Reviews for Hotell Stenugnen
Review 1:...but having old eyes I could have used more light over the bathroom mirror and also a shelf for small stuff. The toilet roll holder made me almost break my back to get to. I would mount it on the wall across from the toilet (with a little shelf above). At least that would work in room 26.
Review 2:Breakfast, the bed, staff... Everything...
Review 3:the code from the hotel door is changed each month, we weren't informed and could get inside on the 1'st of December with the help of the other guests who were luckily staying in the hall, and the reception doesn't work after 5pm
Review 4:location, breakfast, if the departure is very early, there's some take away sandwiches in the fridge as well as the cofee, it was really nice, it's the place where you really feel like home
Review 5:Manual air-conditioning (ie. open the window when you have used up all the oxygen in your room), it's an old house, after all.
Review 6:Friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast, working Wi-Fi, perfect location.
Review 7:Bathroom was shared. This would have been less of an issue of the shower did not constantly flood.
Review 8:Location was perfect. Beautiful style and comfortable accommodations.
Review 9:Nothing!
Review 10:The whole nautical décor was simple and relaxing and the location was excellent. We thought being so close to the quay would be noisy but we slept very well. Breakfast was great and set us up for the whole day. The bonus was we timed our visit with the mediaeval festival!
Review 11:Very noisy room in annex, every time doors elsewhere opened and closed you could hear it. Shower was temperamental
Review 12:Helpful friendly staff, excellent breakfast. Well located in relation to harbour and old town.
Review 13:Our double room was so small there were no rome for chairs. We stayed four nights, and they ever came in and did maid work.
Review 14:Location is great within the old city of Visby. Staff is friendly and helpful. Basic
Review 15:There was no kettle in the room and no toiletries apart from soap, shampoo and shower gel. Some of the staff were very friendly, some less so. Not saying they were rude, but a smile or two wouldn't hurt!
Review 16:The location is excellent and the room was nice. It had a fan which was great because the room got very hot during the day.
Review 17:Possibly a small hot breakfast option.
Review 18:The staff were so accommodating and lovely! My partner and I arrived very late at night and they organised a key to be left for us. We had one or two mishaps and the hotel was more than accommodating to correct this.
Review 19:Couldn't work out how to use the lift for luggage when we arrived - note that desk is not staffed in the evening.
Review 20:Pleasant lounge. Refrigerator for guests so you can make picnic lunches. Staff very helpful. One wall of breakfast room is the old town wall! Excellent breakfast buffet including home made bread.
Review 21:The room in the annex building is not sound proof, so you might be disturbed by your neighbors' coming and going in the corridor. But in general, we slept well!
Review 22:Excellent location, friendly staffs offered us everything we needed. The breakfast has lots of choices and the dining space is always open so you can enjoy your own coffee break or even simple meal by using the micro wave oven. Comfortable room, shared toilet is also clean.
Review 23:Shared bathroom (always busy) in the Annex. Breakfast from 8 on saturday and sunday. Reception until 5pm. Breakfast buffet without pastries or cakes.
Review 24:Good location. Day lounge with coffee, tea, cookies, water always open 24/7. Friendly staff. Eco-friendly toiletries (by Face Stockholm). Comfortable bed and nice room.
Review 25:We had shared bathroom. It was fine in the evening but morning was very busy and took more than 30 min to wait for my time. Missed hot dishes during breakfast, some spoons were not fully clean.
Review 26:Hotel is located in old town, very convenient to get around. Healthy breakfast. Supportive staff.
Review 27:A bit of engine noise from the harbour in the middle of the night.
Review 28:Very comfortable and nice rooms. Polite staff. Great breakfast with 24 hours tea, coffee and cookies in the lobby area.
Review 29:The Ikea-stink! Uhhuh.. :( Our shared shower room was full of water, the floor´s drain didn`t work. No air-condition. A little bit noise at nights, the harbour and beach-boulevard is near.
Review 30:Nice atmosphere and best location.
