Reviews for LUX* Saint Gilles

Review 1:Bad value for money. Prices in Hotel are really expensive! 9 Euros for coconut water is a joke! 9 euros for a smoothie! There was dust on the shelves. Very disappointing for a 5 stars hotel. Only a bathtub, no showers. No blanket for the bed. The garden in the hotel doesn't even look like a 5 stars and the buildings are old.

Review 2:Location

Review 3:Stayed there for two days. Lovely place, interestingly furnished and creatively built. The staff is wonderful. Very helpful. With some of the staff English is a bit of a problem, but on the other hand this is France:). Special regards and thanks to the wonderful Lady-Concierge and to the girl who delivered us breakfast to the room. Would come here again, highly recommended. Stayed there for two days. Review 4:Beautiful hotel with great service, very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast and dinner. Truely gorgeous pool. Located at a beautiful and clean beach. Would love to come back soon!

Review 5:Infrastructures (bedroom quarters) start aging, might need to be refursbished.

Review 6:Prime location of the hotel, right on a very nice beach, Personnel very helpful, smiling and Professional High quality of services

Review 7:Terrible value for money, very high food and drinks prices, mediocre cuisine (even Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve dinners weren't great). Hotel definately needs renovation, concierge is not very professional and evening entertainment offering is poor. Apparently it's the only 5 star hotel on Reunion, but it does not live up to the rating - it is more a 3 star facility.

Review 8:Nice beach (a lot of seashell though - it is located by the lagoon and the beach is not being cleaned up regularly), pleasant yet not very competent staff.

Review 9:Loved the Location, the food -particularly in the Orangerie and the restaurant on the beach, the Breakfast Buffets. Jacques Antony was an excellent chef - his fish dishes were Divine!

Review 10:- terribly overpriced - the rooms are quite small/ decoration isn't what I expected - more of a 4 stars hotel than a 5

Review 11:- friendly staff - great service - very good location - feels like holidays

Review 12:I found our room small and austere. The bathroom is very tiny for any decent hotel room, let alone a 5-star hotel room. And no bidet in a French hotel? Vraiment!? The breakfast is good but there is one major concern that a couple other online reviewers have mentioned: the many birds that feed off the diners’ tables and serving tables. I ate 10 breakfasts at the LUX and experienced immediate diarrhea following eight of those breakfasts. The many birds routinely scamper around and eat from the bread cutting board, bowls of bread and other foods, and descend on diners’ tables if the diner briefly leaves. It is very unhygienic and in most countries, health authorities would close such a restaurant. It needs to be corrected. The one exception of the helpful staff occurred when I asked Concierge Services where I should catch the Express Bus back to St Denis. I was told to skip the nearby Bruniquel stop and walk to the next stop, L’Hermitage. But when I did just that, I found the Express Bus did not stop at L’Hermitage, but rather stopped next a couple kilometers farther on. I ended up on a local bus to St Denis, it took one hour just to reach St. Paul, and I nearly missed my flight to London. A very stressful way to end my 10 night stay at the LUX. So all in all, a 3.5 star experience for me, and I would not stay at a LUX Hotel again.

Review 13:LUX staff was friendly and largely helpful (with one exception). Breakfast was good with one major concern.

Review 14:- Something to think about for the next hotel refurbishment- the bed in the room could be a little more comfortable like the Sofitel bed,and the furnishings a little more chic. I found them a little traditional.

Review 15:-After a few initial issues, the service from the staff flowed and they took real care of the detail. - Great, peaceful location with a excellent variety of activities - Superb food and service in the restaurants. - Lovely, comfortable room

Review 16:Food is overpriced; Having birds flying on the breakfast buffet is unhygienic and unacceptable for a 5-star hotel; breakfast buffet was good but would benefit from more variety.

Review 17:Friendliness of the staff (in particular Agnes, one of the concierges); concierge service, in general; excellent rooms and beds; amazing pool; open air cinema (with popcorn!); wonderful beach.

Review 18:The restaurant La plage is a little over priced and service is slow and the staff less friendly. I would rather recommend the snack bar/restaurant which is really good and the staff is very nice.

Review 19:Very relaxing, beautiful clean beach, friendly staff, comfortable room.

Review 20:Sometimes hard to pay your bill for meals as staff keep moving around.

Review 21:Lots of activities at the weekend. Great staff at the beach bar and some at the normal bar.

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:Friendly people and amazing location Great service level

Review 24:Very polite, smiley and helpful staff

Review 25:wifi very poor, would be nice to have wider selection of dishes

Review 26:location, facility, staff,

Review 27:-the beach is not special and not well equipped -a 5 star hotel with no spa, no steam room ? -wifi not good

Review 28:the garden the colonial style buildings

Review 29:Several things in the room either did not work properly or were broken.

Review 30:The water in the lagoon

Review 31:The view from the room on the sea was great

Review 32:A little bit expensive...

