Reviews for Amrâth Grand Hotel de l’Empereur

Review 1:Place feels quite outdated, last refurbishment must be <10 years ago, shows everywhere. Breakfast (€15 for standard buffet) and parking (€18.50/day) are overpriced

Review 2:Great beds (but the mattresses do come apart easily). Swimming pool is nice, although it is situated in a pretty dark in the basement with little daylight

Review 3:Property is very dated. The carpeting on the floor in the rooms were stained and condition dull. The shower curtains were old and stained and too short that they do not over hang the tubs' height. The toilets were not properly clean as (minor) brown stains were noticed.

Review 4:location and staff.

Review 5:The room was very dusty. I was able to write with my finger on the furniture. It wasnt clean. The fridge didnt work. The bed was very small,a tall person would have had problems there. The breakfast was nothing special, not bad per se but far too expensive for what it was.

Review 6:STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY.

Review 7:The hotel is clean, the staff friendly, and it is located right across from the train station for easy access for travel. Maastricht is a beautiful city as well. I work almost an hour by train from this hotel, but like staying here.

Review 8:Too expensive for service provided. Some staff unfriendly and unhelpful. Last order for dinner too early at 20.45. Several light bulbs in the room were not working, and no soap was available. These were not changed by hotel staff upon complaint but guest had to go to reception to pick up the spare light bulbs and fetch soap.

Review 9:Location was good.

Review 10:For a 4 star hotel, the room was very lousy. Tiny old tv screen and Stains on the carpet (also quite ugly). The elevator was rickety, and the room was at the end of a maze of hallways and stairs. This is still Maastricht housing, just with a nicer lobby.

Review 11:We got stood up by a friend so had to get a hotel late at night (1am). They were still open and received us very fast. Room was decent and bathroom very well equiped. We never got to use it but apparently there is a spa in the hotel.

Review 12:We were two friends and had trouble getting two separate beds. This was very surprising because normally if you rent a room with two twins the assumption is they will not be attached as if they're a queen size bed. Also, rooms were a bit simple for the money paid

Review 13:Great location (right by the station).

Review 14:The interior looked a bit dated: old carpets in the hallway. Tv was very small, internet was slow.

Review 15:The room was nicely decorated, the pool was nice and the rooms was clean.

Review 16:Bit jaded - marks on walls etc. Empty and stained mini bar. Breakfast expensive so ate elsewhere. Not a good place for romance, but good basic room for us.

Review 17:Good location at train station. Comfortable beds.Overall a good place for myself and my daughter to stay.

Review 18:We stayed for 6 days, the cleaning lady didn't vacuum the room even once. The room lighting was very low even for energy saving bulbs Some of the safety boxes was really annoying to use.

Review 19:The staff were very friendly , the breakfast buffet was delightful , rooms were spacious

Review 20:The rooms were pretty warm, but perhaps that was only an incident.

Review 21:The location is perfect: close to the city centre and the central station of Maastricht.

Review 22:Older members of bar staff overbearing and sarcastic. Food- meat was lovely but no real veg just a half asparagus tip 2 little finger size carrots etc

Review 23:Position, parking, reception staff

Review 24:No complaints at all, a really good hotel all round.

Review 25:Great location by the railway and bus station, beautiful Art Nouveau building, fantastic breakfast, chose this from Bradshaw's Continental Railway guide of 1913 and it didn't disappoint!

Review 26:not cleaning cups until after 3 days. breakfast should have been a part of the hotel bill

Review 27:it was clean, quiet even in spite of the proximity to the train station.

Review 28:Decor was tired in this part of the building and the lighting was dingy.

Review 29:Bed very comfortable Excellent location next to the station, just a short walk to town. Breakfast was quite expensive, even though it was a buffet.

Review 30:Poor reception service. Very long waiting time gor check in and check up. When one of the quests asked politely if she could get any help cause he doesnt want to miss his train, the recepionist answered irriteted " I have only 2 hands"". The poorest reception service I have seen in years. Also the clininess of the room was way below the standard.

Review 31:Room was nice and spacious. We received a free upgrade which was very nice!

Review 32:All of the above

Review 33:i liked that they didnt change my towels for three days, the mold in the corners, the trash i found in the corner next to my bed from sweats, the dirty rug and sheets that were never changed

Review 34:As mentioned by other reviewers the beds really are too soft, very bad for your back. A lot of noise in the room from the bus station directly beneath the window and the train station behind it.

