Reviews for Ambassador City Centre Hotel

Review 1:There are various bars/cafes at the ground floor, and I lived at the first floor. At weekends the music is extremely LOUD till 3 AM , even the lights in my room were shaking because of the shock wave of the music. Impossible to sleep.

Review 2:great location, directly facing the Grote Markt. 10 minutes walking from Station Haarlem.

Review 3:The staff that checked my friend and I in was extremely rude, unfriendly, and I believe a racist!!!!. I'm not sure she's meantto be in the hospitality business at all.

Review 4:The location was very central, and easy access to the shops andrestaurants, all within walking distance.

Review 5:Hot steamy bathroom and bedroom due to no fan in bathroom along with filthy carpeting in the hallway were definitely a turn off.

Review 6:Decent sized room and very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.

Review 7:there were construction works taking place and would have liked to have been informed or a discount given. However they did offer to move us to another room,in all fairness

Review 8:great location

Review 9:we like the Garden Rooms but the building work is still going on after a year the last time we stayed we asked for a refund because of the noise but got no reply

Review 10:love the location the staff and the foyer

Review 11:This hotel is in the middle of renovations so it was a bit noisy at times. Also our room looked as if it needed a bit of freshening up. Carpets needed replacing. No plug in wash hand basin

Review 12:City centre location. Having a bat and not just a shower. Comfortable beds. Friendly staff. Nice breakfasts

Review 13:The hotel is being renovated so there was some noise during the day. Although our bed was remade and we got the extra pillows we asked for the trash cans were not emptied or towels replaced the second day.

Review 14:Location was right in city center on the main plaza. From the train station bus 300 will take you to within about 3 blocks. The train station is about a 15 min walk. Desk staff was helpful. It quiet. It felt very secure.

Review 15:The location is great! You see so much of Haarlem going from the station to the hotel. Great midpoint for Amsterdam, Schipol, Rotterdam. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Minimal hotel and amenities but you have everything you need. Nothing extra but for a stopover it was fine.

Review 16:Though the location is perfect, if your window is on the cathedral's side you might have difficulty in falling asleep due to the noise outside.

Review 17:The location is perfect.

Review 18:Tired hotel, not a very warm welcome. The first room had a leak from the ceiling over the bed and we were moved to an 'apartment' in another building. This was very tired and in poor condition. When we asked for some tea bags (there was a kettle and fridge) we were told they weren't included. Half hour before we were due to go out for the evening, there was a power cut in the street which obviously wasn't the hotel's fault but the response from the staff wasn't helpful and no sympathy for the inconvenience.

Review 19:Good location central to shops and restaurants

Review 20:I found the desk staff to be a bit awkward, as if they were surprised that I was asking basic questions. I would stay there again, however, loved the location.

Review 21:Room service was erratic Room was chilly even with the radiator turned full on No bar/restaurant to meet up with friends staying in same hotel in the evening

Review 22:Amazing foyer full of clocks Most comfortable bed ever Friendly staff Brilliant location In the garden annexe the clock is muted so really quiet Free lockable room for luggage for early arrivals or late departures

Review 23:I didn't like that I couldn't get a cheaper breakfast. I am not a big eaterbin the morning so a coffee and fruit or coffee and a rollbwould have been nice. I didn't get breakfast because it was too expensive.

Review 24:The location was perfect for what I wanted to do..

Review 25:Could have been cleaner, bed was way to soft, they are going through major renovations and there was a lot of noise, it would have been nice to be informed of this before our booking. It is very expensive for what it is!!

Review 26:Location in the centre was good

Review 27:No hob in room [hotel supplied one later] Limited TV channels

Review 28:Kitchenette/dining/lounge area Shower room was basically a wet room; very good Sofa v. comfortable

Review 29:I was in a room around the corner from the hotel not in the hotel itself. I also could not access the free wifi which was disappointing.

Review 30:Looks nice but I only slept there so did not have a chance to enjoy the facilities much.

