Reviews for Grand Pacific Hotel & Apartments

Review 1:No reception on the TV but hey I wasn't there to watch much.

Review 2:It's a beautiful old hotel located opposite the pier where the start the pier to pub swim just over 1km from the town centre. We stayed in the the king spa room and it was wonderful. The building is a little tired but acceptable. Dinner was fine at the downstairs restaurant. Service all round was first rate.

Review 3:Our Queen Pacific room was a filled in verandah and the floor boards cracked loudly every time you moved. No room for suitcases and the bathroom was very tiny. Bed was okay but the room was a strange shape and I've only ever had smaller in Paris! We paid $500.00 for 2 nights and were so disappointed!! We didn't get asked how our stay was. No aircon but a fan. We had cool weather so not too much of a problem but during warm weather you'd bake. View was magic but you couldn't see it unless you were standing up! You could use the big wide verandahs but there were bird droppings under the railings and the furniture was worn. The stairs were higgledy-piggledy and there is no lift.

Review 4:The location and the staff.

Review 5:It was very noisy during the night as people coming and going 'bumped' their luggage up and down steps outside our apartment. Some in-room information on local facilities, attractions and restaurants would have been helpful.

Review 6:The apartment had a lovely view over Lorne, and was quite spacious.

Review 7:Spacious room well laid out . Quiet. Dinner excellent. Vegetarian friendly. I prefer vegan meals and this was almost perfect. Vegan brekky- granola!! Thanks Chef! Loved the geothermal spa. So disappointed we couldn't get a second night at your hotel!!

Review 8:It was a lovely apartment but in need of a good refurbishment. Old sofas, ripped curtains on the front glass door, very old kettle, no full length mirror, balcony railing rusted. Cost $280 (on special, normal price $325 per night) couldn't check in until 3pm & check out at 10am. The price we paid was too much for what was offered.

Review 9:Love the location & view.

Review 10:The staff were all amazing and friendly. We stayed in a 1 bed apartment. Everything was ok apart from a smell like a wet dog smell that dominated the apartment.

Review 11:All areas of the hotel need major refurbishment. Paint was chipped, furniture was old and bathroom needed updating.

Review 12:Excellent location for exploring the great ocean road.

Review 13:Extremely small, confined room with no room for chairs. Fans were dusty so couldn't use and dust/dirt on skirting boards, so needs a thorough clean.

Review 14:Location was quite good although our room didnt have any view.

Review 15:Room was a bit tight but you get what you pay for and we opted for a basic double which was cheap! The bathroom was an equal size to the bedroom so we utilised this for storing cases.

Review 16:Loved the historic building. Fabulous balcony to sit for happy hour and look out over the bay to Lorne.

Review 17:Breakfast was a little expensive for us, would be good to have a discount for guests.

Review 18:Awesome view from the communal balcony, very friendly relaxed staff.

Review 19:The location is very close to the pier but not so close to the center of Lorne, which is still at reasonable walking distance (15 min).

Review 20:The apartment was quite nice and well furnished. Staff was very friendly and helpful

Review 21:Disappointing not to receive what you pay for. One bedroom units do not have King beds,a balcony (or D.W) as stated.and therefore the cost is not warranted.

Review 22:Managed to sweep the courtyard and relax with the paper and champagne. Kitchen pleasant to use.

Review 23:The buffet breakfast was expensive, voluminous but lacked variety. The coffee was only so so.

Review 24:"Grand" looking old style hotel overlooking the sea. Parking was very good.

Review 25:My room initially allocated was extremely disappointing like a dark room under the stairs. Room 15, I needed to pay $130 more to upgrade to a room along the hall more with view, light and air. Relief !! Rm 18. Should close room15.

Review 26:I loved the old hotel and the views of the sea. Old verander around the outside both levels was lovely to sit out on. The relaxed feel The staff v friendly and helpful. The food was very good.

Review 27:Having a room directly above the dining room is noisy- especially early in the morning when the staff seem to drag every chair along the floor!

Review 28:Great location, lovely food.

Review 29:amazing old style hotel with so much character, enjoyed sitting outside overlooking the bay was just beautiful, lovely rooms with the most comfortable bed,we had dinner in the restaurant there sweets were amazing, the staff are friendly and happy, loved this hotel

Review 30:The room I booked through booking.com was nothing more than a bed in a room, so I upgraded at nearly double the cost. Still, internet service was erratic, heat was antiquated and poor, there was no lift to the 3rd floor, pillows were substandard and the hotel was not within walking distance to town.

Review 31:Accommodating staff

Review 32:Parking for guests of the hotel is out front of the hotel, not particularly private (especially for worrying motorcyclists!). The cost of what is essentially pub food was way overpriced, some of the most expensive dishes purchased on my holiday. Distance to town centre makes eating within the only option if you fancy a drink or two.

Review 33:This hotel is beautifully historic, and has an absolutely perfect outlook over the ocean, especially when viewed from the hotel balcony. Staff were very friendly, and accommodating, serving our dinner to us on the upstairs balcony. The low cost room rate and thorough cleanliness was a definite plus!

