Reviews for Pousada de Bragança - Sao Bartolomeu

Review 1:Having to leave.

Review 2:Rooms have wonderful views of the old town and the castle. Treat yourself to one of the taster menus which also include wine, they are excellent and very good value. The hotel director and head chef are brothers and ensure that you wont be disappointed.

Review 3:Nothing! It's a bit old-fashioned (but well-refurbished & comfortable) & might not be to everyone's taste but it suits the town & the region.

Review 4:You come for the view (of the castle), yet everything else is great, too. I was ill in the morning & the staff were great: they gave my husband a tray to bring some breakfast to me & allowed us to check out 2 hours late to give me a chance to get better before heading off. We'd come back to the region just to stay at this hotel.

Review 5:Antonio, the manager understands customer service completely. He was so helpful and knowledgeable. Food is local and great, wine is local and doesn't give you a hangover! Not as attractive from the outside as other pousadas but makes up for it in so many other ways!

Review 6:Exceptional food and wine. Without doubt the very best we had during 10 days touring.Northern Spain and Portugal. The best table service I have ever experienced. Incredible value for money.

Review 7:Parking on cobbles for our motorcycle slightly tricky.

Review 8:Friendly welcome, nice room, everything worked, lovely views of Braganca from our balcony. breakfast good. Much better than the Parador we stayed in the night before.

Review 9:As with most pousadas it seems to need bringing up to date. Would have been nice to have a separate shower rather than one over a narrow bath. No room safe.

Review 10:Excellent view of the citadel, 20 minutes walk away through town. Large room. Very clean. No real issues, but could do with updating.

Review 11:It is well worth staying here to experience the amazing dinner! We stopped off overnight on our way to the ferry at Santander. We had a tasting menu costing €32.50 which was superb value and included drinks. A very warm welcome from the Manager. The views of the castle and old walled city are beautiful.

Review 12:Bathrooms could do with updating.

Review 13:Good location within short walk of both the castle and old town. Pool and its surroundings were a peaceful (when we visited) place to relax. Original 1950s decor in communal areas.

Review 14:I loved that the hotel was built in 1959 and has managed to remain original to that period with grace and elegance. It was like stepping back in time. Nothing was too much trouble. The taster menu was excellent along with the accompanying wines.

Review 15:The restaurant is a bit OTT... 2 amuse bouches before the main dish which was very small for the price. However, the waiting staff were lovely and this would be a good choice if money was no object....

Review 16:Great location overlooking the town, with large comfortable rooms with balconies

Review 17:Lack of foot access to town - a steep earth path, difficult carrying anything and probably dangerous if wet. A gate to the track at the bottom of the site is needed by those not bringing a car.

Review 18:No complaints at all, really.

Review 19:The views from the balcony are marvelous; very nice to be within easy walking distance of the ancient, walled section of the city; lovely walks along the river; the 'Solar' restaurant in town by the cathedral; ease of parking; the pool looks very inviting (though it was too cold for us to swim in mid-April, when we visited).

Review 20:Bit of a walk into the town but manageable.

Review 21:Pool was cold but lovely. Views to die for. Breakfast was fab. Staff extremely friendly. Intercommunicating rooms for families.

Review 22:Breakfast, although plentiful, is somewhat limited in choices.

Review 23:The size of the "superior room", the quality of the bathroom, the warm atmosphere, the grand common room with a hearth slowly burning wood, the architecture from the late fifties, friendly staff, the wonderful view over the castle, the city and the distant snowy mountains already in Spain.

Review 24:Didn't find anything not to like.

Review 25:We had a large double room for two nights in September, huge comfortable bed and an ensuite to match with seperate toilet. Lots of places where you can find comfortable arm chairs to sit and read or watch the world go by. They provide a terrific breakfast with a great deal of choice the bacon and egg was very good but a large range of continental options also, any number of juices, cereals, breads and cakes.

Review 26:Poor-lack of Wifi in Room (although room booklet mentioned wifi not readily available in rooms). However nowadays one would expect room available wifi in a hotel of this standard.

Review 27:Difficult question to answer - as we liked just about everything about Braganca. There's not much else you can do in Braganca, so one tends to spend just a couple of days in this town.

Review 28:The hotel Manager and staff all have large hearts The location is excellent and every room has a view of the Castle Braganca Does not have the usual tourist trappings Accessible only by road, which helps keep Braganca unspoilt and less commercial in it's approach to visitors

Review 29:Staff at reception speak only Portuguese. Very difficult communication (very basic english or french - they use google translate on their pc (if necessary). They are not a member of the Pousada chain (it is a franchise), so no advantages for Pestana Priority guests.

Review 30:Good location. Friendly and helpful staff. Really excellent food. Nice swimming pool. Breakfast al fresco. Parking spaces.

Review 31:Not sure it would be suitable for anyone with a disability as it was all on different levels.

Review 32:Views. Informative staff in the restaurant - a culinary experience.

Review 33:The waiter spilled the coffee while still on the tray, he took it with him without asking and I recieved a new coffee. It tasted like darkend hot water, the rest of my family had a very strong tasting dark coffee with foam. Breakfast was poor, it was served outside even though it was too cold.

Review 34:expencive but very luxurious dinner.

Review 35:Nothing.

Review 36:Maître'd and chef gave us a superb dinning experience. Many interesting taster dishes delivered with knowledge of ingredients, all with a laid back and friendly attitude. First class, thank you.

Review 37:Music at the pool is a bit too loud for our comfort. Also, a meal not consumed by us appeared on our bill. Unfortunately, it took too much effort to make receptionist understand that we did not have three dinners when we stayed only two nights.

