Reviews for Alcazar Hotel & SPA
Review 1:However renewed, it is sill an old fashioned hotel.
Review 2:The hotel was recently renewed so it had "fresh" look. Close to the beach, restaurants and bars.
Review 3:Although it was a thematic suite with a huge balcony, I purchased a normal suite with the wish of being in an upper floor towards the sea. Insolation is not the best, but one has to understand that the building is more than 40 years old. You have to pay for the gym! and the SPA is nice, though expensive! Basics like sauna, indoor swimming pool should be for free. Mini-bar was empty.
Review 4:Very good breakfast for a 4 star hotels. Missing just small goodies! Nice bed. Cool Swimming pool and we had the chance of play tennis per 7.5€ plus 5€ for 2 rackets.
Review 5:Still a very bad coffee for breakfast. We did switch to tea this time and went out for coffee. Does not match the rest of the very good breakfast buffet and a hotel of this class. ( I also left this message at the reception. )
Review 6:Very Good hotel, we have stayed here more than once. Nice personnel, very clean and comfortable premises. Recommended!
Review 7:Although varied, the breakfast could improve on the quality of some products, namely the juices. Machine served juices were bitter and not worthy of a 4 start hotel. The price of private parking could be lower, since longer stays become costly. Paying to use the vault. Moreover, carrying a conventional key is deprecated nowadays. At times the WiFi was very slow, making almost impossible e.g. to plan trips ahead using Google maps.
Review 8:Friendly staff. Spacious suite and comfortable beds. Great pool for children. Private covered parking. Excellent hotel choice in Monte Gordo.
Review 9:The sunblind area acts as slow oven. It needs UV protection & placed higher. That´s the only minus in this área.
Review 10:The swiming pool and adjacent areas, except the sunblind.
Review 11:Excellent friendly staff. Really nice breakfast - quite large selection. Some fresh squeezed juice and more fruit would be nice though. Very good wifi connection - and it works in the room! Just it gets disconnected if not used for at least 10 minutes. Located 5min walk from the beach
Review 12:All the extra charges. Gym, room safe, car park, pool towel. Wife very weak. We also found the bed uncomfortable.
Review 13:Friendly helpful staff. The hotel has a nice open feel.
Review 14:Security card system on bedroom door locks is poor . .many accessproblems to my room , requiring a visit to reception , which wassometimes unattended ( staff in back office ) for "revalidation" of card .future customers please be aware in 2015 atpresent the sewers are being replaced directly in front of the hotelAlcazar , and there are giant craters currently in front of hotel . Alsobulldozers beginning work early at 7 30 - 8 00am very noisy ,occasionally smelly and very dusty . This is beyond the control of thehotel ,and obviously essential work needing to be carried out , butguests need to be prepared . Not to be recommended for the elderly ,infirm or anyone with asthma /chest problems
Review 15:Have previously stayed at this hotel .Fantastic base for Portugaland Spain .Food good , very clean and comfortable rooms withexcellent views .
Review 16:We booked the parking through Booking.com and because of road works we were unable to use the car-park and they were unable to deduct the cost, not terribly serious as it was February there was plenty of public parking.
Review 17:atmosphere
Review 18:Over 2 nights no-one cleaned our room or made the beds
Review 19:On arrival we were given a plate of nuts and a glass of Port by Ines who announced that he would be looking after us.
Review 20:The staff were not particularly helpful, and for someone like my husband who has difficulty walking it was not easy to move around the hotel, the stairs to the pool area are wide with no handrails, and the lifts are very small, take 6 people only, and at meal times there is a long wait for a lift. and there are only limited signs to tell you where the lifts are, particularly from the pool area. The only bar open in the afternoon was outside and poorly attended All in all, very disappointing for the hotel rated no 1 in Monte Gordo
Review 21:The suite was clean and comfortable, breakfast buffet selection was limited, but well cooked.
Review 22:Bar for the evening was very quiet
Review 23:good location, good value for money, Room 301 was excellent. Nice balconies off the room, located close to beach and restaurants
Review 24:Average breakfast oldfashioned
Review 25:Staff
Review 26:Hotel 's location, excellent breakfast, great views & good entertainment.
Review 27:Well positioned slightly away from the beach but easy to get to every thing. Lovely pool area and room a good size
Review 28:Poor quality foof
Review 29:The staff were not friendly.