Review 33:Location + nice, helpful and friendly staff. Good food.

Review 34:Eyerything

Review 35:Smokers in adjacent rooms preventing us from enjoying sitting outside room and at mealtimes (in bar area)

Review 36:Sheer luxury Location Beach immediately in front of room Every aspect had been thought of and catered for (beach towels, snorkelling kit, etc)

Review 37:Dampness in bathroom. Layout of bathroom and size. Dampness in bathroom. Layout of bathroom and size. To eat at the casual restaurant facilities in the hotel was really too expensive for what was being served. Alcohol in general was extremely expensive and the cocktails were not good at all. I ordered an Irish whiskey before dinner one evening. The whiskey barely covered bottom of the glass... To our surprise, on the last evening we did not get our usual bottle of fresh water and get our bed turned down…. My wife and I also noticed that while there were seminar groups or weddings in the hotel, little attention was given to the other guests… on our last evening, we waited 1 hour to be served at dinner and the food was cold…This I believe is not 5 star service…

Review 38:The welcome. Very, very friendly staff. The Orangerie Restaurant was excellent albeit pricey.

Review 39:While shark-free and beautiful, the beach was not pleasant to walk on or swim in - too many sea shells and other debris that cut your feet. Bring water shoes!

Review 40:A clean, quiet and relaxing hotel with direct access to a shark-free beach, and the best restaurant we could find in the area! Friendly staff, good (though sometimes slow) service, and a fun but not intrusive entertainment program.

Review 41:Any chance of dropping the price of a beer?

Review 42:All the staff were brilliant. The way the accommodation has been planned out is great. Food was just fine for us Location was super. Lagoon lovely and safe. Swimming pool is deceptively large (good pool). Would we go back to Reunion? yes. Would We go back to LUX? Yes (but there is so much to do in Reunion you may need to plan your accommodation in accordance to your activities). Concierge service was just absolutely brilliant (Benjamin, Alexandra and Marine were real stars).

Review 43:The staff is totally inexperienced. To save money trainees are used instead of proper Hotel personnel. As they say :"Pay them peanuts, you get monkeys" The Conciergerie was supposed to properly book excursions..but did not check execution..again the fault of some trainee who had already left the Hotel...Unbelievable responses from other staff members to various queries showing they had no Hotel training...

Review 44:One and only star : Benjamin Berich, Concierge, who solved some of the problems

Review 45:Not a 5 Star hotel in all dimensions (staff and service and slow and seems inexperienced, rooms are ok but remind of much cheaper hotel categories, location is ok but not again not top notch, the beach equipment was cheap plastic sun loungers which are not commonly used by five star hotels etc)

Review 46:Lobby and bar area are nice

Review 47:The service isn't up to the hotel standards, and lacks professionalism The room service is really terrible (wrong order, delays, overpriced, etc.) Mini bar never replenished Rooms are clean but collective areas were not always. We complained at the reception and nobody reacted to any of these. Really too bad.

Review 48:Very nice facilities, the hotel is right on the beach, the swimming pool isvery big and beautiful ( but the water is cold...) and the superior rooms are really nice (although bathrooms are a bit small).

Review 49:This is not a 5 star hotel! It might be one of the best in La Réunion(where hotel standards seem to be much lower than in Mauritius), butsurely does not deserve more than 4 stars. The standard of the rooms andthe quality of the restaurant are good, but never good enough for 5stars. Very negative: Lots of private events in the hotel, as a resultof this two of the three restaurants were always closed for hotel guests- even guests who payed for half board had no other chance than to go tothe same buffet restaurant every day. Even more negative: The hotelorganised a very loud private party in the garden, loud music playingtill late at night in front of the bungalows and no chance to sleep -guests informed the hotel staff and asked to turn down the music, butnothing happened. We had the strong impression to be in a location whereprivate conferences and events were much more important than the hotelguests. This hotel is much too expensive for the quality they offer. There are many other hotels and restaurants in the area, next time wewill stay in another hotel where we get more value for our money and abetter treatment as paying customers.

Review 50:I found the room and especially the bathroom very small for a 5-starhotel and our mattrass was rather worn out .For an African island I alsofound the cost of living extremely expensive, but that is not the faultof the hotel.

Review 51:The location and facilities were all very good. I liked the fact that wehad a private beach with loungers and snorkelling equipment. There islots of physical activity to do on the premises itself.

Review 52:All in all the room is not 5 star. Not one single English channel ontv but for cnn which had no signal the last 2 days. So not at alltourist friendly.

Review 53:It was close to the beach/seaside.

Review 54:Over-rated and over-priced. Uncomfortable chairs. Over-priced food. A long, long way from the airport. Like a glorified motel!

Review 55:Potential for sharks in the lagoon!

Review 56:Helpfulness of front office staff

Review 57:price high for breakfast buffet and dinner buffet

Review 58:Quietness and nice environment

Review 59:Too big

Review 60:Pool, breakfast, bar
