Reviews for Simmons Motel and Suites

Review 1:The room was incredibly hot, even with the heat turned off. The shower was very small and made showering difficult for adults.

Review 2:The location was fantastic and the price was very good especially for New Year's Eve.

Review 3:the coffee and tea water did not seem to get refilled often. The thermostat in the room did not work and it did get a little cool in the room when the weather got colder. We did not ask about the issue.

Review 4:Location was great and price was good. The front desk was very helpful when she was there.

Review 5:The heat didn't work, the curtains appeared to have blood stains and there were dead spiders under the covers. Also, if its your thing, the weed smell was a great attraction.

Review 6:The room needed updating. The carpet had stains, the room smelled musty, the tiles in the bathroom needed grout, and the chair was old.

Review 7:Friendly staff. Close to all attractions.

Review 8:Arrived the day before Thanksgiving. Was not told upon checking in therewould not be maid service for Thanksgiving day. Since no service wasprovided for the day we inquired and asked for some refund. Was told"no" and "sorry" that they had forgotten to tell us.The room was very shabby and the furniture was beat up. A makeshift deskwas made of a different dresser piece laid on top of the other. It wasvery tacky.

Review 9:Good location

Review 10:hairs were found in bedding. could not sleep in sheets. Had to sleep on top blanket. No primary source of heat. Room was equipped with space heaters. No heat in the bathroom

Review 11:cozy for a suite, nice rooms

Review 12:We asked not to be disturbed and only needed fresh new towels and toiletries and was answered right away. So close to Hershey park and other stores. Restaurants and 2 walmarts within like 5-6 miles we would come again thanks for a great service ??????

Review 13:The bed was a little squeaky, but comfortable for the night.

Review 14:We loved the character of this hotel. The older woman at the front desk was incredibly sweet and immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable upon arrival. I believe she said she was in her 90's. After meeting her, we knew that we had made the best choice.

Review 15:The tv n refrigerator could use up dated, no closet to hang clothes in or real place to put your luggage on, was there in the beginning of October n the heat was not turned on, tried the thermostat but nothing came on, the room had a strange but clean smell might have been the carpet .

Review 16:Location is geat, staff very friendly, the location is well lighted at night, they are renovatioing things which is good, have stayed here twice because it's handy to the medical center n central located by restaurants with great food. It's great that it's family owned and operated

Review 17:Train and traffic sounds nearby. location is about 1.5 miles from Hershey entrance, if you walk, otherwise you need to travel 10 miles around the whole park property by car to enter the park entrance.

Review 18:Has 2 bedroom apartment for whole family of 6, and a full kitchen and living room. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 19:We love it here! We come every fall to go to Hershey Park and we always stay here. The staff remember us and are always friendly and willing to help out in any way they can.

Review 20:its an older and really needs alot to be updated.

Review 21:It was cute and a nice location and I was impressed with the size of the suite. It felt more like we where in a small apartment.

Review 22:Paper thin walls, beware of 48 hr cancellation -not posted, no breakfast or restaurants within walking distance, train runs too close, very noisy, pricey for no amenities

Review 23:They posted that it's a12 min walk to Hershey park, I don't see how. 8 min drive.

Review 24:My family and I went down during the RV show and everything was wonderful. Already made my reservations for next year. They are in the process of remolding the rooms but we had was that was already remolded. The other rooms was nice as well. The atmosphere of the motel was nice.

Review 25:Location close to the Giant Center for RV show but off the main touristy area of Hershey Park & Chocolate World. Staff was very helpful in looking up Yelp ratings for some local eats. Rooms were kept very clean and were very well decorated. Room rate very competitive.

Review 26:1. Booking confirmation indicated coffee machine in room. There was not one, and when we asked the manager for one, he shrugged and said there should be one there, and that he didn't have any others, and told me we could just go down to the lobby and get some coffee.2. Plug for microwave and refrigerator was partially blown, so only one could be plugged in at one time. 3. Shower handle fell off in my hand - trial and error showed us we had to push IN hard to keep it on and use it. 4. Did NOT have sufficient parking - when we told manager there was no place to park, he said to park around the back on the next property (still theirs) where there was 1 spot next to a boat and another under a low lying tree. He also shrugged and said he didn't know where the other 5 guests who hadn't yet checked in were going to park.

