Reviews for Casal Da Eira Branca - Obidos
Review 1:This hotel was amazing! Staff was very friendly and will give you great tips around the city! You are located right in the wall...so if arriving by train, get a taxi. If arriving by bus, easy walk through wall entrance. If arriving by car, they will advise where to park.
Review 2:Thank you Joao for showing us true hospitality. We felt really welcomed and would love to come back some day. Definitely recommend! PS: Guests, take the breakfast. Fresh eggs prepared for you however you like with a superb view. What more?
Review 3:The apartment was clean, very spacious and well-situated. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful-- they pointed us to the free parking lot and then met us there and took our bags to the room. They also recommended good restaurants and sights. It was a great experience and I would recommend the place to anyone staying in Obidos.
Review 4:I write this with mixed feelings, as the employees here were so sweet tous. However, we were assigned to a room with serious mold/mildewissues. (Unfortunately I had neglected to read previous reviews aboutthis, but they're there, so be warned!) We smelled the mustinesswhen we checked in, but figured the room just needed to be aired out. When we returned later, I had a full-blown allergic reaction and hadtrouble breathing (I do not have alleries!). We asked Andrew if they hadanother room and he kindly moved us across the street into a giantapartment (at no extra cost). It was still musty, but tolerable, and Iwas able to sleep. He said the building was old, that's why itsmelled. (I'm an architectural historian and live in a 150 year oldhouse. It's mold, not age!) Both of our rooms needed dehumidifersand a serious scrubbing. Mold in the bathrooms, torn screens, dirtyfloors, sloooowww hot water heater sounded like a 747 landing. Thefurniture was dated and looked like it came from a thrift shop, with anoccasional piece of Ikea furniture placed here and there. Towels werethin and like sandpaper, but at least they were clean. We did not eatbreakfast there, couldn't wait to get out of the building, frankly. But, hey, one gets what one pays for.
Review 5:The staff. Joao/John and Andreas/Andrew were utterly charming, friendly and helpful. The hotel owner should be so grateful they workhere, they are an asset! Good location in the heart of old Obidos.Beautiful architecture.
Review 6:The house is really nice and cosy, makes you feel you actually live in the nice village of Obidos. The guys at the reception and very friendly and suggested us a restaurant for dinner which turned out to be the best we've been in our entire trip.
Review 7:I got another room as I had booked. I had booked a "Deluxe room", and I got during the booking pictures from a specific room, which I liked. The room had wall and windows to the outside. At check-in, the staff gave me another room, which was - in my opinion - ugly, and this room had NO !!! windows to the outside (only doors to a corridor). The told me, that it´s also a Deluxe room". Maybe by definition of the staff, but definitely not from my point of view. For me it´s cheating people by advertising with nice pictures and later providing something different (bad and ugly). NOT recommendable.
Review 8:Adoramos todo......la atención del personal inclusive antes de llegar al hotel....las instalaciones, el ambiente, limpieza de los cuartos...y sobre todo el delicioso desayuno....Felicidades al personal hicieron nuestra estadía maravillosa.
Review 9:Joeo, was incredible, helping with all our questions. He even drove us to the supermercado to get a sim for our phone. We had our own casita with patio. It was perfect in every way. Views out every window on the city, castle & castle wall. Casa was clean, large, big kitchen, efficient bathroom, cozy bed, so comfortable!
Review 10:I wish I was provided with the parking information up front. Specifically that there is free parking available. And where it is. For example giving a Google maps link to it. But for others, it's not at the visitor center. It's across the road on the dirt lot that's up against the castle wall
Review 11:Everything! This is one of the best b&b's I've ever stayedin, and I've stayed in a lot! Our room was huge. The staff wastremendous. They met our every need with smiling faces. When I left, Iforgot a book when I left and they came running after me for fourblocks. Unbelievable place, unbelievable experience.
Review 12:The location is very convenient to the town sites. The staff picked us up at the free parking area and took our baggage through town to the hotel. The buffet breakfast is a good buy as it includes made to order eggs.
