Reviews for The Light Hotel

Review 1:No separation of shower from the rest of the bathroom so the floor gets very slippery. Be very careful!

Review 2:This is a great hotel and very inexpensive. The rooms are clean and modern. The staff were very helpful and booked a wonderful tour of Ha Long Bay for us as well as our bus back to Hanoi. Take a short walk down the hill and stop at the closest restaurant for a really delicious meal. The harbor and bay cruises are just a short drive away as well as the most excellent Quang Binh Museum.

Review 3:Very clean, daily cleaning of a room, reception is very loyal and friendly, they fulfilled all my requests and helped me with trips, price-quality ratio is on top!:)

Review 4:What a great place to stay!!! The staff are warm, welcoming, friendly and extremely accommodating. They go that extra mile to ensure that your stay is pleasant. The owner is really kind-hearted and fusses over the guests. Really nice vibe at the hotel. Great value for money.

Review 5:Staff were so helpful! Food was great, beer was cheap! It was the first place we stayed in Vietnam with a duvet instead of just bed sheets, it's was a treat! What more could you want!

Review 6:There's very little to do in halong bay, aso most people do the cruise as a trip from Hanoi. But the hotel itself was great and helped us find things to do and places to eat.

Review 7:Very friendly staff, who gave us great recommendations and helped us book a good cruise.

Review 8:Breakfast needs to be ordered the day before, we which we did not know (saying that it was written on a board inside the door, our own fault for not reading it!) however the staff quickly whipped us up some toast and coffee.

Review 9:Absolutely lovely hotel. The staff are exceptional, really friendly & helpful. The interior is quite modern and the room facilities are superb for the money. Although the bed was just a little bit hard for my liking, this wasn't a big deal. Room had a window with not much of a view, just a concrete wall. However we had air conditioning, fridge, hair dryer seating area with kettle, en-suite bathroom and free toiletries . Would highly recommend booking Halong Bay Cruise via the hotel, they have lovely brochures for you to flick through and offer them at great prices. Be sure and check this place out guys!

Review 10:The laundry service was a bit too expensive (50k/kg)

Review 11:The staff is really friendly and act as (very good) travel agency as well. The cruise and the trip to sapa they booked for us was exactly what we were looking for. Besides this the rooms are big and clean. Exactly what you need for a short stay in halong before going for your cruise.

Review 12:There was some noise from the plumbing through the night, butnot a big issue.

Review 13:Good value for money. Staff were really friendly. The hotel is located just a short walk down the hill from eateries and shopping. Beds were comfortable.

Review 14:We had a great stay. the staff was really nice as well as the room. Staff provided us good tips how to travel and they have been very friendly. It was the best place we have stayed during our 2 weeks trip! I would like to really recommend this hotel!!!! Thank you so much.

Review 15:All the staff are always smiling face and very very friendiy(kindness). They were attacked by thieves. They also kept my girltfiend Motorbike despite danger and attack. They's mind " coutomer first ". I felt and knew. I would go again...soon.

Review 16:We had difficulty finding accommodation in Halong from the start, however on arrival it was obvious why- the city and bai chay is a huge construction site (under a 5 year plan!) and there are minimal restaurants and people around! Seemed the locals were suprised to see us walking around!! There is no beach closer than cat Ba island and the city centre is purely a shopping centre and Pizza Hut!! We really loved the hotel and maybe a night after doing a cruise is worth staying there but we ended up cancelling our final night and going back to Hanoi early (no fault of the hotel purely the lack of facilities in the area). Have made a mental note to come back once the construction is finished!!

Review 17:Staff and room were amazing. Two young ladies in particular couldn't be more helpful. Had 5 nights booked as Halong was the highlight of our trip. Organised the cruise (legacy cruise) with the hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed and worth the money. Room spacious and good air conditioning. Changed sheets and towels ever day. Bus back to Hanoi clean and quiet trip.

Review 18:Nothing bad to say at all - stay here, you won't regret it!