Review 30:Good location, very nice, friendly staff, all in all excellent. Would definitely suggest it to everyone.
Review 31:Interior needs some refurbishing Gymnasium too expensive
Review 32:Nice area around the pool Very good Breakfast, but no fresh orange juice...
Review 33:Price of the spa was too expensive for what it offered
Review 34:Every thing can't fault this hotel for the money
Review 35:Friendly staff and comfy environment!
Review 36:Really friendly and helpful staff. good sized rooms.clean.
Review 37:There were some road works outside of the hotel.
Review 38:Great hotel, just a short walk away from the beach. The hotel was very quiet and very comfortable.
Review 39:Having to pay additional cost for the facilities Spa 10 euros each per session Gym &.50 euros per day Breakfast never stocked up enough
Review 40:Place in the village and the village itself
Review 41:Swimming pool and service Breakfast View from the 8th floor balcony
Review 42:Staff is excellent
Review 43:Close to the centre and to the beach, both within a short walk. Excellent parking facility.
Review 44:Construction all around the building with a lot of noise Very thin walls between rooms Breakfast
Review 45:None
Review 46:The view
Review 47:Breakfast selection limited
Review 48:facilities and room were good
Review 49:spa and bed
Review 50:Very disappointed that an extra charge was levied to use the pool in the spa despite there being no mention of this when we booked.
Review 51:Good Wifi, location, hotel layout, seating area, pool, breakfast and buffet diner.Clean, friendly staff.
Review 52:There is nothi9ng not to like.
Review 53:I have stayed at the hotel 3 times in total and it never lets me down, the breakfast is first class.
Review 54:Dinner in restaurant
Review 55:Friendly/efficient staff Cleanliness Great location Nice pool Good breakfast
Review 56:Good Wifi coverage
Review 57:Housekeeping not very thorough. No welcome drinks. Four star but no porters. Gym not finished. Bathtub leaks and some paint flaking.
Review 58:Nice Pool. Staff friendly. Spacious rooms. Great breakfast buffet.
Review 59:The hotel tandem had poor brakes reported to reception.
Review 60:Reception staff very helpful. Booked Segway tour (which was brilliant) and cycles. Food reviews poor but thought they were OK for the cost of room. Room was serviced very well. We return later in year.
Review 61:Unfortunately, the sun did not reach our balcony fully at any point in the day so we were unable to sit out in it or use it to its fullest. There was building work taking place during our stay, which made relaxing by the pool a bit difficult at times.
Review 62:The staff were very kind & helpful, especially the reception staff. The food was good & lots of choice. I have a wheat intolerance but was able to eat well. The hotel was 5 minute walk from the beach & local shops. The hotel is expanding with a new solarium being built to include sauna, Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, tropical showers & a floatarium in salt; keeping up with the times. I would definitely return in the future.
Review 63:The fact that there were no tea/coffee making facilities and that the Wi-Fi was hit and miss in the rooms.
Review 64:The location was excellent for proximity to the beach and local bars and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very nice with comfortable beds and pillows. The free entertainment in the lounge bar added to the atmosphere.
Review 65:Nothing we disliked
Review 66:Everything. Staff were brilliant especially Ana who we mainly saw but all staff were so friendly so was Orlando who seemed to be everywhere
Review 67:The food at dinner was a little bit hit and miss. But having said that I never came away hungry!!
Review 68:This was the first time I have stayed alone in a Hotel. I felt very safe, my room was great, lovely comfortable bed, the dining room staff were very friendly, very clean every where. The position in Monte Gordo is excellent. I would certainly recommend this Hotel.
Review 69:My only comment is that a fresh fruit salad would have been better than tinned fruit at breakfast.
Review 70:Excellent suite, very comfortable bed, quiet location but easy walk to beach, bars and restaurant. We only had breakfast, which was a buffet, generally good.
Review 71:Wifi only worked in reception and stairwell. Key cards frequently had to be changed as they often wouldn't work but staff helpful each time.
Review 72:Staff extremely friendly and very helpful. Excellent views of sea and forest from bedroom which had a Large balcony. Room was spacious and clean. Comfortable bed. Breakfast, buffet style (included) was delicious. Evening meal can be purchased, again buffet style and good value at €14 each. Evening entertainment varied and drinks reasonably priced too. Hotel gave us a picnic as we had to leave, because of an early flight, before breakfast - brilliant idea!