Review 31:The were renovating the Hotel under our stay so constructions started early in the morning which meant we did not get too much sleep. Also too close to the square church which bells would awake us as well

Review 32:The location is great, decent rooms, good space

Review 33:The 1st room we were given was opposite a bar that played very loud heavy beat music until well past 1am and then had the empties collected at 6am. Despite the double glazing it was extremely noisy - we asked for a move but the hotel was full so we had 3 nights on little sleep. The room was tiny, the bed pressed up against the window so you had to squeeze yourself in on one side and a single wardrobe and 3 coat hangers for 2 adults on a 5 night stay so inappropriate. We were eventually moved to another room for nights 4 and 5. That was better, a little bit bigger and lots of hangers. It was quiet at night but the hotel is being renovated at the moment and this room was next to extensive building works and the workmen were in at 8am! Shame as we've stayed there before in an old fashioned quirky room and had a great time.

Review 34:Most of the staff are very nice and helpful

Review 35:Didn't have a bad experience

Review 36:The staff were very polite, the location of the property was perfect for one night - the side door entrance was handy and was nice to be able to use the electronic door keys to get through the buildings - seemed secure - wifi was helpful

Review 37:I think the matress in our room at least needs to be changed and saturday night was a bit noisy from street below.

Review 38:Location was very good and check-in was done the momemt we arrived although it was still early.

Review 39:The room 139 is absolutelly unconfortable, hot and noisy, just under the roof and with the air condition system the hole hotel behind the window, after asking the young lady at the reception about a possible change of room she refues, unpolite and unfriendly service, when I pay 90€ for a room I am expecting something different.

Review 40:Currently asking for compensation due to wet bathroom floor because of leaking sink which caused a damp smell in room, and also a bad night's sleep due to noise outside from 3.00am 4.30am.

Review 41:Location and breakfast

Review 42:The man who was working the night we checked in was quite rude. He didn't acknowledge us standing there waiting to check in whilst he chatted and joked with other guest, which was quite frustrating. Room was extremely hot.

Review 43:Location was great

Review 44:Very pleasant stay in this city centre hotel. Room very clean and spacious, staff very helpful and a beautiful collection of clocks on display around the hotel. The front of the hotel has a great view of the stunning Old Bavo church. Wonderful location for enjoying the city!

Review 45:Due to building works at the hotel, we had to walk down the street from reception in pouring rain to access our room.

Review 46:Pleasant room in quiet courtyard.

Review 47:A little noisy if you are on the square side from the bars and restaurants below. But great view of the church and square.

Review 48:Right in the middle of the old town. Great staff. Amazing clock collection!

Review 49:Staff at desk were often ill-informed or misinformed about their own facilities. Some rooms face a construction zone (the so-called garden).

Review 50:Location was central, and room was very comfortable.

Review 51:Considering we had prebooked a room for a whole week it was a bit much to arrive at sunday afternoon and have no other choice than to accept a room where consrtuction work started at 7 am every morning just outside the window. For this inconvenience and the necessity to moove to another hotel we were offered a refund of €12/night, which was considered a very generous offer.

Review 52:What's not to like?

Review 53:Stayed here a few times now and always had great service. Extremely comfortable and could not be more central. Even being in a room facing the square we did not get disturbed by weekend activities.

Review 54:For extending the stay got 50% higher price offered than on Booking.com Breakfast always the same, not a problem if you stay short.

Review 55:Location WiFi Rooms Friendly stuff

Review 56:Some rooms have windows facing the square with a lot of restaurants and it could be quite noisy at night.

Review 57:Perfect location, good and spacious room, excellent breakfast. I would definitely stay this hotel next time.

Review 58:I had to leave.

Review 59:Easy to reach via the bus. The staff was very friend,y and helpful. We had three in the room and never felt crowded. The beds were very comfortable.

Review 60:Room was far too hot!! Window would not stay open. Noisy room at front of hotel.

Review 61:Very friendly staff. Great location with many restaurants and bars nearby. Good breakfast. Comfortable beds.

Review 62:Hotel under renovations. Room number indicated room would be on first floor, however, an elevator to the "first floor" was required then, 39 stairs (two staircases) to room. Staff provided little information or incorrect information concerning facilities around the hotel and in the area.

