Reviews for Zenden Design Hotel
Review 1:It defenitly needs a real proper clean up! All white apartment is very easily stained making it look a bit grubby and therefor looses it luxory touch! Shower was clogged during our whole stay. The bed was not that comfortable as it just a plain box spring with a top cover on it which was a bit small. Would have preferred a small oven but that's just me.
Review 2:Absolute superb location! Lovely design apartment. Spacious room.
Review 3:I found the studio very stylish yet comfortable, private and peaceful. Nice urban view from the window. Especially loved the little kitchen and the effort put in the small details such as good quality coffee and shower gel, shampoo etc.
Review 4:I couldn't find any Guest Hotel Slippers, unsure if they were included, but would be a nice addition due to the plain floors due to the decor of the Hotel.
Review 5:The swimming pool was a nice addition to this Hotel. Great to relax after a long walk around Maastrict. We stayed in Studio 5, very spacious, with an easy walking distance to great bars and resturants in the local area.
Review 6:The noise insulation between rooms is not very effective. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood which is why I chose it, but unfortunatedly, you could hear the people in the room next to you as if they were in yours.
Review 7:Good location, nice service, flexible with breakfast time, good facilities
Review 8:I received quite an angry phone call a couple of hours after I left, accusing me of leaving without checking out, without paying and without leaving my key. The call ended with an abrupt "That's ok", but no apology, when I pointed out that I had a receipt to prove I had checked out and paid, and left my key at the same time.
Review 9:The location was perfect and was in a beautiful old building.
Review 10:No sofa or soft furnishings. Guests don't want to sit in a dining chair all the time. The stairs to the top floor were very narrow and steep. Since there was no lift, this could be a problem for elderly or disabled guests. Same with the spiral staircase to the bedroom. The tv should be in the lounge not in the bedroom.
Review 11:We chose a studio (No 7) which was superb. Plenty of room with a mezzanine level bedroom. The dishwasher, oven and fridge freezer were very welcome. Nice location in the city centre. Central but peaceful at this time of year.
Review 12:Although the apartment (in Cortenstraat) is huge, with two toilets and a laundry, it is not set up for a longer term stay or business trips. For example there is no washing machine, the kitchenware is missing some common items (had to buy some utensils) and there is no desk, although a desk is advertised on the website and there is plenty of empty space. The only place to work is the kitchen benchtop, on bar stools, but no wi-fi in the kitchen. We were offered an apartment swap, but this one only had a dining/kitchen table and inadequate work lighting, as well as being on a busier street with traffic noise. The all white interior makes it difficult to keep clean - floor cleaning is done once a week, although linen, which is plentiful, is changed every 2 days.
Review 13:Location is fantastic - a few minutes walk from all the cafes, shops, historical sites, parks and Onze Lieve Vrouwe square, where all the locals go to eat and watch the world go by. Note that the studios are in several different locations. Cortenstraat is quiet and apparently in one of the best areas in town. The apartment was designed after a well known architect, who does everything in white....some designer pieces, with an excellent Grohe shower.
Review 14:With the price per night in mind, I would have expected a more luxurious experience. The breakfast is nice, but not very extensive, the room is nice but have no special facilities, the pool in the hotel is taken over by kids every day, so a nice swim i the morning is not an option, the gym is a deserted room where they keep the luggage.
Review 15:The staff is very friendly, relaxed and helpful, the room (we stayed at the 'Wow room') is nice and specious.
Review 16:To keep the kitchen tidy was difficult as there was only one small, slightly dirty looking, towel.
Review 17:We stayed here for the second time. We really like the appartment we stayed in. The location can not get much better.
Review 18:We stayed in a studio in a street close to the main building. The location is excellent in the centre of the city! It couldn,t have been better when visiting our son, who is studying at the Maastricht University. Small restaurants and shops are located nearby. We had a fantastic vacation and the hotel made a part of it.
Review 19:Nothing. Just a warning: the studio was on the top floor without elevator.
Review 20:Great location in the center of the city, quiet at night. Spacious studio, modern furniture, clean.
Review 21:Toilet wasn't thoroughly cleaned on arrival :( if tall the toilet poses a challenge in the superior room- perhaps go for suite
Review 22:Location, staff, bed, tastefully designed, design pool was a lovely bonus, l'Occitan cosmetics :)
Review 23:having no reception after a certain time for check in is odd, but if you look past this, it's a great place to stay. It can be quite noisy given the stark interior so bare this in mind if a light sleeper - didn't bother us, but it needs to be considered.