Review 13:I don't think it worth the price I'm sorry but the whole time I was thinking I was in a grandmother house (everything was really old), in general I found Obidos really expensive and not much to see. We couldn't sleep well (2 nights) because in the upper level somebody was walking all the night long and for make the experience worse at 7:00 am someone started to sweep the street just below our window.
Review 14:The person in charge of the hotel help us to carry our heavy luggage in a bicycle
Review 15:There was only one person at any time, to take Care of lugage transportation, from parking place to hotel, check in and out, preparring breakfast etc. The Young man and the Girl who worked on shift did their best, and they did Well, but they were very bussy, and there is a limit of what one person can manage.
Review 16:The hotel is inside the City wall, and very charming, our room was almost an appartment.
Review 17:Nothing.
Review 18:Everything. Staff was really friendly and welcoming. Our room "Quarto do Principe" was located right on the main street of Obidos and was just beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and they were able to address my dietary needs, which was really appreciated. Thank you so much for an amazing experience!
Review 19:Our host Joao was just wonderful and took care of all of our needs from collecting us and taking our suitcases to and from the parking lot outside the walls of Obidos (important to note is that you cannot reach the guest house by car and need to park outside of the walls and walk in) to preparing us a terrific breakfast and always being available to answer our every question.
Review 20:Extra helpful staff, very comfortable and clean apartment. Breakfast is delicious and for 6 € very good value. The house and the whole city has a special athmospher.
Review 21:The room we got was somehow dump, and you could feel it in the air (we had to keep the window open). Also, there is little isolation from the upper floor, you can hear the people walking around and opening/closing the doors.
Review 22:Friendly staff and very nice position, a taxi service with electric bike is also included if you need to bring your luggage from the parking! Nice breakfast with croissants baked on the spot.
Review 23:The guesthouse could use an upgrade, especially the bathroom. Ours was not too clean and had a foul smell. This was the only downside to staying here, everything else was fine.
Review 24:Great host and perfect location. Comfortable bed and nice room amenities.
Review 25:Car parking was quite hard the first day, but the Supervisor provided all the info we needed (and phisically showed me where to park!)
Review 26:The Staff was kind, passionate and dedicated to all our needs.
Review 27:Nothing
Review 28:We loved it so much. It is beautiful just inside the old town. Perfectly located :-) And! If you don't have it included I can fully recommend adding the breakfast. During our whole holiday (7 Ho(s)tels) we never had a nicer breakfast
Review 29:Loved the spacious and cool rooms (great getaway from the heat outside for an afternoon nap). Personnel is extremely friendly and helpful. Luggage carrying service (from the parking outside the citadel) proved very useful as the streets of Obidos are paved. Baby friendly accommodation (we found all the baby gear we needed)
Review 30:We loved this place. Very unpretentious and the staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout. Our room was enormous with a separate bedroom, study and bathroom... and the price was ridiculously inexpensive. It is on a back street off of the main area, so was very quite. The staff pointed us to some lovely out of the way (non-touristy) restaurants which were all excellent. It felt like a very low key, very well run establishment. We loved our two days there.
Review 31:A tiny bit difficult to transport our luggage, but that's mostly because Obidos is car-free.
Review 32:Huge, comfortable place- unbelievable size.. for a family of 4, it was almost as big as our house! Perfect location for exploring Obidos.
Review 33:The staff is awesome!João is one of the kindest person I've ever met!che is helpful in every moment, even when you've already left the city. The position is perfectly in the middle of the old town, and the rooms are beatiful and big! I really recommend it!
Review 34:Very poor wifi, had to stay close to the door to get a signal.
Review 35:Spacious duplex room with a small living room space. The location is very good and our room was situated in a relatively calm street.
Review 36:Smokers are too close to non-smokers. It is very easy to move that area next to the pool, making the entire breakfast area smoke-free
Review 37:Oksana makes wonders in the kitchen. Elena keeps everything clean and tidy.
Review 38:The staff were incredible. So helpful and kind. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and have instructions and maps for everything. The breakfast was delicious. We had the cutest room and an amazing stay. Would definitely book again.