Review 31:Very hot! Windows towards the street with some loud people passing at night. Not so well noise isolated rooms.
Review 32:Perfect location next to the harbour and shopping, friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Very comfortable beds!
Review 33:Sociable and hospitable staff. Excellent location right on the harbour. Some noise during the night due to partying by young people in July. Fantastic medieval city and buildings.
Review 34:No air-conditioned rooms and it was over 30 Celsius outside.
Review 35:Not a luxury location but completely sufficient and inside the city wall. Great location close to the ferry harbour and just about everything inside the city wall. Good breakfast!
Review 36:Very clean, peaceful, and welcoming.
Review 37:very friendly & helpful girls on desk leaving for us breakfast when we departing early so it was very kind..many thanks
Review 38:Nothing
Review 39:Outstanding service, facility and food. Very attentive to making sure we had a great stay. Absolutely!
Review 40:Historical location close to harbour and city wall
Review 41:Beautiful hotel in perfect location.
Review 42:Paid parking on the street
Review 43:Central in Visby
Review 44:Parking was a little bit of an issue. I think in summer it would be really difficult.
Review 45:Excellent staff, old fashioned seaside hotel, amazing breakfast.
Review 46:The location, old style hotel, amazing breakfast and staff.
Review 47:Nice staff Well-furnished breakfast Cosy room (Annexet) Really good quality/price ratio All-day free coffee break
Review 48:Friendly staff, great breakfast. Light attractive rooms. Great location near the water.
Review 49:informality comfortable and stylish surroundings efficiency and helpfulness with a smile
Review 50:Great rooms, conveniently located, and free cookies!
Review 51:Not applicable
Review 52:Location very good Nice breakfasts Cosy environment Staff helpful English speaking
Review 53:The staff is very helpful and motivated. We enjoyed the beautiful place and the great hospitality. Thank you very much.
Review 54:My only complaint, and this is a small one, is that the Wi-Fi did notwork in our room. However, it worked perfectly in the lobby and we feltwelcome to sit on the comfortable couches and use the Wi-Fi whenever wewanted to.
Review 55:I would highly recommend Hotel Stenugnen. The staff was helpful, kind, warm, and friendly. The breakfast was out of this world, especially ifyou like homemade bread, yogurts, delicious granolas, etc. There wascoffee and tea available 24 hours a day along with cookies and biscuits. Our room was comfortable and clean. I really like the decor of theentire hotel. Simple and beachy/nautical without being over-the-top.
Review 56:No one on duty after 6pm. Promised hot water for tea gone and not refilled. Not in the center of town, but an easy walk.
Review 57:Great location if arriving by ferry. You can easily walk there. Extremely friendly and helpful staff.
Review 58:TV was a little tiny lol but I'm not much of a TV watcher so it didn't bother me.
Review 59:Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Excellent "do not disturb" policy which I wish other hotels would replicate - you get to control the level of intrusion and housekeeping you want. Lovely buffet breakfast. So quiet and peaceful. I had a wonderful stay.
Review 60:Personal attention and attention to detail: coffee, tea & lovely biscuits at all hours. Excellent breakfasts with home baked bread. Good facilities.
Review 61:The 'option' to have the rooms cleaned was not acceptable. I paid for a hotel, not a vandrahem. Also our room had the smallest TV ever made.
Review 62:The free coffee and tea service was a nice touch, as well as the wine glasses and wine opener available.
Review 63:The only small thing - wifi connection in the annex is not too strong, but good in the main building, anyway.
Review 64:Was a perfect stay. Location is super - walking distance from the ferry, near the sea, at the same time close to the center, botanical garden. The hotel is very clean and cosy, neat, quiet (it was springtime though), we were updated to a bigger room in an annex, which seemed like a separate flat. The rooms are spacious, with a lot of storing places, in a minimalistic white-and-blue maritime style. There are 3 towels and a hairdryer in the room, additional warm blankets, soft carpets. The breakfast is wonderful - cereals, meat, 3 kinds of bread, tea, coffee, cookies, 4 types of jam, spices, yoghurt, whatever, included into room prices. Also tea, coffee, cookies are available 24 hours whenever you feel like having a snack. Staff is supercool and helpful and funny, special thanks to them! :) All in all, it's one of the best hotels in our experience.
