Reviews for Hotel Real d Obidos
Review 1:Staff was friendly and accommodating. The Hotel has a good atmosphere. The bedroom was a good size. Though they give you two twin mattresses pushed together, rather than an actual double bed. The location was great, just outside the Castle walls in Obidos. The Parking garage is small, but it's nice to have a location off the street to park.
Review 2:Older frontdesk staff (male) unfriendly. We were awoken by loud sounds (hotel function) at midnight for which we could have been forewarned. When discussing it at the time and the next day at checkout, front desk staff seemed quite indifferent. Though younger front desk staff was very professional on arrival, the same cannot not be said about this staff member.
Review 3:Great location, lovely breakfast and facilities, younger staff very welcoming and accommodating. Original décor.
Review 4:Room not up to standard. Smelled musty and damp. Marks on sheets. Bed uncomfortable. Asked for another room and request was denied. Booked and paid for 2 night's only stayed 1.
Review 5:Buffet breakfast was very good.
Review 6:Very good locale and the staff are super nice and speak excellent English....this was our 3rd stay with them. This is a first rate hotel in Obidos.
Review 7:The mattress was very hard and uncomfortable. The bulky keys were very noisy to open doors, we could hear everyone on our floor going into their rooms.
Review 8:Location was great. Wonderful breakfast
Review 9:None
Review 10:Anything you could think of is great there! Very authentic, great breakfast, unbeatable location, private parking. Be prepared to walk uphill a lot. But it is all worth it! Highly recommended.
Review 11:Room key is a joke. Please change that. Room is very basic and dark (medieval theme, I get it) but enough if you don't plan to spend too much time on it.
Review 12:Pillows flimsy and lacking in substance. Kind of darkish in the hallways and outdated decor.
Review 13:Great location just barely outside the town wall, easy street parking literally a few steps away from the hotel lobby. I don't see any reason to stay inside the town walls due to the narrow streets and parking anxiety in there. Room was generous size. Bathroom was huge, plenty of counter space, bathroom lighting above average for Europe. This is not a luxury hotel, but comfortable, clean, and certainly nice enough for a one night stay.
Review 14:The coffee at breakfast was terrible: please put in a coffee machine, the eggs were like rubber
Review 15:The staff were really excellent, polite, pleasant, helpful and informative
Review 16:Shower was a bit average - the plumber should make a visit. (The water was hot however)
Review 17:Parking (paid but you could actually park there.) Very short walk (but uphill of course) to the Town. We had a nice view from the room. Reasonable breakfast. And lots of Character.
Review 18:No hot drink facilities in the room
Review 19:Great location particularly if you are driving as it is easy to get to but takes you just outside the castle walls. Very medieval in style but with modern creature comforts. Best breakfast we had in Portugal!
Review 20:Room wasn't ready when we arrived and initial reception was not particularly friendly.
Review 21:Great view from bedroom, interesting quirky building, nice pool. Great location.
Review 22:The bed is too hard and the cost for the kid's extra bed excessive. Personally, I find the staff disguised in medieval clothes weird.
Review 23:Great location and friendly staff. Nice rooftop pool with great views of the castle and walls. Yummy breakfast, good coffee and home made cakes.
Review 24:1. This is not a 4 star hotel, something in between 2 and 3 2. The smell in the hotel, dark colors and poor attempts to create a feeling of being in somewhat medieval with a mixture of stuff from varios not related epochs 3. The staff was rather formal, more warm approach would be good 4. Too massive and inconvenient key from the room
Review 25:Fair breakfast Location right near the wall Nice small restaurant nearby right at the entrance to the old town
Review 26:Well situated hotel right outside the walls of Obidos, with free garage parking. Nice pool and terrace with view of town. Large, attractive rooms decorated in peroid fashion.
Review 27:Great location just outside the medieval city wall, easy to drive there (not the case for anything inside the wall) and parking in garage. Great view from outside pool. Charming hotel with a different design for of the two rooms we had, according to the Queen or king it is dedicated to (small picture outside each room). The whole Hotel has a royal and medieval touch to it with many old artifacts displayed, and big room keyes in a long chain. Great breakfast!
Review 28:The reception staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was really good. The hotel is in a very convenient location. Our room had been redecorated recently, and we really enjoyed our stay.
Review 29:After staying in newer boutique hotels in Lisbon, Evora and Seville, it was quite a different experience - on the not so good side.
Review 30:The hotel is an authentic visit to the medieval past.
Review 31:It’s more commercial than most places we stayed at in Portugal. They offer towels that you can use by the pool, but they are 2.50 euros per day. They sell their bathrobes in the lobby, but don’t supply them in the room.
