Reviews for db San Antonio Hotel + Spa
Review 1:All the eating and drinking rooms apart from the main restaurant had televisions in nobody seemed interested and was a distraction.
Review 2:Good location for visiting other areas good quality food and drinks. There is something for everyone at this hotel. Good value for money.
Review 3:Stayed over the new year and the entertainment on New Year's Eve was shocking. Complained to staff along with many locals who where staying the night but fell on deat ears. The animation team who were supposed to entertain the children were also a big let down and came up with excuse after excuse.
Review 4:Staff very good and hotel very clean. Indoor pool was a bonus.
Review 5:There was a really great variety of food, but all was a bit tasteless.
Review 6:We loved the seaview and king size bed. Also it was really nice that we got to keep our all inclusive bracelets the whole day on check-out day. The entertainment was good.
Review 7:I'm gluten free which I told them in beforehand and they confirmed it is no problem. However they didn't have G-signs for foods so I always had to ask for chef and wait for them to explain what's in each (and try to remember). This would have worked somehow although waiting was not good when I had to go after the kids. They usually had eaten already when I got my food. But the most serious part was that they didn't seem to know what is gluten free. This level of restaurant should be more professional in handling special diets. They happily claimed they can prepare special foods - but I as a customer don't want to spend my holiday in cellar restaurant waiting for some special cooking when my kids already run to the sunshine to swim or play.
Review 8:Room was perfect for us - two beds separately upstairs There was plenty of food and with great variety
Review 9:The tourism agency operating in the hotel lobby offers trips at higher prices than their coleagues (from the same agency) around the corner. The hop-on hop-off trips offered there are slightly more expensive and less punctual than the public hop-on hop-off service. In our oppinion, this is a tourist trap that such a high-standard hotel should not allow operating in its lobby. Some of the pubs across the street can be noisy sometimes. The air conditioning yielded very dry air.
Review 10:The food was good, plentiful, varied; there are 4 restaurants to choose from for dinner: all have really good food, but we found dBistro (reservation needed!) to be the best. The staff were very nice and helpful. We were satisfied with the service, including the cleanliness. Guests can suntan at two pools and one beach. There are showers by the pools. The rooftop offers one of the pools and a nice place to view the sunset. Public transportation is available in close proximity, for any destination on the main island or for the ferry connection. The Aquarium is a nearby attraction (10 minutes of slow walk or one bus stop).
Review 11:As an all inclusive - excellent value for money. Don't expect the "four seasons," but food and service was fabulous. Room rather basic but fine, bed comfortable.
Review 12:The reception staff weren't always the best, they didn't seem to want to deal with any problems and were very slow to address any issues, the lifts are a nightmare they stop at every floor every time you would have to allow for travelling time to go anywhere in the hotel. The spa and different restaurants were great but the hotel should advise when booking that they have to be booked well in advance or you may not get a slot.
Review 13:The location was excellent, pools were lovely and the food was very good
Review 14:No bad experience at all, this is why we will visit again and again. As long as we can stay on ground or first floor. But although knowing it is All Inclusive we did find it a bit expensive. Also if I may add and I know that nothing can be done about it, being in a wheelchair it was hard to push it on the corridor carpets. It was a bit stressful on my elbows. Luckily my wife was with me and every time I needed something for our room she went up to get it.
Review 15:This being our third visit to the hotel and had a wonderful stay. The staff were excellent and the food was great. Rooms were cleaned daily.
Review 16:Spacious room but located on the 8th floor just underneath the roof pool. Awake at 6:30 when the pool circulation pumps start. Whole day a rumbling sound in the room until 18:30 when the pool closes. Avoid 8th floor if you want some peace and quiet.
Review 17:Paradoxically the roof pool is an oasis of rest for adults: no children below 16y/o are allowed on top which keeps the youth's vivacity centered around the larger pools below. Staff friendliness beyond reproach. Gastronomical choice was on the whole satisfying with some highs and lows.
