Reviews for Hotel d'Orangerie
Review 1:parkingcosts, city tax ,but this is a city issue, not the hotel
Review 2:Location, near to the centre, shops, the room was good equiped with the facilities, minibar, tv, coffemachine everything in good working Bathroom was very nice. Breakfast is normal breakfast. The service and friendless of the staff, suburb.
Review 3:The biggest shock when we got to the hotel was that there was no lift ! And we had 4 heavy pieces of luggage to carry up 3 stories ! But kudos to the staff who helped us carry them up when we checked in.
Review 4:The location and friendly and helpful staff who recommended good restaurants around the hotel.
Review 5:a very warm welcome, they did everything possible to make your stay a pleasant one. Really loved the old rooms with high ceilings and chandelier and a modern bathroom!
Review 6:It would have been cheaper to book directly with the hotel.
Review 7:Friendly staff. Lovely touches, like the welcome drink on arrival and the chocolates on departure.
Review 8:Absolutely nothing!
Review 9:The location is great, the hotel is located near the shopping area and all the sights are a ten minute walk from the place. The staff is very courtesy. The hotel has its own private parking. The room contains all the necessary facilities:safe, minibar, coffee machine, bathrobes and many others. The room itself was very beautiful and cozy. The hotel is worth staying. The breakfast was delicious with a wide range of food.
Review 10:The staff were all friendly and helped us find where we needed to go. We had come for the University Open Day and they directed us correctly to the various venues. The location was perfect. Thanks so much. We would visit again.
Review 11:No elevator
Review 12:Perfect ambiance, they make you feel at home. In 3 minutes walking distance from a shopping area where you can loose yourself in a vitiaty of small local shops mixed with the big brands. Private parking. Very good breakfast and beds.
Review 13:We advise you to thoroughly check the offer of that hotel and we do not advise to stay in. We were treated very badly in this hotel. Hotel took advantage of the fact that we select a non-refundable offer and we couldn’t withdraw. We travel with 3 small dogs. The hotel accepts dogs but as it turns out allows you to keep only 2 dogs in the room. The third requires rent of another room in deluxe version ! In April, when we made the booking, hotel informed us that the cost of dog accommodation is Euro 12.95. Then in September, just before the arrival, we received a mail that the cost rose to 24,50 euros and we have to pay additionaly for both rooms cleaning 16,90 Euro. When we protested hotel informed, that this rules are not to be discussed and all other mails will be charged ! The intervention of the representative of a Booking.com did not bring results. This is an ugly and musty hotel. Embarrassing. Extremely rud epeople. It was unpleasant experience in a very nice Maastricht.
Review 14:Nothing
Review 15:Nothing to do with the hotel itself, but the soft drug laws in Maastricht have changed and you get accosted by street drug dealers because of this. Also I do not like places that ask for prepayment with reservation, they did what I expected and asked for full payment even though it was only the city tax they needed. Corrected quickly, but should not have happened.
Review 16:I liked the room, although kind of small it was very comfortable, the Hotel itself is a classy old Dutch hotel and is very nice.
Review 17:The only negatives were that the bed was so soft it left us with sore backs and not very good sleeps. Breakfast at 15 euros is also very expensive. We have had similar breakfasts included in the hotel price. If this was resolved i would give this hotel 4 stars.
Review 18:The staff were outstanding and I would stay again just based on that alone. The complimentary drink was a nice touch.
Review 19:Perfect location (15 min. on foot from the Main Station, 2 min. on foot from the Main Square); friendly staff, interior design, nice breakfast, good organisation.
Review 20:Noisy room and uncomfortable bed for our first night. We were moved to another quieter and bigger room for our second night at no extra cost.
Review 21:Very helpful and friendly staff. The newly refurbished room for our second night was well appointed.
Review 22:Beyond the control of the hotel there was a rather enthusiastic local government employee who insisted on blowing leaves away outside our window early each morning, which woke us up. Also, the bathroom is in a corner of the bedroom without a door which means that certain areas of the room are to be avoided when someone is showering.
