Reviews for Train Spot Guesthouse

Review 1:We reserved two units but one had problems so we two couples shared one apartment. It was fine. You probably need to drive up to Narvao for a decent meal.

Review 2:Eduardo sat with us at breakfast and answered our many questions about the social, geographical and historical complexities of the Marvao area. Trainspot was a lovely alternative hotel.

Review 3:We should have stayed longer!

Review 4:We loved everything! The concept of the hotel, the cleanliness, the sympathy of the staff, the location... A place to remember!

Review 5:Magical place, great historic atmosphere, out in the middle of nowhere, beautiful countryside. Wish we could have stayed more than one night and taken full advantage of bicycling on paved, empty roads through hilly, rocky countryside dotted with farm animals.

Review 6:in mid September the town where the hotel is located was completely sleepy after 8 pm, no place to go out. A larger town was 10 km away - only by car

Review 7:very friendly staff, the hotel is really unique in its character

Review 8:Fantastic location - peaceful (apart from the village church bell which chimes through the night every hour and half hour!). If you like rustic charm and a location steeped in history, this is the perfect place. The staff were fun and very friendly.

Review 9:We should have stayed longer. If only we knew what we know today.

Review 10:Everything was exceptional, the location, the detail and effort put into the hotel decoration, the history, the little guest house we stayed in, the old station building, the peaceful area and the warm welcome received. It was like visiting disneyland theme park, only better! Its a magical place with history that invites one to let loose one's imagination and creativity. It provides you with an unique authentic atmosphere and a great base from which to explore local monuments, castles and Alentejo's beautiful countryside and cuisine. The hotel has been beautifully renovated, but its original character has been conserved. It's very clean and comfortable. A nearby restaurant provides one with a large variety of excellent traditional plates. If only we had stayed stay longer!

Review 11:A very close church ring its bell every one hour, even during the night.

Review 12:Building a guesthouse on an old train station is great concept. The hosts are very nice.

Review 13:Lack of air-conditioning and all this small things that make your stay more comfortable: power outlets, hangers etc.

Review 14:The owners made this place!! Guesthouse location is just sublime and the architectural concept is fantastic! Staying in the real train station is just once in a lifetime experience!!

Review 15:Nothing

Review 16:Everything was amazing, the location, the decoration of the little house we stayed in, the old station building, the peaceful area and the warm welcome received from Lina and her colleagues. We wished we had planned to stay longer.

Review 17:Very original idea of a B&B in an old train station. Good location, near interesting places to visit and very quiet, perfect to relax and have a break. Rooms were clean and decoration was tasteful. All appliances were available and we felt we had everything we needed, specially travelling with a small baby.

Review 18:Comfortable small hotel, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and all very clean. Great building, part of the old train station in a small rural and quiet town, close to Marvao. Loved the breakfast around the old kitchen table. Recommend local Restaurante Sabores de Marvao.

Review 19:Everything was better than described, we loved it. People with motor disabilities might be a bit challenged.

Review 20:You will sleep and relax in an actual train station! The place is beautifully renovated, but lost none of its original character.

Review 21:Lovely lovely lovely setting in a really small village with cork trees and sheep and a very rural feel. The guest house is beautifully decorated. The kitchen in wich you have breakfast, omg. Loved this place and would go the extra miles just to visit one more time in the future. An absolute gem!

Review 22:Quite noisy because the walls /doors are thin. Actually the owners admit that and tell you about it in advance.

Review 23:Its interesting conceptually because its in former train station. The design preserved its old fashioned industrial beauty. Comfort is pretty basic. All that you need, but like at 2-star hotel. Its up to you whether you can compromise with a comfort to find yourself in a very unusual and creative place. Very Berliner style of living in a good meaning.:)

Review 24:The staff were fantastic & extremely helpful, the location is great and if you have a car it's close to everything interesting in the area. We've never been to a guest house with so much charm! It's clean, the beds are perfect & big and the breakfast is delicious. We'd recommend everybody to pay this very special place a visit. We at least enjoyed it very much and hope we'll be able to come back sometime.

Review 25:The apartment itself was well equiped but rather basic (concrete floors). Too late breakfast (starts at 9 am).

Review 26:An interesting location - in an annex to a 19th century beautiful former railway station. Very quiet. Nice hall with chimney, where the guests sit in the evenings and where breakfasts are served.

Review 27:Couldn´t stay longer :( I want to stay there forever. Or at least for a couple of weeks

Review 28:Train Spot is an amazing place to stay. We absolutely fell in love with interior and decorations (so jealous that my house is not so pretty) and it was soooo calm! I haven´t been so relaxed and calm in a really long time. Although it was cold and windy outside during our stay, our room was warm and we spent our evening in the lounge room in front of the fire place and were not disturbed by bad weather. Train Spot and its surroundings (region) is absolutely magical. Go there and stay as long as possible!

Review 29:It was a bit cold, since we were almost alone in the middle of December, and it is an old building that is really hard to warm it up. The room was warm enough, though. The price is a bit too much to be low season and the guesthouse being lost in the middle of nowhere.