Review 18:Bed was a little hard and the air con did take awhile to kick in and cool the room, but minor complaints overall
Review 19:Option of pools for categories of travelers was great ie adult's only pools. Food for an all inclusive resort was the best I've had!!
Review 20:The food was a bit tasteless and boring. The lifts!!!!
Review 21:nice room with a breathtaking view. Good beds, two bathrooms!!!!The pool on the roof was perfect.
Review 22:Got charged more than what booking.com quoted me, paid flr a room with a balcony and and sea view, Balcony was barely big enough for 2 people and the view was mainly of rooftops and little and sea view in the corner, when complained got told we would be charged for moving room.
Review 23:Food was good with lots of variety
Review 24:The food wasn't great. Lots of it but quite tasteless and not very hot. Felt a bit like school dinners. Ice creams not included in the all inclusive deal yet you could have as many beers as you wanted! The lift system was very slow.
Review 25:Paid extra for a sea view - well worth it. Lovely room, the pool was brilliant, roof top terrace was gorgeous. We went all inclusive so it was easy to get drinks, snacks etc. Everywhere was immaculately clean. Entertainment available if you like that sort of thing.
Review 26:Two of the hotel restaurants must be accessed from the street? The pool is much smaller than the publicity photo. Very disappointed to find 2 single beds placed together instead of a matrimonial bed which I had asked for in the booking.
Review 27:I enjoyed the b'fast. Room very silent
Review 28:Building work in progress. Other than that not at all to complain about.
Review 29:The staff were well organised, plenty of them. Food was really good quality and the reception staff and Jacob the waiter makes an outstanding cocktail Santantonio special!! Well done guys, you make our stay feel very special. Ps cakes in the coffee shop amazing.
Review 30:the bed was too stiff.the toilet is too near the wall.a tall person would definatly not be able to use it.the indoor pool is too small for the ammount of people the hotel have.
Review 31:Entertainment in the hotel was great.the gym was clean and equiped.the location good as it is near to lots of amneties
Review 32:room furniture was very basic, bathroom utensiles was very poor, no soap bars, neither toothbrush, or body lotions and shampoos which other hotels of similiar category they provide, not enough blankets, breakfast was rather poor, not enough fresh fruit, not enough variety, there was o water jugs provided, and it had only two choices of juices,( orange and pomplain juices, only ), the services they provided it not of a four star hotel, so much of cost cutting! Besides they charged us 5 euros for using theirparking and ince we arrived there around 5pm it was valid only uptill midnight, therefore they wanted to charge us another 5 euros from midnight uptill 11 am of the ext day, this should be free since we are hotel guest or at least 5 euros for the whole night!
Review 33:the lobby room was really nice, staff was very friendly , especially the receptionists.
Review 34:No drinking water was provided in the room. Other guests can easily climb over balcony walls and see into the room.
Review 35:The room was great - very spacious. Breakfast was excellent. Balcony facility was nice (amazing view).
Review 36:the indoor pool was over crowded.the floor around it very slippery.... The bed was too hard for me
Review 37:The food was great value optimum cleanliness. The staff were pleasant
Review 38:Weather was a little poor during our visit but the hotel made up for it greatly with the many spa facilities as well as the heated indoor pool and jacuzzi.
Review 39:I did not liked that the outflow of my shower was not working and the maintance could not fix it. As well the internet for free is slooooooow :-(
Review 40:I liked the upgrade of my room
Review 41:I'm a bit of a coffee addict - There was no freshly brewed coffee served at breakfast, only Nescafe. Otherwise the breakfast provided was excellent.
Review 42:- Free Wi-fi throughout the building. - Large rooms. - Bed was very comfortable.
