Reviews for The Yeatman

Review 1:One issue with room service, but poor food was replaced quickly. The €16 per day parking charge is much higher than other car parks in area; hotel is not in town centre and has its own large underground car park, this should be free to residents.

Review 2:Friendliness of staff, facilities, room

Review 3:the only "not that good thing" is the internal swimming pool floor that is very slippery

Review 4:great infrastructure, great service, wonderful place.

Review 5:The price you pay for the stunning views of Porto is that you are based in Villa de Guia, which requires a walk over the bridge from Porto.

Review 6:View, facilities, restaurant, service, the hotel public space was like a museum.

Review 7:MERCI ! Thank you to the Yeatman hotel staff, What an incredible place to be. The view is amazing. the hotel interior is outstanding, We have been there during the low season so it really felt like the hotel was ours : ) The restaurant was breathtaking.

Review 8:All: kind employees, the way they received our dog with a special treat in the room, the comodities, the breakfast, the beautiful decoration, the comfortable bed and most of all, the amazing views!

Review 9:Nothing, everything was great

Review 10:The typical great experience you get from a 5 stars hotel but what was truly memorable is the experience you have dealing with the staff, every single member I had the chance to interact with was friendly, treated me by my name and made me feel at home. Great job guys!

Review 11:Location is great being right in the center of the port cellars. The accommodations are luxurious even having heated floor in the bathroom. Our room had a terrace with furniture to enjoy the great view. The indoor pool was relaxing with a beautiful night view of Porto across the river. Don't miss out on the Yeatman.

Review 12:Leaving

Review 13:We loved everything this hotel has to offer! It was very spacious and light in the hallways, beautiful and interesting decor! Our room was very large and the bed was very comfortable. We loved having a glass of Port watching the sun going down over Porto on the balcony. The indoor swimming pool is luxuriously wonderful and with it's panoramic views we found ourselves not wanting to leave! We enjoyed the lovely champagne breakfasts after our morning swims. We requested omelets which were delicious and served quickly. We loved the location, nestled among the wine caves! It was a lovely evening walk downhill to the riverside but the climb back up was challenging, definitely wear good flat shoes and not high heels!! We would definitely go back to Porto just to stay at this hotel! It's definitely world class and an experience you will not forget.

Review 14:Quite literally the best view from any hotel I have ever stayed. The service is impeccable and the wine is really good - over 80 bottles by the glass, and very reasonably priced (around 5 euros a glass)

Review 15:This is a lovely hotel, exquisitely furnished and impeccably maintained. We came to see wonderful Porto but we didn't want to leave the hotel it was so comfortable! We returned from our touring every day, looking forward to a tasteful aperitif in the refined bar before dinner in the Michelin star restaurant. The hotel staff and management are superb and made our stay so enjoyable. Kudos!

Review 16:1. Strange is that in the room is no facility to make tea or coffee. This does not match with the standards of a five star hotel. We complained. Promptly we got a watercooker and a coffee machine. We recommend thst the hotel reviews its policy about this 2. The hotel is "economic" in supplying mineral water in the room. Only once a day they give you a carafe of about 0,5 l 3. The food in the bar is quite mediocre. The club sandwich was the worst we ate in a five star hotel. The fresh tuna sandwich was buttered with so much mustard that you could no taste the tuna anymore. It became a mustard sandwich. This is odd for a hotel that has a michelin starred restaurant. Nothing bad about the service in the restaurant

Review 17:1. The room is big and the spacious terrace is a marvelous continuation of the room 2. The views from the room/terrace over the old town and Douro river are stunning and breathtaking 3. The frontstaff is helpful and charming 4. The breakfast is very good with freshly squeezed orange juice, great coffe and a wide range of choices of fruits. 5. Overall is the service impeccable

Review 18:More investment in look than in feel. Outdoor pool is too cold, to enjoy the view. The spa is nicely decorated, but mostly disfuctional, turkish bath too cold, pathetic music in the shower, elctrical switches underneath stone beds need to be turned on to heat them up, which takes half an hour.

Review 19:The hotel has a nice location with the great views. The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated. Interesting exhibitions in the hallways, including some antique tapestries. The staff solved the service problems reported to our liking.

Review 20:We were charged twice for an excursion we booked but this was quickly remedied upon checkout without fuss.

Review 21:Beautiful hotel immaculately kept. Staff very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Bed was super comfortable and breakfast very nice. The views from each room and the terraces are amazing. The pool and pool bar also excellent. This is a great hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it very highly.

