Reviews for Toyako Manseikaku Hotel Lakeside Terrace
Review 1:We have a terrible experience in the room! The toilet of my parent's room was blocked in 4am and the water was coming out! That was disgusting! They need to improve their facility!
Review 2:The staff are nice and closed to the downtown. I think the room need to be renovated.
Review 3:The restaurant that serve breakfast n dinner has v poor ventilation, u smell like a fish after eating. U need to wash up from head to toe after eating or you smell like a walking fish
Review 4:There is a huge recreation area at basement where you can play billiard, piano or just sit around to listen to live music. The view from hotel is great n the staff could speak English
Review 5:Room came with half board (breakfast and dinner) but the food was quite low for Japanese standards, although it was quite a spread. Room was a little dingy. And windows a little thin. Vehicle noise was low but audible.
Review 6:Right beside lake toya. Bus stop and 7-11 convenience store right outside the hotel. Top notch onsen.
Review 7:It is a long walk from the lift to our rooms. Corridors smell of cigarette smoke which is quite unpleasant. Dinner and Breakfast buffet had lots of choice but the standard needs to be improved.
Review 8:Stunning lakeview and surroundings Onsen was of acceptable and good standard.
Review 9:Good location with fantastic lake view. Luckily got upgraded to lake view room but unlucky was at ground floor just next to elevator so was very noise. But overall still good hotel, worth for money.
Review 10:The resort was ageing and worn. Did not cater for vegetarian although stated on booking. Mountain view room had only view of road, other hotel but no mountain.
Review 11:Location was good as the lake was very beautiful. Also top floor onsen looked out over lake.
Review 12:The rooms were a bit dated but clean, spacious and comfortable. The location was excellent with a good view of the evening fireworks.and reception staff very helpful.. The buffet dinner and breakfast were fairly typical of these large hotels .and the restaurant overlooked the lake.
Review 13:Hotel has a single washing machine and dryer in the small female onsen, but as it has restricted opening hours there's not much of a window for doing all the washing once kids were asleep. Hotel staff member wouldn't allow me to put the washing on another dry cycle as it was 10pm, so I was left with a bunch of damp washing. Very annoying. Food in the buffet was okay, generally lukewarm though and all clothes stank of the buffet restaurant after meals! Eventually we checked out a day early as we were unable to tolerate the cigarette smell (in our 'non smoking' room). The hotel had a lingering cigarette smell in all of the lifts, hallways etc, but the smell came through the bathroom air vents and was so strong, stinking out our room. Front desk staff were initially uninterested in helping us but we persisted and eventually they came to smell our room and allowed us to check out early. Overall not such a great experience at Lake Toya for us, especially for the expensive price tag.
Review 14:The onsen was very nice, especially the outdoor bath overlooking the lake. Rooms were clean and spacious, with decent views of the lake. Was great to watch the fireworks on the lake from the windows! Staff generally tried to be helpful.
Review 15:Need to take a taxi from the train station to the hotel - about JPY2000 fare. Person at reception desk spoke no English. We were handed a two page instruction sheet which answered most of our qestions. WIFi only at the lobby floor and signal was not too good. Room and facilities need to be renovated. Not much to do if you're not there for the onsen baths. Caution: We booked this hotel as the last resort knowing that it has a very punitive cancelation policy. Pay close attention to this before you commit as your cancelation options differ from the usual policy.
Review 16:Only thing positive is the location as it is situated in front of Lake Toya and it has a nice panoramic view.
Review 17:The onsen was not as good as the 1 I had at noboribetsu. The hotel's onsen considered small for the crowd tat were there. Room was abit stuffy as the centralised aircon did not work very well, and we had to leave the windows opened.
Review 18:Like the location and view of the fireworks! Buffet spread was not too bad too.
Review 19:The room is dirty. Carpet is full of dust. Furniture is old. Bed is very bad with very small pillow. But breakfast and dinner are good. Staff is helpful, too.
Review 20:Location is good
Review 21:While my partner and I would've liked a double bed, the view and the room made up for an awesome experience
Review 22:The views from the lake side rooms were absolutely amazing. In the room itself we had ample space and a really comfortable bed
Review 23:room facilities was little bit old, but very clean. the view of lake room was stunning.