Review 19:We had a great stay here The staff were incredible, so friendly and couldn't do enough to help us. We arrived late at night and they happily rustled up an amazing supper for us as well as complimentary tea and fruit. The room was very comfortable and so quiet we slept very well The staff took us out trekking up the hill in Halong city one afternoon - they organized a taxi to take all 7 of us (myself and my fiancé and 5 of the staff) and we all walked up together, it was like a happy family excursion - we had a very memorable enjoyable time with them They were really helpful sorting out our trip on the boat around Halong bay.

Review 20:Rooms downstairs don't have a proper window - the window is facing a wall with a bit of sunlight coming through from upstairs - it did not bother me though The hostel is not close to the harbours however the taxis are cheap

Review 21:Spacious, clean rooms and bathrooms Free bottled water Not this far from the coast actually Wifi was working well even in the basement, but I can't remember the speed Quite a lot of English TV channels

Review 22:the Ha Long Bay Cruise we have booked via the Hotel was eventually not the Cruise we got

Review 23:Absolutely amazing and friendly staff. clean and nice rooms. good breakfast

Review 24:Nothing

Review 25:The staff is incredible! Very friendly and ready to help you with every question. Makes you feel like you are staying at friends. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Some people can say that beds are hard, but i slept very good on them. Last day we celebrated together Mid-autumn fest. It was unexpected for us but the company and athmosphere was awesome and very homelike. Thanks for the great time :)

Review 26:Unfortunately there is not much going on in Halong yet. But this will change soon I think as more and more people go there. Nevertheless, it's a great place to stay and relax.

Review 27:Staff: lovely, extremely helpful, always in a good mood, and always care about you. Especially one elderly woman always keeps an eye on everything to make sure you feel comfortable. Rooms: clean, big, very nice Location: you can go everywhere. Shuttle, scooter or even walk to the beach. Food: You order the food in advance. So the food is fresh and tastes wonderful. Everything is great.

Review 28:Location lets down every hotel in this area, nothing to do other than take boat ride to halong bay. Beach area is an ugly construction zone and area is a ghost town. Hotel itself is ok but aircon occasionally wouldn't turn on and bed was rock hard. No view from hotel and hard to walk up and down steep hill every time to explore the ghost town.

Review 29:Good food and friendly staff

Review 30:First of all, the staff seems to be nice in the beginning but they really try to rip you off. We rented a scooter for 2 days and we tanked the scooter as much as we received it when we returned it. Even though, they were claiming that they gave us a scooter which was almost full tanked and tried to charge us more but we refused to pay. Besides, when we got a flat tire and called up the hotel they were not really helping us with what we should do. In the end we had to ask help from a local restaurant. Worse service we ever had even though the hotel was nice.

Review 31:Good location

Review 32:The staff went above and beyond, even chasing down and collecting a bagof mine that I left on a bus from hanoi. The Staff can't do enoughfor you and the owner, Moon is a sweet lady who cooks like Ramsey! Onequestion.. Why has this hotel got only one star?? It should have minimumfour! Great value and well reccomend

Review 33:I think we confused about where to stay in Ha long, and thought we were going far out by picking The Light. But in fact it was pretty perfect. (Although be ready to walk up hill after your tea!) its just a stroll away from shops, restaurants and travel agents. 15 min walk to the beach, although we did have to get taxis back when it was too hot. room was really nice and staff too. They were having issues with the wifi, but maybe we were just unlucky

Review 34:There are no negatives to give about the hotel other than location. It's not a problem specific to this hotel either. There are lots of others around it. The problem is Halong itself isn't very geared for tourists yet (other than the bay). The actual bay itself is spectacular though. We found it very hard to find good restaurants in walking distance to the hotel. Both sides there had very few Caucasian tourists. My blonde girlfriend was leered at by men everywhere we went non stop. Not in an inquisitive way either, it was in a very rude and disrespectful way.