Review 30:If what you are looking for is to escape from the city, this guesthouse in the middle of nowhere is perfect. The building has been refurbished with style, and the atmosphere is unique. The staff working there are really really nice and will try and make you feel comfortable.

Review 31:Wifi didn't work till morning. Reception is closed at night, couldn't get matches to light some candles. Remote location, takes some time to drive on those narrow roads in the dark time.

Review 32:Romantic place. Nice fire place (was not lighted) with sofas. Could enter kitchen and make tea/coffee.

Review 33:We were in love with this wonderful building the minute we found it online. We were not disappointed at all: the building itself is wonderful, the staff is friendly and helpful, the beds are great, the living room and kitchen offer all you need. Hiking in the Sao Mamede was gorgeous as we hoped.

Review 34:Not much.. Rooms are not so big, but it's really ok for travelling around and staying for just one or two days.

Review 35:Great buildings, decoration, atmosphere, facilities and hosts.

Review 36:We loved everything! We arrived at this lovely train station curiousabout how it would be! And it was a great place with great people! Thishosts will make you feel at home and you will certainly feel that. Thebreakfast is very good with fresh fruits and typical products. The roomsare cosy - in fact, all the hostel. You can cook in the communitarykitchen, make friends, or just read while the sun gets down. With amodern decoration that keeps alive the essence of the century house (let's not forget this was a very important station - the only onethat connected POrtugal with the rest of Europe trough Madrid- Many jewsarrived in portugal by the hand of Aristides Sousa Mendes there. But thefriendly hosts can explain you this better.)We will return! see you soon Lina and Pedro. Ana, Luis e Violeta

Review 37:Great location, very nice people, they we're really helpful and had a lot of great tips for things to see and do in the area. The hostel has a great and authentic atmosphere. It's very clean and comfortable. It's a great base from which to explore Alentejo's countryside, but also beautiful villages as Marvao and Castelo de Vide. A place to remember!

Review 38:The best place we spotted while exploring Portugal. The one you could see the real portuguese life. Calm and peaceful. The building itself make you feel as if stuck in an old romantic movie, the surroundings most beautiful and the most welcoming hosts. You can choose among a variety of activities like kayaking, cycling, hiking and even horse riding, sightseeing, barbecue - whatever comes to your mind, but the best one is staying at trainspot house reading a book you were up to for a long time.

Review 39:Great place if you fancy a little time out from the hustle and bustle. Rustic, laid back, quiet, clean and comfy. Spent two nights in a double room and the owners made us feel at home. Thanks for everything!

Review 40:The living room/lounge is just the cosiest place and one just wants to linger there. We wished we had stayed longer.

Review 54:The place make us travel into the past. It is a very charming and nostalgic place.

Review 55:nothing at all :-)

Review 56:The Location was absolutely great! I´ve never stayed at such a nice & special accomodation! An old train station!! You feel immediately back in the good old times. The interior was awesome, the living room and the kitchen, everything was so lovely styled. I had a warm welcome there and felt I should stay much longer than 1 night only. You can also sit outside the building enjoying a glass of wine or beer they offer and dream a little bit....you will feel like at an old Train Station in a Western (movie). The rooms are very cosy and the bathroom was very clean as well! The breakfast was really good. I hope the owner (thanks a lot for the nice talk with you and hope to see you soon in Berlin!!) can keep this jewel for long long time! It´s worth it! I hope to come back sometimes to enjoy the wonderful surrounding as well! Thanks a lot for this amazing place & stay! I will recommend it to all my friends!

Review 57:The location is amazing to rest, cycle, walk and enjoy the nature. The building itself is beautiful and very cosy. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We will come back and highly recommend this place.

Review 58:Nothing to mention

Review 59:The location is very interesting and close to many seightseeing points (Marvao, Menhirs.... ).The owners are very friendly and can provide information to walks in the area.

Review 60:Probably some people wouldn't like to be deprived from television, but i guess this isn't really a disavantage.

Review 61:Lovely staff. Train Spot is located in a quiet and little town that allows us to rethink the concept of isolation, relaxation and tranquility. At a few km from great historic and cultural places. Can get some nice rides with bike or walking trough nature. At 5km from historic Marvão with it's high castle, close to Romanic city 'Ammaia' and 8km from Castelo de Vide.

Review 62:I heard about Trainspot because of friends, and was very excited to see this place. I was absolutely not disappointed. The hotel is really full of poetry. The staff is more than friendly, available to give tips about the regions. I only want one thing : come back! Thanks for everything.

Review 63:Unique located in a retired rail road station. Rail around the station are not used very quiet location

Review 64:The location is excellent to rest and plan nature walks.

Review 65:Amateur service with high hotel fares. Overall it looks like a youth hostel.

Review 66:The concept is really interesting.

Review 67:Everything. Charming place. Such a cool place in an unlikely location and very good value. Could have stayed forever.

Review 68:The very good use use of an old trainstation. Very close to Marvão - castelo. You can check the stars -astronomy