Review 35:Spacious room, easy to find opposite the train station. A beautiful building.

Review 36:It is not near a 4 star hotel, rooms are quite run down and beds are veeery unconfortable. Everything in the room is just 30 years old or more...and in need of renovation/painting of walls etc

Review 37:Location was great and staff was friendly

Review 38:Room looked a bit bare and there was a rotten banana in the fridge! A small oversight probably.

Review 39:Very nice restaurant. Staff retrieved my phone charger for me, that I left by accident.

Review 40:this is a poor 2 star hotel and not a 4 star hotel: rooms are run down; wallpaper is peeling, stains all oer the walls, super soft mattrasses, dirty curtains...

Review 41:Staff is very friendly and helpful, location is good, right next to the station, bathroom was decent

Review 42:The hotel does not deserve even 3 stars Wall paper piled of on several places I was first offer substandard room and ask for payment before even seen it and only after my complain I've got "better" room

Review 43:location only

Review 44:Little too close to bus and train station, good for connectivity but incessant bus engine and commuter noise very noticeable late night and early morning. Busy kebab stand right outside, and lastly bed mattresses too soft, gave me a bad back.

Review 45:Maastricht a lovely place and hotel perfect walking distance to centre.

Review 46:Bed and pillow I was not a fan of. Room itself felt a bit old. Great breakfast from 8 am around the corner at the bakery. Nice value for money.

Review 47:Great location.

Review 48:The room was a bit old. It could definitely use a fresh carpet and perhaps some extra deep cleaning of the bathroom, since there were a couple of spots of mold visible on the bathroom wall.

Review 49:Very nice and helpfull staff, very close to the trainstation and very easy to walk to the center of town. The room was nice and roomy. Airconditioning worked nicely without to much noise.

Review 50:It is a really old and outdated hotel. Breakfast is of low quality and everything at the hotel looks tired. TV from the 70's and the entire feel is of old, outdated hotel. Probably I would not recommend. It is just a place to sleep - it doesn't give you any experience in staying in a fancy hotel or something - so for this price I would stay somewhere cheaper.

Review 51:Rooms are spacious

Review 52:Room is long overdue a refurbishment, smelt of old smoke, and wasn't very quiet- you can hear quite clearly everyone walking past in the corridor outside and doors closing elsewhere in the hotel.

Review 53:Very poor amount of storage space in what was a large room ... no drawers whatsoever and only limited shelving which was poor when staying for 1 week.easily room for a chest of drawers in the room. TV had bbc1 but no bbc2. Received a thank you gift of 50 cents worth of fruit ... nice idea but very miserable.

Review 54:Location is fantastic. Air conditioning worked very well during day and in quiet mode at night.

Review 55:-The first room we got had a TV which was not working so they gave us another room which was ok. -In the bathroom the sealing was like there was a leek. - Every time when we got back to the hotel we could not open the door of our hotel room. The keycard was not working like it should.

Review 56:Cleanness of the room. It was worth it, the price we paid for it

Review 57:I must confess that I only chose to stay in Maastrricht because there was no suitable accommodation in Aachen due to the European Equestrian Championships. However I was impressed by the facilities offered by the Amrâth Grand Hotel de l’Empereur. The room was exceptionally clean and spacious (I'd just spent the previous ten days in a box room in Paris), the staff were extremely helpful, they all spoke excellent english (my dutch being non-existant) and it was ideally placed for anyone who wished to travel around the area - both the bus and the railway stations being straight across the road. The immediate vicinity was amply provided with cafes and resteraunts for those who, like me. may prefer to eat out rather than in the hotel.

Review 58:Facilities in the room were somewhat dated, the bed was made of two mattresses and had an unfitted sheet on it, which meant that a gap developed between the mattresses.

Review 59:The location was very good, the staff were helpful and friendly. The bathroom was modern.

Review 60:The mattress was terrible even though I asked well in advance for a room with a hard mattress due to back problems from clients. The room looked old and dusty. The bathroom was not very well cleaned, with little hairs and dirt on corners.

Review 61:Location

Review 62:Furnishings probably need updating but otherwise all very good.

Review 63:We had a very comfortable room with a seperate living area which was very spacious. The restaurant was excellent - the food and the staff were very good. The location is very good - close to the station and short walking distance to town.