Review 63:Location of hotel in the heart of old Haarlem. Room was clean and large

Review 64:They need to replace the carpet, but that's a minor detail.

Review 65:Although there are rooms that you can't get to without dealing with stairs, the hotel was able to book my elderly parents into a room on a level with the elevator, and me into the room next to them. The three teenagers were in a spacious room that could actually sleep 6. It was a lot more spacious, quieter and cheaper than a hotel in Amsterdam would have been, and the clocks and furniture added a lot of interest and atmosphere. The hotel's expansion was not finished but had no effect on our stay.

Review 66:The breakfast was not so good, the room had a bad ventilation and the people at the reception are not very kind. This hotel is way to expensive for the quality they are providing.

Review 67:Location is quite good.

Review 68:Our room was in an annex, around the corner from the main door. Because of constructing work the patio was an untidy mess. Even the corridoors were dirty.

Review 69:Situated in the center of the old town. Shops, museums and restaurants near. The facade and the reception are very appealing, the room was very modern and big.

Review 70:There is a lot of building work going on, not mentioned when booking..Some areas of the hotel were only accessible by going outside andwalking round the corner to another street.. No fun with luggage and inthe rain.. More updating required, as many areas were rather"tired"..potentially an interesting and central location..

Review 71:An eclectic mix of antiques, clocks and curiosities...Egyptian toChinese...a mix of modern rooms and the occasional four poster bed..

Review 72:Our room was a standard room and pretty basic. Mismatched furniture and bare light wasn't good.

Review 73:Handy for the centre of Haarlem. Staff were pleasant.

Review 74:Very difficult to park a car - or even to get near to drop the cases.

Review 75:Good value -bags of character (I particularly liked all the clocks!); good central location with many restaurants nearby. 10 minute walk to the station with a frequent 15 minute train ride to Amsterdam so a practical alternative base for a short trip to Holland.

Review 76:The building works in progress meant access to our garden room was out of the main hotel and around the corner.

Review 77:Location is the attraction of this hotel, even though everything is a bit jaded, the overall experience was positive.

Review 78:This comment is not related to the hotel at all. But I just feel like I have to make it known that people in the train & bus station are not that friendly and helpful. So, don't expect much assistance on directions and info.

Review 79:It's like spending a night in a clock museum. Every turn you'll find a piece that tells a story. Front desk staff on duty Susana is a wonderful lady, thank you. Beautiful hotel, well kept and I'd really recommend anyone who will visit Netherlands to make time to Haarlem.

Review 80:The breakfast was disappointing...burned bacon and empty trays. Not worth the €14.50 we paid.

Review 81:Next to the Grote Kerk and close to shops and restaurants.

Review 82:Hotel is so old and poorly maintained. Please someone call the guy from Hotel Impossible tv show. Seriously, its a pitty that such a awesome building and perfect location is being wasted like this. I've stayed in better 2 star hotels.

Review 83:Location is perfect in the heart of Haarlem, right in the Grote Markt behind Sint Bavo church.

Review 84:Parts under construction at the moment

Review 85:Good location with plenty of restaurants and Bars close by Strong WIFI Bus service close by direct to the airport for only 5 euro

Review 86:The lighting was not very good. Bath room mirror was high. Two single beds together was not real comfortable for a couple who likes to sleep close together.

Review 87:We liked the location. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

Review 88:We weren't expecting much, but this experience has surpassed that by a mile. Dirty room, with blood (!!) on the toilet seat. Also, they were renovating, which doesn't have to be bad, but it needs to be stated upfront! Also, the family room is advertised as a split level room, that wasn't the case, it was 4 beds dumped into 1 room. Never again.

Review 89:There were 2 sets of double doors to get into the hotel - staff never helped me in or out pushing my husbands wheelchair with our bag, by even opening a door. The room was back out the holet, down the street in a yard, through another 2 doors and builders had put scaffolding against it, cupboards were too high, no grab rails and sand came in as they were working outside it. We paid for a superior room and when we complained on our departure we were offered a free breakfast or 15% off if we stay there again. Unlikely it was a one off visit.

