Reviews for Hotell Strandporten
Review 1:Sometimes nobody was at the reception.
Review 2:Almost everything was good. This stylish and comfortable accommodation is located at a lovely plaza with a fountain, and directly connected via a charming porch to the park by the Baltic Sea. A good breakfast was served in a room with a balcony.
Review 3:All the staff are fabulous, happy to assist The little touches add tothe experience, E.G. candles lit, afternoon tea provided Location isgreat - especially being in the old town Special mention should be madeof Josef who went above and beyond to assist us with our lost property
Review 4:Nothing at all !!
Review 5:The friendliness of the entire staff. The location is great, right in the "Old town". The variety of foods at the breakfast (& complimentary afternoon tea.) was terrific. I particularly liked the big loaf of sourdough bread, fresh each morning.
Review 6:Nothing
Review 7:Staffs are all friendly. A staff working at breakfast room was very hard working. She always put meal into empty plates on the bar. Good location to the seaside and city center.
Review 8:We stayed two nights and the room wasn't cleaned. Told the receptionist who didn't really make an effort to do anything about it as the cleaning personnel was gone.. They were also extreme inflexibly about adding an additional person to the booking before our arrival. No professional handling ..
Review 9:Liked the afternoon tea
Review 10:Not any.
Review 11:Room with romantic sea view and right in city center. With lift, free minibar and comforting bed. And the staff are super kind and helpful! Should stay longer in this beautiful island!
Review 12:Air conditioning didn't work great at all.
Review 13:Perfect location! In town with access to everything, but on the outskirts of the business so you don't need to deal with that part.
Review 14:Double bed is a bit small for us, probably 140cm in width.
Review 15:Nice location, near to the seaside and inside the ancient city wall. Very friendly staff at reception, tasty breakfast and GREAT afternoon tea!
Review 16:“One night in a peaceful, friendly, comfortable hotel” 5 of 5starsReviewed 6 days ago new This trip was a sort of sampler ofScandinavia. We visited many places over four countries, briefly, andfor both of us a major highlight was Visby. And the stand-out hotelwas this one.It is a simple hotel, elegant and well located in the old town. Our double room was one floor up, facing the road and the building opposite. Despite that and being near an O'Leary's sports bar, it was cozy and quiet. That may have been because of being off-season though I think it would be comfortable anytime. The staff were friendly always and the best thing, unobtrusive. We felt as though we had the place to ourselves which was very pleasant when compared to large hotels. The dining room was well-appointed, light and airy, with a small, well laid-out buffet-style selection for breakfast, with cereals, bread, cold meats, cheese and the rest. Even the mix of music playing was ideal for the room and time of day. We were able to relax completely and chat and think about our day. In the afternoon the dining room provides afternoon tea, self-serve style. It was nice to arrive to. Check-in, drop things off in the room and enjoy a coffee and cake before venturing out into the beauty that is Visby's old town. There is a park just outside the door and the sea is a few minutes easy walk. We travel quite a bit to many places and it is so rare to find a hotel in which there is nothing at all that niggles or annoys. This hotel was one of those rare places to stay. Whenever we swing back to Gotland and Visby, this will be a definite booking. Thanks to the staff, you gave us a stay to remember, especially as it was our 10th wedding anniversary.
Review 17:We found Hotell Strandporten to be a delightful hotel within easy walking distance to Old town sites. Excellent front desk staff, lovely breakfast and afternoon tea. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Review 18:I can't imagine a more ideal location in a village straight out of a fairy tale. Definitely the nicest place I've ever stayed at, and the most affordable during my stay in Sweden.
Review 19:Just one tip: Pay your hotel bill the night before you leave if you go on the early ferry. No one is at the desk until 8:00 a.m., and the ferry leaves at 7:30! So, you might get a frantic email from them asking for payment after you have left.
Review 20:The location of this hotel is perfect. Right in the heart of Visby, easy to walk to from the ferry. The accommodations are clean and comfortable. The breakfast is great, and the staff is friendly.
Review 21:Could not fault
Review 22:Loved our room and bathroom with heated floor. Enjoyed the breakfast choices plenty of food that was stocked up during the whole breakfast hours. Also loved the breakfast hours (Not too Early). Good healthy choices. The Afternoon Tea where not to miss, muffins that melted in your mouth Nothing was any problem for the staff who where helpful and friendly. We are so very pleased we chose to stay at Hotell Strandporten Visby what a fairy tail place, so relaxing. Thank you
Review 23:In the confirmation of the reservation was stated that we would have sea view but we could not see any beach, shore or water. The breakfast room is cosy and quality is good. However, the lady did not pay attention whether tables needed to be cleaned for the next guests. No wine in the mini bar...
Review 24:Very central location, nice room although beds are really small. I stayed in the hotel with my mother.
Review 25:The extra winding set of stairs from the elevator to ascend to the floor above where my room was came as a surprise. I needed help with my bags. The bathroom had no soap at all, which isn't a problem for me, as I travel with this stuff, but it was unusual, given the overall high quality of every other detail. The bath/shower/tub is a positive and a minus. It is very hard to get into, the water temperature was too low for me, at 38˚C, and the intricacy of the arrangements in that extraordinary setup made it impossible to stand and just take a shower. See my review on TripAdvisor for pictures.
