Reviews for Hunter Country Lodge

Review 1:Talk about amazing hospitality! Everyone at HCL was incredibly friendly, and made our stay unforgettable. I would definitely come here again next time I am in the Hunter region! Special thanks go to Simon, and also Carmen! We also loved Shakey Tables Restaurant. We all loved our food.

Review 2:I loved how friendly and helpful the staff were during our stay in the Hunter Lodge. The Shakey Tables restaurant had great food and delicious breakfast. The view from the rooms was also stunning!

Review 3:The pillow is too hard and the mattress is weird.

Review 4:The view is amazing, the staff is super friendly, the value is good for money! Definitely coming back to stay again.

Review 5:The bathroom was disgusting. There was a horrible sewerage type smell the whole time we were there. Room facilities were basic. Bed was uncomfortable.

Review 6:The pool area & surrounds looked nice. The room was rustic & clean.

Review 7:Swimming pool had not been cleaned for some time - therefore no swim. Breakfast meal was rather meager

Review 8:Location among the gum trees Facilities in the room

Review 9:The bathroom was very shabby, the swimming pool was full of leaves (and 2 chairs). The window blinds were broken. The place could do with an update!

Review 10:The surroundings- nature, vineyards, as well as the restaurant.

Review 11:Just need to check when the restaurant is open. We were there for a concert and didn't know it wouldn't be open for dinner. made for a very expensive cab ride to the next restaurant.

Review 12:Very clean and comfortable and great location just out of Pokolbin.

Review 13:The room is a little tired, its supposed to be rustic, just needs a little bit of a makeover, the sliding door to the bathroom kept sticking. Evertime someone walked along the rooms, it was really loud,

Review 14:WE loved their Shakey Tables Restaurant, the food was more than masterchef quality, the staff were lovely and helpful

Review 15:The bathrooms are vintage and a bit of shock when you first see them! But very clean, functional, and the shower had a good head of hot and cold water.

Review 16:The restaurant, the food and staff were all EXCEPTIONAL Do not miss the chance of eating at The Shakey Table. The chalet location and communal balcony overlooking the pool and grounds was great for chatting with neighbours and friends... but not if you prefer privacy. The fridge was stocked with a lovely full jug of chilled water... chilled glasses and a selection of wine to buy... nothing expensive.. all good. There is a complimentary supply of Aeroguard and Insect Repellent in each room. A well thought of extra for those early evening chats on the balcony. Although the chalets are joined in two rows of eight, with the restaurant in the middle... there was no noise interference between rooms at all. We could not hear the T.V. or conversations from adjoining rooms.. which is always good.

Review 17:Rooms clean but basic compared to other lodges in the area. Pool area could do with smartening up.

Review 18:Restaurant Shakey Tables absolutely fantastic! Fantastic host Simon made us most welcome in his organic and eco- friendly establishment. Room service was excellent! Loved seeing the kangaroos and birds in the grounds!

Review 19:Great food, great staff, great location/outlook from room and everything was so clean. We would definitely recommend your establishment to our family and friends. We plan to return some time in the future.

Review 20:Breakfast says it's available in the restaurant - but if you don't let anyone body no when you check in or if they don't ask you when they give you the keys - as we checked in after hours - there is no breakfast available - was disappointing

Review 21:All it needed was a brighter light somewhere, probably the bathroom, had to go outside to put on make-up!

Review 22:It was all good, great spot, great hosts, great food.

Review 23:The room was adequate. Clean. Bed comfortable. Shower hot. Restaurant was great. A bit pricey but the food was delicious. Staff friendly. Outlook was lovely and quiet.

Review 24:We liked it a lot and have recommended it to friends. Living in the busy city makes us appreciate this place more. Will return to this place.

Review 25:The location and the peaceful country side. Very relaxing and we still got to do what we wanted to do. The smell of fresh air in the morning and just watching the sun setting is breath taking from where we stayed.

Review 26:The bathroom was very old and has not had an upgrade since being built I would think. The grounds and gardens are in need of TLC. There is a jug for tea making and a fridge but I would have really appreciated a toaster.

