Reviews for Launceston Backpackers

Review 1:You have to pay for the wifi and the living room is not so comfortable, it has only tables chairs and a small sofa, it's not a great place to relax. The atmposphere is a bit sad and serious.

Review 2:The staff is kind and the hostel is quite clean, dorms are ok and the kitchen is really big.

Review 3:Very minor but it would be good to have a shower that you could angle, stoves that are easier to turn on with some smaller burners so the pots don't tip over in the large circumference, a salad bowl, more outlets in the room so we don't have to fight over who plugs in their phone....

Review 4:Have stayed here a few times and it is always a pleasure. I love the Zen cat who seems calm and content with the passing parade of humanity, the park over the road with the beautiful big trees so nice to sit under on a hot day, the big old building, and the friendly staff. Thank you!

Review 5:Accidentally slept through check out, when I returned key, receptionist lady had no greeting, just said 'check out was at 10'...just unpleasant.

Review 6:room smells ,bed sheets and blanket need extra money ,its really ridiculous, wifi also needs to pay .location is far away from city center . air-conditioning can not control by guests .

Review 7:nothing really !

Review 8:There was only one main light in the bedrooms and one plug socket to six beds. Not ideal! The atmosphere was pretty flat. The hostel was perfect for a one night stop over but if you are looking to meet people and have the hostel experience I would go somewhere else.

Review 9:Clean, tidy and did what it said on the tin.

Review 10:Some improvements necessary i.e. opening times of reception, no free wifi (welcome to the 21st century) Some people shouldn't work in the tourism industry... at this hostel you see two of them!

Review 11:Nice and clean hostel

Review 12:Bed is not quite comfortable. No table in the room.

Review 13:Location is good. It's In the Launceston Town. You can get food very easy cause there a lot restaurants nearby, or buy it from supermarket and book by yourself.

Review 14:Everything felt clean. The hostel provided the basics at a very reasonable price. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Launceston on the cheap.

Review 15:The car park was locked before 8 pm even though there was a notice on the gates saying the car park is open 8 am to 9 pm.We couldn't get the manager.

Review 16:The paid wifi was expensive and the showers were not great, they would suddenly go very cold every so often whilst in the shower.

Review 17:The staff were very friendly and helpful. I arrived during winter when it's quiet so I had a six bed room all to myself, which was nice for a change. The place is also very clean and the beds are comfy.

Review 18:It was super cold. We were in a double room and heating was on from 7 pm to 7 am and we still had to sleep with 5 blankets on top of the duvet. In the kitchen and the corridors it was freezing. The main door was wide open in the early morning (to ventilate, probably) when people are still there having breakfast or getting ready to go out, so the air current in the kitchen was really annoying. Cleanliness was mediocre kitchen should be better taken care of

Review 19:location

Review 20:It would have been better if we could be in charge of our own heater, rather it being on a timer. People go on holiday for different reasons, some like to go out all day and explore, while others enjoy relaxing. I would also have been happier with another pillow.

Review 21:Very clean, good sized kitchen, comfortable living / lounge room with tv. Great location, easy walking distance to the town centre.

Review 22:Unfortunately the downstairs bathroom needed work on it, so it was closed. I tripped going up to the next level when the lights were switched out! Not seriously hurt though.

Review 23:It was central to the township.

Review 24:Room is no frills Spartan. No extra niceties and comforts. Worst for us was the fact that the heating is centrally controlled and didn't come on until seven despite being four degrees at five in the afternoon. Even when on the room was only slightly warmer then outside. Be prepared to shiver as the heating is totally inadequate. The shower is also extremely temperamental, scalding or freezing.

Review 25:Room was clean.

Review 26:The room's heater was not very warm. Would suggest providing an electric blanket. The thermal blanket provided in the cupboards seems to be very dirty and has not been washed as we could see that there were grass stuck to the blanket.

Review 27:Location is near some supermarkets and restaurants. Room provided has all the basic amenities which we require. Free parking.

Review 28:Staff were welcoming and friendly, they even upgraded my room (for no extra charge) as there was a single available. Warm and clean showers and a good kitchen with plenty of storage place. I liked the warm fireplace in the common room which felt very homely especially with Fiji the cat on the prowl.

Review 29:Cold (no central heating, limited room heating, noisy (continual sound of washing machines / laundry very late most nights)

Review 30:Very clean, good kitchen facilities, friendly staff

Review 31:It is a bloody cold place! We were there in May and couldn't get warm at all, neither in the dining area nor in our bedroom. This backpacker doesn't know anything about heating!! We got both a cold during our stay. It is not well insulated either as it is an old building. Some people kept it loud in the corridor between 1:30 and 3:00am and couldn't sleep at all --> probably not the hostel's fault for that part though!

Review 32:The hostel is very clean, the beds are comfy. The price is good, but don't expect too much out of it!!!

