Reviews for Bastion Hotel Maastricht Centrum

Review 1:The beds are really not comfortable : not only the hotel has twin beds only (no double bed) but the twin beds are really poor quality. We both had back pains and woke up during the night because of this.

Review 2:Location was good + a parking just in front of the hotel. Bathroom was ok as well.

Review 3:Seemed to be a pretty standard three-star hotel, only partially refurbished and with small staff etc: not a real four star hotel. Of course as long as the price is right that's not a problem.

Review 4:Friendly personnel, really nice room, really affordable compared to other hotels in Maastricht centrum.

Review 5:The en suite bathroom-cum-toilet would have been better had there been a lock installed

Review 6:The size of the room with fully opening windows was a definite plus.

Review 7:I was quite shocked to see porn tv channels. I have been travelling for over 30 years and this is the first time I come across that. Inter

Review 8:The room was small but comfortable.

Review 9:The rooms were stuffy. Windows did not open. Door lock was damaged. Caring value of the rooms seems low. Floor Carpets also in the corridors dirty.

Review 10:Friendly staff Good access by car. Parking possibility. Close to city centre.

Review 11:Windows (in first floor room) were screwed closed so there was no way to get fresh air, bathroom sink was very chipped and the plug in the bath was broken, view from the window was construction-work. Minor things - but given how much it costs, I'd expect perfect.

Review 12:Good staff, excellent wifi, bathroom was a nice size, kettle and coffee/tea in room, television with lots of channels, spacious lift, centrally located for tourists, comfortable bed, room was full of sunlight, good sound-proofing - no disturbances from other rooms, deep bath and nice shower, mini-fridge and safe in room.

Review 13:n/a

Review 14:The staff responded well to our questions and were very friendly and helpful. We ate delicious meals for dinner. The location was great for our self guided tours and boat catching ventures.

Review 15:Parking is charged and there is no possibility to park car anywhere else than in hotel garage.

Review 16:Well located hotel close to 2 main squares in the city, friendly staff, quality and comfy rooms, quiet and nice location.

Review 17:Fairly pricey, especially given breakfast wasn't included. Not much of a view, either.

Review 18:The staff were very friendly, the room was ready even though I arrived fairly early in the afternoon, the internet worked and was easy to log on, the room had both a kettle and a bath. It's pretty conveniently located too, the short taxi ride from the station was under €10.

Review 19:Fire and room doors close with loud bang, so there was a little disturbance in the night.

Review 20:Great location, central but quiet and just three hundred metres away from the main market place. Modern building with slightly unusual and interesting rather minimalist design inside instead of same furnishings as everywhere else.

Review 21:The beds are two twin beds pushed together which is not unusual but these kept sliding apart, every morning we would wake up with the beds split apart.

Review 22:The stay was wonderful! Location was perfect. Really it is a very nice hotel and I would stay here again. I can't say enough about how wonderful the location was to everything in Maastricht.

Review 23:Room didn't look like pictures - it was just an ugly 1990 hotel room. Bed sheets were dirty(!). Chair was scratched. In general stuff looked used and old. Reception staff was moody. In general - it's ridiculous to me to offer a room like this in 2015. It's worth €45 - not €100+.

Review 24:Close to centre. Reservation via Booking.com.

Review 25:Good location, quiet, excellent value for money. Room interior and bathroom looked completely new. Will certainly use again for future visits to Maastricht.

Review 26:Room was dark, décor was not user friendly, TV on wrong wall in the room. We did not eat the breakfast, (too pricey) but the room was stuffy and warm.

Review 27:Good location

Review 28:The safe in the room was complicated to use. I ended up locking our passports and other important things in it with just the door shut and no password could open it. Eventually when I tried to open it next day before check-out, it started beeping like alarm (for 15 min!), so I called the Front Desk and they opened it with a special password without any words. Strong advice to the hotel: change the safes, this is a necessary thing for all travelers and it must be easy to use. It caused way too much of unneeded stress for us. Also, computers downstairs intended for a public use are super slow, looked like there was Windows 2001 there. Better to completely remove those, it's too shabby for such a hotel

Review 29:Location is great: off busy roads and within 3 minutes from the Market Square and the heart of Maastricht. 15 Euro per day secure underground parking was very convenient for us too.

Review 30:Rooms for two people need more hanging space for clothes. Would suggest to DOUBLE the hanging space and move shelf spaces along and turned around - plenty of room to do this. Also to move full-length mirror to back of room door.

Review 31:Location of hotel is excellent and only 5 minutes walk from centre of town.