Review 64:There was a large stain on the carpet (30cm diameter) in our guest room which was unpleasant to look at and made us doubt the cleanliness within the room even though the linen and bathroom looked fine. Tired, tattered, off white fabric chair covers should be removed, they didn't enhance the vibe in the room whatsoever! It was difficult to lug 2 heavy suitcases up the front stairs to the reception area.

Review 65:The front desk staff were very professional, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing. The close proximity to the station was a draw card as we arrived by train.

Review 66:Nothing

Review 67:From the minute we arrived the staff showed total courtesy and professionalism, nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was fantastic, location perfect right outside station and a short walk to town centre.

Review 68:Only a room with 2 single beds was available; i needed an upgrade for a double bed. By paying, this upgrade was more expensive then agreed. This was rectified, but one needs to check this!

Review 69:Nice hitel, facilities, location

Review 70:A couple of small things being improved would have increased my score ratings. Needs to have a lot more storage space, for a couple, staying a week or more, there needs to be more wardrobe space a more draws,in the room. Also, a more up to date T.V, with a much wider channel selection, would have improved our stay.

Review 71:Super location,met our requirements 100%

Review 72:the hotel is in need of refurbishment the hotel kept adding items on to our bill even after our final payment. toiletry facilities minimal bath is slippy & no bath mat

Review 73:It was close to the station It was close to the centre of town The food in the restaurant was good

Review 74:Hotel bar closed at 2 am and getting a drink after that as a resident was diffficult. Breakfast is traditional Dutch. Hot food could be done with some different choices. (fried eggs etc)

Review 75:Excellent Location directly opposite the train station. The Hotel was themed for the Andre Rieu concerts and was full with people going to the concerts. Breakfast was specially extended due to the late concert finishes to allow people plenty of time in the mornings. A Nice touch.

Review 76:For a four star hotel and deluxe twin room, The overall condition decor of the hotel is not 4 star standard and it needs a refurbishment of the rooms and general decor.

Review 77:Staff were excellent and very friendly, the location of the hotel and the breakfast and free wifi were excellent.

Review 78:The first room we were offered was dingy and well used, we stayed in the second room one night only because having unpacked we found that there was no fridge in the service unit. The third room which on the face of it was far superior to the previous two had a fridge but we could not get it to work, ended up keeping our perishable food in the reception fridge.

Review 79:Convenient to walk to centre of Maastricht, staff always friendly and tried to be as helpful as they could.

Review 80:The location was wonderful, literally across the road from the train station! The staff was very helpful, and the room was lovely. Exactly what I needed!

Review 81:Bacon and eggs cold at breakfast. Two regular staff would not slow down. Then a fellow in a blazer and tie came in spoke with staff at length and left without acknowledging guests. I suppose i could have stood and chased them like i was at a hostel

Review 82:Very convenient and historic

Review 83:Dirty bath tub, jets streams jacuzzi spewed out brownish dirt, front desk staff did not respond adequately to this (we had to clean ourselves), breakfast room was old, didn't feel clean, crowded, took ages before plates were removed. No response from management to complaints...

Review 84:Location...

Review 85:- gedateerde kamer - onderlaken te klein voor maat bed - voor de totaal prijs van 100 euro voor één nacht zou een ontbijt niet misstaan hebben

Review 86:-tegenover station. Ideaal voor Pinkpop -bagageservice

Review 87:a) had to request a room change as the superior double we reserved stank of old cigarette smoke (122). However managed to change room to 423 thanks to staff, much fresher and better. b) 3 nights car parking reserved and paid for but upon arrival discovered all hotel spaces occupied.Had to come out of car park, only to be told despite warning signs OK to park in non hotel spaces at weekend.. Wish they had said to start with. c) Feel not as clean as in past but OK, perhaps getting a bit tired.Second visit to hotel but probably won't stop here again.

Review 88:A pleasant short walk to Vrithof for Andre Rieu concert. Friendly helpful reception staff -always very busy Secure parking

Review 89:Room very tired , poorly cleaned , air conditioner feeble & water leaked from it flooding the bathroom .

Review 90:well located for cafes & restaurants & the Andre Rieu concert. Underground parking very useful.

Review 91:Seemed to be very short staffed. Long waits at reception and at breakfast.

Review 92:This was the only hotel bed that I have ever slept in where I was 100% pain free. (Soft) Hotel was so handy for transport but within walking distance of the town centre. The buffet evening meal was very good.

