Reviews for Botel Maastricht
Review 1:Only a single Mains outlet which made plugging phone in to charge a little awkward, but not unexpected for a converted boat at the price.
Review 2:Unique and good value for money. Not luxury accomadation but good for a traveller on a budget there to see the sights and conveniently located.
Review 3:Not that important but nice to know: quite soft matrasses (though that might be a matter of taste), thin walls so bring ear plugs if you don't want to hear your neighbours, the breakfast is quite minimalistic, bit lack of privacy in the room itself (just a curtain to divide beds and toilet/shower)
Review 4:Very nice and helpful staff, great location near park (with canons!) and city centre, reasonably prized, with a bunk bed and porthole as we wished, amazing view from the breakfast room (and the great christmas decorations) - a hotel to go back to soon!
Review 5:A tad pricey for a tiny room - albeit clean and comfortable, you certainly pay for the 'riverboat' experience. Rooms are chilly in the night - gives you an excuse to bundle up. Cash-only payments are outdated.
Review 6:The location: sunrise-facing, riverside cabin windows onto the Maas. Feeling and hearing the waves underneath us put us at ease - with story-rich Maastricht only one gangplank walk away. Lovely, filling sunrise breakfast available.
Review 7:The toilets are too far away from the first floor roomms, it is little inconvenient in the morning during winters
Review 8:Service is good.. Location is nice....beds are comfortable..
Review 9:We expected the room to be small but it was smaller than expected! But i can say that it was cozy and comfortable for us to stay just for a night. Room and toilet were very clean and neat. Room was bit cold during the night.
Review 10:Location is great, just near the center of the city. In about 10 mins walking you can go to the pubs, cafes, and restaurants. Staff was super friendly and nice.
Review 11:Very small room, very basic. Looks dirty but maybe because it is a very old boat. I have slept in better place for less money.
Review 12:The receptionist is friendly
Review 13:Room was very small, cold when we got in and we needed to turn the heat on by ourselves. Seems to me that price is a bit overrated for the service.
Review 14:Our stay in botel was nice experience. Personal is very friendly, location is right by the hand of the city centre. Room was clean. We were not disappointed.
Review 15:The room they gave me was at the bottom part: did not have WiFi reception at all and there were cracking sounds all day long
Review 16:The bed was comfortable and warm. WC was shared but was clean! The best part of the stay was sitting at the lounge in the evening and morning by the river - unforgettable!
Review 17:Sleeping on a boat, you have to make a few concessions! Amenities are limited, but adequate. Rooms are small. Walls are thin. Floor is squeaky. But again... you're on a boat, space is very limited! Wouldn't spend a week. Could easily spend a few nights though.
Review 18:Quirky little hotel. Original, clean and friendly. Maastricht center is pretty small, the hotel is literally 10mins (foot) away from almost everything. Rooms are small but comfortable (providing you are not too tall). Staff is very friendly.
Review 19:It's more like a hostel than a hotel. For people taller than 1.70/1.75m the beds are not comfortable since you'd touch the wall with your head and your feet the other wall. Besides the beds are rather narrow (the double bed is 120 or 140cm wide, the single bed is less than 90cm). I can imagine that the experience is not so charming when you come for several days and want to be completely rested. The bedrooms in the lower deck had very small round boat windows, so no view (the upper deck had a good sized window)
Review 20:It's a charming experience. Be prepared that the experience is 'small scale' (low ceilings, short bed). And be prepared for thin walls. The location is perfect, close to train station, the Ceramique area and the city centre. I slept on the upper deck, which meant that I had to go outside (on the deck, no roof) to go to the toilet, the early morning breeze was actually very nice waking up in the morning (fortunately it didn't rain).
Review 21:Interior of the boat is beyond its lifetime. Everything is moldy andfalling apart. This boat needs to be gutted and completely rebuiltinside. Place is terrible, I would not recommend it to anyone. I want mymoney back. Don't ruin your trip, stay elsewhere.
Review 22:Good location, close to city centre. Nice staff.
Review 23:Not much, just the noise of late guest arriving. But then again it is a boat.
Review 24:Top location with very friendly helpfull staff. Very small room but very cozy, old but clean. The experience of sleeping on a boat (never slept this good). The view on the river waking up or enjoying a nice breakfast. The common area where you feel at home instantly. Unlike most hotels we stayed in the prices at the bar are normal. I can recommend this not-your-average-hotel to anyone who loves an exclusive experience is not in for much luxury but loves an informal familiair atmosphere and wants a cheap stay in a beautifull old town.