Review 23:The room was neat, modern, well-appointed and ideal for our situation as we were a group of 3. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was also modern. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. The location was perfect, 2 minutes walking distance to the Markt and shops.
Review 24:My single room was very small. I was fortunate to be able to upgrade for €10 and Dennis, who was on reception, was really accommodating in this regard particularly as I had already used the shower.
Review 25:The staff were terrific and the breakfast was excellent. Good parking in a secure location with access to the centre of town just a short walk away. We also go a complimentary drink on arrival, which was really nice.
Review 26:We came on the motorcycle and wanted to park it in the garage, that unfortunately costs €22,50, we found that to be a little to much. But that was the only thing, further our stay was perfect!
Review 27:The breakfast was amazing, they had a great variety of choices with different breads, eggs, yoghurts and even fresh strawberries &blueberries. Because of the weather we could have breakfast in the beautifull 'old style' garden. Service was great, rooms were really nice with comfy beds &when we left we got a little box of chocolat. We had a great stay!
Review 28:Nothing, absolutely perfect.
Review 29:An amazing small boutique hotel with great rooms, atmosphere and breakfast. Also, Maastricht is quite small so the location is also good.
Review 30:lack of air-conditioning - temperature was 40 deg.
Review 31:Friendly staff . Free bottled water .Breakfast area and food. cared for our grand-daughter while waiting for us to arrive
Review 32:Despite help from the staff, the wifi only worked for a minute or so during my stay.
Review 33:Wow! The staff were super friendly and helpful, with the male receptionist coming to help when my car got stuck - I really appreciate this. The breakfast was fantastic - surely catering for every taste - and the room was comfortable and a good size, if rather dusty in places. The bathroom was spotless and well-presented. The overall decor might not suit everyone's taste, but it was a good stay and definitely value for money. I would go back!
Review 34:Oposite dodgy coffeeshop, wifi a mess,no aircon or fan in room way too hot, with windows open incredible noisy.
Review 35:Atmosfere,close to markt,cleanliness,good breakfast.
Review 36:on arrival we found out that our room had been given away to someone else, we had paid this room in advance and was given another room which is never used. it had no running water and the staff gave us two bowls of water on to wash and the other to clean our teeth. the toilet was a small cubby hole and was also shared. some distance away from the room. we paid 221euros for this hole and when we demanded a refund she gave us two free breakfast I would sugest you do not send anymore guest to this hotel it will give your office a very low score
Review 37:nothing
Review 38:The breakfast had a varied choice with excellent croissant and fresh fruit as well as original selections such as homemade iced tea. The decor was classical with some modern touches.
Review 39:The bed had one mattress on top of another and was quite unstable and similar to sleeping on a water bed. Any movement of the occupants disturbed the other.
Review 40:The location was ideal as we were attending a concert near by.
Review 41:Tried to put us in a annexe to the main hotel, room offered was not clean had kitchen facilities hotel was overbooked. Eventually we were offered a room in the main hotel after we continued to complain. The only room that we could have was a attic room 6 flights of stairs up. We have stayed in many hotels across Europe and feel that apart from the great breakfast the rooms were tired and overpriced . If we returned to Maastricht we definitely would not stay at this hotel Andrew & Lynn Goode
Review 42:Location & Breakfast
Review 43:Room was comfortable but noise from street was a bit much as there is no air conditioning and it was too hot to close window. It would not stop us going again though.
Review 44:The location for Andre Rieu was our main concern and this was perfect..Staff very helpful and friendly.
Review 45:The room was incredibly hot and uncomfortable to spend time in due to the unusually high temperatures last week..38 degrees ! My elderly mother found it very difficult to deal with..if the room had been air conditioned it would have made life a lot easier for us both. Also we felt that breakfast could have been included in the price..we went out for breakfast every day as we felt it was way too expensive.
Review 46:Lovely clean room and comfy bed, staff were friendly and helpful. Great location.
Review 47:We were on the front of the hotel and there was a bit of noise at night from cars on the cobbles
Review 48:Great location close to many shops and restaurants. Breakfast probably the best variety we ever had.
