Reviews for Buitenplaats Vaeshartelt
Review 1:The rooms were spartan. Bare bones...not even a bottle of water or a tea kettle. I felt like even those small touches would have made the room nicer. Breakfast was much too expensive to eat when we drove into the city and picked up breakfast for a fraction of the cost. It is about a 15 minute drive into city centre from this hotel.
Review 2:It was a lovely place and a good spot to base out of. The staff were very helpful in finding us a restaurant to eat at. I would love to see their gardens in the spring because I am sure they are spectacular. The beds were very comfortable.
Review 3:Dinner was not so great for the price.
Review 4:The hotel is beautiful to look at and we very much enjoyed walking in the grounds. Our waiters at dinner were very friendly and efficient, the bartender also. The room was nicer than it looked on the website, nice rainshowever.
Review 5:If you don't have a car it would be rather uncomfortable to move away.
Review 6:Sumptuous location, the hotel is a fascinating castle with a big park, the car parking is very big and it's for free. The staff is very nice and friendly. Breakfast is very good and with a large choice. Rooms are decent, comfortable and clean. We had a very good dinner in the hotel's restaurant. Free WiFi. All was perfect. Be aware that the Hotel is quite far away from the city, you need a car to move!
Review 7:Dirty shower (black mould) and economic shower so not much water. Early checkout (10:30) and no possibility for late breakfast so everyone wanted to eat at the same time.
Review 8:Nice park, nice property. Good parking facilities. Good breakfast
Review 9:The cleaning staff was much too noisy in the morning, talking very loudly and knocking on our doors several times and it was not check out time, only 9.15 am. Also the breakfast for a family is much too expensive.
Review 10:Lovely place and nicely designed rooms.
Review 11:Surprised to find that a 'comfort' room is actually the standard - you don't have any dinky little pots of toiletries as you might think if you look at the photos. Modern accommodation block reminiscent of a university hall of residence - particularly the corridors. Very functional, but no plugs in basins - so if you want a wet shave, or to wash out your smalls, take your own plug. Lift available. There seemed to be events going on in the main rooms, and apparently it's used a lot for conferences during the week, so probably as well to check if anything is going on during your stay. Girl on reception a bit dippy.
Review 12:A fabulous location - main hotel an historic palace set in parkland some distance from Maastricht. Hotel contacted us to ask if we would like to book for dinner since they were likely to be busy (Sat night) (they weren't, but we were very happy to have been asked.) Dining room service impeccable, and we ate there again on our second night. Bed very comfortable - lift to fourth floor - free minibus into town Sat & Sun. Lots of children around, and lots of space for them to rush around. Lots of art and art books around.
Review 13:Long wait for dinner, which was served in the bar, and to be honest the quality of the food was very average for the price.
Review 14:Building and setting were wonderful
Review 15:As business traveller I have to state the lights above your buro are absolutely un-acceptable and below any level. The rest of the room has been re-decorated over the last years to a high level and absolutely good.
Review 16:Great hotel, good and updated room. Diner with a price of 29.50 Euro for a 3 course excellent meal is marvelous. Staff is great as usual, one reason for me coming here for years already. During summer period great quiet place with large terrasses and gardens on both sides. Nice area just outside of Maastricht on highly acceptable price level.
Review 17:Located 3 miles from Maastricht centre, which wasn't a problem for us as we had bikes, but not an ideal location if relying on foot or public transport.
Review 18:Fabulous hotel in an old manor house. Beautiful gardens and surrounds. Excellent restaurant (although a fairly limited menu)
Review 19:Everything ok, only the bed too soft... but nothing else to complain. Perfectly clean and people extremely helpful
Review 20:Nature surrounding the place and calmness
Review 21:The beds weren't very comfy so didn't sleep well. But others slept fine, so probably depends what your used to.
Review 22:Lovely setting, hotel beautiful, staff friendly and helpful. Only booked for dinner one eve and the food was nice but on looking at the menu for the following evening it was the same menu once again.
Review 23:There was early industrial noise each morning which unfortunately detracted from the countryside image. Also, no airco in the rooms which meant we were a bit too warm given the summer charweather.
Review 24:We like the country-house setting, the on-site car parking, the gardens, and the ease of cycling. The friendliness of all the staff and the atmosphere in general. We didnt eat there so cant comment on the food.