Review 90:The location was very near our friends home.

Review 91:Specified there was free wi-fi. We arrived Friday afternoon and it was not until the Monday morning just prior to leaving that the free wi-fi logo appeared in list of wi-fi choices, however, when selected you still could not access the internet.

Review 92:I requested a superior room and paid for this too. I have stayed in this hotel previously about 6 years ago and stayed in the room next door which was just standard. I could not see any difference between the two rooms so I was disappointed about this.

Review 93:Awful with small kids. We were two floors up (the steepest, tallest and shallowest steps i've ever seen!) and hauling children and all their stuff was not good. Also, we were terrified our two year old was going to fall down them and break her neck. I couldn't even fit my whole foot on them. The website mentions a courtyard but there was so much construction going on, there was nothing to enjoy and only noise coming from it. Also, I reserved a room that was supposed to have a nice view of the church but when we got there, she said all rooms were taken so we got another. Isn't that what a reservation is?

Review 94:The location was great, right in the Grote Markt, which of course makes parking harder if you bring your car, but there is a nearby parking garage that isn't too expensive. The sushi restaurant next door was amazing and so convenient.

Review 95:Wifi was extremely poor in the rooms, breakfast wasn't worth the money.

Review 96:The rooms were clean, very well taken care of, came at a good price and the location is perfect, as central in Haarlem as can be, right across the main cathedral. We traveled with kids (2 and 4) who really enjoyed the hotel and the staff were very friendly to them.

Review 97:Church bells were a bit noisy as it is very close to the church.

Review 98:We had a family room and it was spread over two floors, a twin downstairs and another upstairs. Perfect for what we wanted. Location could not have been better.

Review 99:the last tme we stayed in this room we had a free upgrade this time we payd a supplement the building work outside was not good we requested a refund of the supplement and where told by the lovely receptionist this would happen it hasnt please sort ths as a lovely hotel

Review 100:Nice room we have stayed in this room before

Review 101:Very noisy, loud music coming from bar next door until nearly 2am! Apparently the bar is supposed to turn the music down at 1am...this level of noise is unacceptable for people who have business to attend to the next day. I have stayed here before, if you get room on the other side of the hotel or back it is not a problem. Rooms are shabby, tired decor and bashrooms have no heating and are cold. I will not stay here again, better hotels for similar money close by.

Review 102:Location excellent, breakfast good

Review 103:Staff was in a bad mood on arrival. I had a lot of heavy luggage but was given a room all the way in the back of the hotel, which meant walking through corridors and a few small steps in between. Room was renovated and new - fine, in principle, but a bit smelly of paint and cleaning agents.

Review 104:Perfect location in the city centre.

Review 105:Common areas need refurbishment.

Review 106:Good value for money, hotel located in a very center of Haarlem, with a view to the cathedral. 10 minutes walk to train station, with frequent connections to Amsterdam Centraal. Clean, comfortable rooms, breakfast ok.

Review 107:The layout, small stairs and unlevel floors, makes the place less suitable for people in wheelchairs. I could not open the windows. No desk to work on and power sockets were located on inconvenient places.

Review 108:I stayed here for a few nights and had meetings during the day. The location is perfect: in the center of Haarlem. The place is clean and the staff is professional.

Review 109:Our room was bleak. Lighting poor, no heat in the bathroom so that the floor was never dry. Towel rail far too high (over 6 feet) and no hooks for bath robes. Room cleaning was minimal (e.g. cups not always washed) However the hotel is being refurbished and it should be able to deal with the above problems.

Review 110:The location is excellent in the heart of the beautiful old city

Review 111:The rooms are very simple and "tired looking". The man at the reception asked me to pay when I arrived even if the room was guaranteed with creditcard when I booked. I refused and in the end he accepted that.

Review 112:Location is perfect. Breakfast ok.