Review 32:Noise in the hallway and breakfast was not worth the value. They ran out of all kinds of food before the breakfast time was up

Review 33:Location which was close to the concert venue

Review 34:Room was dingy and dated . No mini bar or room service. Shower and hot water poor. Breakfast not much choice not what I am used to fr s 4 star hotel

Review 35:Location was very close to the venue and town centre. Staff were very helpful and professional

Review 36:On the day of the Andre Reui concert we could not eat as the dinning room was full! We and others were turned away and sent to find other areas in Maastricht to eat. The bar area was empty and the whole of the breakfast area was empty and next to the dinning area...open plan...but we were not allowed to sit there. we had a very nice meal out in Maastricht but the hotel lost out on several people leaving the hotel to eat elsewhere!

Review 37:Staff very helpful and friendly

Review 38:Parking was 15 euros/night. Just found this a bit expensive for Maastricht, that is it.

Review 39:The location. Close to the Markt place. Very silent and quiet hotel. Nice and polite service. Could check out until 12.00 Did not have the breakfast in the hotel, so do not know the quality.

Review 40:I prefer toast for breakfast, but toaster blew up first morning and tripped out the electrics so the water for tea etc. was warm - it was sorted out at the time - the next morning an inexperienced, but nice young lady told me I couldn't have toast until I pointed out where the toaster had been placed, finally I did get two slices, but she served it white until I mentioned to turn up the toaster level which she did and then it was OK. Also, the egg fried on my first day was badly cooked. However, the cold choice looked good bread was excellent. There was shower/shampoo gel in the room, but no soap bar or dispensed soap.

Review 41:Polite staff and convenience to Maastricht square

Review 42:Room a bit tired, poor sound isolation from corridor.

Review 43:Good location, 5 min walk from central part of town. Friendly and helpful staff. Free wifi worked well though slow. Breakfast ok, but not fantastic.

Review 44:Uncomfortable twin beds, no sound isolation - we heard every sound from the coridor, empty minibar, old furniture and elevators. This is definitelly not a 4* standard

Review 45:Good location and helpful receptionist, clean room

Review 46:Bed was two single beds joint together and not very stable. Fair breakfast. Hotel is not a 4 star standard.

Review 47:Staff was very helpful. They provided us with a baby bed even if it was not mentioned in our booking. parking is ok.

Review 48:A secure parking area for bicycles would be nice as the Maastricht area is a prefect area for bicycling. Breakfast room sometimes a little too crowded.

Review 49:Situated perfectly on the edge of Maastricht city centre. Excellent parking facilities for those who came by car and excellent staff.

Review 50:The room was badly lit and very dark. The dark black and red colour scheme didn't help. Floors very hard and unforgiving on the feet. No softness anywhere! No soap either; had to use shower gel to wash hands. I don't expect that from a 4* Hotel.

Review 51:Location.

Review 52:The hotel is visibly dated and the rooms by the road are burdened with excessive noise.Staff aren't particularly friendly either. Clearly over priced for what you're getting. I will not be staying there again.

Review 53:Not much.

Review 54:Nothing all good

Review 55:Lived in Maastricht for 2 years long ago its really one of Europe's finest cities absolute stunning architecture and gourmet food second to none perfect place for romantic weekend

Review 56:The beds were sink-down soft, which is not my preference. The garage is half a block away down a cobblestone street.

Review 57:This was our second Bastion hotel, and we will certainly consider the chain for other trips in the Netherlands. The room was clean, quiet, and relatively roomy.

Review 58:The messing about getting into the car park, as the ticket machine asked for a green button to be pushed and there wasn't one.

Review 59:The location for the City Centre was perfect, the hotel was very clean it also had a smoking room inside which was clean and fresh.

Review 60:Very basic accommodation Very old fashioned and out of date not as I read about so I was disappointed Beds should be thrown out No proper shower Very cheap shampoo Old cheap furniture

Review 61:Location

Review 62:A little bit cold in the room in the evening.

Review 63:Nice staff - very helpfull, exelent location - 5 min. by taxi and 10 min. from the train station. 3 min walking to the city centre.

Review 64:Bathroom was rather on small side, room was slightly overpriced for the package offered.

Review 65:5min walk from city center, 20min walk from train station. Big spacious room, very nice staff, free WiFi works well. Lobby and restaurant look nice and welcoming. Nice Modern building, has elevator.

Review 66:Last day, the hot water didn't work. There wasn't even a letter from the reception... And it was Winter. We took a cold shower before going to the aeroport. This was during TEFAF. The hotel was full

Review 67:1. There a lot of renovations that could still be made to fit for a 4 star hotel. 2. The food variety can be expanded for a buffet 14-euro worth.

