Review 1:Noisy neighbours on balcony. Directly under the balcony the staff used it as a place to have their break/smoke/private phone calls. Hard to relax in that situation so didn't want to stay on my balcony ever.

Review 2:It's fair to say that the bathroom was quite dirty (also the bedroom) and some of the hotel is a bit shabby. But, and for me it is a big but, the hotel is robust enough to take it and still deliver a great and relaxing stay.

Review 3:The view from the bedroom was excellent: almost unimpeded vista of the harbor and Mt Pico. The pool area, jacuzzi etc is great, as is the location. There is also plenty of indoor space for the rainier days in Faial.

Review 4:The hotel was exactly what the website said it was. There's a beautiful view, pools, and even a small play area for children. I didn't find anything negative about this hotel and will return to them in the future.

Review 5:While their breakfast buffet had many choices, the eggs were very wet and under cooked every morning. They had unreliable wifi in the rooms, but a better connection in the dining room and lobby.

Review 6:The hotel is in a great location that is walking distance to the marina, a hiking trail, and tons of restaurants. There are nice gathering areas in the lobby and on other floors for large groups that are traveling together. The breakfast buffet had a great selection of fruit, cheeses, homemade breads and fresh squeezed juices.

Review 7:I appreciate every time so much the kindness of the staff ! The 2 swimming pools are great and big enough for sportive swimming ! The view is amazing (on Pico) !

Review 8:The room and view, jacuzzi. Location was perfect for us to look out for our our husbands sailing into marina. They were on the ARC Europe from Bermuda to Faial.

Review 11:Bedroom years out of date. Wardrobe had nail sticking out which ripped clothing and was so shallow couldn't hang clothes properly without them becoming creased. Bed was a thin mattress on a frame of rough wooden boards. Toilet leaked and no attempt was made to rectify it although we were there 4 nights.

Review 13:Breakfast: eggs were runny, bacon not cooked enough. Should be a choice for well done or regular and scrambled eggs shouldn't be so liquidy. Cook them longer.

Review 16:The hotel is just amazing - with greatest view from the room with terrace - the ocean, the harbour, the Pico Island. The staff is so polite and very helpfull. The woman which works at the lobby bar is incredible and makes everything for the clients. The wifi is a little bit slow, but hey we are in the middle of the ocean. The reception staff and the bell boys are just great. I recommend the hotel and the island.

Review 17:Internet service not the best. Not able to use it when needed because out of service for a few days, even though I paid for it. Mattress was very uncomfortable, a little too hard.

Review 22:Large hotel centrally placed and very convenient for car parking, and walking into the small town of Horta.The staff were extremely helpful. A car is essential on all of these islands as bus services are very poor and taxis limited: so a hotel with a good car-park is a must.

Review 23:The hotel seemed to be run military staff. The restaurant staff hardly ever smiled and didn't interact with the guests. The female manager seemed cold and looked abit down on the staff.The staff seemed afraid of her which gave an uncomfortable atmosphere. Cobwebs in the Vila Pico hallway.Front door of the Vila needs to be painted. Bathroom needed a fan. Shower curtain was yellow and should be replaced. These are simple things to do and would make a huge difference.In Canada 4 star hotels are a lot better managed.

Review 24:The decor was nice. The room was clean. Some staff were approachable. The doormen and bartenders were amazing and reception staff.

Review 50:The staff was very friendly. Location is near city center and close to shopping. Easy access from the airport by cab. We were here off season so the spa and sauna were not on, but the indoor pool was clean and nice. Nice selection for breakfast.

Review 51:Outdated rooms with a lot of malfunctions. The receptionist (whichattended our check in), who was about 50 years old, wasn't even a bitfriendly, which is a bad policy and inadmissible in 4 stars hotel.

Review 52:Not a 4 star hotel. You don't get what you pay for. Hotel is old and in desperate need of renovation. Moquete was filthy. See pictures. My room was very small. Staff unfriendly and with the wrong attitude. Made me pay for extrabed (out of 6 different hotels booked with booking.com on my trip in the islands this is the only time it happened).

Review 56:We travel out of country 2-3 times /year and experience many differenthotels each year. In general, we found this resort hotel to be poorlymanaged, over-regulated, with over-controlled (possibly under-paid)staff who appear to be unhappy, despite their concerted efforts to bepolite to guests. In-room and exterior amenities are aging and aremaintained in poor-fair condition. Resort Management appear to believethe hotel can survive primarily on its location and views ofocean/Pico mountain.Examples of our experience included:1. Entire hotel /room central air temperature was set at 25C, which is too warm and uncomfortable for sleeping, especially when this translates to 30C with humidex. When we complained, the bell-boy showed up to troubleshoot the air conditioning. Although the staff understood the problem and how to fix it, they would not lower the central air temperature. Although the hallways and lobby temperature were tolerable due to breeze through, the heat gain within the rooms with closed doors was unacceptable. This was a deal-breaker for us and for this one reason alone, we do not recommend this hotel to anyone. Central air should be set between 20-22 C at all times, allowing guests to control their room temperature, not the hotel management.2. Wi-Fi costs extra, is expensive at €9 /hr, is slow speed (possibly due to small router kept at main desk with limited capability) and it is available only in the hotel lobby, which is very inconvenient. It is the year 2012 - Wi-fi should be hassle-free and always included with room and available in-room, as it is at other remote locations in/around Horta. (not pay-per-use as it used to be when introduced 20+ years ago and when it was more costly).3. hotel complimentary breakfast buffet in large dining room only had a small 2-slice toaster for all guests to use, which caused long waits with plate in hand for guests to serve themselves. Hotel should be using a commercial /large volume toaster.4.

Review 57:Location near shopping and restaurants in downtown Horta was excellent;view of ocean and Pico Mountain was excellent.Quality of food in Hotel was very good. Complimentary fruit basket was very nice. Beds were large and comfortable, with lots of pillows.