Review 27:The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The room was warm and there was a good TV.

Review 28:The kitchen was missing some basics eg. tea towel for wiping cups, glasses and a dishcloth for wiping down bench tops after use. Restaurant food was great but not enough to fill empty stomachs without ordering several side dishes. Overall it was poor value for the price paid.

Review 29:Great location. Friendly staff.

Review 30:No protection against the mosquitoes and rooms are not well sealed so can smell the cigarette smoke from outside.

Review 31:Excellent staff and fantastic food at Shakey Tables (restaurant on site)

Review 32:We stayed there one night on a trip to Hunter Valley. The location is just off the centre of the vineyard so its not bad, just means you will be driving everywhere. It also has the perk of having the quiet parkland around you which is beautiful. The rooms are simple but were clean. The bed and pillows were nice and firm which I loved! The restaurant is amazing for food but its not cheap. I think we spent almost as much on food and drinks as we did on the room!! Overall a good experience!

Review 33:Disappointing. Bed was like sleeping on a slab of concrete and breakfast was just toast and cereal - far below the gourmet experience you want from the Hunter. Really it's not that hard to offer a poached egg, roasted tomato avocado breakfast

Review 34:Leaking gutter directly in front of room and it was pouring rain. Very Spartan for price and no wet weather activity options; games room would have been mostvwrlcome

Review 35:Dinner in Shakey Tables restaurant was superb

Review 36:On arrival and the following day the lady that greeted (or not greeted) me needs to brush up on her customer (service) skills. All she was worried about was that we had booked our accommodation before she realised Rod Stewart was to be performing in the area.(this was mentioned a few times). We were there for a wedding and will not be recommending this property to anyone mainly because of the attitude of this lady.

Review 37:However, the accommodation does not resemble the pictures on the website , there are two rows of motel rooms either side of the resturant building , the setting is lovely with rustic decking overlooking the estate BUT for the price you pay the rooms themselves are very basic indeed, the 2 plastic chairs outside each door Shouldve been a warning , There had obviously been an attempt to update them but look like they have all had a '60 minute makeover' the bathrooms are particularly ghastly and could do with a few dollars spending on them. Also make sure you check excactly what you get as meal inclusions. Our booking stated 'breakfast and dinner included in room rate'' ($315 per night) we booked for 2 nights and on arrival , although we got 2 breakfasts we only got 1 dinner.!

Review 38:The resturant at this accommodation is fabulous, the food was absolutely top notch and beautifully presented

Review 39:Communication was lacking - apparently we had both a meal and breakfast included but as we weren't informed of this (breakfast as least) we missed it. The room was completely misleading. Cracked and broken towel rails and clothes line. The bed was a hard brick of Clarke rubber and the pillows sawdust. We didn't sleep at all. Overall I felt ripped off.

Review 40:The Staff were lovely - the meal which was included was amazing.

Review 41:The rooms and especially the bathroom is a little dated. We would have loved to use the swimming pool but the surface was covered with bugs which should be skimmed off the surface.

Review 42:The hotel is set in a vineyard and the rooms face a beautiful, peaceful garden. The rooms are clean, the bed is comfortable, the shower works well and there is air conditioning. Their restaurant has a nice ambience and prices are approx. $20 for an entree and $40 for a main. The food was very good and nicely presented. Staff is friendly.

Review 43:The mattress was a little hard and the pillows are flat.

Review 44:All the staff were friendly and polite and very helpful with any request we had. Although the facilities and decor were a little dated, it was clean.

Review 45:It was a hot day (37 degrees outside) and the air conditioning took several hours to actually cool the room. I was expecting the facilities to be basic - I would liken the room to a log cabin - but I felt that some attention was required to cleaning and dusting.

Review 46:I was on a quick break to the Hunter Valley on my own, in the middle of a work trip, and looking to have some quiet time. The setting was lovely and I was able to get some rest. I dined at Shaky Tables and it was great - both the food and service were fantastic.