Review 27:Convenient to the Hershey arena and to restaurants.

Review 28:There was long black hair on the pillow cases, in the sink and in the bath tub. The towels smelled used. I tried calling down and could not get a hold of anyone. It was gross and I was very very disappointed! I would never stay there again

Review 29:The location

Review 30:Several outlets weren't working, including one of two tvs, may just have been a circuit breaker, but I didn't care enough to deal with the problem. No hair dryer.

Review 31:Very comfortable, great location, clean, affordable, actually cute!

Review 32:One thing,it may be petty...the smallest TV's...but we were very happy staying there for a few days.

Review 33:I had an absolutely wonderful visit. Warm, friendly staff, clean facilities and I love the old fashioned charm. A down to earth, hometown feeling when you stay here.

Review 34:The breakfast was just donuts and there were not very many, although there was coffee available. There were no vending machines. The ice machine was there but difficult to find.

Review 35:The location was great. The room was clean and a nice size. The bathroom was clean. The staff was very helpful.

Review 36:Very friendly staff and generally gave you a good vibe about the whole place. Felt safe in this area. The motel was right on the main strip and we could walk to the Hershey Park or the Chocolate Museum in 10 minutes

Review 37:First night around 9:30pm the fire alarms went off. It took some time for the manager to get around to turn it off...they are all hooked up together so I assume he had to go from apartment to apartment. I was just glad it wasn't 2am. A coffee pot would have also been nice since all the places in the area had awful coffee.

Review 38:We booked a suite and upon arrival the girl at the desk told us they had to change our room because they found a leak. It was actually an upgrade to a very nice apartment. Yes, it is older but was very cozy. It was more on the lines of a bed and breakfast without the breakfast, although they did offer coffee and fruit in their main building but we did not stop in for any. Overall very pleased with our stay.

Review 39:For the amount of money I paid for the room I expect something a little more up to date and not so 80'sish. I could have gotten a room at the Marriott for what I paid.

Review 40:When I checked in, the staff told me there were pastries and juice the next morning. The next morning when I went to get some, there was no food and no staff, so I picked up the phone. That staff said they do not offer any pastries or juice. It got discontinued during the night??

Review 41:AC did not work to well. Requested for repair ( maintenance just turned the knob to low... like I didn't notice). Not enough parking, We had to park on main road. Beds we're not comfortable. TV was a 20" or so in the corner of the room. Fridge had rust on the corner

Review 42:Pleasant staff, close to attractions

Review 43:Need to update TV and have a better breakfast

Review 44:The apartment we stayed in was perfect. It was dated but had everything u need. Next time we will stay for 3 days and really kick back and enjoy

Review 45:There was not enough private parking for the amount of guests that they had. The price was high when you compare staying at a Hershey resort or even a bigger brand hotel vs staying at this motel.

Review 46:The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 47:We felt like time travelers when we stepped into our room. The comfortable decor, light fixtures and furnishing took us back to the 1950's. The only evidence of the 21st century was a flat screen TV. Owner Mary Simmons (92-years-old) and her daughter, Gail, are on the property and welcome guests. They are adorable. We would recommend this motel to those who wish to enjoy the past.

Review 48:Though our room set-up was nontraditional, it was wonderful to have 2 bedrooms and a separate bath. The rooms are clean, the staff is very friendly. We stay here every year, and plan to continue staying at this hotel.

Review 49:The website had pictures that didn't match the "apartment" the appliances were older than me. There was a rolling bed in the kitchen, and the front door led into a bedroom.

Review 50:They did pit us is a newer version of the apartment.

Review 51:Wifi was difficult to connect to. Very little parking on lot & street parking makes it difficult to carry luggage to room.

Review 52:Much bigger than anticipated, much like an apartment without a kitchen which gave everyone space. Staff was very friendly & helpful. Excellent for families with children but if traveling with small children i would ask for rooms on the bottom floor because the steps inside are steep and open on the top floor.

Review 53:Our second night stay when we got back from t Hershey Park the beds were made poorly and trash was not taken out. My husband went to front desk to let them know about the trash and the girl did apologize and said she wasn't sure why they didn't take it out but never sent anyone in our room to take it out.