Review 33:The admin desk is signed as open at 3pm yet the employee didn't arrive until 3.40pm. The heaters in the room aren't able to be controlled and are on a timer that comes on too late (around 7pm) so the room is already cold, and they are not on in the morning so you wake up to a cold room. The cleaning staff is blunt and almost rude, Barking at me that the kitchen was closed, even though I was just getting a juice from the fridge (and bot actually cooking anything) The Plumbing had issues and there was no hot water one morning of our stay, it was rectified throughout the day though.

Review 34:Location was great. Secturity of the building also good, and it was clean.

Review 35:Sometimes we couldn't find the reception person, and have to find or wait for them....

Review 36:Warm and clean room. Friendly and cute cate. Free parking.

Review 37:The hot water temperature was sometimes hard to control.

Review 38:We could of slept in the comfy beds there all day, Fuji the cat was good company and had a general homely feel to it.

Review 39:The carpets are worn and uncleanable, at least in some rooms. The mattresses are terribly old and uncomfortable! Quite expensive wifi ($1.5/hr).

Review 40:The staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is great. Well equipped kitchen. A Coles supermarket is just a few meters.

Review 41:First of all, we had to pay for blankets (which where at leat not really clean etc) and sheets as well. Then, the room is like you're in a prison: a bottom-fenster, quite dark, small cupboards and terrible beds. The shower was also not really clean, dark und you only get tepid water in average.

Review 42:The Location was quiet and there was a china restaurant nearby to catch some food.

Review 43:The bathrooms were a bit small on the top floor, and were old,. but you could use the ones on the lower floors if they were full.

Review 44:Our room was simple (double no ensuite) but great value. Just a quick walk to an awesome steak house! The manager was super friendly - happy to help and point you in the direction of a good feed. The building is 100 years old and started out as a hospital! It's in need of a few repairs, but adds character. Massive industrial kitchen, big dining area, and large lounge room. Showers were good too.

Review 45:A table and two chairs in the room would have been nice, even get some free ones from the street would add value to the stay but with the price we paid, I am not complaining.

Review 46:Very clean! Especially the communal bath room and toilets. Everyone lived there are quite considerate. Quiet and peaceful.

Review 47:A guest, who smoke too close to table area while I am having breakfast..hate the smell of smoke.. Should ban smoker near the building, smoker should smoke nearby park.

Review 48:Good location, affordable overnight, airport shutter bus at front, close to supermarket and restaurants... Friendly cat - great to see lose weight!! (Last May was overweight)

Review 49:The room had a bit of a smell, just simply maybe a closed up smell, or previous occupants' dirty clothes? But just lit an incense and all was well.

Review 50:Nice, helpful staff. Very clean bathrooms and also kitchen. They have a 16 year old cat called Fuji, who's got a funny face and owns the backpackers for sure.

Review 51:Weird water pressure

Review 52:Stayed here before and after the Overland Track. Good value, nice place, good communal areas. Perfect location for visiting Tasmania!

Review 53:Beautiful, clean and comfortable. One of the best hostels I've stayed in. Staff were very kind to me when I got sick. The atmosphere was wonderful. Highly recommend.

Review 54:I stayed in a double room with an ensuite. The bed was comfortable but there was no chair and no table in the room. I would have expected at least one chair.

Review 55:Insufficient facilities.... no sheet No doona One blanket per bed in wardrobe...probably not washed for some time I GOT BITES, SPOTS AND ITCHING FROM THE BED....BED BUGS There were two internet computers..BOTH WERE OUT OF ORDER. Only one kettle, one toaster and one microwave oven for up to 60+ guests There are a number of permanent stayers like a boarding house. A group of primary school children arrived the second night I was there...appeared to be on an excursion from a private school.

Review 56:Location

Review 57:It felt kind of like a prison. Very sterile place with little character. We checked in late and had no opportunity to rent towels or sheets without calling someone and being charged $20. The fee is not a problem, but they could have at least left the sheets and towels in the room with a note saying it was available at an extra cost. Very much a backpacker place.

Review 58:The cheapest price for accommodations on all of Tasmania, according to Booking.com. Facilities are clean. Parking available. They will leave a key out for you if checking in after hours.

Review 59:I did not like the fact that people can sleep in their own sleeping bags (in fact you are expected so, as otherwise they charge you for bedding). This increases the risk of bed bugs. The internet was not working very well and too expensive (only obtainable by the hour...). The house was quiete old and not in its best condition anymore. Generally the hostel was not expensive but in the end, with all the extra (bedding, wi-fi etc.) it added up.

Review 60:The location was nice (quiet area but close to the center). Male and female bathrooms were relatively clean and sperated (by gender). The hostel was relatively cheap (but refer to the negative things...).

Review 61:small window, rooms are clean but could be cleaner....