Review 49:-The Wi-Fi was completely non working. The staff everyday said they will try to fix it but showed no effort. -The coffee cup was not washed, the desk was partially cloth dusted (when we were given the room!). The trush can was not cleared. - The family room was on the third floor without lift. If you have big luggage and/or small children it is not recommendable. - The minibar was not working, with the bottles all warm and the their labels kind of moldy, but the staff kindly (!) told us it was not fridge and it doesn't get so cold. Seems they are not very mindful of their equipment.
Review 50:-Location: very close to the old city and the market square. Also close to super market. -The view from the window: the window, though they are small, offered a good view of the river and bridges. - offered a welcome drink at the confortable lounge
Review 51:Room not clean enough, access to the rooms somewhat difficult (no lift in one of the buildings, not easy to open the big number of doors in the other), weird combination of ancient and modern facilities in the rooms.
Review 52:Location, friendliness of staff
Review 53:Room smelled quit musty, bed was much too soft, you had to shower in bath without a showercurtain so the whole floor gets wet.
Review 54:Location was perfect, friendlyness of the staff also
Review 55:Staff was extremely nice and helpful - even carrying our luggage upstairs! Room was nice, hotel well located - only minor point was the bed which was a bit sinky.
Review 56:Bathroom has a slight odor/smell. Breakfast is excellent but expensive- large hotel on the square had a similar breakfast at half the price
Review 57:Nice location. Convenient to shopping, restaurants and all of the squares. Roomy and comfortable room.
Review 58:Filtered on pet-friendly hotels but when we confirmed direct to hotel were told we could only have one of three 'luxury' rooms at an extra cost of 36 euros. Unpleasant discussion with manager ensued and after we agreed to pay were offered a bottle of wine as a gesture. When we got there the staff were pleasant but room very dusty, especially under the bed - total cost 200 euros poor value for money.
Review 59:Private secure parking.
Review 60:Nothing really!
Review 61:The staff were helpful when we had a issue with power points not working (not critical as room had so many), and offered us an alternative room promptly. We could not have asked for better service
Review 62:Street had some shady people and drunk people yelling throughout the night. Not sure if this is normal, but kept us awake. Breakfast was good however tables are very cramped. In nice weather the terrace would be open, solving this problem.
Review 63:Good Location, easy to get to from the train station. Room was nice, perfectly fine for a short stay.
Review 64:No lift. Difficult to find by car, and then problems with getting car into car park. Very pecular jumbled decor.' Beau 3 restaurant they recommended was disappoining.
Review 65:Secure parking, albeit expensive. Proximity to the market-place and town centre, and the river Maas. No drug-dealers observed - but then it takes one with experience know one...
Review 66:Wifi only worked downstairs, secure parking was €22 and you had to move the car by 11am, we parked in an outdoor one 5 mins walk away that was €12 for 24hr it had security cameras but i would not have left too much in the van if i could have helped it. Drug dealers on the street corners around the hotel were a bit of a pest. Breakfast expensive.
Review 67:Lovely big room decorated to high a standard, in an old town house in the city centre.
Review 68:Nothing apart from cost of car park.
Review 69:Stayed in main hotel twice before. We were put in an annex opposite the main hotel and thought that this would be a disappointment. But no! Wonderful, spacious room with eclectic decoration. Very large comfortable room. Marvellous bathroom enabling you to bath with Marilyn Monroe (bath screen!)
Review 70:The owner and all the staff at the hotel were the most helpful team I have ever had the pleasure to meet. In every respect they could not have done more to make our stay one of the best mini breaks we have had and their restaurant suggestions were even more exciting each night we were there. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and it's staff to anyone visiting Maastricht,
Review 71:I loved my room with it's fine furnishings and lovely bathroom without too high a price. I would say it is a credible high 3 or low 4 star. Staff were welcoming with my late arrival being more than acacommodating. I was relaxed and comfortable after a 350 mile motorbike trek to get there. Although the room was initially cool (in February) it soon warmed up and the hot bath was deep. Book it, it's a good one
Review 72:"peak hours" at front desk caused a bit long waiting, but overall, just a minor detail.