Review 25:It was a great experience to sleep inside a boat and to somehow feel like sailors for one night. The place is very charming and the price is affordable for young travelers!
Review 26:Ok.... I will comment on the plain things. So we booked a double bed room with our own bathroom/toilet. a) I am a 1.85cm and could barely fit on my bed. No joking, no exaggeration. My feet were fully touching the wall and my head was touching the top. b) the toilet/bathroom is the typical low cost thing were the toilet is below the shower thing on a 1x1 room. It would be ok if the room was cheaper. The toilet seat needs a change since you can see the wood on it on the spots where the white surface has been removed. It also had a small leakage on a specific part of the floor of some water which did not want to investigate further. c) So Netherlands, cold, by the river and so on. The window was not closing properly. In addition it was not an double glazing, so it was just a piece of glass that could not close properly and the cold was coming in. d) it had a particular smell of low cost thing. The whole thing was worse since the small room has no ventilation besides the non-fixed window thing... e) It could really need a renovation of many parts. On a wooden closet is carved "love u" or something like it. Doesnt cost too much to remove it but it shows the general stance of the management. f) you could hear the passerby walking outside of your window, which is ok in the "botel" experience. Just to let you know.
Review 27:Overall the "botel" concept is nice experience, it can be romantic and is a nice place to relax. So thumbs up for the concept of having a hotel on a boat. Also the personnel were really helpful when I asked for things.
Review 28:Could be uncomfortable for old people due to really high slope stairs. Just on shsre shower
Review 29:The boat itself it's really nice and romantic, the position its perfect as well
Review 30:It's a boat, so not a lot of space. But that's no reason to complain if you book a stay on a boat.
Review 31:It's a boat! Great novelty value. Lovely terrace to have a beer by the riverside.
Review 32:We could hear everybody's alarms and drunken late-night-arrivals...
Review 33:Loved staying on a boat. Beautiful view, brilliant location. Big breakfast included.
Review 34:Very small room Very small bed, more like single than double bed.
Review 35:The location was perfect. The staff were very friendly older people, nice and helpful. Because my wife is pregnant we got a bigger room with a bigger bed.
Review 36:room was very tiny. This was quite disappointing as there were other rooms available that were unoccupied. I couldn't lie straight because the bed too small. Was the smallest double bed I have ever seen, more like a large king single with a quarter chopped off. Was very very hot and stuffy, when we opened the window, the cabin filled with mosquitoes and other flying insects.
Review 37:It was on a boat
Review 38:My room was absolutely full of spiders (not joking, i managed to kill about 5 big ones before giving up). After asking for a change, they gave me another room downstairs that was dark, essentially no window, had two small hard beds instead of a big one, which is what paid for. The manager refused to give me my money back. In short, terrible experience. Wifi doesnt reach the rooms at all
Review 39:Location is relatively good
Review 40:Bedroom, there's no bathroom, you have to share it with others. The door of the bedroom was very noisy. Wifi didn't arrive in the bedrooms so you couldn't get connected. Way too expensive for the price.
Review 41:Wifi connection was good, but it only works in the common areas.
Review 42:The cabin was extemely small and shabby. We did not have internet connection in our room.
Review 43:We really enjoyed the location of the ship and the view from the cabin was exceptional. The breakfast was good too.
Review 44:A quirky but fun experience and really handy for the town centre and the Andre Rieu concert in the square. Not the most comfortable bed and the cabin was small, but everything worked and it was exactly as expected.
Review 45:The shower area was a bit cramped. Although the price you couldn't really complain. And i was only ther for one night.
Review 46:The bed was very comfortable. and it was only a short walk to the main area of maastricht.
Review 47:Very basic accommodation with small cabin & shower + leaking toilet but only a small boat & can't expect The Ritz for the price!
Review 48:Having drinks on board; price particulatly as it included breakast; good location; friendly staff.
Review 49:Would have liked to know that the 'shared bathroom' was a communal shower in the lobby, some distance from my upstairs cabin, and I would not have paid 7 euros for the breakfast
Review 50:Unusual to have a marine experience in the heart of the city
Review 51:thin walls, no soap in cabins, Internet only at the reception. You get a decent bed to sleep on but the price for the night is quite high for the conditions you get
Review 52:location is good. Staff is nice
Review 53:well, being a boat of course the beds were a bit small, but nice and soft. And if you choose a cabin without toilet you may need to walk a bit to get to use one.
Review 54:Really enjoyed staying on a boat, very conveniently located near shoppin streets. Nice veranda to sit outside to eat my breakfast with great view over the river. Indoors bar area also good, nice big TV, fast Wi-Fi. Very cozy somehow.