Review 24:Location is perfect and the minimalist design is great.
Review 25:Friendly staff, lovely swimming pool in basement but restricted use. We were there for two nights attending Andre Riu Concert. Second night was more expensive obviously because of popularity of Concert. Would certainly stay there again. 5 minutes from station by taxi.
Review 26:We are really pleased with our studio apartment in the Zenden Design Hotel. Everything is white…..quite different. It has grown on us over the week and we are now thoroughly enjoying the amazing location in the old town near the river, parks, remnants of the old city wall and historic buildings. The hotel also has the most amazing swimming pool located in a 700 year old vaulted cellar and we have been enjoying a swim each morning, early, before the multitude arrive. Getting our luggage up the 41 stairs when we arrived was the biggest challenge… and walking up and down them whenever we come and go! We have made good use of the cooking facilities, making salads and our own breakfasts. And we have air conditioning which has been just the best thing in the extreme heat we are experiencing. Yesterday it was 38 degrees!
Review 27:Separate entrance to the room from the other side of the building nt from the reception. Made it awkward to go to the pool as we had to cross half of the street for it
Review 28:Beautiful design, swimming pool, spacipus bathroom and a terrace.
Review 29:Pillows were reeeally bad for sleeping (huge).
Review 30:Location was too perfect. Studio was veeery spatious and had lots of closets so it's really tidy. Well equipped. Staff polite. I'd choose the place again.
Review 31:The covered swimming pool was 500mts away from our studio so I ended up not going..
Review 32:The style of the studio was really cool, modern and minimalistic. Our taste! Really liked it. I could access the covered swimming pool at certain "off-lessons" hrs and enjoy yoga and other lessons.
Review 33:Whilst the promo says there is no lift and the stairs are narrow no one says there are 60 stairs to climb to get into the unit and a further 12 to get up to the bedroom!! The stairs to the bedroom are dangerous particularly if you need to use the toilet at night as there is no complete railing to hold on to whilst going down. The room had not been cleaned properly, management arranged an extra clean to get the room up to scratch. It is most inconvenient to learn that your room is a 5 minute walk from the reception, which is not manned after 3pm on a Saturday! Then through crowded streets, carry your suitcases to your unit, then lug them up 60 steps! Most unsatisfactory introduction to your unit.
Review 34:The location was great and the size of the unit was good
Review 35:Clean, well equipped and quiet, great location and perfect for the city, whilst off the main streeta. Welcoming and helpful people, and a good breakfast.
Review 36:I found the studio a bit 'sparse' and minimalist and, not being very tall, I felt that I was in a room for giants!! The cupboards were difficult to open! I think a microwave would be useful in the kitchen.
Review 37:Great position within easy walking distance of lively Maastricht. The studio was in a quiet location. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 38:Can't comment on breakfast, as we didn't have it. But everything else was perfect
Review 39:We stayed in a gorgeous studio, rather than the main hotel. Beautifully refurbished loft, with a very high quality of detail in the decor. Very swish conversion!
Review 40:The staff were very helpful and happy to sort out any problem.
Review 41:The outside was misleading but the inside had been completely modernised. Very comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Review 42:We had the top floor suite in the building behind the hotel itself. It had nice views out both windows (the river on one side, the town with a church on the other). All the amenities are well maintained. We were pleasantly surprised by all the great food in Maastricht. Take the recommendations given by the hotel on their pamphlet. We only stayed one night and wished we had stayed longer.
Review 43:The Zenden is unique in decor but traditional in good service and cleanliness. Excellent location to old town and amenities. We will return to the Zenden when in Maastricht.
Review 44:Staff is incompetent in giving directions. Wifi is problematic - not usable. No TV or phone in Studio. Bathroom is very basic and no hot water in the morning. Will cost you 25 Euro per day to park car, and its 6-8 minutes away. Many better choices in Maastricht!
Review 45:Nice room and clean studio
Review 46:All walls and door frames need a good clean. No mirror above washbasin (makes traditional shaving interesting!).
Review 47:Excellent bed with great view over the Maas. Privacy - our room was not overlooked as situated on top floor (number 7).
Review 48:Studio has cook top but not enough dishes. Had to ask reception for few things but we got everything we asked for.
Review 49:Great place, beautiful swimming pool. Hotel is close to shopping streets and restaurants
Review 50:Slippery floor surface, badly designed bathroom facilities with stupid taps and sinks that would not drain. The very steep and narrow stairway with crumbling paint is no too inviting either.
Review 51:Great location and fairly helpful people.
