Reviews for Toya Kanko Hotel
Review 1:Cave hot spring was over rated. Nothing special. Enquiries and emails to hotel do got get any response. Need to call the hotel to confirm but this is challenging for guests who do not speak in English as they speak very limited English. Front desk staff are mainly male and and appear mostly cold and unfriendly. They need to smile more. Overall the place looks dated and requires a good refurbishment. Try to get a room from 3rd floor onwards to avoid all the funny smell along the corridor and noises as 2nd floor is partially used for banquet and events. Only two timing available for return trip to Toya station. (Last timing is too early at 1145am)
Review 2:Pick up was punctual. Unfortunately requires call confirmation only as they don't respond to emails. I think they only respond to Japanese written enquiries and emails.
Review 3:The friend were not that friendly and helpful, I don't know may be they are just too busy or what.
Review 4:The private onsen. You can booked it and pay a price of 3,200 yen for 50 mins. It's good and with open air onsen as well.
Review 5:Have difficulty in communicating with staff in Eng, though they have a female Chinese member. toilet too small.
Review 6:Have good lake view, in-room dinner service.
Review 7:Front desk staff could be friendlier tho I think it's because they were limited to Japanese. Restaurant staff was excellent, esp Ms Lim the trilingual restaurant manager. Breakfast was 90% traditional Japapese. Perhaps more international selection would have made experience complete.
Review 8:Onsen was great. 8 course set dinner was excellent. 5min walk fm Donan bus terminal. Rooms faced L Toya and beautiful Mt Yotei.
Review 9:Onsen is old and small.
Review 10:The Japanese style room oversee the lake is beautiful but too bad no fireworks in the evening. The breakfast and dinner are sumptuous ( the staff in the dining room is very friendly) . Location Is good and value for money .
Review 11:room is old and very dusty. also an service lady around public bath is very unfriendly. overprice for the old room
Review 12:nice serving dinner lady. very friendly. good location, u can see the lake from the room.
Review 13:- counter staff can be more friendly and approachable - rooms and room corridors in need of a little sprucing up
Review 14:- location next to the lake - convenience store just across the road from the hotel. - the fireworks - the retail shop within the hotel
Review 15:Hotel is too old and dirty. Air-conditioner was not working and hot water was not functioning properly. Carpet and chairs and cushions in the bedroom were dirty and yaky, The furniture were so old and dirty. And the slippers....For the price paid, I felt cheated.
Review 16:Expensive for a poor hotel. Lousy design and facilities. Food is bad.
Review 17:Overlook the lake where you can view fireworks. Convenience due to location which is opposite a convenience store
Review 18:The transportation can be tough and if there is service to bring the tourist to main places of interest, that will be great
Review 19:The politeness of the staffs as well as comfortable environment with nice weather make us feel homely
Review 20:The hotel is quite old and worn and needs a major refurbishment. Almost no English spoken by any of the staff.
Review 21:Good view of the lake. Appreciated being able to reserve private onsens.
Review 22:We arrived at the hotel a little earlier before check-in time, the only staff at the reception was quite rude and told us to wait at the lobby for half an hour until check-in time. Maybe he could have let us do the formality first instead of telling us flatly no check-in.
Review 23:Our booking was on half board basis, the breakfast food was nice, looked simple but very tasty. Dinners served in our room was excellent in terms of quality and variety. Enjoyed the great view of the lake in our rooms ( we booked 2 rooms) and the fireworks. We stayed on the 7th floor , a bit too high to enjoy the fireworks so the second night we went down to the lakeside. Location and the onsens are great!
Review 24:Low water pressure and small flow of cold water in bathroom, causing a lot of inconveniences to our family especially we have 5 persons staying in the same room. Avoid room 710. Limited spread and poor quality for breakfast. Overpriced stay Inadequate parking lots
Review 25:Fireworks Location Public bath Decent size room Dinner spread is fabulous (in fact too much) Good Wifi connection
Review 26:need for someone who can handle phone calls in english. and not just HANG UP because your trying to get some information in english
Review 27:the food, dinner was awesum!. the fireworks at night was special!!. great shuttle service to the train station(FREE).. freindly staff once you get there. and better that some staff understood english. GREAT LAKE SIDE VIEW ROOMS
Review 28:We didn't know that the hotel's restaurant required advanced booking for dinner (yakiniku set - grill stlyle) thus we couldn't dine there or order ala carte. However, a mini mart is right across the hotel so we bought some ready-cooked food in packets from there for dinner, which was alright. Shower is Japanese style (sitting) thus we were not used to it, and felt it's a bit cramped up (separated from toilet). Wifi only works at the first floor and areas near the windows (the hotel put up this notice on the board for guests to be informed), but it was OK for us as we didn't expect to be actively online while vacationing anyway.