Review 55:That I didn't stay longer Must have cash to check in (which is fine because you get notified of this) Beds are not suited to long-legged Dutchies - but at 167cm I slept fine
Review 56:So easy to find Centrally located close to winkelcentrum, cafes a 4 min walk, on the river, opposite a park and cathedral/museum Quiet Very clean Comfy bed Novel accomodation type (boat) Breakfast was simple but lekker Simple accomodation - not overdone and just what you need when visiting Maastricht
Review 57:No wifi below deck, no breakfast during the week for the same price as a weekend, bedrooms were small and uncomfortable beds, toilet was in the shower so when you go up in the night your feet would get wet.
Review 58:Free breakfast one of our nights, friendly staff, nice view, had a bar and outdoor deck to go with the view
Review 59:small bed, everything small, very noisy, tv in the lounge/breakfast room with only football/soccer, expensive breakfast with no free choice of what you put on your plate.
Review 60:friendly staff, good knowledge of foreign languages, nice boat ambiance, nice clean room, not too expensive and great location on the river, very near the centre of Maastricht.
Review 61:The location close to the old town is ideal and the staff were great, accommodating requests for an early breakfast and secure storage for my bicycle.
Review 62:The staff is unfriendly. The shower was scalding hot, with no valve to add cold water. The bed was not great. The breakfast was a joke -- boiled eggs, some slices of cheese and ham -- so you would be best not to have breakfast on the boat.
Review 63:The location is convenient to a very nice section of Maastricht.
Review 64:Wifi is just in the at the restaurant.
Review 65:Botel has great location, it`s in the city centre and it`s very easy to reach it from central train station. Also St. Pieter fort is very close. Botel has great atmosphere.
Review 66:Everything is a bit smaller on the boat and sometimes it can get very hot in the room. Privacy is also limited, people can see into your room unless you lower the blinds on both windows, which makes the room dark. Doors cannot be locked from inside.
Review 67:Good location, cleaning every day and good breakfast.
Review 68:Staff are unpleasant, the rooms are stark, heavy smell of air freshener to mask bad smells, alarms go off because of guests smoking in their rooms, wifi cut off when person at reception leaves, cold and uncomfortable facilities. Even with the low price, it still feels like a rip-off.
Review 69:Checking out.
Review 70:The beds are small, shower and room are outdated, but functional, very noisy around midnight, so don't expect to sleep early. Breakfast is 7 euro per day and you need to pay separately for it.
Review 71:nice, simple and clean room. no diesel smell, beautiful location with great view, near city center, no sea sickness. Breakfast was simple but ok. Staff is nice and speak a lot of foreign languages.
Review 72:Rooms very small Private bath was adequate but it was a "wet" shower meaning like a small camper.
Review 73:Location on the river Friendliness of the staff Deck
Review 74:The room was too small. There was a double bed which is only slightly bigger than a single bed. The bed was short too. It was absolutely not for two people. The room was cold as a consequence of being on the river. There was no wi-fi signal in the room even though it was only about 15 meters to the lobby area.
Review 75:fantastic, kind and helpful staff. lovely and very clean. very quiet, beautiful views - it was especially lovely staying on a boat as I was close to everything while being tucked away in an idillic and very serene setting. sitting on the deck at night I got to enjoy all of the stars, the moon and a great view of maastricht at night, something I wouldn't have had staying anywhere else. really excellent and kind staff, and while the room was simple, it was clean and very comfortable. The main dining area/bar/lounge is very peaceful, beautifully decorated, and comfortable - and the novelty of staying on a boat was great! On my next trip to Maastricht I will definably stay here!
Review 76:Tea/Coffee was expensive for the size they serve.
Review 77:We arrived quite late and they still received us friendly, explaining everything and also told us rhe breakfast was included! The toilets are very clean and the room small and cosy, it was lovely! I will definitely recommend it. Thanks for everything!
Review 78:At our arrival the staff was not really friendly! Our room was cold and dirty! Smells of sewage water in the room! The walls are so fine I could hear the phone from the guys next door vibrating!!!! Breakfast was nice but we were still hungry after it . Some of the stuff was really nice while some seem so unhappy to work there and really didn't make us feel Welkom! Really disappointed by the experience! Oh and free wifi.... Yeah but only at the bar! We had no signal in our room!!!!