Review 25:No fan or air conditioning. The room was quite warm at night and difficult to sleep
Review 26:Location, peaceful surroundings, friendly staff, nice food, relaxing feeling
Review 27:Older waiter was quite rude , toilet arrangements unsuitable (room 201 ) info not in English , no tea making facilities in room
Review 28:Grounds, food. Ambiance , driver was very good. Taxi very good but necessary. Reception staff friendly and helpful
Review 29:Not the hotel's fault, but it is a bit of a track into town, which we knew beforehand, the only problem is that the bus is rather expensive. Cost us 9 EUR per person.
Review 30:A beautiful setting, lovely accomodating staff, a very modern room with nice design lighting. We didn't try the breakfast but it looked good and there is a nice bar, too.
Review 31:Unsuitable for English visitors as all written information was in Dutch. Tea in the restaurant was a cup of water and teabag and only coffee was available at breakfast. The room was basic - no tea making facilities, fridge or chair. Open shelving - no drawers or wardrobe door. Did not use air con as it was noisy. No hooks in bathroom and towels were too close to the toilet. Disappointed room was in modern building as hotel was booked for the beautiful building shown on the website.
Review 32:Beautiful main building and grounds.
Review 33:We arrived when mosquitos were around and the weather was very hot, because of the mosquitos we could open the window for fear of being bitten. A fly screen over at least one window in the room would have been helpful.
Review 34:The staff were excellent and very helpful. The room was spotlessly clean. The location was excellant
Review 35:Nothing to dislike
Review 36:Lovely old building in nice grounds. Convenient for Maastricht if driving but also offer free shuttle which we used for getting to Andre Rieu concert.
Review 37:We had a bit of an unpleasant experience with the head waiter of the restaurant but it was quickly resolved.
Review 38:Difficult to specify one single point. The whole visit was a very, very pleasant experience. Enjoyed walking in the beautiful grounds and it was not far from Maastricht town itself.
Review 39:The rooms are a bit plain. I would recommand to put tissues and a bit more toiletrie items( shower cap, body lotion).During our stay prices were a bit high.
Review 40:the location is great and personnell are very friendly. Renovation off the bathroom
Review 41:There was no shuttle service on weekdays for Andre Rieu concert nights. Although a slight reduction for certain taxis was offered, and I had pre-booked hours before, taxi didn't show up. Much as I loved the hotel, this one fact would put me off staying there again as it was difficult to get back after the show.
Review 42:The grounds, lake, fountain. Very peaceful and relaxing. Breakfasts were very good with choices.
Review 43:We loved everything about this hotel, the staff were extremely friendly and interested in your story. The food was excellent. The rooms were very stylish, spacious and comfortable.
Review 44:Not really a bad experience but we were bothered by mosquitoes (non malarial) however the staff were excellent by moving us to a room with a fly screen. All rooms normally have screens but someone had removed ours without telling the management!
Review 45:Beautiful grounds where you can relax in peace and quiet. Friendly staff, indoor and outdoor games available, bikes to hire, free shuttle 11am to 11pm at weekends, reduced rate taxi hire.
Review 46:not bad but bar and restaurant were quite expensive. 30 euro for a 2 course meal. 15 euro for 2 drinks.
Review 47:the staff were friendly and welcoming, all spoke excellent English. Room was clean and tidy and quiet. Beautiful setting in gorgeous gardens. Free shuttle to Maastricht was excellent
Review 48:I am being very picky, but probably the location in relation to the centre of town isn't the best. But don't let this put you off a 10 minute taxi ride for 15E from reception.
Review 49:Layout of the hotel, grounds are beautiful. Staff were very helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 50:No kettle in the room and no fridge.
Review 51:Super clean throughout. Excellent breakfast buffet. Set in a beautiful parkland/garden. Free shuttle into Maastricht was a new bonus this year. We have stayed here before and would definitely come back
Review 52:This hotel is a budget hotel masquerading as something more. The room had minimal storage, no refreshments and a bathtowel to share between 2. It was not good value for money.
Review 53:The evening meal menu was very restricted. The noise from the festival which was held while we were there. We were aware of the festival beforehand but not what it entailed. Might have thought twice about booking ;
Review 54:The building - it was beautiful and the decor in the older part of the building was superb. I would have liked to have had more information about the original building and the history of it The shuttle bus was a bonus. Staff very friendly
Review 55:there was no air conditioning in the room. No tea or coffee in the room.
Review 56:Room was clean and spacious. The restaurant food could not be faulted. There was a great choice of food for breakfast.
Review 57:With no airconditioning the room was an oven, and a tiny window it was hard to sleep. We hated the washbasin being by the door and not in the tiny bathroom. When someone comes in with dirt on their shoes, then one comes out of bathroom having washed etc. you need to walk on that dirty area...it is the worst designed hotel room I ever had!