Review 22:This hotel is in a fabulous position with amazing views from every angle. Both the indoor and outdoor infinity pools are excellent for swimming. Fantastic range of wines by both the glass and the bottle

Review 23:The bathroom in the room was quite dusty from the be niña of our star. Very sur prístino, to be quite honest for such an expensive place.

Review 24:Really comfortable bed and room in general. Beatificación place to be

Review 25:Didn't like asking 20USD for parking each day, when they have parking empty and charge 500 USD per night on standard room.

Review 26:Great location, away from the crowds. Big nice room with amazing views over the river and the bridge. You are just 5min away driving from the city centre of Porto, and right in front of the famous port wine cellars. Quiet hotel with nice staff.

Review 27:Nothing

Review 28:Everything! A fabulous hotel, in a fabulous location. Very comfortable, excellent staff and not at all stuffy (which can be a problem with 5* hotels. The tasting menu was out of this world

Review 29:Main restaurant is excellent, but pool bar service is slow and food served was poor to very poor. Very surprising that the staff did not return obviously poor food to the kitchen rather than present it to guests only to have it sent back (e.g. salad with ALL leaves brown at edges).

Review 30:Spacious rooms, fantastic view of old Porto.

Review 31:I have only a great experience here, there is simply nothing else to say but pure joy about this hotel.

Review 32:Everything you can imagine if you want luxury and comfort in a hotel and more! The location, the food, the room, the spa, the pools, the reception, it is all here!!

Review 33:Slightly disappointed with the beds & pillows - a bit too soft for us. Nonetheless, I would definately stay here again.

Review 34:The location was stunning, staff very helpful, friendly & efficient & style of hotel. Very good food too.

Review 35:Great Location and beautiful views to Porto. Excellent service and staff. Also the facilities are up to standard you could expect from the five star hotel. You could not wish more from the breakfast. Also the shop in the hotel had excellent service - special thanks to the lady who worked at the shop! Also special thanks to the staff at the reception and breakfast room staff who made our stay memorable. We will definitely choose this hotel again if we return to Oporto.

Review 36:Overall, service was efficient but not friendly Staff in Dick's Bar could be slow and had not been educated on the extensive wine list which was disappointing

Review 37:Large and comfortable room with terrace View of Porto from room

Review 38:The only thing letting the hotel down is the bar - cocktails weren't great (can see why we got a voucher for a free one!) and service was slow / a little amateur. If they improved this it would be perfect! A minor thing is that I mentioned we would have just got married when booking, and again in conversation at reception, and it would have made it extra special to have had some kind of treat in our room. Have had this in other hotels for far less important occasions!

Review 39:Wonderful location with spectacular views. We loved the attention to detail, with the wine theme subtly incorporated into everything. Staff were very friendly and the bed was the most comfortable hotel bed we have ever slept in! The spa is fantastic and treatments a very high standard. We also have a gorgeous meal in the restaurant, which definitely deserves a second star.

Review 40:Some confusion over various things mainly due to a lack of English by some staff.

Review 41:Magnificent views Lovely calm atmosphere Fabulous staff attitude and willingness to help

Review 42:I suggest that a hotel of that range will provide a complementary taxi pick up from airport.

Review 43:Expectations were fulfilled. a luxurious hotel with a touch of class. Architecture and decoration are true to local culture values. Facilities were great and well maintained.

Review 44:We tired to have dinner and were seven and were told that could not serve based on number of people arguing numerous group!! But most tables of restaurants were empty. Unbelievable for a 5 star

Review 45:Nothing bad ! Maybe breakfast menu could change everyday or offer different varieties. Also some turkey or other meats for non pork eaters ! Room service menu could have more options as well. What they have on the menu is fantastic

Review 46:Loved the staff. Each and every one of them was wonderful with a constant smile on their face. Always out to help and really value each guest. We love the views from the hotel. The facilities and rooms and hotel is a sight to see !! Probably one of two best hotels we've stayed in, in the world !

Review 47:The large bed was ready for replacement. The cocktails: more ice than taste

Review 48:The view is spectacular, the room spacious and stilish. The star-restaurant and the breakfast

Review 49:The only flaw was the bed, not the luxury bed one would expect. The food at lunch and dinner was not good and way overpriced.

Review 50:The view in mind blowing, the service, the , location, the facilities, all where excellent

Review 51:That I'd only booked two days instead of a week. I couldn't fault anything except.