Review 52:The reception and main area of the hotel smelled of chlorine, because there is a pool downstairs.
Review 53:Very friendly and helpful staff who made you feel very welcome! Location could not be better. Great value for money!
Review 54:Personally I would like a clock in the room, but really nothing I didn't like.
Review 55:The hotel was clean n fresh with excellent facilities. Lovely breakfast. Perfect location Inside the city walls. Love it so much we want return next year for the Amstel gold race again
Review 56:I arrived late at 10 pm. I knew that there was no staff available. At the reception there was an enveloppe for me saying that my room was in another building two Streets down the road in the Cortenstraat. I was very disappointed since, for personal reasons, I specifically wanted to stay at the St Bernardus street location. They should have told me up front. I would have booked a different hotel if I had known.
Review 57:- room was spacious and OK - free WiFi worked well
Review 58:Although the studio we stayed was fully equipped in terms of devices and amenities we could not find knifes, forks and spoons in to use in the studio!
Review 59:Very good location, welcoming staff.
Review 60:A bit tricky and narrow stairs, especially with luggage. Noise from from street and from some other side of the building
Review 61:Helpfull staff and spacefull room
Review 62:The rooms are comfy if not very big. The designer furniture and the Zen attitude is very nice. The whole "Zen" concept is not always understood by some guests who are noisy in the halls. Maybe the staff could just hint at that during check-in?
Review 63:No Internet, the reception is in another building. The parking is rather expensive. Some important accessories in the furniture of the bathroom are missing like a soap holder for example.
Review 64:The location
Review 65:The white design is not functional and can make it look shabby there where stains come to the surface. Bad hair dryer for the level of comfort the hotel should offer. The chlorine smell of the swimming pool is overwhelming in the building, gladly not in the bedrooms.
Review 66:The location is excellent, the staff is friendly and it is quiet.
Review 67:Cleaning are taking some shortcuts. In other hotels you wouldn't notice, but for this price and room design it was just to noticeable. It is absolutely no reason not to go. Amazing hotel!
Review 68:Very big and beautiful room The bed is amazing (auping) Decent breakfast Nice pool
Review 69:The urban room doesn't have a nespresso machine, I missed that but the espresso downstairs in the hotel was perfect.
Review 70:Wheather you stay in a studio or an urban room, they are all very special, not standard. I love the design of the hotel. I feel so at home that I came back for the seventh time!!
Review 71:Map to arrive to studio was not very clear but still this factor does not reduce in any way the practicality and all positive attitudes of this hotel.
Review 72:Very Very spacious... very well maintained and in general very comfortable. Real value for money.Highly recommended.
Review 73:The cost for breakfast was overpriced - just one egg! Couldn't use swimming pool due to lessons going on.
Review 74:W i fi excellent. Great location. Lovely lady serving breakfast in the morning. I managed to check in to my room early.
Review 75:comfort of furniture and bed could have been better
Review 76:This design (eg almost empty) studio suites well for any traveller. Good location and privicy makes ingredients for a pleasant stay in the centre of Maastricht
Review 77:The garbage bin wasn't emptied and there were still empty bottles on the fridge from earlier guests which made us wonder wether the room was cleaned...
Review 78:Location and the clean look of the room.. all in white.. classy
Review 79:Too small and inadequate for a couple with no lounge area and only one chair between 2 people. Not much room for suitcases and limited hanging space. Very bad layout, nowhere to put anything.
Review 80:Location was great, however our friends stayed in one of the Zenden studio apartment which was huge, and had all the facilities that go with an apartment, and cheaper.
Review 81:- Major minus: I don't like the new tendency of internal decoration (I have also met it elsewhere) that states that a bathroom/toilet cannot have a door! Especially if it's next to the bed! - Minor: Swimming pool only available in limited time-strips
Review 82:- Location: ideal, also nice view - Staff: very helpful and effective - In the confirmation of our reservation email, there were already suggestions of where to eat/drink. It helps when you go somewhere you don't know. We tried it and they were right, so no bias I guess - WiFi: I have never experienced so fast (free) wifi in a hotel! - Nespresso machine available in the room
Review 83:the narrow stairs and no elevator. it's hard to take luggage up even to the 1st (would be the 2nd in the US) floor.
Review 84:All. There is nothing not to like except for the narrow stairs and no elevator.
Review 85:Only two small rather dated hand-towel sized towels per person and virtually no hooks or racks to hang a towels in the bathroom, bathroom without ventilation as far as we could tell, only two espresso and two small coffee cups, no decent sized mug for a cup of tea. Be aware that studios are not at the same location as hotel, so if you want to take advantage of the pool you have to walk about a block.