Review 68:1. What was good was the egg cooked at your wish. 2. Nice lounge area. 3. Friendly staffs

Review 69:Nice hotel, but the room is small, ugly, no closet, just 2 boxes where you can put your clothes in, the room doesn't look like a 4 star hotel, but the price is high.

Review 70:good facilities: staff, bar, restaurant.

Review 71:Parking at 15 Euros is a bit expensive I felt. Breakfast was moderate. Only single beds available no doubles it seems. Baby cot provided was broken. (To be fair they tried hard to fix it) Not the most diverse restaurant downstairs with limited staff, but as mentioned many restaurants available within walking distance.

Review 72:In my opinion at 150 Euros for the night there is only so much you can expect. Location was the best thing about the place, and with Maastricht not the being the biggest city (probably a 20 min walk end to end) traveling by foot was not an issue at all. Otherwise there was nothing bad about this hotel really, it was clean and the staff were trained at a satisfactory level.

Review 73:Even though the room was OK, the customer service was something unbelievable. I have been in many situations, in many countries, but never have I faced such a disrespectful attitude towards a hotel's customer that I experienced in Bastion Maastricht. Not only the personnel (a person behind the reception's desk) was completely disrespectful, but as well stormed in my shouting at my business partner while refusing to talk to me as the actual hotel guest. Never have I met such arrogant hotel personnel in my life. After disagreeing with his existence in my personal room, he threatened to call the police. I hope the people who stay in the hotel do not expect any understanding or service from the hotel personnel. I would pick another location, since the personnel in the end really made my life difficult there.

Review 74:rooms a bit on the cold side

Review 75:location 5 minute walk from central parking 10 min drive from the MECC Ok bar solid breakfast rooms and bathrooms above average

Review 76:I had twin beds instead of a queen size bed, but this was the fault of the website booking.com, not the hotel...

Review 77:Location is great, 2 min to the main square... Nice reception area...

Review 78:This was more like a 2* hotel than a 4* Room very small as we had a Deluxe Double room. Reception didn't seem to want us to eat on the Friday night when we arrived, not that brilliant. Went to a nice cafe down the road for breakfast as the hotel was charging 14 Euro.

Review 79:Windows are locked to stay locked, which cuts you off from fresh cool air (it seems for safety) ... in one of the beds you feel its metal parts in your back and one of the blankets has no more abily to keep you warm.

Review 80:Breakfast is great, parking is okay, the hotel is clean and the staff is good!

Review 81:14 Euro/person is high for an average breakfast.

Review 82:Got a 60% discount, 70 Euro for a double room. Then the price/value is correct. Would never book at normal price of 170 Euro per night. Ok hotel. Everything fine

Review 83:Price is very high for level of hotel, , accommodation a bit spartan and breakfast not worth paying for, no space for plates around bacon, no warm plates for warm food!!!!, omelette ordered at beginning of breakfast not delivered before end of breakfast - had to cancel order to prevent wastage.

Review 84:Location is very good and parking is there if required (and yes there are some people who do need a car to travel from another place to Maastricht when it is over 250kms away with no same day train service. )

Review 85:Way over-priced for what can only be classed as an 'average' hotel. Deluxe it is not! Small rooms, small towels and missing essentials like a bar of soap. Had to use the shower gel to wash my hands.

Review 86:The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the market square and main shopping are. Staff were very friendly.

Review 87:No lighting in room; very awkward setup; you need to be tall to step into the bath/shower; parking system labour intensive and inefficient, frequently didn't work requiring more time

Review 88:Noisy. Can hear everyone going past door. Can even hear conversations people are having in their bathrooms if you are in your bathroom as the sound travels through the pipes!

Review 89:The guy who was at reception on the night shift was useless. When we asked for chance for the vending machine he claimed only the manager was allowed to get change despite the fact that earlier in the day i was able to get change from the staff at reception. After he told us he couldnt give us change he literally disappeared.

Review 90:I liked the staff that were there during the day. I liked the smoking area and the pool room. The shower and bedroom were nice but a bit small for the price.

Review 91:Is not that close to the main train station, so travellers without car should be prepared for 20ish minute walk.

Review 92:The hotel is greatly located, a bit far from the train station, but close to the city center. Tasty breakfast with prosecco for breakfast, cozy place to play pool for the evening & clean, spacious rooms.

Review 93:paid parking in parking garage: 15 Euro per day

Review 94:Very efficient yet pleasant reception upon arrival. Beds are fine, modern bathroom. Breakfast buffet very good.

Review 95:The room is basic with outdated facilities. That's OK with me if reflected in the price. You would expect more for what you actually pay.