Review 47:The Cabin was nice, however the bed was very uncomfortable .. The Restaurant in terms of setting was ideal.the food was good .however it was very expensive. The set menu needs to be complimented with additional items that reduce the price..especially when average main meals were above even reasonable Sydney restaurant prices..

Review 48:The overall scenary was beautiful and the very short trip to the restaurant was so convenient.. The staff were lovely and in terms of location it was ideal

Review 49:Shaky tables is overpriced and rubbish. There is not enough privacy in the rooms. Light floods through

Review 50:room was comfortable and countrified. Bed was good. Breakfast was adequate . View is lovely.

Review 51:Was in First room at entrance to car park- could hear everyone's footsteps as they walked past the room to get to theirs.woken up from my sleep- that loud due to the wooden ramp to the rooms. Stayed over for 2 nights over a long weekend. Not worth the price. Breakfast was nothing special.

Review 52:Outlook. Good location in wine country drive. Room was clean

Review 53:The food was delicious but there were limited choices that appealed to me.

Review 54:Staff were very friendly and accomodating. All the small touches made a big difference- wine glasses chilled, hotel's own wine in the room. The setting was beautiful and tranquil and I felt the stress melt away as soon as I arrived.

Review 55:It was a simple down to earth lodge but has the necessary things you need....comfortable bed, impeccable clean room, great and friendly staff BUT the thing that was priceless the view at your doorstep! I woke up to see a lorikeet on the balcony, kangaroos in the hills when at the pond AND having native birds and butterflies feeding from the flowers

Review 56:Very poor breakfast. Very basic, would have opted to go with out & travel to a cafe instead.

Review 57:Very nice country style accommodation. Beautiful location.

Review 58:Our booking had not come through although staff did prepare a room for us. On a rainy night it was very hard to see the entry. No signage where to go. Very dinghy approach.

Review 59:The bed was really comfortable. The setting beautiful particularly in the early morning complete with mist. Their own champagne was very good after a long drive

Review 60:Quiet and comfortable. Near to many vineyards/cafes/restaurants.

Review 61:Restaurant food was disappointing Not up to standard for price

Review 71:Great restaurant

Review 72:Location, comfort, staff, fantastic restaurant. Excellent experience - we will stay there again.

Review 73:The surrounding location beautiful

Review 74:Daggy exterior and reception facilities poor signage

Review 75:Although simple facilities the linen and beds were super luxurious.. Serene views

Review 76:Venetian blinds were extremely dusty/dirty

Review 77:Quit, quaint. We knew what to expect as we have stayed here three times previously

Review 78:The wooden veranda outside our room was very noisy and we were woken by lare arrivals walking past our room.

Review 79:The evening meal was special.

Review 80:Breakfast was awful.Very expensive given the very basic foods offered. Dried up pastries.

Review 81:It is a lovely property.

Review 82:Very over priced for the room we used.

Review 83:Really helpful staff. Attractive, quiet rural location. Restaurant served excellent food.

Review 84:Very old place and expensive food was terrible

Review 85:I think it will need fly screens on the windows and doors in the summer months.

Review 86:Easy to find plus a very peaceful and quiet location.

Review 87:The pictures didn't do it justice, the staff were very friendly and it was very comfortable and cozy accomodation

Review 88:The Restaurant

Review 89:Very uncomfortable bed, lots of spiders in room towels werent replaced.

Review 90:Nice location

Review 91:Charged $20 for nutrigrain . Was ment to be a buffet breakfast but had little variety.

Review 92:That I had to leave to go to work.

Review 93:All good, nice clean room. Continental Breakfast very nice.

Review 103:Location and surronds

Review 104:Nothing.

Review 105:The food at the restaurant was spectacular. This is why we drove up from Sydney.

Review 106:Décor in the room was a little tired. A biscuit with the coffee making facilities would have been a nice gesture.

Review 107:Lovely setting.

Review 108:Peacefulness was gr8 & an absolutely excellent restaurant, we will back for sure...

Review 109:Country style living with not so many people and the clean air.