Review 26:I stayed in the rooftop mini-apartment style room, with an attached deck/veranda and a full view of the Baltic, with a partial (rooftops) view of the city of Visby. The weather cooperated most of the time, and it was extraordinarily beautiful up there, like being in your own little private world. You can't see any other hotel guests and they mostly cannot see you (although there is a window that looks out on the deck from someone's room, but the inhabitants kept their curtain closed most of the time). The room itself is tastefully decorated. There is a small refrigerator, plus ironing board. The downstairs breakfast room is good, plus there's outside seating. Food offerings are fairly standard for Sweden, but a little sparse. Overall, though, it's a lovely space, but other rooms might not be so great. Ask for #31 if you want these amenities and quiet, otherwise the building is shared with O'Learys sportsbar, which I can only assume other guests have to listen to. Lower floors are near the street noise, and Visby can be very noisy, filled with party-goers, depending on the time of year. I was there for the end of Medieval week, and it was pretty noisy, but up on my veranda I got to watch the Pleaides and a lightning storm all at the same time. Very cool.
Review 27:Old Visby is a bit of a tourist trap and a theme park. The countryside is impressive, though.
Review 28:Everything was basically great as such. My room faced the cobblestoned street so earplugs came in handy. Not much traffic during the night but it sure starts before you'll be up. Lots of fruit and berries on the breakfast table and the bread is fab. Parking is cheap and easy. Nice staff. The Italianare restaurant a few minutes up the street is very good.
Review 29:More mechanical rather than charming and welcoming. Front desk staff nice enough, but no knowledge about parking rules and regulations which were alien to us. This is the biggest disadvantage, where to park without getting a ticket. Catering staff cold and didn't say a word at breakfast.
Review 30:Clean, modern converted hotel in good central location. Wi-Fi worked a treat. Comfortable beds.
Review 31:Nice staffs, good breakfast.
Review 32:The neighbouring O'Leary pub
Review 33:hospitality, feeling of being welcomed, afternoon tea, clean and hygienic
Review 34:Appreciate the provided fruits as hospitality for our anniversary. It is small but feel the care from the hotel.
Review 35:breakfast little tight on bread at 09:30
Review 36:personal and location
Review 37:An important telephone message was left with the desk. Unfortunately, we didn't receive the message until we. checked out.

Review 47:- the women Who welcome us, she was really "Cold" but it seams to be usual in Sweden ... - wifi does not work on the 2nd floor;
Review 48:- Nice location; - tea/coffee Time during the afternoon; - beautiful city and charming hôtel; - helpful staff a part of the first contact!
Review 49:There were some cobwebs in the room and the wifi wasn't working.
Review 50:The style was fabulous, it is small and very welcoming. Overall it was excellent!
Review 51:Don't change a thing!
Review 52:The location of this hotel and the view from our room overlooking thesouthwest corner of the midieval Visby city wall and the Baltic beyondapproached being unbelievable. It will forever remain one of the lastingmemories from our 2-week Sweden/Dnmark vacation.
Review 53:It was a little hard to find since the sign faces away from the main street, but if you look for O'Leary's Bar and Restaurant you will see it just to the side. (we did not hear O'Leary noise at all.)
Review 54:Everything--beautiful guest rooms and public space. This is a small hotel along a quiet street with views out the windows of georgeous old buildings, a wonderful fountain and a park. We could even see the Baltic Sea. After spending a few days at a chain hotel in Stockholm this was so refreshing. It was quiet and luxurious, with a good location for walking through Visby--and Visby is well worth the trip.
Review 55:There is a pub in the ground floor that was a bit loud on my first night. However, it did not last until very late.
Review 56:The location is perfect, at the heart of Visby's old town. The bed and breakfast is family-run, and all the staff was extremely welcoming. Breakfast was good and varied.
Review 57:The rainshowerhead was a bit faulty, so the pressure wasn't ideal. But this was a minor problem.
Review 58:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was tastefully and stylishly decorated and the bed very comfortable. Overall, the hotel was very cosy, quiet and comfortable.
Review 59:The breakfast was excelent but the staff where at some times not presentmaking questions and service difficult.
Review 60:The hotel is located exactly where you want to be in wisby. Like a smalloutlandish flower of modern design it sits between the almost 1000 yearsold city wall and an medival house in the style that wisby is full of.The staffs attitude is everything but outlandish, a warm personalwelcome from the family that runs the establishment and good serviceduring the whole stay. The personal touch in the service is contrastedwith a strict, modern and somewhat overconfident desig that pervadesevery inch of the hotel. The rooms and beds are wounderfull!
Review 61:Cosy and comfortable hotel with friendly personnel and excellent location. Can be recomended.
Review 62:Should improve wifi signal. Wifi can use only at the reception area
Review 63:The hotel is very nice , clean and comfortable

Review 68:Nice design, casual atmosphere.Excellent location.
Review 69:At this hotel you feel special - thanks to the friendly staff, thebeatiful interior design, tasty breakfast and intriguingsurroundings of Visby.
Review 70:No medium size towel in the bath room.
Review 71:Flexible, attentive and welcoming staff who met our demands and helped in providing information.
