Reviews for Casa da Se

Review 1:Nightmare busy/ narrow streets in the old centre. We eventually parked in the municipal car park at the bottom of hill and walked up a long steep hill. Trams run up the hill - but not the day we were there. Local bars/cafes permit smoking - Horrible!

Review 2:Elegant hotel near Cathedral. Good staff and breakfast. Good local restaurant Rossio Parque nearby.

Review 3:Parking little difficult but who cares when you have a hotel in such a wonderful location!

Review 4:Great location and a lovely hotel, breakfast tremendous and staff very friendly.

Review 5:The address did not exist on my Tom Tom GPS. They have a parking spot for loading and unloading suitcases. It is right in front of the door but to GPS it's in Praca Dom Pedro!!!

Review 6:The location is perfect to walk the center of town

Review 7:The staff were lovely and helpful. It was a great location in the heart of the historical centre. The house was beautiful and it was a great to stay in such a well preserved old home. Free parking was available close to the hotel.

Review 8:Outstanding! The location was ideal. Upon entering the hotel it was obvious it was a first class property. The staff greeted us with kindness and professionalism and superb English. We stayed in a beautiful room on the third floor with a grand view from the balcony. It was such a lovely room complimented with antique furnishings. The 18th century property truly makes you feel like you are back in the period. (Extremely clean facility) So many pieces to admire while enjoying the stay. Breakfast was just as pleasant. Homemade cakes, pastries, and jams were a bonus for the breakfast, as well as espresso coffee and assorted teas. The staff was more than helpful explaining all the selections presented for breakfast. So many thanks to them, Manuela and Monica you were exceptional! Hugs to you and the entire staff. We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the hotel to future travelers.

Review 9:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Classical and ornate decoration. Each room is themed to a particular historical figure, adding to the room's charm. Perfect location, as close as can be to the city center. Despite this, fairly quiet. Even thought there is no dedicated private parking, free overnight parking is possible nearby. Hottest water ever.

Review 10:The rooms faced the piazza so it could get a bit noisy with the windows open plus we had the rubbish truck around 7am!

Review 11:Beautiful boutique b&b. Big rooms and fabulous bathrooms. The staff were very helpful and provided interesting information about the hotel and the town of Viseau. Breakfast was wonderful with lots of homemade goods like the jams and cakes.

Review 12:Wifi was available but not very powerful.

Review 13:Excellent price/quality ratio. Extremely hospitable staff. Rooms uniquely decorated, in a restored building with loads of character. Varied, tasty breakfast. Location is in the heart of the historic centre, so bars, restaurants and monuments all a stone's throw away. Enjoy. We recommend.

Review 14:Tough to find if you are driving and do not speak much Portuguese. If someone has a suggestion on how to get Portuguese cities to clearly label their street names, please contact your local consulate!!

Review 15:Because a special event closed off a lot of local parking, the staff walked out to where we had to park and carried back our luggage. My wife is completely allergic to gluten. At breakfast the hotel provided a variety of GF foods, including excellent cereal, and the best GF cake we have ever eaten! My wife has been a celiac since about 1989, and this was one of the best hotel breakfasts she has ever enjoyed. This was our 15 trip to Portugal/Azores so we were very impressed.

Review 16:Nothing!

Review 17:The reception on arrival. The magnificent hotel packed with antiques, The room and bathroom with real (!) towels, location, the fabulous sitting room on 3rd floor, cafe/bar near reception, wonderful girls on reception who did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable, provision of specially made gluten free cake at breakfast. Excellent value for money.

Review 18:The hotel is charming, the staff was amazing, and the breakfast overflowing with delicious home made foods. Upon arriving, we were given museum tickets and information on a wine tasting happening that night. The antiques make it feel like you are staying in someone's home. Wonderful!

Review 19:Some street noise is the inevitable price for being right in the centre of city life.