Review 54:That you can walk to Hershey Park.

Review 55:The size of the place is very misleading!!! The website pictures led me to believe I would be getting a little kitchen at least it was really hard to trying to give the little ones food. And no coffee pot in room

Review 56:It was cute and nice people

Review 57:As a family that traveled together we were seperated by the accommodation there

Review 58:The location of the hotel to the park was great I'm proud of the choice I made.

Review 59:People who have kids need to teach them to behave in the rooms. Heard a lot of running and jumping, they couldn't sit still.

Review 60:Walking distance to all the attractions at Hershey

Review 61:Only didn't like that we didn't have a coffee maker in the room

Review 62:Owner and family were fun and welcoming! Very accommodating if we needed anything.

Review 63:It isn't the lap of luxury, but it is a good, conveniently located, option for those, like me, on a budget. The gentleman at the front desk was very pleasant. Our room,10B, was clean and nice enough. Simmons is a good-value, locally owned, place in a land of higher priced chains. I'd happily stay there again.

Review 64:The staff was nice, and it was an older motel but they keep it up. was clean and always had fresh towels. In walking distance to Hershey Park and the Hershey Museum. Shopping outlets are less than 5 miles away.

Review 65:The website said the rooms had coffee makers and did not. There was coffee in the lobby in the mornings though. Also there was loud construction noise in the alley on the first morning of our stay. We got up a little earlier than we had planned due to the noise level. The walk to Hershey Park was a little dangerous going under the railroad bridge. However, it was still easier than trying to park our car and find the park entrance, very confusing.

Review 66:I liked that the room was clean and the location was very close to Hershey Park and the Hershey Museum. The beds were comfortable too. There were also restaurants close to walk to.

Review 67:As we opened the door of the room we were hit by this awful smell like dried pee it was the most disgusting smell ever! We would never expected this just awful!!

Review 68:The hotel was just a short walk from the park. Very nice walk! That was our favorite part!

Review 69:The rooms smelled of bleach and no ac was running so had to turn on ac and open doors and window to clear out the odor. The pool was collapsed and was not notified at check in. At check in we were told we could park at spot closest to stairs. When we came back after letting room air out for an hour they had begun filming hotel impossible and as we were unloading luggage we were told to move out car. No one offered to help with luggage. After we finally got luggage to room we were basically trapped in room because they were filming just outside of its location. The next morning we decided we had enough so we pulled car up to space at end of steps to load. While loading again told to move car with no offer to help load luggage. And I did after dropping off key to room

Review 70:The location was the only good thing about this hotel

Review 71:There was no lock on the bathroom door and there was no door on the 2nd bedroom. There were bees lingering outside the door and we ran across some spiders inside the apt.

Review 72:It was a good location.

Review 73:I thought the facility was nice and home like feeling. Air conditioning was very noisey, my only complaint

Review 74:Within 15min of LVC. Daughter graduated and stayed over night to be close for 10am ceremony.

Review 75:The 2 bedroom "suite" was very outdated, but was such a reasonable price it could have been over-looked. My husband, myself and another couple had booked the room to stay the night after a concert. After the concert we were deciding what to do hang out, sleep or casino? Well not sure if it was the owner or not, but a man knocked came in and said there was a complaint of being to loud. He reeked of booze and he made no sense at all. He said he was going to charge us for the "complainers" room!! Anyways, drama and hard beds!!

Review 76:Checking out.

Review 77:The TV was from the 70's, old worn pillows and stained pillow case. Being right on 422 a LOT of road noise.

Review 78:Location we walked to Hershey Park from the motel. Staff was nice and tried to accommodate any request.

Review 79:Beds were uncomfortable. Need darker curtains to block light from outside at night and morning.

Review 80:so close to hershey park walking distance! Definitely good price. Beds are not very comfortable but it was very clean and we liked the balcony seats outside of the room.

Review 81:There was not any heat in the room, when we asked at the front desk we were told "that's as warm as it gets" and we were given a electric heater for the room.

Review 82:My room was located near the office, and one of the nights a number of people were smoking outside. The smell of the cigarettes became very apparent inside my room. Very nit-picky of me, but that's my only real complaint.

