always ready to help you.
Review 17:Beautiful room, full of character, right in the center of town. Everyone at the hotel is nice and welcoming.
Review 18:Unfortunately some of the white furniture was looking a bit shabby. cafe shut early so had to find somewhere to eat in the evening.
Review 19:Good location for camino lovely clean comfortable bed breakfast was nice and early with plenty of choice
Review 20:Perfect location. We reserved a private parking space (only €5.00/day), and were able to do everything on foot. The hotel is situated in the historical part of the town. We were welcomed in a very friendly way. The receptionist immediately gave us a lot of information about the town (he did a much better job, than the people at the tourist information office). Room 309 has a comfortable balcony with a lovely view of the 'Santa Luzia basilica'.
Review 21:None. Minor point - Could do with a waste bin in the room.
Review 22:Location. Quality of room. Guest facilities. Friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast. Beautifully restored family shop and house into a comfortable small hotel and cafe. Tea and coffee facility in the room.
Review 23:The hotel was very cold and not at all cosy. The room was also cold and only air con blowing out warm air to take chill off. Bin in bedroom not emptied whole time we were there (4 days)! Poor breakfasts - continental style - juice, cheese, ham, yoghurts etc. No hot food selection. Hopefully it would be better more in season with warmer weather.
Review 24:Position of hotel in town. Lovely old building with interesting features. Good tea and coffee facilities in room and water in bathroom nice and hot. Helpful and friendly staff.
Review 25:Helpful, friendly staff, great location, and a good breakfast. We liked the little lounge area outside our room that had kitchen facilities and was roomy enough for our group to socialize over wine and cheese.
Review 26:Our room was a little cramped, but the others looked bigger. I think it was because we had asked for a twin and it was a bit smaller than the doubles.
Review 27:Good breakfast, fresh juice, bread, and coffee. Did not try the cakes. Reasonably priced drinks/snacks Everything tasteful. Helpful owners.
Review 28:There is nothing not to like
Review 29:What a fantastic experience. We had the suite in the attic and although it is up 4 flights of steps it is worth it. The suite is very spacious, white bright and clean and comfortable. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and breakfast was superb.
Review 30:I LOVE this place, but it's adjacent to the church whose bells ring every 15 minutes to mark the time. Bells stop at 10pm and start at 5pm. But if you're going to stay in town, you are going to hear the bells from anywhere. So you might as well stay here and enjoy the amenities!
Review 31:Absolutely adorable refurbishment. Very clean, great decor, spacious, lovely breakfast. I will always stay here on return visits.

Review 35:Although we were in the suite which did have a microwave and kettle and hidden kitchen sink, facilities were limited. No cups to make a cup of tea or any other kitchen equipment. A small fridge would have been very useful for storing drinks etc

Review 75:It was a wonderful place. There is no more to say stay there!!
Review 76:We especially appreciated the warm and friendly staff. The location was also excellent. Our room had a beautiful view over the pedestrian only street towards the river, with the Church in the foreground. If you were staying longer than us, the communal kitchen would be a bonus. Ponte de Lima is such a delightful place to visit.
Review 77:Not easy to find on arrival by car. We need clearer directions from booking.com please!
Review 78:We loved absolutely everything about this hotel. The staff are extraordinarily friendly and welcoming, the room we stayed in was the best of our entire touring holiday and the town is just beautiful. Even the lampposts play lovely music as you walk by! Lots of free parking.
Review 79:Beautiful old house with lovingly restored rooms. We were lucky to have a view of the square and river from 3 balconies. Big comfortable bed, good wifi, great shower and huge towels. breakfast included cakes from the cafe on the ground floor. Staff was very friendly. The church bells are right next door but they stop from about 7pm to 8.am so no problem.
Review 80:In our 2 weeks traveling through Portugal and Spain, this was our favorite spot. We were completely charmed by the old grocery store converted into a B&B. The room was gorgeous, the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. Try the cakes!

Review 82:The most pleasant stay in a delightful hotel. The owners and staff are incredibly kind and will go out of there way to serve you in any way possible. The hotel is beautifully decorated and offers a unique experience and unbelievable comfort in each room. Ponte De Lima and the surrounding area is one of the best places to see in Portugal. Our stay in Ponte de Lima and at the Mercearia da Vila was the high point of our trip , without a doubt.
Review 83:Nothing at all.