Review 20:Extremely convenient central location. Exceptional staff are friendly and helpful. Beautiful room and public areas with museum-quality decorations. Very fine buffet breakfast with a wide range of irresistible, high-quality offerings.

Review 21:The hotel is excellent. Clean, comfortable, and a staff that was exceptional. Breakfast was delightful, with many local foods included and hotel made cake. Coffee was plentiful and very good.

Review 22:Person doing Check- in was not Very Friends. Provided slippers in The room were dirty- personnel First replied by saying: they are washed And only After insising changed them. Took Long Time to get hot water and then only a trickle. Paint from The Walls in The room Started to tear Off.

Review 23:Nice Location, nice view. Good Internet Connection. Most of the personnel was friendly and helpful.

Review 24:nothing

Review 25:everything! Staff was amazing, cordial and helpful, the room was big, cozy and comfortable.. and the bed, was just one of the best beds I've laid my body at :)

Review 26:This hotel is tiny but the rooms are spacious enough and the bathrom is a ballroom! Everyt piece of forniture is on sale, as the owner runs a local antique shop. We stayed here 2 nights and got to partecipate to the popular feast of the January chanting, with a big fire and nice tradtional costumes in the square right under the window.

Review 27:One very minor suggestion (not really a complaint): an authentic cappuccino (not packet mix) would make the breakfast perfect.

Review 28:We had car trouble on the way from Porto to Madrid and had a forced stop-over in Viseu. The staff were super helpful and spent a lot of time trying to help us track-down what was happening to my car that was towed away by the roadside assistance. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was very good. Thank you to the staff on duty 28/29 of December. Martin

Review 29:Nothing...everything was literally perfect!

Review 30:Staff was very helpful and went out of their way to be welcoming Breakfast spread was delicious and lots of options Room was really cool (old school bedroom, modern bathroom) Very close to everything, but the town is small anyways! Even though we didn't use it, there's a cool lounge on the top floor with a great view of the city

Review 31:rooms are very confortable and well decorated. The staff is very kind and gentil. Inês and Manuela are always asking how things are going and trying to help us. If you want to travel with your love and experience a romantic atmosfere you should stay in Casa da Sé.

Review 32:Parking is a problem but we were luckily able to find a free space nearby. It seems that all parking including the pay car parks is free on Saturdays and Sundays

Review 33:The receptionist was really helpful with local information.

Review 34:It was noisy outside on the Saturday night as there are a few bars just outside the hotel, however, the rest of our stay was quiet.

Review 35:Everything, absolutely loved everything about it. It's probably the best place I've every stayed in.

Review 36:the fact that the antique furniture whilst attractive and interesting was not conducive to having a practical bedroom or bathroom in which to pass days and nights. For instance the bed lights, lighting generally, the height of the bed with nothing to help you to climb into it. The cramped room because the furniture was too large for its size. Having antique upholster stool or some size in bathroom rather than something practical like a bidet or a larger shower. No where comfortable to sit in the bedroom, tho' a public lounge was available. The fact that although water was dripping from the ceiling in the bathroom our room was not changed and we had to put the towels on the floor and contend with a wet soggy floor and the drips falling on you when using the basin. Apologies were forthcoming and a10% reduction, but this was not adequate for the disruption experienced.

Review 37:the location and age of the building, the staff

Review 38:surrounded by bars , from 11pm to 4am can be a bit noisy , if you're beat you'll sleep trough it.

Review 39:staff were very friendly and helpful. historical building with comfortable amenities and a nice breakfast , also very clean and at the heart of the city.

Review 40:Breakfast was just okay. The choice was not so big and the space in the room for breakfast is small. The old doors are nice but very thin.that makes it a little noisy during the evening. The night was very quiet.

Review 41:Service and friendly staff. The furniture was nice. Location of the hotel.

Review 42:Curfew (have to ring a Portuguese phone number to come or go between 00:30 and 08:00). Slowish internet.