Review 113:Probably got upgraded because there was building work going on in"the garden" looked like a new kitchen being fitted noisy from 8am although the workmen were friendly

Review 114:We got a free upgrade to a garden room which was nice would have been better in the summer but we still sat outside with our coats on

Review 115:Room size plus staff could be more helpful

Review 116:Location is very good. Handy to Coffee shops, Shopping centres plus the train station. great weekly markets. Better location to stay than Amsterdam Central

Review 117:I liked everything

Review 118:Perfect location being situated just off Grote Markt, with a stunning view of the church. Filled with beautiful antiques, and a calm and soothing ambiance.

Review 119:Staff could be more friendly, although most were polite and very matter of fact. (Not very personal and welcoming) Like "how was your day" would be nice to hear.

Review 120:Location was great. Cozy rooms.

Review 121:Our room was out dated uncomfortable, bedding old pillows awfull, and you could here all the bars out side all night long road sweepers in morning (every day) wouldn't go back.

Review 122:Location is right in the center of Haarlem Internet is excellent The staff were professional and worked with a smile Room was very large and the bed was great Great, heavy curtains that sealed the light out properly.

Review 123:the hotel was not friendly staff, you can hear every thing in the other rooms and hall the doors where extremely loud. the night watch man was not polite at all. and 14 euros for onbite is out of controlee, you can go the V&D and have better for 6 euro all in. they really need to work on it. the room was not nice the furnishings where not nice. and old, falling apart as well. I do not seeing me staying there any more, for a little more you can stay just next to them and have more for your money.

Review 124:I liked the location, the wifi was really good, the house keeping was nice and helpful

Review 125:there are no parking places. parking in the near is very expensive! 40,-€/day free parking at a P&R, Taxi to there costs 7,50€ and 15minutes.

Review 126:location directly in the center, short ways to everything, very nice city.

Review 127:nothing

Review 128:the location is ideal, we asked for a quiet room and we were given a room at back of hotel which was excellant. the room was huge and so was the bed. will stay again

Review 129:There were quite a few stairs we had to carry luggage up, but they are in the process of upgrading elevator service.

Review 130:Location was great, we could walk to everything, including a wonderful saturday market in the square and the Haarlem Archives for genealogy research! No problem with street noise in our room which was roomy and cozy with a loft. Hotel has old world charm, staff friendly.

Review 131:Receptionist on check in was rude and arrogant, to the extent that my wife wanted to leave, and tried to charge 1Euro for a glass of hot water. Next day another, helpful and friendly receptionist told us hot water, coffee and tea were available in reception free. Windows in the room cannot be opened by the occupant. Bathroom fan only operated for a short time after flushing the toilet, hence too much steam when having a shower. Carpets were in stained and felt sticky to the touch in places.

Review 132:Hotel was conveniently located. Rooms were reasonably clean.

Review 133:One small window and little natural light. because work was going on outside and scaffolding was everywhere.

Review 134:Comfortable bed. Large bathroom. Great location.

Review 135:Request to correct wrong invoice was denied at front desk due to absence of service manager. Second request thru phone was barely accepted only with detailed explanation but still no mail from hotel for three days.

Review 136:Breakfast a bit expensive at 14.50 euros. Room was very stuffy and as our room overlooked a side street with a bar (pub) it was very noisy some nights, especially Friday and Saturday until about 3am, so having the windows open was not an option. ( A fan was provided but too noisy to keep on all night)

Review 137:good location with plenty of restaurants in the evening. Not so many places for breakfast in the morning. Room a good size and not cramped.

Review 138:Construction noises (however not in the room); some youngsters making noise in the street at night, so impossible to leave window open (not your fault of course). Staircase very small, room unattainable with lift. Difficult with suitcase and "high heels"

Review 139:Very nice, comfortable, bit room and bathroom

Review 140:Only that it was under construction but that really had no bearing onour stay. There was no construction noise while we were there.

Review 141:It's location and how helpful the staff was. The room was quitelarge and bathroom shower was awesome. After traveling through Europethe majority of places we stayed were very small. Restaurants and shopsright out the hotels front door. 'No cars' in the down town areawas really sweet as well.

The Fine Print

If guests sleeping in extra beds also would like breakfast, please mention this in the Special Request box when booking. Please note that breakfast is excluded.