Review 35:Staff were extremely friendly and could speak reasonable English (which we found was rare in Halong) Bed was the best we had stayed in 3 weeks of hotels. Room was very modern and clean.

Review 36:The stuff is so friendly - awesome!! You can ask them anything, they will help where they can! Furthermore 'The Light Hotel' looks brand-new, the rooms are nice and very clean! The price-performance ratio is fantastic!! I can absolute recommend this place

Review 37:There was a window that let light from the communal hallway in, making it a bit difficult to get to sleep. This was only a minor issue the rest of the hotel was excellent value for money!

Review 38:Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The recommended islands to visit and places to eat.

Review 39:The room had no sight of the city but was not such a big problem!

Review 40:We had a good two-days stay! We booked a tour in halong bay with the hotel and it was great!

Review 41:The staff was just amazing! They were very caring and attentive. The hotel is within walking distance to public beach but they also provided motorbikes for cheap rental. The room was very clean and modern. I will stay here when I return to visit

Review 42:The wifi did not work in room but worked in lobby so ok. Having to pre-order food.

Review 43:Staff are so friendly The rooms are lovely and clean The tour info and advice is great! Also nice view of the harbour...

Review 44:Not any fault of the hotel but the area is a ghost town and not nice at all in the wet months not sure what it is like in the hotter months.

Review 45:Fantastic staff especially the young lady at the front who speaks good English, very friendly, clean rooms.

Review 46:Everything was just great! The hotel is really nice, clean and confortable. The staff is awesome!! So nice and helpful..the went that extra mile you rarely find when travelling.

Review 47:The staff were paticularly helpful - my boyfriend and I stayed here on a paticularly stormy day meaning that we couldn't go to see halong bay but they refunded us for the boat tour we had booked. The kind staff also helped us when our bus back to Hanoi was cancelled due to the weather and sorted us out a car back to Hanoi to catch our night train. The room was clean and spacious and great value for money.

Review 48:People in the hotel are fantastic. The hotel is not close to any sight but is close to the pier and to the bay. Wlan didn't work properly. The view from my window was the wall of the next hotel.

Review 49:Bed was kinda hard but not too bad. Rooms and hotel had a very sterile feel to them. Area around is a bit dead (but that isn't the hotel's fault). Close to the shops and restaurants that were there. Room had no view (paid for cheapest rooms though).

Review 50:Lovely staff with very good English. Very clean and modern. Wifi good. Rooms were spacious with chairs and desks. If you have a reason to stay in Ha Long Bay City then would highly recommend.

Review 51:Our room was dark with little to no natural light as the window faced a concrete wall. You have to place an order for breakfast the night before and dinner in the morning which is weird. Hotel was very quiet- halong town not worth a visit so I guess that is why.

Review 52:Clean, good wifi, location good but up a hill - hard when hauling up a heavy backpack. Staff friendly and organised taxis for us.

Review 53:Everything was great. The room, the service, it can't be better. We just stayed for one night but had an amazing impression. The staff helped us out with our trip to Haiphong with public bus, the breakfast was good and for one time not too expensive. We didn't book our Halong tour with the hotel but I recommend you to do it. Our overnight in one word... Amazing.

Review 54:The only negative thing I could say, is that the city itself is not very attractive, there is nothing to do there besides starting your cruise for halong bay. There is not even a place to eat per say...

Review 55:This hotel-hostel was great for a short stay in Halong Bay. The staff was very helpful and nice! The room was big enough, and clean with good AC. We would definitely recommend this hotel! Very good value 4 money

Review 56:Even though food was advertised, the chef wasn't cooking any food. Made it a bit awkward at meal times when the whole family was sitting in the dining area eating after being told we could not eat there

Review 57:Only the tour through Halo Bay because it is overrun withave tourist but it's not the fault of the Hotel.

Review 58:Super-Friendly staff, Very nice rooms, Perfectly clean, Good breakfast, Silent Airconditioning, Value for money.