Review 43:warren. noisy and depressing. The rooms and the floors have nothing to do with 4 stars hotel. thin walls, I heard party in the room next door all night. after you go inside from the lobby the whole place turning to something else, reminds me to huge a freeway-motel. booked a double bed got a twin. no comment... the confimation said minibar in the room there was only an empty fridge... confirmation said iron supplements in room, nothing of that. no sport chanels in tv. only unwatchable tvshop chanels. poor wifi system. why do they need super secured wifi system on the floors? nooe can reach that from outside. it dropped me off after every 30 mins and had to do the uncomfy login procedure again and again.
Review 44:the lobby is really nice down, only thing reminds me for the 4 stars. nice gym. nice spa section. satisfying breakfast.
Review 45:At times, there was a particular smell in the rooms but the overall experience was too wonderful to deter us from having a good time. I was also a little disappointed to find 2 single beds placed together instead of a matrimonial bed that we asked for but will be sure to call the hotel for this beforehand the next time we book.
Review 46:We loved the cleanliness, organisation, room sizes and decor. Although the hotel was full, it was quiet. The indoor pool is excellent and the breakfast and dinner are abundant and with an excellent variety. We will definitely return and soon.
Review 47:Entertainment amateurish on the night we stayed .Indoor pool area is rather dark .Fruit juice at breakfast wasn't good .
Review 48:Very relaxing hotel pleasing decor .All Staff helpful and welcoming. There was a problem with the bed but it was soon arranged. The showers in the bathroom are fantastic .Breakfast-an amazing choice to suit every taste.Excellent position to go out for a meal in the evening especially to Ta Pawla across the road!
Review 49:Hotel is finished to a poor standard or workmanship, out door hot was meant to be open all year round but had no water in it!! Roof pool would look stunning if it was ever open with less builders, air con blows out hot and cealing fan didn't work. Bedroom walls are made of paper
Review 50:Reception area is amazing with friendly staff, great location for buses and resuarants just a short walk. Hotel will be a true 4* in a couple of years time maybe but not yet, still needs to much work and would probably be better in the summer (we went in winter and weather was great hotel let us down)
Review 51:The indoor pool had excess chlorine in it. My vision was cloudy for over an hour after just because I opened my eyes under water. And it wasn't just me.
Review 52:The attention of the head chef for my wife's food allergy.
Review 53:The breakfast room was terribly chaotic and noisy. Many finishings were generally poor.
Review 54:The room was really big, with two independent bathrooms and two balconies.
Review 55:Some of the hotel rooms dont have a very good view, but there's not much you can do about that and it never bothered us!
Review 56:This is our 2nd visit to this hotel and it has been completely refurbished since the 1st visit - it looks very smart! The entertainment is great, plenty of choice at breakfast, lovely pool area. Good location near the bus station, shops and restaurants. Wi-fi connection was good. Staff are very nice. I would come again.
Review 57:The room that we were given was for disabled persons, but the only thing is that in the bath room the shower has no curtains, therefor the bathroom floor will be full of water and it would be dangerous and slippery.
Review 58:The room was very simple but very elegant. Seeing that both my wife and me are disabled we found it very good. The breakfast and dinner were very varied. The entertainment every evening was very nice and even though it is in a holiday place it is self sufficient.
Review 59:We arrived there to find the room flooding with water since it was raining outside. I understand there was storm outside but I do not expect to find our room flooding with water. When we asked the receptions to change our room she told us they couldn't as all rooms were occupied and she insisted that we stay for at least 1 night and she will change our room in the morning. I am sorry but we couldn't stay in such horrible conditions the room was cold, water was coming in from the balcony with the doors closed. I never expected this hotel to be so terrible ! it used to be much better before it was refurbished. Our weekend break lasted only a few minutes as we asked for our money back left the hotel and returned home.
Review 60:Nothing
Review 61:The hotel can become very busy and the breakfast room noisy when full of people.
Review 62:The hotel is very close to the bus station which offers excellent service around Malta especially to the sirport, ferry to Gozo and Valletta. Also, there are many shops supermarket nearby. The promenade - for long seaside walks is just around the corner.