Review 32:Our room was large and comfortable and had a wonderful view of the outer walls and a lovely church right in front of the hotel. Yes, you are outside the city walls, but the old city extends beyond the walls and the hotel is in the old city. Actually the best is to be in the old city but not inside the walls so that you have the charm without the inconvenience of driving inside the walled area and finding a gate to get in or out. Our room was quiet. The pool area was nice. The medieval theme was a little hokey, but we liked it. The enormous heavy iron room key was hilarious. The buffet breakfast was good. The indoor parking was convenient.
Review 33:No issues at all. Great breakfast and very nice location.
Review 34:Everything is so unique and nice . We have not seen any place so carefully designed with so many details about medieval theme.
Review 35:Reception was so welcoming. Free underground parking. Their recommendations for rest.aurants was great, especially the one just inside the wall 2 or 3 minutes walk. Everything about the place was charming. A REAL FIND.
Review 36:The room smells old and musty. The water in the bathtub does not drain well. The desk & chair in the room are not suitable for using a computer.
Review 37:They have a garage where you can park your car. Easy walk to the old town.
Review 38:Obidos is spectacular but the restaurants we tried we not and both were recommended by the hotel.
Review 39:This is really fine hotel with good rooms and a fine breakfast
Review 40:The location is very good, next to one of the entrances to the castle. The hotel has a medieval theme with decorations and staff's uniforms. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, breakfast was very good, wifi was excellent, staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 41:- WiFi a little bit slow at our room, but still okay
Review 42:- Great interior design - very friendly and helpful staff - very good off-season rate - location is great, just a jump of a cat to lovely Obidos
Review 43:Obidos is just a big tourist stop filled with shops, a place where large tour buses drop off large groups of tourists who then spend their time shopping. What a disappointment in an otherwise beautiful country rich in history. This hotel has a great location if you decide to go, but it doesn't merit four stars. Wifi was weak to non-existent. Their public computer is possibly the slowest computer still around. (We used it to print out boarding passes.) And the comments by other reviewers about a strange and unpleasant smell are accurate.
Review 44:The bed was comfortable. The Superior Double Room was ample in size. The breakfast buffet was out of this world!
Review 45:Small points rooms quite small but adequate. No restaurant in hotel, we went out of season so not much choice where to eat.
Review 46:Friendly staff, lovely open fire in the lounge. great choice for breakfast.
Review 47:I'd like to live in the hotel forever, but I can'T.
Review 48:I was looking forward to writing this review because our stay at thishotel was probably the best experience I've had in all my yearstravelling through Europe.First of all, they have managed to create the most charming hotel atmosphere, playing off the Medieval history of the town, without it feeling in-genuine or gimmicky. The room we stayed in was the prettiest thing I've ever seen - I lived out a life long dream of sleeping in a four post bed. The room was huge, and had a very spacious bathroom with a much appreciated heater inside (given that we went in February). I spent more time in that hotel room than I probably should have but I think it might be the cutest place on earth. The staff were incredible. They went out of their way to be helpful and are available at the desk 24/7 which was a great resource. We ordered breakfast in bed for only 5 Euro one morning because it was my birthday and it was also adorable. ADORABLE. And very delicious! The buffet is also fantastic. The location is perfect. The keys they give you are ginormous, which are slightly inconveniencing but also right on point. WIFI was a bit slow but pretty good considering I kept thinking I was living in the 15th century. You will be making a mistake if you book anywhere else in Obidos.
Review 49:Breakfast offerings were a bit tired.
Review 50:Staff was extremely helpful. Good suggestions on dining options and sights in Obidos. Wine and drinks served in lovely lobby/great room.
Review 51:Wonderful location and most comfortable room. Breakfast was extensive and delicious. Highly recommend staying at this colorful historic area of Portugal.
Review 52:Bed was too noisy!
Review 53:Staff, private parking space and breakfast. Unfortunately I couldn't enjoy the swimingpool area because was raining, but it looked beautiful.
Review 54:Everything. The city, the people are great, the portuguese are great, and the food. Portugal is the best. Obidos is very very beautifull. And the hotel is very very nice!!
Review 55:The room key is huge and heavy, banging on the door; when neighbours came back, we would wake up. We kept hearing a laundry machine running, during inconvenient hours.
Review 56:Location Own garage
Review 57:Lights in bedroom were not good for reading. Rooms were quite noisy.
Review 58:Very convenient location. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Period theme (if you like that sort of thing)
Review 59:The key for the bedroom door is too big and clumsy.no door bell on main door.I waited 30 minutes one evening before the night porter opened the main door.