Review 65:This is far from an hotel. This is a better B & B. Poor and very simple breakfast. OK for an B & B.
Review 66:They hotel give them self 3 stars. But this is not an hotel but no more then an B & B. A very good B & B but with hotel prices. Staff is friendly.
Review 67:Some of the doors needed some force to open (the door to the terrace for example), which was a bit confusing at the beginning. But once you get the trick, there is absolutely nothing to complain about this hotel.
Review 68:The staff of the hotel is extremely friendly and helpful * The hotel is decorated in a modern way (a lot of white), but it is still very cosy * The room we were in (number 16) was very spacious and even had a little terrace for sitting outside * The breakfast is very healthy (no baked or fried stuff and home-made bread) and delicious * This is an eco-friendly hotel: the staff does not clean the room or change your towels unless you ask for it specifically. I love that!
Review 69:We had to share a bathroom and the shower didn't drain very well, which made a bit of a mess for anyone using it.Also, make sure you get the PIN code for the main door if you're checking in after 5pm--no one will be there to let you in. The PIN code that was listed on our confirmation was incorrect, so we had to rely on the kindness of another guest to let us in!
Review 70:Spacious bedroom in a great location--right within the old city walls! The breakfast was fantastic and I loved that they had coffee and tea outat all hours so you could sit and relax in the common area.
Review 71:There was no hot water for the shower! We paid over 100 € pr. night and at that price you expect hot water in the pipes. The hotel knows about it, but does nothing! We were not impressed! The breakfast was poor.
Review 72:Was the most expensive option of the "mid-range" hotels we looked at.
Review 73:The location was perfect for ferry travelers - under a 10 min. walk - and those with a short amount of time to explore the city of Visby. Hotel was quiet and clean and the staff very helpful/friendly.
Review 74:The Hotel is very nice and close to the city center of Visby. Staff extremely nice and available for every need; Breakfast delicious and full of delights. Surely the best choice!
Review 75:Even though the street outside our window was a quiet one, we do not particulary like rooms at such levels. The room entrance from the reception/lobby/breakfastarea neither. Felt a little lack of privacy and air. Also the breakfast was not very hotellish, not at the price paid. If we should ever return, we would look for something else.
Review 76:Visby/Gotland is well worth a journey. Stayed four nights after the medieval week had ended. Very clean, quiet and friendly. Located within citywalls, but so are most Visby hotels. Short walk from airportbus/ferryterminal, not all Visby hotels are. A very nice hostel / b&b or what you might like to call it, breakfastroom in particular.
Review 77:Staff was amazing....we had to get to the airport before breakfast wasserved & had a delicious "to go" brown bag breakfastwaiting for us----& a taxi when we checked out..everything is withinwalking distance. ...Very quiet room....
Review 78:Even though there are shared toilets, they are very well maintained and my other half admitted in the end that she didn't mind at all.
Review 79:We were lucky to visit while the owners were also there (every july/august approx) and they really made our stay great. Extremely friendly, happy couple whose good humour transferred to the guests. Not something you see in Sweden so this is worth mentioning. They and their staff were very accommodating (bought soya milk for us, gave us a lift to the airport because the taxi's were all busy, gave us great tips for sightseeing/eating) Will definitely come back next year.
Review 80:When booking a room in the side-building, be aware that the shared bathroom and shower is singular. Mornings and evenings the shower was in use constantly so if you are in a hurry to catch buses/planes, shower early.
Review 81:Very good location, friendly staff. There was tea and biscuits available at all times for no extra cost.
Review 82:For that price, you would expect to have a bathroom of your own. One bathroom for each floor could work out somehow if those who had room in another floor would only use their bathroom. Sometimes we had to wait for a long time to take a shower because some people from downstairs were queuing into our bathroom.