Review 59:Loved everything about it! We arrived at 7am and the room wass no ready obviously but we got to rest in the staff room and as soon as the first person checked out we got our room! Staff is amazing and the rooms are really clean and comfortable!

Review 60:A steep initial trek that is worth every step.

Review 61:The Pineapple Bun Travellers, aka Doreamon Crew of four stayed at this fantastic hotel. Jenny spoke fairly fluent engilsh, and her entire family was very welcoming. It was a very clean and warm environment. 10/10 would stay again.

Review 62:Everything! 1. You can take a bike in the hotel 2. You can buy excursions here (low price). 3. You can order and girls can buy for you everything (crabs, fish, cream). And they cook it after for you. 4. rooms, beds, air conditions, - exAlant. It's difficult too imagine better hotel!

Review 63:This hotel was very cheap and seams just like new. The bed was fairly comfortable, it was quiet, AC worked great, the food was awesome and decently priced as well. The TV even had about 10 English channels!

Review 64:Breakfast not included. You would have to book in advance. same for other meals. Better to eat outside, there are plenty of choices near the beach with good price

Review 65:I liked the cleanliness of rooms and comfortable beds. clean linens.

Review 66:Uncomfortable beds, loud children running around in the morning. Breakfast, lunch and dinner had to be ordered in advance. Paid over the average for a cockroach infested 19 hour bus to Hue that dropped us off in the middle of nowhere. Location is very secluded with a lack of restaurants and attractions other than ha long bay.

Review 67:Friendly staf, room was ok

Review 68:The room was let down by 2 things. 1) The AC sounded like a running shower all night, so in the intense humidity in Vietnam you can choose between no sleep because of the heat, or no sleep because of the insanely loud AC. 2) One poor quality undersized blanket, which is more for show rather than for comfort, is not adequate for bed linen on a double bed. Luckily I had my own sleeping bag liner so I just used that!

Review 69:They charge a credit card fee when paying by credit card. I asked this to booking.com in advance and booking.com confirmed there was no surcharge fee. I recommend to clarify this information with the hotel in order to avoid misunderstandings in future.

Review 70:The place was very clean, well located and the staff were extremely helpful and nice. They had evrything available at the hotel from booking a Halong Bay cruise, an overnight bus to Sapa or just coffee and breakfast.

Review 71:The hotel is a bit too far from anything. There was a very bad smell in the bathroom. We asked them were can we take the bus to Ninh Binh and they said they will take us to the local bus station, call to reserve seats, and the ticket costs 12$. The bus was actually around 6$, no seats, full (thank God we got to Ninh Binh alive, do not take the bus!) They sell Halong Bay tours for 17 and 22$(4 or 6 h) but if you go to the tourist warf the same tours cost 7 and 9$ (it s true that others charge even more).

Review 72:Kitchen staff were very nice and the food was good and cheap

Review 73:Very nice hotel with nice personal. It was pleasure to stay here. For its price its just perfect: clean, nice rooms, good and cheap breakfasts, nearby there are a lot of local restaraunts and market.

Review 74:Nothing!

Review 75:If you're looking for a place to stay on the mainland, I can't recommend this place enough. The rooms were very clean, the WIFI was good, and it was in a decent area to walk to nearby restaurants. However, what I especially enjoyed were the people who ran the hotel. They were the nicest, most hospitable hosts we've had in all Southeast Asia. "Mother" fixed us up an amazing breakfast and even showed us how to properly eat it. They were very accommodating when our plans changed. All of this at the cheapest price we've paid thus far on our travels.

Review 76:Nothing. Everything fine here. you will feel at home

Review 77:Everyone at the hotel was helpful and friendly. They really make sure you enjoy your stay. Clean comfortable and a short walk to several restaurants. It's a great option rather than stay 2 nights on a boat on the bay and take a 6 hour cruise instead.

Review 78:No shower curtain. A lot of sound from roosters in the morning, but I guess it's hard to escape that with any hotell in the area

Review 79:Super friendly staff. Clean, nice, big rooms.