Review 83:A cute family-run hotel with friendly staff, a convenient location, easy parking, and free wifi. Highly recommended!

Review 84:Nostalgia! I stayed there 52 years ago when we(Norwin High School) played in the State Basketball Championship. The rod iron railings on the balcony remind one of New Orleans!

Review 85:No control on heat so it was a little warm for me, I'm guessing it was low to mid 70's

Review 86:Had a DVD player and microwave and refrigerator. Bathroom was a nice size. Bed was comfortable and it was warm.

Review 87:I booked 2 rooms months ahead of arrival; however, only one room was available when we arrived. Because it was late, we were able to get 2 cots for the kids and had planned to share the two beds with my parents. After arriving in the room, we discovered the heat wouldn't work.

Review 88:Elderly woman owner was very sweet & pleasant. Location was great and appeared to be very quaint.

Review 89:We were near the road but if you are down low in the other rooms I think the freight trains at night would keep you up. We heard them but was not to bad in the room closer to the road.

Review 90:If you wanted to you could walk to the park from hotel

Review 91:Well the bed was like sleeping on cement. ..The wifi well what free wifi? The tv well that was older than my great great grandmother with crappy reception. ..I was up all night because the bed was so uncomfortable..The place.is Def. Not a 7.7 rating Sorry...

Review 92:Checking out was the best part...

Review 93:I did not like getting a cold shower. The water was not even lukewarm.

Review 94:I liked how everything we could have possibly needed was within walking distance. Awesome location!

Review 95:I was told I was having surgery the next day after a visit at PSHMC that day and there was a winter storm coming so I chose to stay in the Hershey area to avoid complications. I booked a room here at a great price and was delighted with the charm, cleanliness and comfort of my room. I had a very basic room, but it had both a microwave and fridge. The bed was amazing, and I would have enjoyed it even more if not for the pain I was in. I would recommend the Simmons to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable room at a great price, and check in and out were a breeze. It's got a great natural retro motel feel, and it was just what I needed.

Review 96:Pictures on website and actual look of rooms did not match. Motel did not live up to expectations.

Review 97:We were given a single bed room when room with to beds was reserved. Staff corrected mistake at no additional charge.

Review 98:No table in the room for dining. Only one small bar of soap.

Review 99:Although the room was a bit small it was clean and comfortable. Great value and fantastic location.

Review 100:The heater in the room didn't work. We only stayed overnight so we let them know when we left and they apologized and said we should have told them sooner.

Review 101:Size of the rooms, proximity to Hersheypark, convenience to restaurants, ease of check-in/out

Review 102:A bit dated, but I live in a century old Philly row house so I'm rather easy to please. Old tube TV with 27 channels. Not a big deal I just need something to watch in between getting ready and Bedtime so I found TRUtv and TVLand. We come in wintertime. The heat is radiant which is great I have in my home, BUT you have to turn the valve off because the room will get hot.

Review 103:Location, Location, Location! Walked to Chocolate World and the park for Christmas Candy Lane while cars were piling up on 422 trying to turn toward the park. Owner and Staff very friendly B&B feel with a motel set-up. The room looked like my Grandmother-in- laws home, carpeting and all. Can be charming or not for your taste

Review 104:The room was a bit small and some of the furniture is aged. There were blinds on the window instead of curtains, so the sun greets you in the morning. There was also noise from the street outside.

Review 105:The hotel is close to Hershey Park, has good lighting, and is within walking distance of many restaurants. The shower was warm and had ample water pressure. Check-in and check-out were both quick and easy.

Review 106:Room was small not good for more than one person. No storage except for small desk drawers. Refrigerator and microwave were on floor. Old model TV where reception was snowy. Little sub par place for hanging clothes. Could not figure out how to turn on shower. Toilet was really low like the ones in elementary school. Hair was left on sink and floor in bath room. Room was noisy but it did get better after 10

Review 107:Location was excellent. Check in was easy and well handled. Overall appearance of motel was very nice.

Review 108:Hubby heard the trains going through all night. I didn't. Also you could hear other people talking in other rooms.

Review 109:Walking distance to Hershy Park. Walking distance to many restaurants. Adequate parking. Clean rooms. No frills.

Review 110:absolutely nothing!