Review 83:The staff was very friendly, everything worked well
Review 84:The hotel was stylishly- deckrated in a Cape Cod beach style and was very well-appointed. The rooms were bright and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast room had a wonderful limestone wall and a delicious breakfast.
Review 85:Blind in room didn't work properly (had to weigh it down with a pair of trainers). Would have been good if there was a small guest kitchen (but these are niggles really)
Review 86:We stayed in the hostel section of the hotel (multiple occupancy rooms with shared bathroom). Was clean, close to ferry terminal, close to city walls, had a great breakfast, free tea coffee and biscuits, nice reception/lounge area for guest use, friendly staff, great decor (understated scandi elegance with a nautical twist). Would recommend.
Review 87:Excellent location close to the ferry terminal right in the center of Visby. Nice old building. The staff are extremeley nice; we got a free upgrade to an amazing huge family room! Breakfast is delicious, tea and biscuits are available at all times. Simply the best hotel I've stayed at so far!
Review 88:The booking.com description said the room had a fridge, but it turnedout to have an entire kitchenette with a sink and oven. No cookware wasprovided so we assumed we weren't supposed to cook (and didn't).It was a bit of a magnet and a safety hazard for our toddler thoughespecially as the oven was connected.
Review 89:We had a very comfortable stay here with our 1-year-old son. The familyroom in the annex was perfect for us -- it's really 2 adjoiningrooms, so we could put our son to bed early then sit up with the lightson in the room next door. The bathroom was shared with only 2 otherrooms and we never had to wait. Our room was spacious and light withviews out to the harbour (over a carpark but still). The town centre isa very easy walk and there's a great kid-friendly park and libraryjust around the corner. The staff were very friendly and accomodating, and gave good restaurant suggestions. It was a pretty good coldbreakfast with a good selection of cereals, bread, meats and extras(including hot boiled eggs). Hot drinks and biscuits were available freethroughout the day which was a nice touch. On the last day we had toleave before breakfast but they made us a nice package of breakfastsandwiches to take with us.
Review 90:If one intend to stay more than one or two nights, very littke room for luggage, clothes as there are no closet with hangers.
Review 91:Great value for for money, very friendly staff. Good with home made bread.
Review 92:As the ferry arrive late at night (and that is the only way to get to the island) would be pleasure to have someone meet you at the reception.
Review 93:Very nice hotel and very romantic town. This is a small private hotel and the owner does everything to make you feel comfortable. When you eat on the terrace think thay the wall around you was built in the 12th century
Review 94:We enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was very nice and the breakfast buffet was outstanding. The location was perfect for exploring Visby on foot and getting to the ferry on foot as well.
Review 95:The bathrooms are somewhat outdated (green linoleum on the floors) and the rooms were clean but there was some room for improvement in the 'hidden areas'. For example, there were spider webs all around the windows behind the curtains but this can be attributed to the fact that the windows are open quite a bit.
Review 96:The location of this hotel is right in the centre of the old town, which is ideal for exploring the town. The breakfast is also very good. They bake their own bread and it is very tasty. The staff at the hotel were attentive to guests' needs right away.
Review 97:Room was on the small size - bit of a squeeze for 2 people to move around
Review 98:Small and very stylish small hotel with personal service. Rooms nicely furnished.Unlike amny hotels there was a good bedside reading light. Excellent breakfast. Coffee/tea and nice biscuits on available all day. Good location close to the ferry and in the old part of Visby
Review 99:I did think it was over priced, especially since we did not even haveour own private bathroom.I will recommend the hotel but not with out mention of the high price tag.
Review 100:The staff was absolutely amazing and the dining area beautiful andalways stocked with coffee and tea. Nice touch. Very clean rooms. Staffreally was over and beyond. Reminded me of the kind of service you getin the us not what is common in Sweden. The closeness to the ferry is a big plus for this hotel.
Review 101:The windows were not sound proof, so we do hear late night party-goers... But it did not bother us too much when we are sound asleep.