Review 80:The Hotel looked brand new. It was super clean. The staff was super kind, helpful and informative. They helped us book tours and find attractions nearby. Great value for the money.

Review 81:Nothing. Everything was great.

Review 82:The staff where amazing. Most comfortable bed we've had over 5 weeks in south east asia. Best value for money accommodation

Review 83:Window was just showing the wall of the next house Nothing to do in Bai Chay

Review 84:Friendly staff Tour Organisation Good breakfast Located in a quiet area

Review 85:I can not find anything negative. Simply wonderful and recommend it to anyone staying in Halong Bay.

Review 86:I have never been treated so well in a hotel. Wonderful staff and the perfect service.

Review 87:That there was no phone in the room and no elevator. But we need to keep in mind that the building is new and still under construction.

Review 88:The staff was excellent. The owner is very nice, her mom too, her staff also, but my heart was left with the boy that is in charge with the housekeeping. His smile, laugh, good disposition, is a medicine that my family wish we had around. We came to love that boy. If it was a way to adopt him I would do that without any hesitation.

Review 89:Minor, but - Wifi is not working everywhere, but according to owner it will will be change soon to new system. I guess, as usual in 2 * Hotels, it can by noisy due to construction/isolation of houses. If you are sensitive in sleeping better choose 3* or 4* Hotels.....

Review 90:Beds are new exchanged and excellent. Good location to Town and Beach. Run by a nice friendly young girl and her mother. Very clean. AC even does heat when needed :-) . Thanks Jenny and Mom for the dinner :-)

Review 91:Ha Long is a ghost / rip off city But that's not the Hotel fault We booked a tour to Ha Long Bay from there but nobody picked us up in the end of the day (the lady ran away... literally - wth) Good luck with Engrish

Review 92:Good Hotel if you had the sad idea of staying in Ha Long Value for money

Review 93:Bit far away from the resteraunts but to be fair there isn't a huge choice as the city is rather bare.

Review 94:Jenny and the staff there are just lovely. Made Us feel so welcome- even played board games with us whilst we waited for our bus. Arranged tours for us at a cheaper price than found elsewhere

Review 95:There was a bug in the bathroom. In the next day, after clean up, the same bug was still there. The hotel is located in a hill with a huge ladder. I don't mind but this is just for your information.

Review 96:The staff is very friendly, the facilities are new and clean.

Review 97:The noise that travels down the light well from reception. Can hear every conversation from your room.

Review 98:Felt like being part of a family, very clean, close to everything, good size rooms, great hot shower. Wish we could have stayed longer

Review 99:Very minor, but the mat outside the bathroom smelled quite bad when it got damp. Otherwise nothin at all.

Review 100:Slightly away from the main hotel area, enough to keep things quiet but near enough to get everything you need. Very comfy bed, especially for Vietnam standards. Everything is new and clean. Good wifi. The staff tried really hard to make us feel welcome and organised a bay cruise for us at a very reasonable price, plus a transfer to Hanoi in a smart minibus, for less than we paid to get to ha long bay. It was a lovely place to stay.

Review 101:Ghost town - there is nothing to see/do in Halong Bay except (expensive) boat tours (which can be organised from Hanoi) we struggled to even find somewhere to eat out. Hotel staff speak little to no English.

Review 102:Nice, modern, clean rooms.

Review 103:Ha Long city is a rip-off city!

Review 104:The room was tidy and clean. The staff is quite friendly. I thonk the hotel is better than others in Vuon Dao area. I might be back here!

Review 105:Hay long bay where this is is good if you do a day tour from Hanoi, but if you stay here as we did the town is empty and nothing to do. Food is had to find and nothing apart from the trips.

Review 106:All of it great place lovely people Great place to stay if passing through.

Review 107:No laundry service, so we had to walk round town looking for one. You have to leave your room key at reception, which I find a tad annoying.