Review 79:Breakfast was good
Review 80:The staff was amazingly kind and helpful. Good value for money, romantic atmosphere with river view: keep in mind that you are on a boat so rooms are tiny and steps are very steep. The common area was very relaxing and wifi always working properly. Nice stay :)
Review 81:Bed was a little small, especially for tall partner but can be expected in a boat hotel ! Nothing much I didn't like
Review 82:Friendly staff! Very welcoming and lovely complimentary breakfast
Review 83:The shower was also the toilet. It was very compact. Maybe that's an advantage. There was a tap for warm water and one got cold water, but I didn't know how to mix them. Eggs were not complementary.
Review 84:The staff was really friendly and let us play titanic on the deck. The artwork was magnificent.
Review 85:- just one bathroom for the entire botel - no wifi on the room, just in the reception
Review 86:- it´s a boat, very romantic for couples - nice location - two guys of the staff were very kind and helpfull (other one not so much)
Review 87:Very expensive parking, not so close as promised. Fair breakfast. Room is tiny and uncomfortable. WiFi is available in lobby only. Window lock was broken and cold air draft flowed right over the bed.
Review 88:Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 89:No parking. Nearest parking is a 5-10 minute walk. Length of bed was too short. I'm 6'1 tall and had to sleep at angle. Even though check out was 11am, I got woke up at 9am to next door's cabin being dismantled by workers.
Review 90:Location was good. Staff look after you and have very good knowledge of area.
Review 91:Only one toilet and shower for everyone.
Review 92:had a great stay, the view from my room was to kill form, breath taking of the light bridge at night during Christmas!
Review 93:It is a boat, so some may not like the small cabins. Booking.com is not clear about breakfast inclusion. Also, Booking.com would not let me add another person so we had some confusion upon our arrival, but it was easily fixed.
Review 94:Marc and the staff are fabulous. Everyone was SO nice! The bed was the most comfortable I've slept on, but some might think it a little hard. The comforter was fabulously warm and cozy, high quality. Price is a great value for Maastricht and it is really fun to sleep on a boat.
Review 95:Ideally located close to the old town and not too far from the train station. Rooms are a bit small - (its a boat!) but its a good value place to stay, the staff are friendly and the breakfast is good too.
Review 96:Our suite or villa they called it was smelly and not very clean. Beds were uncomfortable. They should replace them.
Review 97:Location was really good. Staff was Nice not fancy. Good thing that The front desk was 24h open.
Review 98:It was like staying in a prison cell. Room was incredibly tiny, loud noises all night, tiny double bed, could hear everyone very loudly, 1 dirty shower for whole hotel, dirty, smelled like mold, too expensive for quality, door handle falling off. Our room was under the toilet and we could hear it all night. 0 stars.
Review 99:Breakfast
Review 100:Great central and quiet location, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful views from the room and bar. Unique experience (you have to take into consideration that it's an older botel, thaen you can't be disappointed)
Review 101:I was at a concert so wasn't back until 2 am, getting in the locked gate wasn't as speedy as it could have been. One of the songs played at the concert i attended was "these walls are thin" this summed it up well as i could clearer here the heavy sleeping guy next door!
Review 102:smooth check in. Room is small but the bed firm & comfortable. Shower fine also. The bar/terrace area is a nice quiet spot to chill with a drink if you have the time..
Review 103:small and very simple rooms -it's, actually, was expected, but it's absolutely not so much job to make them nicer. Now the rooms looks almost like chambers in prison
Review 104:Placement, city, boat atmosphere, personnel is very good!
Review 105:The sound from the central heating system. Impossible to keep it running while sleeping. Never think to take breakfast at 10h32min so on. When breakfast is over it is over! aren't they aware that some people may come from countries far away and may have jet lag syndrom !
Review 106:The room was quite good. Everything was clean.
Review 107:This is my second time sleeping on a boat and I enjoyed every minute from my stay. We were having double bed in the cabin which was perfect. Nice room for budget stay!
Review 108:The sink in the room was a helpful thing, however balancing hot/cold water was difficult due to 2 separate pipes for hot and cold water.
Review 109:I liked the location and the conditions a lot. If you are ready for the boat experience then you find that Botel Maastricht has all the facilities you need. It has a large bed for couples, has good shower, WCs, heating. Its cozy and has WiFi. A bar and a free breakfast on weekends.
Review 110:As I wrote, the interior is very old and run down, so a renovation would be a good idea. The bathroom was very tiny, with the shower simply built in between the toilet and the washing basin. There is minimal space and they had to use the space there is. Another thing is that the walls are really thin, so you hear everything your neighbours do or say.