Review 63:- Not proffesional stuff!- VERY VERY unfriendly staff! - STUPID HOTEL RULES! - first day we didnt get key to our room, becouse women in reception forgot. - second day we didnt get towel card, and recepcionist treat us like criminalist - thrid day SPA stuff dont want to change our towels(for fresh), and scream for us when we want to go for a pool. She treat us like criminalist too. - fourth day, women from stuff open our room when we take a shower about 9 o clock!! and ask when we leave hotel. next they twice time call to us for one hour, with the same question ?! STUPID !? - not proffesional stuff in BREAKFAST RESTAURANT, all girls from like probation(students? slow, lazy, unflrendly) - small indoor pool
Review 64:- Very nice location- beautyfull view from balcony - roof pool was nice - clean room and toilet - the best italian restaurant in city near to this hotel - a'Napoli (5 minutes walk)
Review 65:My mother left a blouse in her room, I contacted the hotel the same day that we left, and even asked a friend who lives in Malta to call in the following day, but he was told that unless it was a passport, it was a staff perk! I thought that was disgusting!!! I would never stay there again!
Review 66:Rooms were pleasant.
Review 67:Inadequate airconditioning could not cope with a building that retains heat to a very high degree. This made sleep very difficult on the hot mattresses. No central button to call a lift means everyone presses every button, so every lift journey is constantly stopping... must be a nightmare in the busy season. The coffee choice at poolside and restaurant was whatever comes out of a Nescafe push-button espresso machine... yuk. These details spoil an otherwise excellent hotel.
Review 68:Very good beds, except the mattresses were quite hot. Very good quality breakfasts - even the scrambled egg was extremely good, which is a very rare achievement for mass catering. Spectacular views from the adults-only rooftop pool.
Review 69:Wasn't much we didn't like. Our first room was next to the pump room for the swimming pool and the humming noise almost all night was dreadful, we couldn't get to sleep. but as we stated we were moved the next morning so it wasn't an issue after that. We tried on several occasions to connect to the Wi-Fi but it wouldn't work.
Review 70:We really enjoyed our week at this hotel. Lovely pool area with lots of sun loungers. The infinity pool on the roof of the hotel is adult only and this was a great idea. The animation team are excellent, work really hard, put on some really good shows and are a lot of fun and are so helpful. The staff at the hotel are very pleasant, and very eager to help resolve a problem we had. Our room didn't suit and we relayed this to reception, we were moved to another room the next morning without any fuss. The spa treatments we had were wonderful and the atmosphere was lovely. The food was very good. The rooms are nicely decorated and a lovely big bathroom. The hotel is very well located, the bus terminal is a 3 minute walk away and there are lots of lovely bars, restaurants and shops all walking distance away. The hotel was spotless clean and the toilets were clean any time we used them even though the hotel was busy. A very enjoyable stay at the San Antonio hotel and spa. Well done to every one.
Review 71:On the second last day of my stay the phone in my room was dissconnected. When I brought this to the attention of the reception staff I received a stoney faced response as if they didn't know why. It was a time when I required a phone when my mobile was out of order.
Review 72:Liked the location and restaurants
Review 73:there could have been more information re taxi bookings from hotel. staff very vague re Mass times in local chapel.standard of workmanship very poor for new building. mainly british expats on street trying to get you to buy time share holidays etc and wasting your valuable time.
Review 74:liked location, spacious room, well kept facilities in room, very nice cleaning staff, very good food, lots of seating at pool,
Review 75:Staff at Kosy bar very lazy. No hot water in room for 2 days. Waited 2 days for shower gel in room to be refilled. No hair shampoo, conditioner or body lotion in room. Advised not to drink water from taps but no complimentary bottled water supplied at least for the first day. Luckily there is a supermarket nearby so went & bought. Very high room price for a so called 4 star hotel.
Review 76:Staff at reception were very helpful & friendly. Breakfast was very good.