Review 93:Hotels location was ideal. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast and Dinner were excellent. Car park cheap in comparison to others.A problem free Hotel made for an excellent weekend.

Review 94:there is not music in the swimming pool. I went swimming around 10pm. i think there was no other person there and feel a little weird. Okay,to be honest, a little scary.

Review 95:there is a swimming pool in the basement.

Review 96:The bath/shower is less than ideal Would prefer just a shower. Breakfast price too high so we managed without

Review 97:Loved the large space with a sitting area, comfy beds and good air circulation. Liked being close to the old town and very close to the train station. The reception staff were very professional and helpful. WiFi worked well. TV was surprisingly good....several English channels were available.

Review 98:The wifi is almost non-existent in the room where I was. The hotel is also a little run-down and did not give the amenities expected from a 4 star establishment.

Review 99:The locality is excellent

Review 100:Old building with old facilities and very expensive breakfast

Review 101:The location is perfect, the room is big with comfortable beds. staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend

Review 102:The noise of trains and traffic did take away from experience but understood due to ease of getting to hotel from train.

Review 103:The staff were great, facilities available good, location next to train station great, and food was good.

Review 104:The hotel doesn't have any 'grandeur' at all, the entrance, though not unpleasant, is rather like the entrance of an average (large) family hotel, and the rooms (at the 6th floor) fit that impression also. Very spacious, but very simple, not to say cheap, as well. Soap/shampoo/shower gel capsules appeared empty, had to order new ones. Room price would seem to be mainly determined by location rather than style, furnishing and facilties.

Review 105:The location of the hotel, right across the main railway station is excellent (for users of public transport), and since Maastricht is a small city, it is close to everything the city has on offer (takes about 15 mins walking to Vrijthof square). The room was very spacious. The staff (although subject to extreme efficiency measures, if staff count is an indicator) was kind and helpful. Good shower. Quiet room at back of hotel. Were allowed to take precious racing bikes to room. Hotel's architecture certainly also worth a look.

Review 106:Disappointed that the pool was closed. Everything else was great.

Review 107:Good location just opposite Maastricht station and easy walk in to the center. Lovely room. Staff very helpful. Breakfast good and also ate in the restaurant one evening which was also good with very good service.

Review 108:With standard room: only two single beds available whilst Booking.com offered to choose. Whilst living in a rural area, the hotel was quite noisy. Possibly reason being located pretty much next to the elevator.

Review 109:Location was good. Staff friendly.

Review 110:The decor is tired and there are no toiletries in the bathroom. Also the kettle in the room took about 20mins to boil!

Review 111:The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. The room, although basic, was comfortable and clean, and had plenty of light.

Review 112:The rooms are old need to be upgraded. The bathroom needs new plumbing fixtufes. I wouldnt pay full price.. its about a $30 -40 a night value hotel. No more.

Review 113:It was directly accross from train station. If you are using train a lot to travel this is good location.

Review 114:The restaurant is shabby and the food is very poor quality. There is no minibar in the rooms. The breakfast room is unclean and the quality of food is again very poor.

Review 115:Nothing a part from location .

Review 116:Poor bedroom facilities, hairdryer didn't work, TV almost invisibly small. Minibar empty. heating hard to regulate. Poor bathroom giveaways.

Review 117:Decent breakfast, nice staff. Good bar area.

Review 118:Charging credit card for not (yet)used things! IT system changes your name for unknow reasons and that makes you feel just a number and not a person. Staff tells you that nothing can be done about it??? My bank, insurance etc can so why not this chain of hotels? Hospitality?? Orange ties of Staff! Who's idea!

Review 119:Room 305!, friendly Staff, breakfast, parking!

Review 120:The free Wifi that we were supposed to get didn't come from the hotel but was from the train station! Though we ultimately managed to connect to the internet, the signal from the train station is relatively weak and slow.

Review 121:Conveniently located right outside Maastricht train station and a 5min walk away from the city center! staff was friendly and helpful even after we checked out of the hotel

Review 122:The price of breakfast. We chose not to have it so cannot comment on quality, but price seemed excessive for breakfast

Review 123:Spotlessly clean and quiet (even with a function on in the hotel), with friendly staff, all of whom speak fluent English. Located directly opposite the train station, its very handy for onward travel. Is a 10 minute walk to the main bars etc in Maastricht

Review 124:I booked a single room- it was good value, but the decor was very tired- dating back over 20 years at a guess. The bathroom had been refurbished though and although it was small, it was very functional and pleasant. The bed was a small single and the duvet was thin, with no additional blankets or throws. It was freezing outside, the room was cold and I couldn't get the aircon to work- despite many attempts.