Review 73:We thought the hotel was excellent. It was tastefully furnished throughout and our junior (very affordable) suite was more than ample for our needs. The staff were helpful and courteous at all time. We would definitely stay there again.
Review 74:We're unable to use the bar after 2100 on. New Year's Eve . No coffee/tea in room and unable to get any after breakfast till bar opened
Review 75:Rooms very comfortable . Staff helpful . Good position , we had a sea view. Would stay again
Review 76:Problem with the room key, needed several attempts to open the room door
Review 77:Bar drinks were very reasonable for an hotel. Beautiful views of the sea, forest and the river which defines the border with Spain.
Review 78:There's nothing we didn't like about it
Review 79:From the minute we arrived until the minute we left everything was perfect. We had booked one of the Thematic Suites (Dubai) and it was well worth the extra money. The suite was beautifully decorated and had a huge private balcony/patio with sunloungers and patio furniture. Fresh fruit and water were in the room and, just after we checked in, one of the hotel staff arrived to the room with some port to welcome us. We would definitely stay in this hotel again
Review 80:I had to leave the hotel, for family reasons, before the end of the scheduled stay. There was no sign of flexibility regarding the situation and a penalty was applied which made that in practice i had to pay the full stay despite having to leave 2 days in advance.
Review 81:Overall it is a good hotel, with a good and quiet location yet very near to the beach. Good value for money.
Review 82:Room did not have sea views as stated on Booking website. The hotel has at least three rows of buildings in front of it so not many (if any) of the rooms would have a sea view. Breakfast was absolutely awful. You are better off taking a short walk and buying it at one of the local cafes.
Review 83:Stayed in a roomy Junior Suite which was clean but basic. Close proximity to restaurants/shops and about 300 metres away from the beach. Staff were pleasant.
Review 84:The lunch menu was very poor and food mediocre at the best. Breakfast dining room was to crowded.
Review 85:Good location, enough beds by the pool, good for children
Review 86:No complaints. What's not to like?
Review 87:Everything! There is nothing to fault, we went for our 25th wedding anniversary and it met all our expectations. The staff are all friendly and helpful, there are not many staff so you see the same faces in the restaurant, bar and pool bar which is nice. Everywhere is spotless, the beds are comfortable and the buffet meals have plenty of choice and are all well presented. The interior is on a Moroccan theme with mirrors, curves and arches and has a great feel about it.
Review 88:The coffee at breakfast- awful.
Review 89:Very clean hotel, comfortable room, spotless bathroom. Great selection of fresh food for breakfast Good value for money
Review 90:Breakfast was always full with people. Not a quiet affair and perhapsmore geared to Dutch than English, hence, no bacon as we like it.
Review 91:Staff couldn't be faulted. Always available and at your service.Very professional. Would stay there again on our next visit.
Review 92:great value hotel very friendly and helpful staff especially joseph who should have a pay rise fantastic views from the top floor very good breakfast
Review 93:Would be nice to have WIFI access also in the rooms, not only in the Lobby area.
Review 94:Even though reserved a budget double room, got a really nice surprise upon check in: an upgrade to a huge family room on the 7th floor with terrace and sea views -- what a great beginning! :-) Location is also perfect, hotel is only few minutes walk from the Beach of Monte Gordo.
Review 95:The room was very poor, the reception staff should always tell theclient what type of room they gona get. Bad information atreception desk.
Review 96:Evening dinner buffet very poor compared with breakfast.
Review 97:Clean comfortable & spacious room. Lovely balcony with distant view of sea. Good buffet selection for breakfast.
Review 98:The male reception staff weren't overly friendly or helpful. We asked for suggestions on other towns to visit near Monte Gordo and the reception staff was vague and didn't offer much advice. Also, there was no WiFi in the rooms.
Review 99:Our room was on the top floor with an amazing balcony that overlooked Monte Gordo and the sea. The room was serviced everyday and was spotless.
Review 100:most importantly, very clean. Nice spacious room with lovely balconey and seating area. efficient staff. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Very pleased we chose this hotel to stay at, very good value for the price we paid. Nothing to complain about at all.
Review 101:The location of the hotel was fantastic with a great outlook. Also the rooms are large and very clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 102:At meal times the buffet could not properly cope with the number of guests. Parking should be included and not an extra. The lifts are small and slow
Review 103:Convenient location for the Vila Real Athletics and Sports complex. Good lounge, relaxation areas. Good range of choices at lunch and evening buffets
Review 104:friendly, helpful reception staff. In general, very friendly staff. Welcome drink with a glass of port wine and a little salt snacks was very nice. clean, comfortable Rooms. Rich breakfast buffet.