Review 52:The location is amazing and the night views are breathtaking. The staff are just brilliant.

Review 53:The selection of breakfast was very good, but the cooked breakfast was cold in the self service. You could order other cooked eggs but the bacon etc was cold. But this was very minor to our weeks stay.

Review 54:The service was excellent, very clean and a magnificent view of the river.

Review 55:Staff did not know how to guide incoming guest, traveling via auto, to hotel.

Review 56:Hotel was elegant, spotlessly clean. Suite was charming, overlooking Porto. Enjoy your breakfast, with caviar.

Review 57:The only surprise was to order juice in the room for the price of 6 EUR (which is ok), however with additional charge for the room service 10 EUR (more than the juice itself). The hotel price is already very high, so the basic services should be included. This is first time that we see, while we travelled quite a lot around the world and stayed in may hotels. Otherwise everything was great!

Review 58:We loved everything about this hotel! We booked romantic package as was our wedding anniversary. And we have got a beautiful room with wonderful view and terrace! Breakfast was very good too! With caviar and fresh juice. We did not want to leave! Thank you to all very friendly staff!

Review 59:Hotel was phenomenal. Beautiful pools, inside & out. Spa was great. Location excellent. Room and bathroom very large. Very refined. 5 star property.

Review 60:Fabulous room with a super comfortable bed and a marble bathroom. Lovely deck with a stunning view overlooking Porto. Beautiful facilities and pools. Fantastic restaurant.

Review 61:This hotel is in the best position for views of Porto. The cleanliness and decor are second to none. Breakfast has an excellent selection and can be eaten on the terrace. Would definitely recommend.

Review 62:The only tiny criticism was that the hot food in the buffet breakfast could have been hotter.

Review 63:Our entire stay was fantastic. The rooms was incredible (second floor, you could see the river from the balcony) and the staff were without exception smiley, professional and extremely helpful.

Review 64:Tea bags used for English breakfast tea when tea leaves available for Green tea and other teas. Poor quality taste too from these tea bags. Surprised to find their use in such a top hotel. Small compliant but important for breakfast tea drinking guests.

Review 65:Whole experience including Spa treatments and dining in Michelin starred restaurant -tasting menu a gastronomic feast.

Review 66:Would have liked tea/coffee facility in room.

Review 67:The decor throughout the hotel was so clean, bright and warm. Would look good even if the sun was not shining. Views over the city's do the river.

Review 68:Slow service in bar.. Happened last time. Server was caught up in a conversation with a guest. Had to go in to request a drink. Drinks are a bit pricey

Review 69:view. Breakfast.

Review 70:It is a heck of a pull to walk back up to the hotel after a day or evening in Porto. Perhaps a courtesy bus?

Review 71:Every thing. Would stay there every time we pass through Porto if it was a bit less expensive.

Review 72:We ate in the restaurant one evening and whilst the meal was excellent the whole feel was a bit too formal for our liking. That is simply a matter of taste, it should not detract from the quality of the food and service that we had.

Review 73:The hotel was immaculately clean and the room was excellent. Especially the bedding which was perfect. The staff were unbelievably pleasant, attentive and helpful.

Review 74:The only problem is the location in Gaja area, with car is more convience.

Review 75:The most beautiful river view in porto, and also breakfast is delecious and with nice view.

Review 76:just one point. my wife left a new pair of shoes and clothes in the hotel. nobody contacted us to tell us. Of course when we contacted you, the hotel had kept the items safe. However it would have been nice if the hotel had alerted us. It certainly will not stop us visiting again. Regards. M.Beresford

Review 77:Iron and the ironing board were not immediately available on the date of arrival. At dinner, service at the restaruant is a bit slow at the start. For the first hour (no kidding here) you will be having a series of small molecular-cuisine-nonsense compliments before excellent food arrives. Worth waiting for unless you come very late and/or are very hungry (as we were).

Review 78:Great views of Porto, excellent (and relatively inexpensive SPA), spaciousness and tasteful modern classic decoration of the facilities, extremely friendly and helpful staff. Quality of room service cuising is exceptional.

Review 79:Breakfast is like the best Sunday buffet at an expensive hotel...hey, this is an expensive hotel, but you get the breakfast every day not just a special Sunday. We had one of the best dinners we have ever experienced anywhere. This is a world class hotel. The view is superb.

Review 80:It's a bit pricey but all worth. Just keep in mind that parking is paid, not included in the room.