Review 43:Excellent location and breakfast. Very comfy beds. Helpful staff.

Review 44:Some noise from the street

Review 45:Decoration of room, breakfast (excellent cakes), opportunity to buy Portuguese wine (and other things such as Portuguese jewellry !)

Review 46:We enjoyed everything! But it's an old building: some areas might be a bit narrow or feel cramped for people with some impairment. Not our case, but I think it's worth pointing.

Review 47:Boutique hotel in the very center of old town Viseu, seconds away from the Cathedral and the worth-visiting Grao Vasco museum. The hotel is owned by an antiquarian and all the decoration is an antique, a piece of art or both. All the rooms' are decorated differently and all of them are equally beautiful. The staff was charming, the breakfast was wonderful (delicious cakes!) and all of us agreed we would like to visit it again in the future.

Review 48:We had a beautiful room that looked onto the Cathedral and central Visue. The hotel is truly in the centre of this historical town and has been lovingly restored. It has a modern finish to complement the historical features which makes for a comfortable stay. The staff are personable and highly professional that ensured our stay was particularly memorable.

Review 49:Although the hotel description mentions that there is public parking close by, in busy periods it is almost impossible to find a spot. music and noise outside hotel can be pretty loud.

Review 50:Very nice hotel with antique furniture and very nice decor in the city centre.

Review 51:Internet didn't work. Festival outside meant we had to park some streets away, but that isn't the hotel's fault

Review 52:Beautiful decor, position in centre of town by Cathedral. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 53:Parking to load and unload was interesting but the staff were super helpful. The breakfast room was a tight fit.

Review 54:A bit cramped because of the tight quarters and abundance of decorative items. But, the location was great and staff were extremely helpful in all aspects. Breakfast was great.

Review 55:Extremely comfortable , furnished with interesting and quirky antiques assorted decorative items most of which were for sale.

Review 56:Charming traditional art & design Location nr Cathedral & Restaurant Breakfast Friendly service

Review 57:Generous Rooms and fun antique furniture. Well located to see the historical part of town.

Review 58:Charming Hotel in good location.

Review 59:The location is great and the staff was very helpful.

Review 60:No free plugs in the room.

Review 76:Rooms were all said to have a cathedral view on booking (but they don't).

Review 77:The decor, the staff and the breakfast.

Review 78:As in the middle of the village some noise during the night.

Review 79:Furniture, old style, in the heart of the village

Review 80:Staff was helpful beyond our expectations in helping us when our car broke down.

Review 81:Warm welcome and beautiful building

Review 82:location, staff, ambience breakfast

Review 83:Wonderfull hotel in the central location of Viseu. Wonderful staff, the breakfast was one of the best.

Review 84:Lovely hotel. No complaints

Review 85:Maybe they try just a little too hard?

Review 86:Huge superior room. Very kind and helpful staff. Quiet and relaxing

Review 87:Really nothing to complain about

Review 88:Rooms are stunning. Staff are very helpful and breakfast is delicious!

Review 89:Everything was perfect. Very romantic place to stay, there is no better located hotel in the old city.

Review 90:Friendliness of the staff Great location Boutique style with luxurious interior

Review 91:Good location, very clean, nice breakfast.

Review 92:The staff: wonderful. I'm sorry I forgot her name (Carla?), but we were welcomed very warm and friendly by the girl with curly hair at the desk. She showed us around the hotel, helped with the luggage, showed us the rooms, explained everything, helped where she could. The other staff was very friendly and helpfull as well. The breakfast was the best we had in all of portugal (and we tried some ;-) ). Again, she came with us to explain all the cheeses, cakes, pastries, jams,... The interior of the hotel and the rooms is just wonderful. A real boutique hotel, stuffed with beautiful furniture. Rooms with all necessities, (and a pricelist of all furniture in the room, so if you'd fall in love with something... ;-) ) Beds are very comfortable. All in all a wonderfull hotel in the most central location in Viseu but most of all a very pleasant stay because of the warm staff. Thank you!