Review 102:We stayed for 3 nights (22-25July), and it had been wonderful. Theservice is excellent, and the location is superb; right in town, withthe tourist information, and the harbour just within 5 min walk. Theroom we had was on the first floor, and we liked that we could hang outat the living area outside the room when our kid sleeps. It was just allvery cozy.
Review 103:Every morning at breakfast (we stayed 4 nights) we found dirty tableware, for example plates, cutlery and especially mugs. A kind recommendation to invest in a new dishwasher.
Review 104:The rooms had room for ensuite but were shared bath. Poor recepion hours. Breakfast could be better, or rather more to choose from.
Review 105:Breakfast area stood out
Review 106:The staff was extremely helpful and gracious, the rooms were comfortableand roomy, the breakfast was delicious with choices for all tastes. Wecouldn't have asked for a better location or a better opportunity tostay and enjoy ourselves in Visby.
Review 107:The hotel was very convenient for the ferry terminal and all the amenities of Visby. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The weather had turned cold at the start of our stay and we were very glad that the central heating was still switched on! The opportunity to have a warm drink and biscuit in the evenings in the dining room was also very welcome. The breakfasts were plentiful and there was lots of choice, with some interesting home-made breads.
Review 108:Rooms a bit on the small side
Review 109:Location is ideal if you are arriving on foot from the ferry terminal, a 5-10 minute walk. nicely furnished & decorated, bed very comfortable. Staff are very friendly and helpful, we had to catch the 7am ferry and they made up a take away breakfast for us - very nice. Hotel lounge is lovely with tea/coffee and biscuits available. Breakfast buffet was good with a nice selection of breads.
Review 110:Maybe a DVD player could be nice in the room, but we spent most of our time away from the tv anyway! Thank you!!
Review 111:The staff were so friendly and helpful. It was a laid back and relaxing place, right in the heart of Visby's harborside restaurants and a block from the bicycle rental. Breakfast was really good - especially the homemade knäckbröd.
Review 112:Very nice hotel, just feel like a home. Nice room & comfortable bed. They served the best breakfast ever! And the guests can havecoffee/tea/hot choco & biscuits at the backyard anytime they like. Itopens for 24hrs. And very kind staffs as well. Great location, nearbythe ferry terminal, beach, library, park & tourist information centre.
Review 113:The shared showers had hot water but no pressure....had to dance aroundunder them to get wet.
Review 114:Nice rooms with lots of space. Free breaky in the morning was a bonus.Got lost in the hostel a few times cause its more like an undergroundcastle. Liked it though! :)
Review 115:The street noise can be a bit disturbing. I'm quite sensitive to it but managed to sleep through it. But a room on the back side is the safest card.
Review 116:Excellent hotel for its price. It's no frills, but it's in a beautiful old building and they show you can make something cosy with Ikea furniture too. It's a five minute walk from the Ferry terminal, so even if you arrive at midnight, as many ferries do, you can easily get there without a cab. For those who are sensitive to street noise, it's good to ask for a room on the back side as traffic from the port starts off around 8 am. Compares favorably to hotel Solhem, which is more expensive but less charming ( at least the modern wings, that comprise 80 % of that hotel).
Review 117:I found my hotel stay just delightful. The staff were very friendly and the buffet breakfast in the morning was great as well. The hotel is located very close to the ferry terminal so it wasn't really much of a hassle to get my bags there and back without a car. It is also near some very nice coffee shops and resturants so when I arrived on the first night, it was nice to not have to go too far to find a good place to eat. All round I had a lovely time during my stay.
Review 118:This hotel is absoluteley fabulous, i stayed here for one night and was made to be so welcome and the breakfast was of ample proportion, the staff are very welcoming and if you require Tea and Coffe during your stay these are offered free of charge in the Breakfast Room, I do not have any hesitation in a rcommendation of this hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review 119:Room was a bit small
Review 120:Day lounge with coffee and tea
Review 121:Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast!!
Review 122:We went sick and the Personal was so helpful. It was a reallz nice stay,