Review 62:comfortable bed & spacious room, fair distance to the city, big kitchen and clean bathroom, value for money, pet kitty

Review 63:Paid wifi, you had to pay for your blanket, location is out of the centre, reception closes at 7pm

Review 64:Great place to meet people. Especially the Dutchies (who work there). Coles is close by.

Review 65:Unfortunately the shower kept going scorching hot and then ice cold all the time which was a bit frustrating.

Review 66:I had the private room with ensuite, it was a really good size and everything was very clean. Comfortable bed too.

Review 67:Both computers for guests out of order - I don't have smart phone or wifi device.

Review 68:Quiet, spacious, attractive area, close to supermarket, food court, nice cafe, park. Off street parking. Great value.

Review 69:We got a room without a window. Beds were ok. Toilets were ok. Kitchen has gas stoves but were primitive and wouldn't light. Oven wouldn't work either.

Review 70:Staff were friendly and helpful. Booking system failed because it was not real time updates at hostel but they still managed to accommodate us.

Review 71:Gas stove a little difficult to use. Not enough tea towels.

Review 72:Easy access to town and facilities. Storage service while hiking. Local attraction at Cataract Gorge. Serviced by shuttle and tour operators.

Review 73:- WiFi not included - blankets & sheets not included - location was a tiiiny bit further away from city centre than preferred

Review 74:- huge kitchen, has everything you need - bathroom was rarely crowded, never had to wait in line - everything was spotless, spacious and neat - bunk bed did not creak, unlike many other hostels - beautiful park with huge trees right across the road

Review 75:The only problem is that it is a very busy backpackers with sometimes two or three tour groups arriving and then taking over the kitchen area. They tended to be very messy and inconsiderate of others. Hats off to the cleaning staff who often had huge messes that they cleaned up.

Review 76:Private room with ensuite was away from most of the traffic in this very busy backpackers. Kitchen had everything we needed to make meals and it was convenient to the CBD. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly.

Review 77:Appeared to be a couple of permanent residents (not staff) who were a little intrusive.

Review 78:Very convenient location. Double room with ensuite was excellent value for money

Review 79:A little bit far from the city centre.

Review 80:The staff was very friendly and gave us good recommendations about what to do in Tasmania. There were enough kitchen and bath room facilities. A Coles supermarket is nearby the hostel. Good price for a private room.

Review 81:Smoking outside meals dining area blew inside

Review 82:Heritage Building repurposed, comfy beds in single rooms, helpful staff, on the bus route, great park opposite.

Review 83:No free wifi and paid wifi tended not to work either. In house computers not operating. Annoying. This meant you had to take your device and find a cafe in the vicinity, where wifi time was usually limited.

Review 84:All facilities were great. The loungeroom was not only comfy, but quite stately. The architectural design is good, allowing to either join others or have time on your own. It was always possible to get space in the kitchen, have a shower, access the washing machines without having to wait. Price was very reasonable.

Review 85:the gas stove is old, you need to use a match to light it on.

Review 86:staff are very friendly. location is easy to find. big super market is just around the corner, which open till the mid of the night.

Review 87:It was my first time in Lauceston and a very first experience in a backpacker just overnight with my friends. Well, I like the room with bedding provided and warm enough. Facilities were good and most of all it's located within CBD area and walking distances to city, parks, the reserve area etc..

Review 88:It is rather rambling buildingand a bit confusing.

Review 89:I needed an affordable place to stay at short notice and the staff were very helpful with my questions and booking.

Review 90:Nice gentleman greeted us

Review 91:Paid wifi, Linen not included Not enough toilets

Review 92:I liked everything, from the friendly staff through very good facilities and amazing location.

Review 93:Pay for Wifi &Sheets, but if you've got your own sleeping bag, you should be fine. Drinking is also not allowed.

Review 94:Super clean, friendly staff

Review 95:Great location and facilities. Parking available.

Review 96:Nice location. Good facilities. Pick-up for the trip tp Cradle Mountain.

Review 97:The water stream of the tab was tiny and you had to pay 3,50 for sheet+blanket

Review 98:Clean and tidy place. Staff was also nice.

Review 99:Food

Review 100:Friendly animal loving lady

Review 101:staffs were very helpful and nice

Review 102:It was a bit cold

Review 103:The location

Review 104:Great location for Launceston

Review 105:Nothing.

Review 106:Warmth, good room, good location, met some nice people.

Review 107:No TV in the more expensive rooms. Showers very variable in temperature.

Review 108:Comfort for a fair price.

Review 109:The pillows. They are way to hard and gave a migraine

Review 110:The friendly stuff and the cat

Review 111:No heating from 6am to 8pm, paid WiFi only works occasionally.

Review 112:Nice Old Building, very close to City.

Review 113:bit cool. Could use a bed side table in room

Review 114:clean simple

Review 115:The staff is not that nice. And have to pay expensive wifi.

Review 116:The location is fair enough, near supermarkets