Review 60:Can't think of anything
Review 61:Easy access to hotel from the road, being able to garage car. Staff were very welcoming and helpful with good recommendations where to eat. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choices and always topping up if things were getting low. The hotel is in an excellent position for exploring this beautiful walled town. Park your car and walk.
Review 62:I was pleased with everything.
Review 63:Excellent value, very good location, extremely clean, and with a friendly staff. The hotel has a very nice pool with a beatiful view of the medieval walls, and of part of the city. An enjoyable walk towards the castle, although uphill. Close to the main street, where most of the stores and restaurants are located. Very good breakfast. I definitely recommend a visit to Obidos and the Hotel Real d'Obidos.
Review 64:the big kee of the room is very big and inconvenient although it was part of the medieval atmosphere
Review 65:A nice hotel with unique atmosphere of medieval period
Review 66:slow wi fi
Review 67:great views from walls, great restaurants at your door step. Hotel was decorated in theme with old castle. Lovely pool. Couldn't ask for better
Review 68:The place is very convenient to the castle of Obidos. The hotel is clean, well staffed and very comfortable. A good place to stay. The breakfast was good. It's located right at the base of the castle wall. You walk out the front door of the hotel turn left and you are looking at the entry to the castle.
Review 69:Constantly struggled with key, the old giant key. Main sitting area in side was dark.
Review 70:Staff was very helpful and welcoming, with good suggestions for dinner. Views were spectacular, outdoor areas, including pool were delightful. Breakfast was wonderful, quite a spread in a beautiful room. Comfortable room. Parking in garage
Review 71:Lovely hotel beautiful decor, matched the feel of the city with antique furniture, armour and arms decorating the hotel. Nothing middle ages about the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms. It was perfect
Review 72:I thought the 35 euro for the washing was a bit steep.
Review 73:This hotel is not 50 meters from an entrance to the castle wall. It has parking which looks to be a hassle if you stay inside the walls. Great breakfast. The staff were very helpful and even organised a small load of our washing. I would only stay in this hotel if ever I came back.
Review 74:We were given room 113 by the manager of the hotel when we arrived early even though he knew the room had a musty/mold smell problem. When we complained they said they had no other room and brought a small deodorizer to mask the smell- which it didn't. Also the $5 charge for a towel for the pool was a little outrageous.
Review 75:Great breakfast, pool, location, and large room
Review 76:Would have liked the hotel to have done evening meals.
Review 77:Swimming pool and terrace overlooking the castle wall. Staff were great, very helpful. Breakfast consisted of everything you could think of and was constantly replenished, the fresh fruit in particular was lovely. Fantastic location.
Review 78:Hotel's personal is not particularly kind. At arrival no information was given on what to see in Obidos except a tiny map, and we were not informed that the same day there was a medieval fair in the city. During our stay, a trivial request to get another bath towel arose a really inacceptable conversation with the woman working at the reception (perhaps she thought that we tried to steal towels?).
Review 79:A special place, as there is an attempt to give medieval atmosphere with all the decoration and furnitures. We got a comfortable and relatively large room (but without mini-bar, mostly in rooms in Portugal at this price - 100 euros per night - there is one!).
Review 80:Nothing I can say we didn't like about the hotel.
Review 81:Location was very good, not far from Obidos Lagoon which is beautiful beach, great location for the village lots of history. Staff friendly hotel very clean. Nice pool area, self service honesty bar with excellent range of drinks.
Review 82:Some of the staff were a bit brusque (when telling me my car was parked over the line, for example), others very friendly. Old fashioned keys/locks were hard to work. Charged for pool towels.
Review 83:Reasonable cost, just outside the walls of the town, available parking. Decor. Breakfast.
Review 84:Due to the wooden floors and the size of the door keys it was too noisy in the mornings while still sleeping, also the weather apparently is almost always overcast which makes it cold in summer.
Review 85:Nice place and location.
Review 86:Outside of castle walls made it easy to find and easy to park. Steps away from a gateway in the wall made the centre just a few minutes walk away. Old building with medieval docour and modern amenities. Pool with great views. Good breakfast. Lovely room with four poster bed and view of the castle. Couldnt fault it.
Review 87:Breakfast buffet was good, except for the hot options.
Review 88:Charming hotel in a very picturesque village. Excellent location to explore the walled town. Staff helped us with reasonably priced, excellent restaurants and sightseeing tips. Very comfortable beds in spacious room with huge bathroom. Free parking. Super views of countryside from the doors opening onto quiet inner patio.