Review 39:Our room was located across from the back of a restaurant. There was a noisy exhaust fan going most of the day and until about 11 pm.
Review 40:Great location in the center of the walled city...yet away from the main street. Nice to have a garden and kitchen available for guest use. Staff helped with transporting luggage to/from the parking lot outside the walls to the hotel inside the walls in a pedestrian only zone.
Review 41:Extremely friendly and helpful hotel staff. The room was large and clean - we loved it! And the breakfast was worth the 6 euro! Great location of the hotel, as it is in the town center. Perfect for a romantic getaway!
Review 42:Excellent location right in centre of obi dos literally walk out of accommodation and on Main Street. Exceptionally courteous and helpful staff and a welcome shot of ginga!
Review 43:Everything about this lovely little place was just fabulous - and our particular thanks to Joao who provided exemplary service when initially booking, at check in and again at check out.
Review 44:Location is good but as in any medieval town a bit hard to reach by car. The staff was amazing and helpful esp. With pointing out good places to dine. The building is a very nice house with a superb patio.
Review 45:Unusual to have no direct window in the bedroom, although quieter as a result. As noticed elsewhere in smaller establishments, the understandable use of impermeable under-sheets reduce the comfort of the otherwise excellent bed. Also we Brits do value having a private kettle for tea, even though a coffee machine was provided. Just a little concerned over security.
Review 46:Attractiveness of building inside and out, and landscaped courtyards; breakfast and ability to use lovely communal spaces. Also a kitchen we could have used. Position was very good, access felt smugly local. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 47:No bad experience..property is new and they are still fine tuning. I suggested shade umbrella for huge sunny patio. We made our own breakfast, hence no score on hotel breakfast.
Review 48:Lovely house, great patio, stunning views , staff terrific, village just so beautiful.
Review 49:Separate fee for breakfast. Too may cars getting inside city walls, no supervision of who is driving them or why. A town like this should only allow disabled motorists and carts pulled by donkeys.
Review 50:We took a one week fly-drive vacation, to tour some of the battlefields of Peninsular War of 1808-1814. We did 1800km, seven hotels. All were fine, different to each other but comfortable and good value. This one is in the pretty town of Obidos, which has walls all round and narrow cobbled streets. It was clean, bright, quiet, comfortable. They served a good breakfast but it was not included in price. Staff recommended local restaurant, again looked a little rough from outside but food and atmosphere was great - and low prices!
Review 51:You couldn't drive to hotel. We parked in free parking lot.
Review 52:They gave us a huge bedroom with another room. The breakfast included fresh from the oven baked croissant. They gave us a small fridge with a freezer
Review 53:Stayed 3 days; wished I could have stayed longer. Staff were very nice and really made an effort to make my stay enjoyable. I was met by John who rode the bike down to the bus stop to help with my suitcase, gave a good introduction to Obidos while I enjoyed a delicious Cherry liquor. The breakfast had a variety of of good foods including great coffee and scrambled eggs prepared by Carina who attended to the guests to ensure they enjoyed their breakfast. Thank you to Andre also for taking my suitcase to the bus when I left.
Review 54:Our apartment across the street was very spacious but a little too simply furnished. Next time I would stay in the main house with its arbored terrace.
Review 55:I loved the charm, intimacy, helpful staff, great breakfast and perfect location of this small inn. I thoroughly recommend spending the night, rather than just a brief day trip to this town. It is magical when the bus hordes leave. Walking the ramparts at sunset was spectacular.
Review 56:Did not realize the hotel was inside the walls. GPS kept taking us to the parking lot outside the walls. Information office gave us direction to the hotel.fun place
Review 57:Inside the walls close to everything.
Review 58:Amazing location, beautiful view from our room and the staff did everything they could to help us- from bringing our suitcases fo free to helping book our trip for next day
Review 59:Staff was so friendly and welcoming. They were prepared and very helpful. They reserved a spot at breakfast for us to ensure our family could sit together and then made us eggs to order! The apartment was roomy, clean and well situated.
Review 60:Staff were amazingly helpful. John assisted us with our luggage, and even drove our car through some narrow lanes. The young lady the next morning was delightful also. Great breakfast for 5€ pp. I loved the room, the town..everything!