Review 24:breakfast was great, location was the best alone lake toya, staff was warm hearted and helpful, shop was lovely. will definitely recommend to friends or stay here again
Review 25:Very old hotel. No wifi in rooms, also no air conditionair. Other parts of the hotel was new, but west building is really old. Pillow was awfull.
Review 26:The onsen and breakfast. Dinner was also good
Review 27:Maintenance and cleanliness of the public areas, especially the lobby toilets. Lobby staff are not friendly. Room balcony is dirty and in bad condition. Hotel WiFi is not usable at all. Luckily there's a free public WiFi on the street.
Review 28:Good location on the lake front and a walking distance to the bus terminal; nice and green landscaping; and good breakfast and dinner.
Review 29:Female & male hot springs are swope according to time. Need to memorize. Also the distance between the female and male hot spring is not close. It is not convenient for a family with different gender
Review 30:The hotel environment is good
Review 31:In absolute terms it is quite expensive but it seems to be so all around Lake Toya. The buffet dinner and breakfast is not really good yet there is no option to stay without paying for the meals. Hotel corridors are a little smoky.
Review 32:While the common areas definitely need a refurbishment, the rooms are clean, modern, spacious and well-appointed.
Review 33:Dinner buffet is included BUT we are being charged after drinking a cup of orange juice. They said only food is included but not drinks. And they didn't tell us in advance. Also, all the notices about charging the drinks are in Japanese ONLY. We cannot understand it since we are not Japanese. Also, in the notice, the diagram just shown drinking beer, and a price under that. So we thought only drinking beer is charged. It is a big hotel there but no other language notice is really bad.
Review 34:The scenery of the room is good. Facing the Toya lake, also for the hot spring.
Review 35:Paid high price for two rooms' two nights stay but given old wing with small shabby rooms, uncomfortable beds, bathrooms which need renovation. You do not get what you see in pictures of hotel, the third bed in our triple room was a portable roll away type with creaky springs. We were not even allowed to boil water and only had kettle with 'keep warm' function, had to call room service to get hot water by 'putting kettle outside' room. Rooms at next wing had normal kettle for boiling water as seen from opened windows. Guests had to walk through a long maze of corridors to reach lifts which can fit only 3 with luggage. Wing with onsen was new, has big lifts, new carpets and looked grand, so our guess is a sort of discrimination is practised at this hotel. We were grouped as loud unruly foreigners who can burn the kettle. Dinner on second night all the foreigners were ushered into a tight area next to the kitchen, while the well ventilated main dining area was left mostly empty with some locals dining there. On check out we had to pay onsen charge of 900yen on top of the total booking price per room. Although only one person from 1 room in our group of five (2 rooms) went to onsen, we were told to pay for two charges. No wifi was available in the shabby wing and everyone had to congregate at the lobby for wifi.
Review 36:Can only say we like sea side promenade and the room cleaning staff who tried hard to make the shabby rooms liveable.
Review 37:The room for 3 people is awfully old and run down with a very old air condition. Curtain is old and it is as good as it is without one. Toilet seat is not the typical japenese type toilet seat. For the rate it charges, this would be my worst travelling exp which i paid a 1-star hotel for a 4 / 5-star rate!
Review 38:Location is next to the lake.
Review 39:The aircorn did not seem to be working well and the room ended Up becoming stuffy at warm at night causing us to perspire a lot. Also, it would be appreciated if wifi could be provided in the hotel rooms instead of just the public area as many times we would need to access the Internet in the comfort of our own privacy instead of heading down to the lounge which can be pretty inconvenient. Lastly, as lake Toya is a romantic place for relaxation, it would be good if the beds provided to us could be a queen size bed for two instead of two separate single beds. Especially for couples like us, we were not given the option to choose the type of beds we wanted and ended up with two single beds instead.
Review 40:The beautiful view from our hotel was definitely one of the best, and the fact that the location of the hotel was ideal as it was located right in front of the lake.
Review 41:It was in the perfect location with easy access to the lake to see the fireworks at night. Enjoyed the outdoor onsen very much and there's also free yukata rental during the stay. Thanks for the great stay!
Review 42:Breakfast and Dinner has many kind of food. There are a lot of group tour, a lot of people. noisy.
Review 43:Good Location, Nice view (Lake Toya). See Firework in front of the room.