Review 29:The hotel is right on the lake shore thus we could see the fireworks at night from our lake view room, and we could take the cruise on the lake easily the next day. Our Ryokan style room was very comfortable with nice futons, extra pillows, and sufficient quilts. Some staffs whom even couldn't speak English were also helpful and we got a young lady staff with spectacles (sorry I forgot her name) who worked at the restaurant reception help translate for us. The front staffs spoke English OK and were helpful and informative. Breakfast (buffet) had a lot of variety. Parking was spacious. The housekeepers kindly prepared hot water and ice water for drinking/tea in the jug/pot in the room before we arrived thus it's very convenient. The cave-style onsen (outdoors) looked very good but we didn't try as it was late when we arrived.
Review 30:Lack of in room am entity toilet Some guy staff at front office not nice Breakfast not good In room air condition not good
Review 31:Location very good the best view of lake toya Lady staff very nice
Review 32:There is an additional 150yen charge for onsen facilities per person which we were unaware of beforehand. While it isn't much, it did cause us some confusion when checking out as the numbers didn't tally. Do take note.
Review 33:The cave and indoor onsen were great, with toiletries provided. All the toiletries are available for sale in their shop so it was good that we could sample them before buying. We were able to watch the fireworks on the lake from the level 1 (ladies) onsen. Had no problems getting to the hotel since we had a car. Seikomart conveniently located right opposite with many great eating options nearby. Loved the lake view from the room. Breakfast was okay.
Review 34:Noisy hotel stayers. Staff doesn't make you feel too welcome, unlike the previous hotels in Furano and Noboribetsu that we stayed.
Review 35:Good location, just in front of Lake Toya. Watching nightly fireworks along the lake, just 2 minutes stroll from the hotel. Good breakfast spread and in-room dinner is great.
Review 36:We stayed in family room with lake view, the room is big enough for 6 of us & the lake view is priceless. Fireworks can be seen from the room. The onsen is very nice, must have a try. The convenient shop just opposite & hotel lobby got souvenir shop with reasonable price.
Review 37:1) Toilet very small. 2) The charges are extra and different from booking. com as confirmation order. 3) Cannot provide transport to customers even their have van and driver. 4) Very Bad WiFi
Review 38:1)Room is clean and big enough. 2)Location is very near to the lake. 3) Breakfast is good.
Review 39:Food is soso
Review 40:The hotel is near the toya lake that we can enjoy the fireworks in the room. spring is comfortable and we have a experience of traditrional japaneses food and accomodation.
Review 41:Big tour groups and can be noisy.
Review 42:The Japanese style beds were comfortable and it is just located next to the lake. Great view of the lake and fireworks.
Review 43:Pillows were very flat, so it wasn't comfortable when sleeping on the futon. Limited parking spaces.
Review 44:Dinner and breakfast was good. Different types of onsen were available and they were large sized
Review 45:The hotel is very good: we booked the hotel shuttle bus which welcomed us at the JR station and took us there the day we left, we spent very relaxing time in the onsen (both public and private), we had a gorgeous dinner in our room while contemplating fireworks on the lake, and a very good buffet breakfast in the morning. The hotel staff is very kind and helpful, greeting their guests at the departure with their country flags (we had our italian flag, too!). Absolutely recommended.
Review 46:The hotel is a bit run down, and the wi-fi barely works from the rooms (but it's fine in the lobby). Japanese style sleeping on the floor can be uncomfortable if you are not used to it.
Review 47:This is a great hotel for a very Japanese experience, located right on Lake Toya. There is an onsen (hot springs) in the hotel. The dinner is a very elaborate and elegant 10-course Japanese dinner served in your room, with mostly seafood dishes. The breakfast buffet has about 50 Japanese items to choose from.