Review 111:Close to Hershey World (and that is why we were there). The staff was extremely social and helpful. We requested a ground-floor room (traveling with a 95 year old) and we were placed in such, with parking at our door! When we had issues with Mama being cold, they quickly brought in a space heater for her! It is family-run and they have personal pride in what they do!

Review 112:Decor is outdated, but for the price you can't really complain.

Review 113:We were looking for an inexpensive place to stay, and considering the price this was a great value. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean.

Review 114:Noisy area---trains ran through in the night. Arrived later in evening and had trouble finding parking. In the middle of the night, someone on our floor was smoking and it filled our room; supposed to be a non smoking hotel.

Review 115:Location right on Chocolate Ave Cheap price Room was clean and comfortable Staff friendly and gave us a late checkout and apologized for smoke smell.

Review 116:Room was very small. But overall for the price compared to other hotels in the area it was okay for a one night stay. Steps very steep so we didn't even take our luggage in.

Review 117:I liked that it was really close to Hershey park and chocolate factory.

Review 118:I wasn't expecting such a nice place for the price. The owner is an adorable old lady. The room was big and clean as well as the bathroom. I really liked it!

Review 119:Steps to the second floor were not user friendly.

Review 120:I was happy to find the two bedroom suite was very clean and comfortable. The rooms reminded me of waking up at my grandmothers place. Although somewhat dated it was clean and that is all I care about. The bathroom was also very clean. It suited our needs for a place to stay after a wedding.

Review 121:The lack of ammenities and misleading information regarding apartments. Quaint and cozy are not terms which sane people would use considering the outdated slightly smelly rooms, decor and appliances. The TV's were old circa 1990 and there was none in the master bedroom. Pool was filthy, and unusable. Front door deadbolt didn't work so my Son and I took turns standing guard over my wife and daughter thoughout the night. We were upgraded to a "nicer" apartment at no cost until I returned home and found my credit card had been the more expensive room rate. Some deal. However, if you are looking for entertainment, some members of the cast of My Name is Earl are apparently staying in the Hotel side of the facilities and will inspect your cars and find out where you are staying in order to welcome you and your family. :(

Review 122:The proximity to the park and the very nice lady who tried to help us check in when the Hotel was without power. She was very sweet and tried to help her best but the situation was very overwhelming for her. Someone should have been there to help that poor sweet lady.

Review 123:Curtains on the window to help block out the lights on the porch to make the room darker at night.

Review 124:The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Good location close to Hershey Park. Restaurants in walking distance.

Review 125:No coffee maker although promised in booking.com website. After asking for one she said as long she is working at the motel they heve never give a coffee maker , but she brought us one ( dirty and not useable ) without coffee , sugar and act. The air condition was very noisy , couldn't sleep at all. Microwave plate wasn't turning. No TV remote - after asking we receive . No soap and no shampoo was waiting for us in the bathroom. After asking , we receive simple soap no shampoo at all. Tiny room.

Review 126:Location, value for money , Hershey is a wonderfully place to be in and enjoy. Close free parking

Review 127:I didn't like that the apartment only had 1 television, when you traveled with 3 kids is good to have at least 2 TVs, it helps to keep kids entertain. Also the apartment need to have thicker curtains because the rooms are even toooooo bright at night.

Review 128:We liked the location, walking distance to major attractions.

Review 129:Nothing - it was all wonderful!

Review 130:The location was great! We stayed there on a very busy holiday weekend to attend concerts and it was only a 10 minute walk from the motel to Hershey Park stadium so we were able to avoid all the traffic (and we didn't have to pay to park)! The motel staff was awesome - so friendly and helpful! The motel room was very nice, clean and quaint. We had a great stay!

Review 131:Minor problems, like overhead light fixture didn't work, remote for TV didn't work, and towels didn't get delivered second day. Also, no shampoo or conditioner...bring your own. And soap, if you like it soft.

Review 132:The motel is fine if all you're looking for is a place to lay your head for the night, and not pay overly exorbitant prices. Staff is friendly.

Review 133:Decor was a little dated.

Review 134:Location couldn't have been better. Loved the quaintness. We stayed with our daughter and her friend for a quick getaway to Hershey. Would recommend if you are looking for good value. Room was clean and cozy.