Review 81:One of the best hotels I ever been in my life. Extremely comfortable rooms, all with gorgeous view from Porto. Extremely friendly staff and a breakfast do die for.

Review 82:Being expected to pay to park in their own car park after paying the price of the suite

Review 83:Staff are attentive not over the top Views from the bedroom and public areas Access to the water front restaurants

Review 84:Only complaint was that I had emailed for some suggestions for smaller quintas to visit. They send me a page of excursions that we can do, but when I asked specifically for some family run quintas' names, I never get a reply from them. If it is not because of this, Yeatman would have been a perfect 10.

Review 85:The service, the location, the beauty of the hotel and the food in the restaurant! A wonderful place to stay.

Review 86:The staff were very helpful, and would even go that extra step. If you wanted directions they would show you the best exit from the hotel and then tell you clearly the rest of the directions. Even offered to lend me an umbrella for the day as it was raining slightly

Review 87:The only thing I see missing is a middle door between the room door and the sleeping area. It is noisy when people walk by as they tend to forget that there might be those sleeping behind the doors.

Review 88:The hotel is splendid and it's our chosen spot for the few occasions on which we visit Porto. The breakfast is fab and the SPA is the main reason for which I go... cause my wife drags me there :-)

Review 89:Nothing really bad but the young receptionist was a little optimistic about the walk time to the centre. Oldies with sore feet may think about a taxi. cheap and easy.

Review 90:The hotel is really beautiful with fantastic views over Porto. Our room felt extremely decadent with a very comfortable bed and a massive bathroom. The power shower almost knocked me over. fantastic! The indoor pool and spa were lovely. Even if you have to remortgage your house to do it try and eat in the restaurant. It is an amazing experience. You don't need more than the four course taster - honestly.

Review 91:I did not like the set up of the breakfast room. The staff seemed to be constantly coming and going by our table with dishes. The hot breakfast food was also not up to the standard that we had expected.

Review 92:Overall we found our stay at the Yeatman to be wonderful. From the very courteous and helpful staff upon check-in, to our beautiful room with fabulous views; everything was most enjoyable.

Review 93:Be aware that the walk from the riverfront back to the hotel is a little steep

Review 94:The staff were fantastic, especially the chief sommelier who gave us a fantastic tour of the hotel wine cellar. The pool has panoramic Porto views and is the perfect way to wake up before the wonderful breakfast. Quiet and restful hotel.

Review 95:Nothing bad to report

Review 96:Staff excellent, couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast 1st class, and Dicks bar was a good place to sit in the evening and enjoy the view over the river to Porto. Having a swim looking out over the port lodges and the city was different and a treat.

Review 97:The only complaint is that it would have been nice to be able to make a coffee in the room... Otherwise it was perfect!

Review 98:Great location to explore Porto and the port houses, the staff were very welcoming, especially with our young boy and the indoor pool is amazing. Expensive, but worth paying for...!

Review 99:I can´t really say I didn´t like, it´s a suggestion I would like to make. As the Hotel is situated far from any transport, one can only reach it with a taxi, of course if you are young and fit, that´s something else, but as this hotel probably 80%must be senior citizens,I would suggest a shuttle or courtesy bus with time tables to the city and back.tHAT´S ALL

Review 100:I loved all the bathroom items from a very good brand and for NEW YEAR the ladies had a nice little bag with 3 beauty items, and gents a small Port wine bottle and a nice box of very good chocolates. New Years Eve dinner and party was awsome. the food high quality and wines too. Our table was by the window and we could see the fireworks across the river. we loved it. The Hotel also gave us a voucher for free tea and scones at the bar. Well we think it was a fantastic experince.

Review 101:The friendly and very helpful staff. The design of the hotel with amazing views from the rooms and restaurants. The superb restaurants with excellent food and service. The location was ideal for visiting the Port Houses. We could not fault the hotel or the staff. Fantastic stay. We will be returning.

Review 102:Liked everything, better than we even expected in beauty, comfort and convenience. I think that the hotel could market the convenience even better. It was an easy walk to everything (sellars, nice restaurants, Porto, buses, etc!). We will be back and will highly recommend to friends.

Review 103:welcoming staff; elegant hotel could appear to be pretenious as first but totally opposite, very welcoming with a great location, right near the great sellars with an easy walk across the bridge to Porto

Review 104:The Yeatman exceeded our expectations in every way. The location and views are stunning. Every member of the staff was kind, professional, and extremely helpful. The facilities (pool, bar, restaurant, library, spa, etc.) are magnificent. The whole experience was a delight.