Review 48:Food..
Review 49:With the lake view room it is a nice stay. There are some ages to the hotel. We do not really mind . As it is interesting. Book the private onsen and experience is pleasant. Breakfast taste horrible .The people and service is good.
Review 50:Breakfast wasn't that great considering the price that you pay for.
Review 51:The location is absolutely amazing. Stayed for one night in a Japanese style room. Dinner was delicious and in true Japanese style. Good experience with the Onsens as well.
Review 52:Staff at the reception was not friendly; insisted that i give him the booking number from the website which was inaccessible since i wasn't connected to the internet. Breakfast selection was poor.
Review 53:We booked a room with a tatami area and ended up having a huge double fusion room w a western style bedroom n a jap-style tatami room. Lake view from the room is excellent. Traditional jap dinner served in the room was a great experience.
Review 54:Hotel room set up is a comfortable traditional tatami bed mattress style. Toilet is very small and all guests are relying on public hot spring areas to do bathing and hair wash. Choices of food in breakfast buffet table are very limited. Rest are ok.
Review 55:It'our first time to Hokkaido and happened to be our honeymoon after 19 years of dating. We spent 2 nights in Lake Toya and first night is my birthday. We drove around in Hokkaido and found this hotel located in a very convenient location. Fireworks were played continuously for 20mins, I was extremely excited though I have watched fireworks for many times in my life. We also found a closy Japenese/korean BBQ restaurant to have our wayu beef for dinner. Though not many choices are given in the area, we managed to move around easily to visit Mt. Esu and parks nearby.
Review 56:Wi-Fi only in the lobby area and signals can be weak if there is heavy traffic. No dinner facilities unless reserved in advance, and maybe because it was a week day or off season? - only one restaurant open for business in the town.
Review 57:Arrived via train at JR Toya Station. There is a bus-stop on the right hand side as you exit from the station, where you can take the Donan Bus (JPY 330) to Toyako Onsen Town - about a 20mins ride. From there it is a 3 mins walk to the hotel. We booked Japanese-Style Twin room with Lakeview - located on the 2nd floor - but really an awesome view of the lake and mountains, and could even view the nightly fireworks. Breakfast was provided - nothing to rave about, but sufficient. The Onsen was quite big with good provisions of hair/face products and good changing room facilities.
Review 58:Hotel is little old maybe need renovation.
Review 59:The hotel provided Professional Japanese classical style services especially when we were served by hotel lady with the welcome tea & dinner in japanese style room.
Review 60:Food was so so. One front desk staff name Shiroto was not friendly, he denied our requested for shutlle bus service to pick up us at train station on checked-in date due to fully booked and no 1 day advance booking. Therefore I booked immediately 1 day advance for checked-out date, he denied again due to fully booked. On checked-out date I asked other front desk staff again whether hotel could send us at train station or not, luckily shuttle bus available and could send us to train station.
Review 61:Located in front of Toya lake, nice view able to see fire work in a lake at night time 20:45 hrs. There is a Blue Sky restaurant near hotel just 10 mins walk has a variety of delicious Japanese food and reasonable price.
Review 62:The hotel is very run down and in much need of refurbishment. We had the Japanese style room and it has the tiniest bathroom. Basically you would have difficulty having a shower if you are over 155cm, and you must be slim and tiny to move around the bathroom. The public bath area is also very old and they don't provide any towel there.
Review 63:Good location with view of the lake. We had view of the firework at night and there are a number of restaurants near the hotel. Parking is free and there are plenty of parking spots available.
Review 64:a little bit too large hotel, with quite some group travellers, hotel shuttle bus is not enough to send clients to the nearest JR station
Review 65:the location is good, easy to get public facilitates
Review 66:I would have preferred Western style twin beds instead of the Japanese style of sleeping on the floor but this is not a big problem if you are able to get up and down off the floor to sleep.
Review 67:We were given a room with a lovely lakeside view. The room was clean and the breakfast spread was fantastic. I would have rated this above average and not "Excellent" but I felt this establishment's performance was closer to "Excellent" than just "Good". Despite the language barrier, the staff were happy to help and try their best to understand what I was trying to communicate.