Review 73:Spacious room in refurbished building just across the street of the hotel, courtyard entrance, high sculptured ceiling, nice bath/bathroom, quiet, perfect location, friendly staff.
Review 74:We weren't in main building. Room had someone else's trash still in the kitchenette. Wifi didn't work in room. No phone to reception so we incurred roaming charges each time we had to call. Work going on in surrounding rooms so we were woken at 8am when we wanted to sleep in. They cut our power in morning so we had to go toilet by phone torch. TV over headboard so u need to lie at foot of bed to watch from bed?? Weird layout for me considering there was a perfectly empty wall opposite. My advice: insist u stay in the main building
Review 75:Location, comfortable bed, helpful staff
Review 76:The bed was tiny and it was uneven. Incredibly uncomfortable and lookednothing like the picture. They claimed that it was high demand but theycharged me 103 eur for a room that could not cost more than 45 eur.
Review 77:The view through window. The breakfest and price for it. Rooms are really small. Not always possible connect to internet. Cable TV signal quality is poor.
Review 78:A bathtub in bathroom. Cable TV. Possibility to make some tea in a room by your self.
Review 79:What a treat it was to have a Nespresso machine in our room and lovely wine glasses. Enjoyed the size of the bath, being the middle of winter. We enjoyed this hotel experience.
Review 80:Heating in room broken.. breakfast was horrible every thing was cold even the tea... not worth the money.......
Review 81:Hotel was near the shops and train station...
Review 82:Situated right beside the River Maas making it easy to visit the Markt and Vritov Pleins and all the shops, as well as the old town, it's plush, well-run, clean and comfortable. The staff are helpful and friendly and the food is top-class. Stayed there before and will do again.
Review 83:In one of the rooms (we booked two) was a jacket hanging in the wardrobe from a previous guest. Both rooms were not dusted for quite some time, including the dusting of the drawers inside. Otherwise the general impression was of a clean room.
Review 84:Although slightly overstuffed with too big furniture, the lobby and dinning rooms have a warm and homely charm. nice first impression when you enter the hotel. Rooms are spatious enough and have all basic facilities. Staff was nice and welcoming. My daughter of 6 just like all kids, could choose a welcoming present from a basket at the lobby. Made her very happy.
Review 85:We had the luxe double room so it was perfect. Windows to the graden so very silent. The room was quite big. Location very close to Vrijthof. Imagine that if you chose a standard room it could be quite noisy during the night as the hotel is on the main road.
Review 86:Nothing, this is a very friendly and recommended hotel
Review 87:This was a fantastic hotel for our travels. An upmarket hotel with a very affordable price tag. Located less than a minutes walk to tourist friendly restaurants and shops and no more than 5 minutes from the majority of town. We had a room with 4 single beds that was very spacious. The lady at reception was very helpful with assisting us with directions to the Christmas market, the nearest laundry and the bus stop for the caves at st Pietersburg. The wifi was also strong throughout the hotel.
Review 88:No mention that there was no lift. If you were disabled or like me getting on in years the prospect of lugging heavy suitcases up two or even three floors on narrow staircase is not the best. Booking dot com should state more for younger set. Also they need to change the comment greeted with tea cake or beer and olives, these were not offered on arrival. One person on reception was great others appeared not interested and the breakfast was only so so I paid 50% less on Hiedleburg and got a far bigger better room and a breakfast that was far superior to this. Also why the city govt charges tourist to stay each night in there town so you can have the privilege of spending your tourist $ in their restaurants and shops I think is high handed. All I can say is I won't be back to give them any more of my money. There are lots of cities in Europe with great buildings and historic cities who welcome tourist not try and put barriers up to tax you for the privilege of visiting. Been there got the tee shirt & won't be back
Review 89:Great city enjoyed the sights
Review 90:Normally when booking a hotel, we actually get to stay in the hotel, but in this case we were given a key to the house next door and were shown upstairs to a room which looked nothing like any of the rooms on the website, with no contact with the hotel whatsoever. If we wanted to use reception, restaurant or bar we had to go out into the street and back into the hotel next door !!! The welcoming coffee and cake wasnt offered but to be honest we thought we were in a completely different hotel than shown on the website. The photos shown do not depict reality. Good luck everyone. Don't complain about the smell from the toilet because this apparently is normal for such an old building !!!!