Review 77:We had an issue with the lift on our first day. My partner and I entered the lift on the 9th floor and as it started to descend the lift dropped what felt like a couple of floors until the inertia brakes activated and brought the lift to a sudden stop. My partner was extremely shaken and upset. she has always had a fear of lifts. She suffered panic and anxiety attacks during the stay and is still suffering now. We saw the management and requested that we were moved to a lower floor. We have never had an apology but were offered an upgrade to half board. Which we declined as we were in Malta to visit family and dined out each night.
Review 78:Location, Breakfast Pool area
Review 79:This hotel now stands head and shoulders above most of the surrounding area for quality. Lack of direct access to sea front from rear pool area. They have made room hanging storage worse (since 2012). Evening meal buffet was adequate but not as good as breakfast.
Review 80:Roof and indoor pools. Décor. helpful staff. Room size and quality. Balcony and sea view. Air con. Breakfast. New main swimming pools. Shower room. Proximity to other restaurants (we were B & B). Café. Fridge and safe in room. Generally quiet at night. Efficiently run. Friendly family feel to the whole area. Value for money in neighbouring shops and restaurants.
Review 81:Sunbeds too close together and not enough sunshades. Loud music in pool area. Evening entertainment too loud. Dreadful coffee. Not a hotel for guests who are looking for a relaxing hotels. Smoking allowed in all areas outdoors,. Should have non smoking areas.
Review 82:Comfortable rooms with good air con. Good choice at breakfast. Views from rooftop infinity pool. Free WiFi with good coverage throughout hotel. Central location in resort.
Review 83:Only 5 lifts for 10 floors was frustrating but you just have to remember you are on holiday and don't need to rush to be anywhere. No help with luggage, we arrived at midnight tired and with 4 big bags of heavy scub gear which we had to negotiate in the lifts ourselves. Hotel carpark was not in use due to using it to store building materials however when it is open again you don't need to pay the €5 a day parking because there is loads of free carparking on street and around the back of the supermarket only 1 street away.
Review 84:August was completely full but there was no lack of food or tables at breakfast and plenty of staff, which was refeshing compared to some hotels. There are so many places to eat nearby that we only had breakfast in the hotel. A suite with seaview was only £100 more for a week and definitely worth it for lots of space and we had 2 bathrooms! Wifi in the room was perfect at all times and free! Adults only rooftop pool was a must for a peaceful dip in busy August. Very small amount of work still ongoing but did not disturb us at all.
Review 85:having just had a big refurbishment and more rooms added there was still ongoing work to complete. my room had a door which led into a shaft that dropped the full height of the building but there was no lock on the door to prevent anyone going into the shaft (young child) and nothing to prevent anyone working in the shaft entering room from shaft
Review 86:overall it was good
Review 87:Lack of bottled water in room Need to ask to have floor in bathroom washed Small room Extremely small shower Lower pool not comfortable for swimming as it was basically a children's playground
Review 88:Food Nice towels
Review 89:The place isn't totally finished from being refurbished so we had no water the first day and night that we were there. We had to "wash" and "flush" the toilet with 5 small bottles of mineral water. The AC wasn't working on the second night so we couldn't sleep because of the heat. This again was due to the fact that the refurbishments weren't finished. There was a lot of noise from construction work going on...because the refurbishments weren't finished!!!!
Review 90:Infinity pool was for adults only and was therefore really nice and quiet. It also had an amazing view. Breakfast buffet had loads of options and everything was very good. The hotel was newly refurbished so the room was very nice and new. The view from our sea-view room was out of this world!
Review 91:Only that the hotel was not completely finished. Other than that I didn't dislike anything.
Review 92:I liked that there was plenty of sun beds and towels. Breakfast was plentiful with lots to choose from. Rooms where clean and comfortable. Decor was modern.