Review 61:To get to the hotel (a converted house), you must park outside and walk through the entry. Finding the parking lot though was a chore. Luckily, the local Portuguese helped us tremendously and got us to the lot.
Review 62:If you want to be one of the people of Obidos, then Eira is your choice. Well inside the walls it's as if you are living in Obidos.
Review 63:Really good location and a super-friendly welcome from this family-run B&B. Fantastic restaurant recommendation - the best value meal we had in Portugal!
Review 64:We were welcomed really beautifully and throughly our short stay were provided with little extras that made the difference - a plug adaptor, a small glass of port wine and lots of friendly smiles!
Review 65:It was a bit damp and musty smelling although understandably it is an old building. A dehumidifier is probably all that's needed.
Review 66:The breakfast was plentiful and nicely served
Review 67:A little chilly (although the heat by the bed was excellent) and took a while for the hot water to get going. But as expected in the existing infrastructure within the castle walls. Breakfast was adequate but could slightly improve.
Review 68:Great location, helpful staff!
Review 69:As you cannot enter obidos by car, I got a little lost on how to get to the hotel. Once I got there, the staff provided a transfer for the luggage and gave me all guidance I needed. It is not a negative point, but be sure to ask the staff for some directions before you arrive.
Review 70:Staff, breakfast, the location inside the city walls and near great places to eat. The view from one of the bedrooms (quarto do sino) was just great. The annex where we stayed was also very clean and comfortable.
Review 71:Needs a little upgrading in terms of finish.
Review 72:Luggage picked up from tourist office in the rain! Spacious, historic accommodation, good breakfast for €5 although coffee could have tasted better. Central location with good views.
Review 73:The room is cozy and quiet, feeling like a home. Perfect for two people. The receptionists were quite nice. The location is good, very close to the main street.
Review 74:One of the bedrooms we had felt cold and damp. Unclear if common space in the apartment was only for our use or if others might be staying there.
Review 75:Central location. Spacious apartments. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast.
Review 76:Had to pull luggage there from parking lot outside the walls.
Review 77:Excellent location within the walls. Helpful staff. Large bedroom with a large sitting room next to it. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Reasonably priced. We got to choose how we wanted our eggs cooked.
Review 78:Nothing! This place has character, comfort & style for veryreasonable prices.
Review 79:We were 2 couples sharing an apartment. Huge living room, full kitchen,2 bathrooms, dining area! Spotless, comfortable, best location, sweethost& hostess. Wonderful breakfast for 5 euros. Highly recommend .
Review 80:Wonderful hosts - Joao used his electric bicycle to carry our bags to the parking area. Nice breakfast room. The Princes Room was great - lots of space and nice private bathroom. Location allows you toe experience the town before/after the bus tours.
Review 81:Nothing really...maybe the instant hot water heater in the kitchen was kind of noisy when it came on when you where in having a coffee in there.
Review 82:Felt very traditional with a stay within the walled city. Living room was very spacious and the rooms very nice. Bathrooms were small, but that's not unusual for this type of accommodation. John was excellent and very helpful. Just remember, you cannot get your car close to this apartment as its inside city walled area, which we knew in advance. Walking the city walls was fantastic.
Review 83:nothing we disliked.
Review 84:We strongly recommend this place. Light spacious clean and modern. Friendly staff who helped with all our queries and made us feel very welcome. One of the best houses we've ever stayed in.
Review 85:Had to park outside the walled village, so 0.5 km walk to car with cases - not an issue but worth being aware of
Review 86:Location was excellent, the receptionist was both attentive and easy going. We took a superior room which had an enormous amount of space, wifi was good, a very characterful space. We added breakfast for an additional 5 euros which was great value and a pleasant experience.
Review 87:Nothing!
Review 88:Friendly and very informative welcome, comfortable room, great location inside the walls - it was the best way to enjoy Óbidos after the buses of visitors left. João gave us great recommendations for restaurants. Parking outside the walls was easy and the walk to the Casal not very far as it is situated relatively close to the main city entrance.