Review 125:Good location just opposite train station. Friendly, helpful reception staff. Good front of house presentation. One of few hotels in Maastricht with a swimming pool. The en suite bathroom had been recently renovated.

Review 126:Excellent location when you arrive late at night from the train station! It's literally just across the street. Staff is kind and very polite, and the rooms are comfortable -- even though we were in a non renovated room (the bathroom was renovated). The heating is great and the bed very comfortable!

Review 127:The location, right in front of the station was perfect for me. The rooms were quiet and spacious and furnished well. The staff were friendly and proactive, offering maps and information without even being asked. I would happily stay here again. Breakfast looked good but was expensive.

Review 128:*Nothing to complain about. Very satisfied.

Review 129:*Location to Maastricht Central *Good variety of breakfast foods. *Helpful and welcoming staff. *Comfortable room and facilities *Free WiFi *Availability of evening dining *Close proximity to shops *Quiet room, double glazing

Review 130:The price was too high, the hotel was not a 4-star more like a 3-star. The parking garage was too narrow. The rooms were noisy, near an elevator. The beds were small and the matrasses too thin. The breakfast was more or less in the lobby. Moreover the personel did not want to understand our needs which triggered our departure after day 1. In all I would take this hotel from your list.

Review 131:The departure

Review 132:Desperate need of renovation, most of the hotel is too old. Bed is not comfortable (slept very litttle), rooms on the outside are very noisy and you can hear almost all traffic. TV is very old, light-switches and room heating a mess. The swimming pool area is also not clean.

Review 133:locatie

Review 134:Poor wifi. The signal was very poor most of the time.

Review 135:Close to the train station. Close to city centre & restaurants. Good breakfast. Nice & spacious room. Friendly staff.

Review 136:I was not impressed with the cleanliness of the room. I worried about bed bugs the whole time we were there. It wasn't a housekeeping issue so much as aging of the hotel.

Review 137:Housekeeping was good (came rapidly, cleaned up well).

Review 138:Parking is 18.50 a night. there are still smoking rooms so one end of the hallway smells like 300 ashtrays. Carpet in hallways and hallways in general (at least on 1st floor) look tired. Maybe some updates there. Room was OK. 1st offered a room with one large bed but lights did not work so was then put into another room with 2 beds pushed together which I have never liked. While bothersome these were minor issues and the hotel is near enough to transportation, walking distance to the city center and a nice place to stay....

Review 139:Nice location even though some do not like the train station so close as the noise and people may be an issue - never for me though. The Hotel is near enough to the river and shops/restaurants on both sides to make it nice. Breakfast has a nice mix of standard bread and meat cheese choices but also eggs/bacon/sausage items which was nice. Small night market shop across the street is nice to have for anything you forgot. Overall location was great and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 140:Dull Hotel from outside Absolutly outdated room, was dull and boring for this price class. The (old) TV had a very limited selection, no BBC/CNN/etc. The Bathroom not clean. Not nice receptionist.

Review 141:Great location near station and simple walk to town centre The breakfast was good. The waitress were fast ti unserve... (just came accross a yogourt with an expired date!)

Review 142:Too many things were wrong fron the very beginning. I asked for a room at the back of the hotel because I wanted a peacefull evening and a good night of rest, but i was placed on the street side where you can hear all the cars passing by. I booked a twin room with a twin bed, and i was shocked to see that they gave me a room with two separated matras next to each other. I didnt apreciated this because the crack between the mastrases makes it impossible to sleep. U went downstairs and the very improfessional, must unkind, unfriendly, bad spoken receptionist i ever have the dishonor to meet in my life told me that she had no solution to offer me, and to add salt to injury i didnt have a blanket big enough for me and my girlfriend, instead we had two separated blankets. The receptionist told me that there werent no more blankets, no more beds and if i didnt like it i should go to another hotel. I was totally shocked and in disbelief. I had no option then to spend the night in that terrible bed, but im sure that it was the last. The next day, the receptionist who had the morning shift showed more understanding, but the damage was already done.

Review 143:The breakfast was good, many choise of bread, cheese etc... And the girl who served it was very kind and professional.