Review 91:The location to the centre of town was perfect Very tempted to buy mirijuana in the coffee shop opposite the hotel!!!!!!
Review 92:Some noise - could hear elephants stomping around upstairs. Could hear some noise from outside too. However, none of this went on into the night so still got good night's sleep.
Review 93:Location is excellent - lovely Maastricht just outside the door, short walk to railway station. Pretty boutique style hotel. Good value. Friendly staff & helpful. Nice breakfast. Would recommend and stay again.
Review 94:We had a very pleasanr stay at LOrangerie. The staff were exceptionally helpful when we had bad news about an aunt who suddenly fell ill. They went out of their way to help us contact the family in Oss and located the hospital where she was admitted. All this was done without asking - we appreciated it immensly and would like to thank heartily. Apart from this we were wellcomed with a tasty Limburg tart and coffee. A nice surprise was the basket of fruit delivered by the cute son of the owner - a future entrepeneur in making! Thank you once more for the lovely, but far too short stay in Maastricht !
Review 95:Only minor gripe was that out teenage sons bed was a fold out bed andfor the price we paid we expected his would have proper bed as a tripleroom booked , not just 15 euro extra for an extra bed in a double room .(The hotel explained that to get 3 beds you have to order a junior suitewhich costs more.) This isnt clear from website. Also stated thatcomplimentary coffee and limburg tart offered on arrival but wasnt to us. We were told you have to ask for it .
Review 96:Central location would recommend to friends would return historicambiance helpful staff comfy bed good sized room robes and fruitgreat breakfast
Review 97:Absolutely adored this hotel,I keep coming back. They newly renovated the rooms and they are simply stunning and the excellent friendly staff makes you feel at home but just better.Location is very central and everything is within a 5 minute walk.Delicious breakfast, clean room and free wifi throughout.Perfect for a business or leisure trip
Review 98:As it's on a cobble street you do hear people pulling cases along but that was no big deal as that is expected on cobbles...we didn't use any of the minibar or bottled water on the side so can't comment on prices.
Review 99:Lovely room, we had a triple one. Stylish decor with wonderful statement headboard on the bed. We didn't have breakfast as ate out locally as easy short walk to all the good bits of lovely Maastricht.Comfortable cosy lounge to have drinks in the evening. Overall better than expected and would return.
Review 100:We had a slight problem with Friday night revellers outside the hotel but they were only passing by really and were soon gone. We also had some difficulty with the wifi in the bedroom which the staff did their utmost to sort but we enjoyed using it eventually in the lounge area with a complimentary glass of wine.
Review 101:This hotel is quirky, has a lovely Dutch atmosphere and I would definitely stay again. We stayed in room 18 which overlooks the river, fairly large with a sparkling clean en-suite and a bath which although small was very comfortable. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, and the location was conveniently central. Parking was secure and well organised.
Review 102:The bathroom is outdated and not of great taste :) The shower in the bathtub is not very comfortable with the low ceiling.
Review 103:The room size, location and the atmosphere.
Review 104:The staff were extremely welcoming and went out of their way to make sure that we enjoyed our stay. All the available utilities made it luxurious for a perfect relaxing stay. Would definitely stay here again, recommend it! It is also right in the city centre.
Review 105:The staff is helpful. Hotel is old and floor are all wood. Will hear the people walking on the top floor. The bed is too soft for us. Otherwise, the room is cozy and the city is interesting to explore. Be aware the parking is hard around that area.
Review 106:The odor from the sewer system, but we heard it is not possible to change that.
Review 107:the receptionist and the night person at the bar were exceptionally professional and nice. We liked the parking.
Review 108:Noise of late night carrousing and drunks. Nightclub base carrried from across the river. Drain smell (mentioned to reception).