Review 93:Confusing and difficult bath/shower fixtures. Beautiful but dangerous!

Review 94:Beautiful and very comfortable. Unique and chic. Unusually helpful staff. Just a pleasure!

Review 95:everything was in a very high standard, the hotel is located in a very central place in Viseu. the suite we slept in, was superb, the staff , 2 very nice young ladies, were very attentive and helpful. breakfast was more than great. a definitely place to go back to.

Review 96:Right in the centre which is nice unless there is a festivity going on. While we were there student week was celebrated which meant blaring music from bars and very loud people in the streets until 3AM. Don't expect much rest on those nights...

Review 97:Interesting decorations (and it's all for sale!)

Review 98:No gym or swimming pool but this is of course a city hotel in an historic location.

Review 99:Good staff, nice location in the centre of Viseu near the cathedral (free parking in the weekend but also on weekdays possibility to park your car free of charge at nearby location). Clean and an excellent combination of an historic room and a modern bathroom. Good breakfast buffet: limited choices but high-quality products and great fresh cake!

Review 100:Nada

Review 101:We were very impressed by this hotel, the location is perfect, the facilities are really nice and the service is remarkable. Really friendly staff, I strongly recommand this location to Viseu visitors !!!

Review 102:Almost everything about the stay was very good. Excellent location Near to the historic attractions. Staff was very helpful. It was very homely. Excellent breakfast. Would highly recommend.

Review 103:Almost impossible to park nearby if you go by car.

Review 104:Amazing building, decorated with ancient pieces of furniture that you can actually buy! Bedroom with the most charming WC that I have ever seen, with two big bright windows. Excellent home-made breakfast.

Review 105:Extremely noisy. They prodyly claim both the room windows and door are from the original construction. It shows. You have absolutely no privacy in the rooms and get to hear drunk people shouting all night long. We finally got to sleep at 6am and were happy to not have to spend a second night.

Review 106:Central location and good breakfast.

Review 107:We stayed in the Royal suite. It was an amazing experience. The service was the best we ever experienced. Breakfast was fabulous. The views of the cathedral and the Douarte square were idilic.

Review 108:Had to park some way away.

Review 109:Superb . Filled with antiques but every modern convenience. Such lovely staff. Great position. This has to be our favourite hotel

Review 110:Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful, imposing, but very comfortable period interior, with interesting furnishings, many of which are for sale. Perfect location for sightseeing, with a very relaxed atmosphere in the immediate locality and also good restaurants close by. Excellent buffet breakfast.

Review 111:Nothing, everything was great.

Review 112:Fantastic hotel, felt like staying at a rich, noble relative's house. Great breakfast with local products, cheese and jams were especially good.

Review 113:Parking was an issue due to a festival taking place in the square but the Staff were more than helpful with directing me to free parking at a local church

Review 114:All of it, Staff were attentive and very helpful

Review 115:If I had to complain about anything it would have to be that the doorsto the rooms are not sound proof and we could hear everything thathappened outside our door ...and vise versa.

Review 116:I loved our stay at Casa da Se. The staff was friendly, professional, and attentive. A classic mix of antique furnishings and modernaccommodations. You get great views from the lounge and the locationcould not be better! Right in the center of the historical district aminute walk to great restaurants, cafe's, and night life. Worthevery single penny and a complete steal. We had a late night so Ididn't make it to breakfast with my wife on the morning we wereleaving, when we went to check out they had prepared a little 'togo' breakfast for me without us asking! They where also great aboutholding our bags so we could sightsee since we arrived hours before ourroom was ready! Amazing experience with free WiFi! Great place!!!

Review 117:Absolutely everything. I was staying in another hotel and moved there after a random visit to have tea in their open area. Staff were simply fantastic, superfriendly and helpful. A must if you stay in Viseu!