Review 111:I really enjoyed my stay at Botel Maastricht, even though there were some features I wouldn't have accepted when staying at a usual hotel. But this is a houseboat, and so it's a bit different! Staff were utterly friendly and nice, and my room was small, but ok for one person. Although everything was quite old and run down, it was very clean. I totally loved the atmosphere on the boat and the view of the Maas river from my window - so relaxed! After staying here for two nights, I felt as if I had been on a long holiday! Moreover: Fast wifi in the common room/bar, and my room was already done and ready for me when I arrived at 10.00AM in the morning, which was great!
Review 112:Very basic washing facilities ( no sink plug) and not even a chair in cabin, and no bedside light switch ; no ladder to top bunk. Things which could be easily improved.
Review 113:Location, low cost, nice breakfast.. Very clean and shipshape.
Review 114:The parking for the car is across the street in town and during the day you have to pay for parking. Only free after 6pm. Not far, but not next to the Botel
Review 115:If you can't do steep stairs, it's not for you. The rooms are cabins from an older boat. If you want 5 star quality, it is not for you. You can sit and watch the barges go past. The staff is fantastic, they got up and made me breakfast at 6:30
Review 116:The combined toilet and shower took a bit of getting used to, but you are on a boat and space is at a premium.
Review 117:A really cozy cabin with a comfortable bed and great breakfast the next morning.
Review 118:It's not the most comfortable hostel ever, and there is only one shower.
Review 119:Sleeping on a boat is just something different, it's lovely to wake up and see the River. It's also close to the city center!
Review 120:Everything ! I mean it was stinky, very small, noisy, much to expansive for the room. Even I came back later after a party night I really could not sleep more then 4 hour. I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible .
Review 121:Nothing at all! Is close to the center but that's it !
Review 122:This Hotel is horrible. The smell of damp in the hallways is overwhelming. The rooms are small and dirty and looked like they have not been renovated since medieval times. The man on reception (daytime) was slow and rather abrupt. After about 2 minutes we decided that there was no way we could stay in this place. We found a hostel nearby, after going door to door, which was simple and clean.
Review 123:We liked nothing about this place.
Review 124:No Wi-Fi in the room and there's a lot of noise when it rains.
Review 125:It is really fun to stay on a boat, and since it's fixed to the ground, you don't really get all the cons of real boats, like seasickness. You can get double rooms for a really low price and it's right in the centre of the city.
Review 126:Nice idea, basically a backpackers on a boat only a little moregrimey. Tiny rooms, and the bad smell remains, withmorethan a fewplumbing and dampness issues in room. Good location and for thenovelty value. Some of older staff are not interested in making aneffort with their young guests. 2 euro for a tea bag? Only thecleaners and other guests were pleasant.
Review 127:- very small rooms. - the window was broken, it was hard to open it so it was pretty hot in the room - wifi only works at reception - bathroom
Review 128:- experience of sleeping on the boat - breakfast and bar at entrance
Review 129:Staff very engaging and approachable Great central location with front seat view of the traffic of the river Mall rooms clean but small Very good value for dollar
Review 130:Our sheets/duvets were not clean (my son found a bookmark in his from a prior guest). There were spider webs and spiders everywhere. Smokers outside our windows prevented us from getting any air in our room. Bathrooms were gross.
Review 131:Location and staff. Price was good.
Review 132:If you really need a shower in the morning before work, make sure you choose a room which has it included. only one shower is shared. breakfast a bit expensive for what you get.
Review 133:Great location, excellent staff very friendly. Excellent sleep.
Review 134:The boat itself was a bit grubby looking and in need of a good deep clean and some new paint. The tired look overall probably made it seem more grubby than it actually was. There is only one shower and toilet and it was not on our floor so had to go upstairs in the middle of the night to use the toilet. These problems would not prevent me going there again.
Review 135:Perfect location beside city center on a lovely river. Staff helpful and friendly in every way. Lovely boat with lots of relaxation areas and a very large sundeck. Bed linen immaculate. Great atmosphere and friendly other guests. Everyone happy to mix. Would definitely go again.
Review 136:Expensive to park in nearby public car parks. It cost us €25 for the night. The cabins are a little shabby and the boat is quite noisy as people move around on it
Review 137:Fantastic location in the centre of Maastricht.
Review 138:Its a bit of a surprise when you first get into your cabin as they are small but we had a shower too so this was a bonus.
Review 139:Staff were really helpful and you were made to feel welcome. On day of check out we had a nice breakfast and then asked if we could take more coffee onto the deck. We were given more coffee (no charge) and told to stay as long as we'd like to. Great stay on a budget or an adventure!