Review 58:Lovely gardens, friendly and helpful staff, enough parking places, nice to sit at tables outside under shade on the hot weather.
Review 59:Every evening (weekend) very noisy because of parties or weddings going on. So impossible to sleep before midnight. We were not informed about this beforehand.
Review 60:Nice location.
Review 61:No tea, coffee within rooms or water but was provided in hallways. Service at dinner started well but once delivered meal did not see waiter again, and when asking to sign bill, we were presented first with 2 incorrect ones before 3rd attempt was correct. Expensive as Andre Rieu was in town.
Review 62:The grounds are beautiful, loved walking around the small wood, and looking at the attached farm display. Interesting art displays and nice rooms
Review 63:The location only works if you come by car.
Review 64:The setting in a former country estate is charming, conducive for a relaxing stroll through the property. Breakfast room and buffet were top-rate. Hotel is very clean and property beautifully maintained.
Review 65:The breakfast room is too small and too crowded at any time. The choice and the arrangement is not at the level of the rest of the hotel
Review 66:The location and the building.
Review 67:We went to Maastricht for a business trip. It is written in the ad that shuttle service is available. However when we arrived we were told that the shuttle service is only available at weekends. We have to tAke a train or taxi to the city center. Can I say this is deception?
Review 68:wifi is good.
Review 69:Lack of tea and coffee making, even cheap bnbs had this. My suggestion would be to allow guests to use the massive beverage machine near reception as compromise. Currently noted for conferences only.
Review 70:Wi-Fi good, clean room, ok decor not horrible.hotel grounds are lovely, surprised they don't make it more wedding oriented.
Review 71:Breakfast not the best selection. Location is fine if you have a car but without it is too far from Maastricht town centre.
Review 72:Lovely peaceful setting. Great for walking around the countryside. Great food in the restaurant
Review 73:Price of one beer €4.5! Somewhat steep. But location softens the pain. The speed of the waiters waiting on the terrace. Very poor. Absolutely insufficient could need some training! Cleaning tables. Had to ask three times. Food already finished!! Full terrace and just (slowly bringing one cup of coffee without a tray!!!) very unprofessional!! And paying and getting money back. Somewhat of a farce walking with a €10 note inside and bringing the change again doing nothing else! Unbecoming this hotel and location. They should work on that. For the rest wauwwww! Will definitely go back there.
Review 74:Location and premises Value for money!
Review 75:........ The hotel has character and charm .a turkey Dutch feel to it. The grounds are lovely and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The restaurant was superb and we te there every evening.
Review 76:Breakfast ok expensive no tea making facilities in room instructions only in dutch
Review 77:Room and bed and shower wet room very good evening meal very nice in bar restaurant was too noisy
Review 78:Just the rooms are a little disappointing when you compare the beauty of the building with the cold business like style of the room, I wish it was a little more cozy! Also it would be great if the double bed had one whole mattress instead of two single ones as it's less comfortable for couples.
Review 79:Really beautiful building and surroundings! Just a little outside the city center but since we went by car that was fine! Staff is really friendly and food is good! All and all a great place and we would stay there again
Review 80:doors to the shower/WC are not functional. breakfest not included in the price and is too expensive (in the price of dinner in Maastricht)
Review 81:beautiful surroundings. good location for those, who are traveling to Maastricht region by car. relaxing and charming atmosphere for all types of travellers. good and cosy room. free parking and wifi. beautiful building - liked how new part of hotel was integrated with old part.
Review 82:It is too far to walk into the city centre on foot so one either has to take a bus, or walk to the railway station which is about 15 minutes away, or drive and find a car park.
Review 83:This hotel is situated a couple of miles out of the centre of Maastricht and is very accessible by car from the peripheral motorway. The hotel has its own open-air car park sited near the reception entrance. The old building has a lot of character and there is a modern extension to the rear of contemporary design where the bedrooms are located. We had a pleasant outlook from our window across parkland. We were able to book dinner in the restaurant and there was a reasonably varied menu. The food was average, and the English version of the menu had a few puzzling translations from the Dutch like "historical vegetables".
Review 84:Rooms are in modern block, not in the historical part. Advertised prices seem very high for what you get.
Review 85:Very cleaned and comfortable rooms. We were very happy due to discounted price.
Review 86:Unfortunately the staff didn't get the Southern upbringing of hospitality - most questions are too difficult and they are very 'stuck' in their ruled system, which leaves no room for warmth or spontaneity. Be carefull when you book with booking.com, you will be placed in the booking.com wing, which means the rooms look like hospital rooms and scare you to be in there. Far from Chateau Luxury.