Review 44:Such a big hotel, regret to know that there is no WiFi in the room, instead can only use it at the lobby. The room looks cheap, air- cond not cold and very smelling. Blanket is very dirty, so i sleep without blanket.
Review 45:No wifi in room, too crowded and noisy since there are many tour groups staying there (especially chinese tour, student tour....). Meals are just so-so and need to wait since there are too many guests in the hotel. Not all staff are helpful (maybe they are too busy and overloaded).
Review 46:Nice onsen, convenient location, with a 7-11 nearby.
Review 47:The location is good, 10 minutes walk to Lake toya Cruise. We loved the view from our Japanese room. The breakfast/dinner buffet was very nice. If you visit the hotel in winter, the white illumination display is just across the hotel.
Review 48:We thought the quality of the food at the breakfast and dinner buffets could be improved.
Review 49:This hotel has a fantastic onsen overlooking the lake. Both men and women are able to use it because they change the access hours. We also really liked the izakaya within the hotel as well as the included breakfast and dinner. The staff is extremely accommodating at this hotel.
Review 50:The only thing you may don't like is that can not receive wifi signal in room. However, it doesn't matter for me.
Review 51:Excellent hot spring facilities with breathtaking view. Bargaining price.
Review 52:There's no in-room internet and/or wifi accessible. Besides, the room I stay is at the access to the onsen in West Block so it is noisy at night.
Review 53:I stay in Central Block in which all rooms enjoy spectacular lake view. The room is very spacious.
Review 54:The smell of food reaches far beyond the restaurant area.
Review 55:The hotel gathers both japanese tradition and modernity. Very comfortable bed. The staff was very friendly although their poor english.
Review 56:- On arrival, a baby cockroach was running on the desktop in the hotel room - Wifi is only available in the lobby, but at least with decent speed - Staff barely speaks english
Review 57:- The location is really perfect; right at the lake and a perfect view on the daily fireworks
Review 58:We booked and paid for the standard room with mountain view, but was given a room without view. Window looked into building across the street.
Review 59:Hotel location is good by lakeside. The buffet breakfast & dinner had many varieties and most of them are very delicious..
Review 60:Sound proof is not good, especially our room is just opposite to the lift. You can easily hear the noise from upstairs, corridor and even the people from the onsen at ground level. For people who are sensitive to noise will be a problem, otherwise all are not bad.
Review 61:We got a lake view room and it's really nice.
Review 62:Our Deluxe Twin room on the top floor reeked of cigarette smoke during our one-night stay hence we had to keep the windows ajar. The toilet was surprisingly small given the spaciousness of the room. Lastly, there were very little vegetarian options offered at the dinner buffet.
Review 63:The hotel staff spoke little English but were sincere in extending their service where required. The complimentary shuttle bus from Sapporo station was convenient for direct and free access to the hotel. The stunning lake view from the room was definitely the highlight of our stay.
Review 64:The food variety was not a lot and as we arrived late on day one, the food was scarce.
Review 65:The staff was helpful and arranged a room with the Lakeside view. The buffet dinner and breakfast were excellent so that we could concentrate enjoying the onsen facilities. Insensitive with lakeview was also amazing on 8/F with magnificent view.
Review 66:Main dining room a bit of a barn because of the size of the hotel but food good and staff helpful.
Review 67:Perfect location on Lake Toya. Reception very detailed and all staff friendly and helpful. Good place for Japanese bath experience including briefing on the bathing etiquette..
Review 68:No wifi in the room. Only at the hotel lobby.
Review 69:The triple room was nice. Nice lake view.
Review 70:One of the male young staff was not friendly at all since we arrived at the hotel.

Review 83:Room is big and comfortable.
Review 84:Don't like the restaurant. There are too many tourists. However, the location is good, has a great place for the firecrackers show in night time.
Review 85:No wi-fi or even LAN line in room

Review 87:No wifi in the room
Review 88:The food for breakfast and dinner buffet is good

Review 110:Buffet dinner... I would prefer a personalised set dinner instead.
Review 111:Love the scenery. Great onsen and many choices for shampoos and bath!
Review 112:The hotel is very old-fashioned and crowded with tour-groups from China. Buffet dinner/breakfast was just so-so.