Review 38:Quality of the food is exceptionally good. Location is superb.

Review 39:Lives up to all expectations of a Portuguese Pousada. The dining menu is first rate as was the service.

Review 40:The service was very good and the views of the old town of Braganza and of the mountains were special.

Review 41:We liked everything.

Review 42:The views of the castle and being able to walk into town.

Review 47:Braganca is not very attractive.

Review 48:The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 49:None medium luxury good food with wide choice from limited menu

Review 50:Friendliness of management and staff

Review 51:la situation en face du chateau

Review 52:The property is having issues with the wifi signal, but the good thing is that they are sorting it out

Review 53:A wonderful view over Braganca and the castle. Excellent swimming pool. Closeness to centre. Good parking.

Review 54:Stunning views from room. Truly excellent meal at dinner and warm & friendly service from staff at all times.

Review 55:Poor quality of extra bed for kids, unfriedly staff at breakfast

Review 63:The restaurant thought it was competing in Master Chef!

Review 64:Had a really nice dinner. Food great.

Review 65:Best value set price gourmet meal ever! Staff couldn't have been more friendly or professional.

Review 66:Wifi connection not available in the room

Review 67:Hotel situaion and view on the castle / Swiming pool

Review 68:Standard double room quite spacy, excellent view over the pool toward the Medieval Castle. Spacious lounge, very confy.

Review 69:Very cold rooms

Review 70:Staff Location

Review 71:Nothing

Review 72:The location, and the staff were fantastic

Review 73:The breakfast was disappointing and the coffee was poor.

Review 74:The pool The room with balcony Pleasantness of the staff

Review 75:Nice spacious and clean rooms with beautiful view. Very helpful and friendly staff. City centre is 15 min.walk.

Review 76:The views.

Review 77:It's a bit of a trek into town, but worth it.

Review 78:The View and the old house feel of the place, oh and the breakfast terrace.

Review 79:Kitchen, Poor breakfast compared with others in the chain, the fruit was especially poor, it seemed to have been frozen thawed and turned to mush, both days. 95 minutes wait for one course in the evening unacceptable

Review 80:nothing

Review 81:We all enjoyed it. View. Lovely big room. A very good Breakfast. We do not regret that staying in this hotel. Maybe that's not cheap, but one night we could achieve.

Review 82:Rooms and common areas are a little dated, though this can also be charming.

Review 83:This is a 1950s-style pousada with very comfortable beds and nice amenities. Wonderful views of the old town and castle of Bragança. The breakfast buffet is spectacular, one of the best I've ever had.

Review 84:Log fire not lit as too smokey. Some noisy visiting guests with unruly children disturbed the residents.

Review 85:Superb value, good breakfast (even if Continentle),quiet and dark bedrooms, convenient location, good parking facilities

Review 86:A little expensive for out of season

Review 87:Beautiful location with glorious views. Very friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable. The food was adequate.

Review 88:The prices in the bar are ridiculous: we paid 17,50 euro for two tinyglasses of lbv Port, would be 7 or even less elsewhere. Even therestaurant prices are double the price of the restaurants in the city,so walk down there. The internet in the day time is quiet hopeless andnot available in the rooms.

Review 89:The best thing of this pousada is the view on the city! The room isspacious with a balcony and a large bed with very fine linnens. Becauseof the bad weather conditions we couldn't use the nice swimmingpool. Personnel is very friendly and helpfull but can't compensatefor the lesser points of this hotel.

Review 90:Nothing, it was all perfect.

Review 91:The setting and building was beautiful and I loved the incredible views over the city and castle, especially at night. The food is wonderful - traditional and tasty and the breakfast is really impressive. Lovely spacious rooms with gorgeous balconies and spacious marble bathrooms. Such lovely staff too - all of them! So helpful and charming. Wish we could have stayed longer!!

Review 92:The restaurant itself was great but the food was just good, not excellent & the à la carte menu is expensive for the quality. I guess you pay for the views. Overall, a nice hotel but a little bit dated & shabby around the edges, probably not up to standard for some top-end customers but fine considering that it is provincial Portugal. Pre-packaged plastic cutlery, plastic plates & glasses in the garden. Immediately by the pool, I understand the risk of having real glass but plates & cutlery? It felt a bit cheap, which it certainly wasn't at €6.50 for a simple, very small salad.

Review 93:The location: near enough to walk to & from town but 'lording it up' over the town & castle. Unrivalled views. Combined old & new Portugal. Reception staff. Comfortable, clean room & great bathroom with bath. Poolside area with attentive staff (but some training needed of a less experienced staff member). The breakfast, including bubbly.

Review 94:Decor dated , needs re decoration and hotel smells of wood smoke . Reception Staff not as pleasant when compared to lovely welcome in other portugese hotels .Price was steep despite over 55's discount .

Review 95:Location very good for visiting historic centre, pool area and garden lovely . Reasonable breakfast .ok for 1 night stay .

Review 96:Nothing it was a lovely experience

Review 97:The location of the Pousada was perfect. Just a ten minute walk into the town. The Pousada had a beautiful view of the castle and it walls which we enjoyed from our rooms and the dining room. The staff was most helpful.

Review 98:The spacious room had extensive views overlooking the city of Braganca and the pousada is within walking distance to the town centre. The hotel staff from checking in to breakfast were efficient and professional. Breakfast was extensive and good.

Review 99:Nothing????

Review 100:Very friendly staff and good food quite a nice hotel good parking not fabulous but good