Review 87:Location is awesome, right near the forest and country side, yet still not too far of a bike ride into town. Food is very local and prepared daily.
Review 88:You have to walk about 75 meters from the parking lot to the reception, and there is only gravel, meaning your luggage gets a real test of its wheels. This is honestly the only tiny detail I could find not to like.
Review 89:This hotel is amazing. A proud historical building very beautiful and kept spotlessly clean. Rooms are great, bed was superbly comfortable. The restaurant is truly excellent. It is just a short distance from Maastricht, so if this is your destination, it is a great hotel to stay at. Quiet and serene, and part of a large nature complex, it even has a Great Sequoia in the court yard!
Review 90:Difficult to commute from hotel to virtually everywhere else. They do have free shuttle bus to city center but that only operates at weekends. Wifi not stable in some of the rooms.
Review 91:Hotel fields must be stunning in summer.
Review 92:When I checked out, the invoice was different that what was on my invoice for booking.com I will need that to be taken care of. The staff was not qualified and did not know how to handle this matter.
Review 93:The staff was kind.
Review 94:Weather :-)
Review 95:UBS chargers in the room 3-4 times a year and they constatntly further develop it with nice details.I stay at this hotel Bathroom has recently renovated and perfectly functional, modern and convenient. No noise in the room not even cose to the elevator
Review 96:The room was quite rubbed off, there was a carpet on the floor and I've got a feeling that it was never washed. All the furnuture was somehow down-at-the-hills. Our room was the closest to the corridor door, so we could hear all the night opening and shouting process.
Review 97:The water from the tab was quite scarce, low pressure and window could not be open
Review 98:building, garden and lake area was very cosy. Breakfast was very good too.
Review 99:Valentyn dinner on a plastic chair Valentyn dinner without proper vegetarian food Valentyn dinner in a big hall Bar tender doesnot know his job, he didnot know the name of the gin on the card.
Review 100:The entrance The reception friendlyness The shuttle to Maastricht
Review 101:the furniture and bathroom doors feel a bit cheap. Does not resemble the first impression you get when entering the hotel from outside. You do not stay in the castle itself, but in a new additional building. This was expected by us but a bit higher-quality furniture would suit the hotel better.
Review 102:location venue
Review 103:first room was cold on arrival..soon rectified by upgrade.
Review 104:Great location for MECC. Good parking, really good food and lovely staff. Will come and stay again. Gary & Gillie McCourt
Review 105:Upon arrival you are impressed with the inside of the reception, dining and bar area, however as soon as you open the door to your room reality kicks in. All the rooms are behind the palace in a modern extension. Their standard is something I would most closely compare to a badly designed Travelodge, where no thought has been put into the decor of the rooms - wardrobe is from IKEA, while side tables are made from pieces of a tree? Blue walls, and randomly hanged pictures and modern lights from different sets add to the mixture. The bathroom was outdated and had a hair dryer from the 80s it seemed like. You have to upgrade your room and pay more for a double if you want one. Breakfast very expensive considering this is Maastricht, so we didn't even bother. Overall more like a 2 star than a 3 star hotel - judging by the room standard. Very disappointed considering 8.5 reviews.
Review 106:free parking, big gardens (probably great in the summer), impressive drive to the hotel
Review 107:- We found the air quality of our room unpleasantly warm. We had to open the window to let some fresh air coming in. - Mattresses could be harder, but they were good enough. - Rather pricey tourist taxes.
Review 108:- Location is great to enjoy Maastricht - Staff is very friendly - Breakfast is prepared with organic products in mind. For example, fresh orange juice. - Room was very clean
Review 109:the interior was done cheaply, trying to pull off a higher price than what should be charged. The booking.com price is also about 15% below the actual price you will pay at the hotel due to the tourist taxes.
Review 110:Location & building
Review 111:No fridge/minibar or tea/coffee facilities in the room. You have no other option except eating & drinking at hotel facilities.
Review 112:Generally good hotel. Especially good choice for a Maastricht city trip with car. Beautiful building. Nice garden. Large double room. Perfect wifi performance.
Review 113:The room was tiny, with narrow windows. It was a big contrast with the facade of the castle - we were disappointed.
Review 114:Good location, looks good on the outside, wonderful breakfast, clean room
Review 115:Restaurant, diner was cold and very poor Bed, too soft for my taste New building takes away from the whole idea of sleeping in a old estate
Review 116:Location and old house Breakfast
Review 117:There is absolutely nothing that I do not like here!