Review 108:Clean new place in not a bad location. There is nothing do in the area but this place made for a good one night stop before our Halong bay tour. The older lady (must have been the owners mum) was so lovely and brought us fresh fruit in the morning.

Review 109:The staff are amazing and won't hesitate to help you. We were travelling on bikes and needed some help finding a mechanic and Jenny was a complete star and saved the day twice for us. Recommended a great restraunt as well and organised a tour for us. Room was clean and exactly as advertised. Location is great.

Review 110:The location is not great, as you are located on the top of a hill. Not much going on around the hotel - it is a couple of km away from the tourist wharf.

Review 111:The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and smelled good once we first stepped in. We extended our stay for two more nights and we recommend it!

Review 112:Be aware it is at the top of the hill. If you are walking with luggage it is a strenuous walk for 10 minutes. Everything else more than makes up for this. Plus you may enjoy the exercise as I did.

Review 113:The staff were very helpful with some English. Unbeatable price. Clean, basic, warm and comfortable. Juan in the lobby set me up on a tour of the bay and could not have been more helpful.

Review 114:-extremely clean + they clean the room/change towels daily -great staff, they make you feel like at home -the breakfast was cheap and delicious -the staff offered guidance during the entire stay -it's located 5 min walk from the seaside -there is a gym 2 minutes away, which was important to us -spacious hall - perfect for doing some online work

Review 115:Wow... What a nice surprise to have such a home-style welcome when you arrive in this hotel. All the family treats you well and wishes you have a pleasant stay ! The rooms and really clean, spacious and well-equipped ! They always try to give useful advice to you especially when booking a tour in halong bay ! We really enjoyed our stay there and wish we could come back soon !

Review 116:Matras was uncomfortable. Wifi wasn't working in the room. No soap available. But for the price you pay, you can't expect too much.

Review 117:Room was really clean and spacious.

Review 118:I have stayed at, and reviewed, more than 25 hotels on booking.com and this is the first time I'm giving a score of 10. This place exceeded all expectations, and more. Incredible value for money! The place is brand new as are all their fixtures and furnishings. Exceptionally clean, with great facilities. Fast working wifi, variety of TV channels including English movie channels, AC was perfect, the shower was powerful with instantly hot water. We had room 106 with view of the bay. We caught a glimpse of the other rooms which don't have same view but are equally as spacious, with the same modern decor. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Just lovely people. We received free fruits every day during our 4 night stay! They speak good English and are able to help with tour booking without being at all pushy. It's a short walk down the hill to the beach, or to a number of cafés and restaurants nearby. They offer breakfast from just 25,000VND. We had breakfast there every day, and although simple, it was always good. We felt very comfortable, welcome and "at home" and would definitely stay here again.

Review 119:I wish we had better reviews because the hotel looks new and seems like it could do well. But the mattress was so hard that I just can't recommend it. We can handle a normal firm mattress, but this was the hardest, most uncomfortable mattress we slept on in Vietnam. We wouldn't stay there again unless the hotel swaps out the mattresses.

Review 120:The hotel is spacious and clean; the staff was very kind. We opted for breakfast in the morning and it was tasty. The room was large and sunny, and the bathroom was quite nice and new.

Review 121:- beds are very hard, but for one or two nights that's ok

Review 122:- friendly and helpful stuff (only receptionist can speak English, but that wasn't a problem) - big and clean rooms - not far from the Bay

Review 123:location is not the best, but you can walk a bit and get all the restaurants and markets, so it's not a real negative point

Review 124:- friendly staff - helpful staff (They help a lot, I booked a tour from local sellers and it was a bit scam, but they helped calling the boat company that was there 30min later with the bus transport) - wifi - everything is new at this hotel - price is fair

Review 125:The hotel is lovely :) it is basic but also cheap. Everything you need is provided. Breakfast is lovely! It is a 10 min walk to the beach. The staff are very friendly, their English isn't perfect but they have everything written down. Definitely stay here!