Review 105:Having to pay for the spa was a downer. We wish that all guests of the hotel could have access to the spa. The room temperature of the spa was a bit cold.

Review 106:Great hotel! We enjoyed our stay there!

Review 107:The personnel are friendly but seem a bit hospitality-school. There is a bit of a corporate quality. But we were very happy there.

Review 108:The superb room and terrace view were memorable, and an eight course dinner with wine matches exceeded high expectations.

Review 109:Wifi occasionally very slow Drinks expensive

Review 110:Comfiest hotel bed we have stayed in Excellent facilities Shower and bath fantastic Two gorgeous swimming pools Close to city centre All rooms have incredible views Service great Breakfast has a good range and is delicious

Review 111:No Coffee making facility in the rooms and exorbitant room service charge for a cup of coffee!

Review 112:The rooms had gorgeous views! Very well appointed rooms with a lovely sit out where u can see all the bridges and the waterfront. Cobblestoned path went all the way down to the river. Fabulous breakfast! Beautiful pool with amazing views of the city. Close to the Port wineries and tasting rooms.......Would definitely come back!

Review 113:Just one niggle - they give out more amenities in the more expensiverooms - you get 3 cotton buds extra in a superior room, and cotton padsand buds in a suite - for the few cents these cost is it reallynecessary to skimp in a £300/ night room?

Review 114:What's not to like? Everything is top class, accommodation, facilities, food, staff and wine - expensive but you get what you payfor.

Review 115:the signage on the roads leading up to the hotel were quite misleading...not easy to get to hotel

Review 116:the hotel was superb, beautiful views of Porto, excellent facilities, great breakfast, easy walk to the waterfront and the two major port producers and wine tastings...the bistro next to the pool was a lovely and relaxed place to have dinner after a full day of sightseeing

Review 117:Maybe thermostatic showers in a hotel of this quality.

Review 118:Location, room, views, facilities, food. Staff exceptional, particularly the front of house reception.

Review 119:nothing!

Review 120:the hotel was comfortable, beautiful and quiet. great combination of beautiful buildings and modern amenities. restaurants and bars great. infinity pool wonderful. fantastic views from balcony at breakfast, the pool area and our room balcony--across the river to the old town of Porto.

Review 121:the pool bar being closed due to bad weather even though was 21 degrees and the only sunny day during our stay. too long await for the scrambled eggs to be refiled

Review 122:very luxurious excellent service

Review 123:this is a very new 5 stars hotel in Gaia which have a great view over the Douro River and the old town.with only around 85 rooms, each rooms have view if the river. the restaurant which was one Michellin star. goid price of wine with nany selection to choose by bottles or by glass.in the European standard, this hotel give you the quality of it.

Review 124:Finding the hotel by car .

Review 125:The view across the swimming pool over Porto. The glorious bed linen. The superb breakfast eaten on a terrace with a lovely view.

Review 126:We had a misunderstanding with our romantic package and spa facilities , but the duty director was very kind to offer us transfer to the train station with breakfast bags .

Review 127:The hotel is in an excellent location overlooking the Old Porto , wonderful view , easy access to Porto by the bridge , excelent staff . Our driver Miguel was more than helpful and kind . Definetely the only choice to stay in lovely Porto

Review 128:Not only was the hotel amazing, by the service is off the charts. I have never staying at a hotel with such exceptional service. Truly an outstanding experience! Thanks to Katerina and all other staff members who made our stay so memorable.

Review 129:Prices rather high at Spa and at bar.We booked a suite at an overrated price yet found that breakfast was not included even at this price.Service at breakfast rather bad, always had to ask for coffee, placed order and had to ask repeatedly on order placed after waiting for 30 min. This is no dought a 5 star + hotel however housekeeping staff in evenings did not close curtains, tidy up bed when opening bed, did not place bed slippers at bedside. The shower had a very unpleasant drain smell. We were escorted to suite upon arrival however were not shown suite facilities. We travel extensively and frequent 5 star top hotels and the above are highly expected from 5 star hotels especially The Yeatsman which stands alongside most other with its class.

Review 130:Excellent view overlooking Porto and Douro River, classy 5 star facilities, spacious rooms, excellent service from staff.

Review 131:Would like some solar heating on the pool and possibly more variety in casual eating menus.

Review 132:Excellent staff from the drive way through to room staff, nothing was too much trouble. Comfortable, luxurious rooms with stunning views over Porto. Excellent food and wine service.