Review 96:Staff were friendly and welcoming. Quiet rooms. Red wine at the bar of good quality.

Review 97:One night wifi was not working. The rooms could be bigger and have some drawers to put the clothes and other things- there were only hangers.

Review 98:The personel was very helpful, the breakfast was excellent, the room and the bathroom were modern and nicely decorated, and clean. There is a fridge in the room. The location is perfect cause it's just in the centre.

Review 99:Noisy room. Dust and muck from demolition opposite De Lux room is a standard (small) room Parking fee of €15 which is not in the description. Excessive price (given the fact it is next to a major demolition site).

Review 100:Staff were friendly

Review 101:Advertise that they match "booking" site prices but they don't. A little loud at front of building but staff had no problem moving us to a room at back. €15pp for buffet breakfast is a little steep?

Review 102:Location, Staff and Cleanliness.

Review 103:Little expensive on the Saturday night. Some rooms can be a little small for a whole week stay.

Review 104:Excellent location for all aspects of Maastricht not just the concert. Overall an enjoyable stay. Will stay here again.

Review 105:Perhaps the menu, especially the wine list could be a lot more adventurous !!! What was on offer was quite good though.

Review 106:I found the staff helpful and friendly, the service good and a lot of readily available information regarding Maastricht and the surrounding area. I didn't feel lonely even though I was a solo traveller. I would return there.

Review 107:Leaving the hotel.

Review 108:We stayed at the bastion hotel for the Andre Rieu concert and found it very close to all the squares and lots of bar'sand restaurants. Evening meal at the bastion hotel was very good. Room and air/con.very good good parking excellent hotel will stay again.

Review 109:Lack of outside seating. A cool private place to sit (or a balcony) would have been lovely.

Review 110:The staff were exceptional. We had no bedside light and this was attended to shortly after We loved the idea that the towels were only changed if left on the floor, to save energy and detergent. We'll be back next year to see Andre I'm sure!!!

Review 111:I was a little concerned that I did not receive an answer to my June and July enquiries about the hiring of bicycles. I e-mailed your hotel and group several weeks prior to our visit but did not receive a reply. However, we went for information to VVV on our arrival and had a great time cycling.

Review 112:The location and services available suited our needs perfectly. Thank you.

Review 113:both duvet cover and sheet had holes in - nothing like good enough for £150pppn for B&B. toilets was not fixed to the floor and rocked and banged when used.

Review 114:location. air-con worked well. clean, comfortable beds. bathroom modern

Review 115:I thought this hotel was a 4 star, more like a travel lodge.a bit expensive for what it was, although we didn,nt have breakfast there, we had a look. and it did not look value for money.

Review 116:the best part of the hotel was the location, brilliant, the reception area was very comfortable, as was the beds. Also it was very clean.

Review 117:The staff were incredibly helpful, the beds very comfortable, it was close to where we needed to be, breakfast was good and the atmosphere was friendly.

Review 118:Poor Lifts Not enough front staff Phone had to be replaced Room safe on floor-very difficult to access No double bed No safety handrails in bath This is NOT a 4star hotel

Review 119:Disappointed could not get something to eat when we arrived at 4pm.

Review 120:Friendly staff. Free WIFI. The ample & varied breakfast (and how nice to have a glass of Prosecco with it). The location.

Review 121:no seating supplied for staff at reception and bar------ probably suggested by some manager who spends most of the time sitting on his/her whatever, if this is the new way to treat staff I'm not impressed,

Review 122:very friendly staff

Review 123:Nothing

Review 124:Excellent position for where we wanted to be staff were all very friendly and helpfull. Food was good. Would go again. And the concert was fantastic.

Review 125:- noisy rooms (at least in the 4th floor) because of air conditioning system which works all the days and NIGHTS - fridge was not functioning at all - very (too) soft matresess

Review 126:- Convenient in the city center - parking garage close to hotel - 50 m - easy access to/from the highway(s)

Review 127:It was a little loud in room from street traffic and people

Review 128:Location is central

Review 129:Location is good

Review 130:We could not manage to get the heating to work.

Review 131:Central and close to one of the main parking lots.

Review 132:Nothing.

Review 133:I like the atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Its in the centrum so very accessible to all.

Review 134:the rooms could benefit an update

Review 135:breakfast, in the centre of the city, public parking across the street

Review 136:Rooms very old and outdated. We had two rooms and in both rooms entrance rooms doors broken.

Review 137:Service during breakfast very professional and friendly.

Review 138:Breakfast was not included

Review 139:The location & secure parking

Review 140:the bad was uncomfortable, I could not sleep well

Review 141:it is almost in the city center