Review 105:everey thing was very good, no complaints
Review 106:stayed only for 2 nights as a convenient area to visit saville. the hotel was excelent and no complaints. we only had breakfast but that was very good and varied. the secure car park was a bonus. the total cost was amazing.
Review 107:The hotel was good value for money staff and cleanliness excellent onlyfault my elderly mothers room [104] had problems with lock every day andmy wife and I were upgraded but to single beds when we origionallybooked a double room not a twin but overall lovely break made verywelcome and would book again
Review 108:Would have been wonderful if the pool was slightly heated as too cold toswim in (mid-April) - I'm sure its fine on very hot days in the summerbut on colder days it would be lovely to be able to use it even if theweather is not so good!
Review 109:Stayed in this hotel with group of friends for a short cycling holiday. The hotel was excellent for this purpose. It was very clean and staffwere courteous and friendly. We were only b/b therefore cannot reallycomment on the food other than breakfast which certainly had a wideselection available. There are many good places nearby to eat. It is avery relaxing hotel, not too big and of an interesting design inside.Would definitely stay in this hotel again. Thought it was very goodvalue for money. However my wife and I paid 36 Euros more for our roomthan all our other friends (couples) who had booked at the same time(although our room was very nice and had a large king size bed). Overallthis is a very good 3* hotel. The hotel just obtained a new batch ofbikes which you can hire and well worth it. Hotel is very handy forbeach, walking, cycling or getting local train to other towns.
Review 110:Lovely location, very clean, spacious bedroom with a fabulous.view Excellent food for breakfast with such an array to choose from. Staff were Helpful snd courteous. It was value for money. Hope to visit somett Time soon.
Review 111:Ideal for bird Watching on Salt pans and Nature Area , Easy to go intoSpain and Huelva salt pans and to carry onto Donana ,El Rocio Seen over120 + Bird species in Area from Faro to El Rocio in March 2012 Worthstaying in Monte Gardo nice Hotel well worth the money Large clean room,Hot Water Excellent
Review 112:I think that the car park should be free in this standard of hotel.
Review 113:We booked the hotel 1/2hour before arriving. Reception Nuno was verypleasant. On arrival in our room we were greeted with a glass of portand nibbles, very nice touch. Breakfast there was a lot of choice.
Review 114:It was in the right location not on the front meant the price wasgood. Although we did not have dinner at the hotel it looked good, the breakfast was very good. 5 star. The only gripe I have waspaying to park.
Review 115:We had a fantastic stay at the Alcazar. Fantastic value for money thehotel was spotless rooms spacious and very welcoming nothing was toomuch trouble for the very friendly staff in fact we would have nohesitation in recommending this hotel to family and friends and lookforward to a return visit probably next winter.
Review 116:I Like everything about the hotel. The only downside is the tea making facility, but no problem as the staff will give you hot water if needed.
Review 117:My first impression of the hotel was the entrance. It was clean, bright and very welcoming. The reception staff was very kind and helpful. I arrived early, and it was no bother at all to check me in immediately. Breakfast was very good, and the restaurant staffs worked so hard to make sure that the buffet trays were looked after. The room I had was basic, but very clean and peaceful. I really enjoyed my stay, and I hope to return soon, and hopefully stay in one of the luxurus Suites. Very good for a 3 star hotel.
Review 118:One thing we did not like was being asked for an extra 5 euros to usethe enclosed car park. If the hotel wants to charge this, and I see noreason why they should as their charges were adequate, then they shouldput it onto their price. That is our opinion.
Review 119:We liked the design of the inside of the hotel, we stayed on the 8thfloor and had wonderful views of the beach and woods. Everything wasclean and well maintained. The staff were helpful. The breakfast foodwas good, with a good selection.
Review 120:Food and breakfast beveridges were awful. The maid took 6 minutes to clean the room. Didn't attempt to clean the bathroom. Beds were dreadful. Staff took a 'couldn't care attitude' Would never dream of staying again.
Review 121:The weather was good. The hotel was not too far away from a very good restaurant
Review 122:no spare electrical socket in room to charge phone
Review 123:large room & terrace. good breakfast decor location parking
Review 124:I liked the location and also in terms of quality/price. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