Review 118:I always come back here when travelling in the area, they have sometimes excellent deals that beats all surrounding other hotels. I like the location, very landscaping area and huge, clean, FREE parking. Internet is perfect and also free. Breakfast is not cheap, but in line with other surrounding hotels. Staff is very friendly and helpful . I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone who loves location/tranquility and atmosphere for an affordable price.....
Review 119:Haven't stayed more time :(
Review 120:I loved to feel like a king when driving through the property doors. Relaxing atmosphere, very outdoorsy feeling but in the city Weird art collection throughout the property grounds
Review 121:A bit far from Maastricht, about 10min drive (15euro by taxi). we asked for a double bed but got 2 singles next to each other
Review 122:The castle and its gardens are great! Walking inside and outside is very nice. Breakfast was great.
Review 123:To much a conference center when it could appeal to both the business and tourist traveler.
Review 124:Absolutely enjoyed walking the grounds surrounding the hotel.
Review 125:No coffee/tea facilities in room - other than that, nothing to dislike.
Review 126:Fantastic building in beautiful garden setting. Quiet, as away from main road. Did not have evening meal in restaurant, but lunch was good and the breakfast buffet had everything you could want. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and room was good. Shame we only stayed for 1 night!
Review 127:Room is way, way too simple. Nothing more than a clean 2star hotel room. It is a little bit a pitty given the rest of the property. Overpriced (but this seemed to be a special period). In normal time, this is a 90-100€/night breakfast included hotel room. Therefore, we recommend depending on the cost.
Review 128:Location is OK but one needs a car to go to Maastricht. The place is nice, old property with style. Beautiful gardens. Breakfast was OK, everything was fresh. In summary : 2star rooms + 4star lobby and rest of the building = 3 star hotel.
Review 129:To much office feeling in the hotel interior. Not the rooms , they are very nicely decorated. The lobbies and restaurant should have more of a home feeling
Review 130:Overall the place is good. But it could be even better. It's clearly focused on business clients therefore the place is decorated like an office. Better more home oriented furniture could make the place much warmer. The restaurant could also do with a makeover, in decoration and in food. The rooms are very nice, the staff is very nice , the location is very nice, so why not make the restaurant very nice instead of very average.
Review 131:No tea/coffee in the room, no room service, while checking out we were told that the hotel has a change of policy and in future no dogs are allowed in the hotel.
Review 132:Great Location, lovely garden, free parking, good room, beautiful building, good restaurant and cafe, possible to bring dog, friendly staff
Review 133:Water features in grounds seemed to lack full care and attention. main lake fountain not operational. Shame there is no pool facility.
Review 134:Relaxed atmosphere, grounds. Menu choice and food quality. Service from staff excellent.
Review 135:No complaints at all
Review 136:The room was clean, comfortable and had an excellent shower. Very quiet, so slept well. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Very good stay.
Review 137:No tea and coffee facilities in bedroom. Restricted dinner menu for Andre Rieu period Small bedrooms a bit like a pod.
Review 138:The grounds are pleasant to walk in. Friendly staff throughout the hotel. Cleanliness, the hotel was spotless.
Review 139:Most visitors were Dutch or Belgian so the hotel catered for them. However, there were visitors from elsewhere and as most of them will have English as a first or second language the hotel could have done more to help them, for example by having the hotel guide in the rooms available in English. Hotel meals seemed rather expensive compared to restaurants in Maastricht.
Review 140:The grounds are exceptional and made for a very enjoyable evening walk. Friendly staff - always helpful and doing their best. Breakfast - a variety of good quality options in a continental style. Close enough to central Maastricht to go by bike. Bike hire at the hotel. Room was small but comfortable and clean. There were fantastic views over the extensive gardens from our room.
Review 141:The only comment was it was difficult to find from the road we came in from - it needs a signpost there. Other than that nothing to dislike.
Review 142:The hotel was set in a beautiful old château surrounded by wonderful gardens. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Staff were all friendly and helpful. We had a fantastic time and would recommend this hotel to friends.
Review 143:The food could be better, breakfasts were good, but the evening dinners were not always up to standard.
Review 144:The standard of the rooms which were clean and comfortable, all of the building was interesting and pleasant, and the grounds were a pleasure to sit in and have a drink. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 145:Nothing not to like about the Hotel, but to make the rooms a bit more comfortable,it would be nice to have Coffee & Tea making facilities, coffee not always available late in the evening in the bar. A bit more storage space for clothing would be good with more clothes hangers.
Review 146:A quiet location, with great landscaped gardens along with the Lake & Sheep. Very comfortable and clean and friendly staff. A nice surprise just 10 minutes from Maastricht.