Review 89:nothing bad
Review 90:we came with a car so we called the reception for guidance where to park it. there a free parking lot just out side the walls next tty o Barclays bank we got a room that was a few metets from the reception but what a room was it!!! a 2 floors place with kitchen and even a washing machine
Review 91:Make sure to wear a pair of walking shoes with excellent soles as the cobblestones are uneven. If you decide to walk the walls, there are no handrails for safety. Do it slowly and stay close to the wall. But the views are worth it.
Review 92:It's a beautiful quaint village. Every corner and wall is a feast to the eyes. We just love it!
Review 93:The bathroom, although fine and perfectly clean, could possibly be upgraded a little - but this is a minor point.
Review 94:We (two adults 50s and one 14-year old) spent the last three nights of our holiday in Portugal here, and were very pleased with it. We had a very nice two bedroom apartment, with a spacious sitting room, good kitchen, washing machine (though we didn't use it!), computer and Wi-Fi access, right in the centre of Obidos. Our apartment was in a building just opposite the main Casal Eira one, ground floor access at the back, but first floor facing onto the main street (rua Direita) at the front. Staff were young, and uniformly friendly and helpful. Breakfast is available though not included in the room rate: we had it on the first morning and it was perfectly fine, but we bought our own bread and cheese and coffee to have in the apartment after that. The cost of accommodation - for such a spacious apartment in such a good location in a town where prices tend to be quite high - was pretty good. It isn't luxurious, but I would strongly recommend it.
Review 95:Perfect staff, very kind and sympathic, the hotel is really central and cute. The staff takes your luggage from/to the parking (200m far from the hotel) and helped in everything that we needed. I strongly recommend it
Review 96:A cross between ramshackle and palatial, the hotel is situated nicely in the city and our room – actually more like two or three rooms – was spacious and very welcoming. Good breakfasts and helpful staff. Well worth the money.
Review 97:Staff not flexible for checking in at 14:00 because they only start doing it at 15:00. we had to come back later.
Review 98:The house is very beautiful and comfortable. Our stay was very pleasant. I recommend it!
Review 99:If you decide to travel to Portugal and you rent a car - Mediaval in Obidos is worth to visit and Casal De Eira Branca is a good choise to stop. You will feel the real spirit of Mediaval.. Very comfortable rooms and good beds.. Beautiful view from the window early in the morning...
Review 100:The noise all night of a humming electrical tension. Apart from the restaurant noise just opposite the room until 23h30.
Review 101:Location, friendly staff, well equiped room
Review 102:Parking outside the castle walls. Not a big deal though.
Review 103:A large suite like renovated ancient room. Very comfortable with a full size tub and spacious bedroom. Half a mile down the road the family run Snack Shack offered a great meal value.
Review 104:Nothing, it was a great stay.
Review 105:It's a really great value, for a big suite that could sleep 3, nice bathroom. Breakfast is extra, we did not get a chance to have it due to early departure. Wonderful staff, common kitchen available, luggage service from the car park. Located in a historic building in the center of Obidos. During summer the town hosts a medieval festival. Obidos is a great option for a 1st or final day in Portugal if you are flying out of Lisbon as it's an easy drive.
Review 106:The location was excellent - right in the centre, within the walls. The staff were also fabulous - they were very nice and extremely helpful. My friend and I had a great stay here and would highly recommend Casal Da Eira Branca to other travellers.
Review 107:Everything perfect
Review 108:Very helpful and welcoming staff, perfect position, nice breakfAst and wonderful surrounding...what else? We really enjoyed our stay in obidos, thanks also to the good tips received from the staff of the Casal
Review 109:nothing i disliked !
Review 110:I strongly recommand this place. The team is very kind, the place is well situated and beautifull, rooms are well decorated and quiet. And we had an amazing breakfast with fresh products !
Review 111:Location, careful staff, cleanliness
Review 112:Service
Review 113:The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast selections. Very good wifi connection. Very good location
Review 114:Everything was just fine
Review 115:Everything ... The place is typically Portuguese and very nicely decorated. Really helpful staff.