Review 68:Price is high, room, facility and overall service do not worth the price. The price does not include dinner but others have with the same price. Staff is relatively impolite, especially for the securities who are standing besides the entrance Cleaner opened my room door and left it open although many of my personal stuff are in the room during my breakfast time. And also very impolite to open the door even I'm in the room for 3 times, unbelievable poor service....... One of the chair was even broken and not able to sit. WiFi is very poor, only available by the window, very inconvenient. The hot spring public bath room is small and also poor hot spring quality.
Review 69:There is a very nice Chinese lady in reception who helps a lot on providing traveler information Location is just in the center of hot spring street
Review 70:Free transfer between station and hotel Staff are passionate about their work. In particular, Mr Mura, staff who met, drove us from and sent us to the train station speaks fluent English. He is very friendly and even gave us commentary along the way. Very helpful in loading and unloading our luggage bags. Enjoyed the good view of the lake and fireworks. Enjoyed the dinner served in the room
Review 71:we actually didn't want this dinner, but the rented only the room with half pension, although they also had other rooms very little english was spoken in the hotel this WAS a touristic resort, but it looks like many places are given up in town
Review 72:we got a superb dinner with half pension
Review 73:Hallways are looking tired and faded, and need fresh paint and wallpaper. Restaurant seemed open only to accommodate tour groups. Desk staff told me restaurant was "overbooked" even though I asked to make a reservation in early afternoon.
Review 74:Staff were exceptionally accommodating, and met us at the station with a shuttle even though we were delayed. Excellent views from our room. Good value for the money. Housekeeping staff quickly changed our room from sleeping to sitting area. Good buffet breakfast.
Review 75:Shuttle service from the train station to the hotel and back again was prompt and convenient. Breakfast was delicious with many items to choose. Fireworks were beautiful and enjoyable. Convenient location, close to boat ride, convenience store and restaurants, bus stop, shops
Review 76:A little bit worn out hotel and the breakfast can be improved.
Review 77:The staff are friendly. Hotel is located right in front of the Toya lake with a great view. Although the location of the hotel has a bit distance from the train station but pick up service can be arranged.
Review 78:No
Review 79:The hotel was located on the lake side and I enjoyed the firework display which could be watched at the hotel room after our dinner. I also enjoyed the dinner prepared by them. The public baths at the hotel were a good place to relax. The hotel was some distance from the JR Toya Station but it was good that the hotel had provided free shuttle service to collect and deliver us to the JR station before and after our stay.
Review 80:We reached the hotel quite late around 8:30pm due to long driving journey from otaru. The front counter service of the in charge staff was very poor and no smile at all when I rushed in to do check in. He didn't seem to expect I and my husband would check in that day though I already made on line booking few weeks ago. Though my booking came with full meal including dinner & breakfast, the staff told us meal time is over by 8:00pm. No more food will be provided. Since we are foreign tourist there, tired and hungry when we get to the hotel, he didn't even offer any information where we can go nearby to get food or dine in. And the air conditional in the Japanese style room that I booked was not working at all. It was very stuffy in the room. I got to open the window all night to let the cool air in. We were very disappointed with the service of the staff & it's facility for the price we paid. It really not worth the value. The hotel next door is much better service & facility than this hotel.
Review 81:Only the location.
Review 82:The hotel looks old other than that is okay.
Review 83:The facilities was good and beautiful view facing the Lake Toya. There was a fireworks season when we stayed here.
Review 84:Old run-down facilities Very overpriced compared to other locations (although in line with other hotels at Toya lake) In room wifi only near the window
Review 85:Good location Sea view Friendly staff
Review 86:Facility can be further improved
Review 87:Location, food, service
Review 88:The staff at the counter was slightly ride. It could perhaps be attributed to language barrier.
Review 89:The onsen and the clothes they provided.
Review 90:The room is a little bit old, breakfast so so.
Review 91:Location is good, but if u want to book shuttle bus,u have to wait 2:00pm.
Review 92:The toilet smelled of pee..even after I have perfumed it over & over.
Review 93:The Japanese-feel
Review 94:Rude receptionist. Facilities were quite old.
Review 95:Good location with nice view. Facilities ate clean and well kept. Food is good.