Review 93:Unfriendly and rude personell at the reseption desk. Long lines to get coffee and juice at breakfast. Water at the balcony that dripped in through open pipeline. Slow serving staff all over the hotel.
Review 94:Nothing realy.
Review 95:Hotel was water damaged due to leaking ventilation system. First room was small and damp. Renovation ongoing from early morning till late. Breakfast was unvaried and mess hall like.
Review 96:Pool, hotel architecture, localization and ambience. When we asked for a room without water damage we immediately got a dry room with a view. Nice shops and restaurants in the vicinity.
Review 97:Lifts took ages.
Review 98:The rooftop terrace and pool is fantastic. Amazing views. The hotel is spotlessly clean, lovely inside, great breakfast and excellent air conditioning in rooms.
Review 99:We asked for a "sea view" and we got "half a see view". We were located on the side of the hotel with half the view on the sea and half the view on the town. Breakfast sometimes not very good, fruits were not fresh. Hotel was still in construction so there were some works during the day. Pool is ok but quiet small compared to this big hotel.
Review 100:Location near the center town, quality of the rooms, clean rooms, equipment (gym, spa)
Review 101:slightly rough around the edges when you look closely - plaster off walls etc. but they are refurbishing so snagging on going.
Review 102:good, comfortable room, clean and spacious. plenty of sunbeds. Good food with plenty of choice.
Review 103:I didn't like the way some of the reception and maintenance staff where unhelpful. I understand that they are the first people guests bring a complaint too, but I felt that they had heard all the complaints before and where uninterested. They have to realise that we the guests, have saved up all year to holiday in their hotel and any complaints are upsetting to us. The fact that the hotel is still being refurbished is another story altogether.
Review 104:The pool area was lovely, clean and with plenty of sunbeds. The decor was very modern and the bedrooms where comfortable. The breakfast was very nice, with plenty to choose from.
Review 105:Check in was very late-room too small-paid for a seaview and we were placed in what i describe more as a box room and the only view we had from the whole which was supposed to be our balcony was the concrete roof of the bar, further more the bathroom had water running down from the ceiling and i had to keep moping occasionally and finally we had only the BBC to watch on telly
Review 106:Parts the hotel still under restructuring especially roof deck which was really unsafe and disorganised...once during brkfast a labourer, having soiled clothes, was seen eating breakfast together with the tourists...
Review 107:Excellent service and food....facilities are beautiful and organized
Review 108:I liked The facilities, the environment and the friendly staff
Review 109:The AC system could have been better.
Review 110:Animation and kindness of personal.
Review 111:food. dirty beach
Review 112:good location close to beach
Review 113:building work still going on. moved room 4 times.
Review 114:clean modern hotel
Review 115:Wanted a double bed not two singles pushed together
Review 116:Everything was extremely immaculate
Review 117:little
Review 118:most
Review 119:Location
Review 120:No beach in vicinity and the town looks and needs a face lift
Review 121:The hotel offered excellent value for money and its location was also good
Review 122:the indoor pool is small
Review 123:the bed
Review 124:Requested a room with a double bed and a bath but they did not deliver.
Review 125:value for money
Review 126:Nothing :)
Review 127:Everything :)
Review 128:the indoor pool is too small
Review 129:the food is very good
Review 130:The area is a dump always been a dump for the past 3 years anyway, if your not over 60 you will be gutted
Review 131:Clean
Review 132:lights went out twice water in bathroom
Review 133:the receptionists were polite and efficient - breakfast was good
Review 134:No wi-fi. We were trying few devices, no conection!
Review 135:very unreliable internet
Review 136:good price
Review 137:Noisey children paying with balls in the indoor pool
Review 138:the customer service
Review 139:We had problems with flushing only.
Review 140:Didn't like the Kosy Bar, too big and impersonal
Review 141:The staff were friendly and helpful. Room spotless Location good for buses
Review 142:No sun in room
Review 143:Good breakfast, comfortable bed, very Central & quiet