Review 109:proximity to Old City centre. Excellent breakfast. Good secure off road parking facility (for a price). General old townhouse ambience.
Review 110:The GPS didnt like the address and I had to contact the hotel who gave me the opposite corner-then it was easy
Review 111:Characterful hotel very close to the main square offering secure parking-in our case for a motorcycle.
Review 112:That I could not stay longer.
Review 113:The staff made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. They always had time to talk. Very attentive. Would happily recommend this hotel to other travelers.
Review 114:The room was very dirty. The ladies in the reception smoking inside the building. So you can smell the cigarettes from your room. Breakfast quite expensive for value. very though stairs to the rooms. (but, we were aware of it). The child mattress a disaster!!
Review 115:Well located, walking distance to the center town, but it isn't a good neighborhood. Staff very friendly. Bathroom was clean.
Review 116:A little expensive by comparison compared to other hotels we used but we found Maastricht quite expensive overall although we were only there one night, it is a budget hotel though so it was pretty much as we'd expect. Parking at the hotel cost around £22 in a secure parking area next to hotel.
Review 117:Free drink token on arrival, staff spoke good English and were helpful. Rooms clean.
Review 118:The building itself is really historical so you heard everything when you're sleeping. Some guys upstairs are having parties until 5 in the morning and that's the time we sleep. Unless you fall asleep easily, please consider this part before booking this hotel.
Review 119:Good location, friendly staff, lively breakfast experience
Review 120:Wifi didn't seem to work and need to factor in parking at nearby QPark into accommodation cost as it was €25 per day
Review 121:Rooms clean, comfortable and well equipped, staff friendly and helpful
Review 122:Helpful and very nice receptionist. Comfy beds. Coffee maker didn't work so I left a note on it, when we returned later it was fixed. Could here the upstairs occupants during the night!! but it's an old building and there's nothing they can do about that. Expensive mini bar but if you don't like the prices then don't use it! Really comfy hotel and I would have no hesitation in using it again.
Review 123:- Only one person at reception during high season (mid August) - Requested baby bed was not placed in the room, and after it was, no sheets were provided - Found an empty wine bottle under the bed and a used tissue IN the bed... - Wifi unstable
Review 124:- Location - Breakfast - Staff friendliness - Originality of rooms (old building)
Review 125:Narrow, steep stairs to room, not really suitable for elderly people with luggage. Also only window was above the bed so to see out one had to stand on the bed. I did leave a light coat behind and would appreciate it if you would send it on (I will pay postage) thank you
Review 126:I loved the ambience of the hotel, very Parisienne. Beautiful decor and staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast excellent. The position near the central square is perfect.
Review 127:We had to pay about five Euro tax for every person, even our two year old. Also we had to pay extra for breakfast, 15 Euro per person, again including our children being 2 and 5 years old. So with parking we had to pay an extra 100 Euro to the price stated.
Review 128:The staff was friendly and the location was very central.
Review 129:There are renovations on going - my room lacked a comfortable relaxing seat for reading also somewhere to be able - sit to write post-cards or a letter with an area of good reading light / lamp. Also room maids check soaps both sink & shower gel. Fridge never got COLD - warm all the time inside. Otherwise all fine
Review 130:For travel good location to use public busses to arrive or depart for the train, also for seeing other areas. Close to the river for walks, & river trips. A lovely city for exploring the wonderful history being able to stroll the many streets with out traffic. Love Maastricht.
Review 131:No air-conditioning so had to have the window open which was then noisy from revellers and motor bikes.
Review 132:Great location in the heart of Maastricht and easy to find by road. Really comfortable beds and spacious double room.
Review 133:We did not like having to open the gate all the time, then the heavy door to enter the building, also our room location was poor. We were placed at the back, on the top level, and the room rather small. We had problems with the internet which you eventually fixed. With reservations I might recommend your hotel.
Review 134:We liked the location, and the staff were very good. The breakfasts were lovely but as they weren't included in the price I thought they were expensive.
The Fine Print