Review 86:Location: directly in the old city but quiet enough to sleep undisturbed, modern clean design of the studio, comfortable bed, very spacious, kitchenette with refigerator and Nespresso maschine.
Review 87:I loved the nice clean white room with the bright light, the way that everything is taken care of in a way that shows style and eye for details. The staff is very nice and helpfull. The studio made me feel being at home rather than staying in a hotel. I"ll surely come back!
Review 88:Small, narrow winding steps to get to room. Swimming pool closed quite early in the eve.
Review 89:Hotel is extremely central, the architecture and style very eye-catching and modern. Loved the basement swimming pool as well as the spacious rooms. Huge bath was an added bonus. Good value for money.
Review 90:The fact that there was no door to the bathroom in the penthouse studio!! Luckily we were staying with 2 other friends who had a studio downstairs (with a bathroom door!) so we shared the privacy of a door but as a group of friends travelling it wasnt exactly ideal! It is the only thing that would put me off returning.
Review 91:The location is suberb, staff very friendly, rooms very spacious & the pool is gorgesous!
Review 92:We stayed in the appertments just behind the hotel. We where on the third floor. But you would be dead when you got up the stairs a whole 69 off them. Never again and we where only fifty not old in my eyes.
Review 93:Location brill very clean
Review 94:We had a Studio Apartment.. was very clean and well maintained, however it felt as though we were living in the Ikea shop for 4 days.
Review 95:Location, Location, Location !looking out onto the River Maas... very close to many Cafes, Bars and Restaurants (Vitloof in particular - excellent !), walking distance (5 mins) to venue for the Andre Rieu Concerts.
Review 96:Our studio was up 3 flights of stairs and it was difficult to get our suitcases up without having to stop for breath. There were no towel rails and nowhere to hang wet towels. The large mirror was smoked glass, and it was impossible to use as a mirror as you couldn't see yourself clearly. The bathroom was quite dark, and the mirror in there had a light covering half of it, so make-up had to be applied sitting at the dining table using a hand mirror. No problem if you don't use make-up!
Review 97:We liked the modern clean lines, and that it was a few minute's walk from Vritjhof Square. It was well appointed with crockery, cutlery, coffee machine etc. and there was plenty of space for clothes. The bed was very comfortable.
Review 98:The only negative is that we were on the top floor which was reached by two narrow winding staircases. The hotel would not be suitable for elderly people or people with walking difficulties as there is no lift.
Review 99:Not a problem for us but there were a lot of stairs. The central location means that the public car park charges are very expensive,€50 for two nights. Not the fault of the hotel but an additional cost to the holiday.
Review 100:Good location and liked the space a studio offers. We were on the top floor with lovely high ceilings and views over the roof tops. It was very quiet but only a short walk to a small cafe lined square.
Review 101:Did not look as good as in the pictures Needed some updating throughout could be cleaner
Review 102:Excellent location Beautiful decoration and design
Review 103:Friedly staff, good location
Review 104:Friendly and helpful staff, great location.
Review 105:The studio 07 bathroom is an oven.
Review 106:The hotel is located in the heart of the city. The bed is very good honestly. studio with design furniture.
Review 107:Nothing bad to say.
Review 108:VBrilliant place to stay. Super city.
Review 109:The location, very close to the centre and the old town. Fantastic
Review 110:The wifi was very slow and some nights did not work at all.
Review 111:Location exelent and also very private
Review 112:Excellent locatie/ friendly staff/ Nice swimmingpool/zeneffect
Review 113:Pool use slightly restricted
Review 114:Excellent location,nice patio
Review 115:Nothing
Review 116:Stayed in a studio , so only visited the hotel for breakfast and a swim.
Review 117:no lift
Review 118:Central location, large studio, air conditioning was welcome as it was very hot.
Review 119:Location and convenience. Great room perfectly described as "Wow".
Review 120:location, staff was helpfull
Review 121:The staff were really lovely and very helpful. The room was amazing and very clean. The choice of food for breakfast was excellent
Review 122:No tea/ coffee making facilities
Review 123:An oasis of calm
Review 124:Swimmingpool. Relaxt atmosphere. Very comfortable.
Review 125:Kamers erg warm.
Review 126:locatie van het hotel is top! zit zo midden in de stad.
Review 127:The staff at the counter should be more customer-friendly
Review 128:Facilities and location were excellent.
Review 129:quality appartment view on the "Maas" central location