Review 34:Extremely small room. We barely fit with two pieces of luggage. There was only a tiny window looking at the back. The bed was short even for me that I'm 1,77m tall. WiFi signal did not reach my room and you had to pay. Room description says that it has balcony and I confirmed with them that this is not correct since NO room has balcony. When checking out I complained about my stay and they told me that better rooms are not offered in booking.com but only small double rooms.

Review 35:Nice views from the front of the hotel. Location.

Review 36:1 I booked this apartment on the basis of a sea view - from the balcony most of the view was obscured by trees and the hotel in front. That is NOT a sea view 2 I also booked this hotel for free wifi - incredibly slow and would not load pictures in e mails 3 I opted for the $10 premium internet access - useless - as slow as the wifi 4 Finally c 6am a circulation (?) pump started up which woke me up and it carried on droning until we left

Review 37:The 3 bed apartment was excellent - roomy clean and tidy

Review 38:small rooms, horrible bed, showers were cold and small tv. Could hear everyone in the building as it was like a giant house. Didn't get an ocean view which was disappointing.

Review 39:Location was stunning, walk to cafes along the beach. Staff were very friendly food was great.

Review 40:Bedroom far too small AND no natural light or fresh air. In fact, the only window was overlooked by a passage which was brightly lit at night, and the blind was inadequate at blocking this out.

Review 41:Marvellous location. Bedroom & bathroom spotless

Review 42:The Pacific double room was TINY. We have stayed in bigger rooms in Tokyo! Window looked out into a common corridor and room wasn't noise proof, we heard thumps and creaks from neighbours all night. A very outdated room and would've expected something a little better for the price.

Review 43:Nice looking hotel from the outside, right by the coastline and near the pier. A pleasant 20min walk into town. Enjoyed a cup of tea on the shared balcony with great views.

Review 44:Our 2 bedroom apartment was in need of a good clean. The kitchen sink looked liked it hadn't been cleaned for weeks and the outside area was really bad. Couldn't use it until we cleaned up ourselves.

Review 45:No WiFi signal in apartment at all. Limited supplies in kitchen (e.g. no garbage bags, no bowls). There's no lift and hence we have to walk a few times from parking to the apartment to move the luggage.

Review 46:Great sea view. Spacious rooms. The apartment is on a single level, which is safe to young kids. Fast check in and check out.

Review 47:Our credit card was billed as soon as we had booked. But tried to make us pay again when checking out. So not happy. Also, room had no bench spaces to place anything, no suitcase racks, and no bench space in bathroom to place toiletries. Made life a little difficult!

Review 48:The view from our room was amazing.

Review 49:Not any shops or restaurants nearby so you are looked into the hotel facilities only - whilst the building looks nice on the outside - it is tired and worn out inside - no elevator - had to walk up to 3rd level - no private balconies - they are all 'share'. It was quiet and boring - no-one around - no-one in the restaurant - ghost city!

Review 50:Great location next to beach

Review 51:A door was banging all night and kept us awake. The bathroom was very small. Lugging our furniture up 4 lots of stairs.

Review 52:Receptionist was very friendly and cooperative. Dining room staff also were too. Food was excellent and served quickly.

Review 53:Bed was not so comfortable. New beds should be higher off the ground to take advantage of the ocean view. It would be great to see that from the bed. No place to set the luggage.

Review 54:Historic building with great location. Across from the pier. Short beach walk to town. Friendly staff. Lovely porch with great view.

Review 55:It is an old hotel without elevators. Heavy bags need to be carried to upper storeys via the staircase.

Review 56:Charming old hotel in beautiful location. Excellent service and food.

Review 57:First night the room was very small windows looked out into a stairway no natural light and we were woken up before 9am by a circular saw and men working outside our room .... Not ideal when you go away for a rest....

Review 58:The Place needs a lot of work it's very run down.... Painting the outside would be a start....

Review 59:Room was very small and very noisey. We had to switch bar fridge off to sleep. But great value for price we paid

Review 60:The heritage of the building was magnificent. The location was excellent. The room was quite small but good for value. Staff were very friendly. Loved sitting on balcony and looking at sea view.

Review 61:Floor was very creeky, hot water was problem and it was cold. We had inside room with no windows to the outside and there were trades working right outside our room early in the morning. Was very noisy and not a pleasant stay.

Review 62:Location was good.

Review 63:1.very poor wifi connection, just cannot be connected 2.no lift, but there are 2 floors on total

Review 64:1.good location on the great ocean road 2.free parking area 3.good sea view

Review 65:small apartment and no heating in winter. There is the storage room is opposite to the door of the apartment and the parking lot outside of apartment and it more like we stay at the basement.

Review 66:The photos should be more specific when looking at rooms, i was expecting alot more because the photos made it look like my room was much more spacious and comfortable.

Review 67:Location was amazing and the staff were very friendly!

Review 68:Since we got a one-bedroom apartment, we stayed in a modern wing and didn't experience the history of the hotel. The dishes and glasses in our kitchenette were not washed properly.

Review 69:Fantastic staff who will go out of their way for you. Historic, beautiful building.

Review 70:The rooms need to be modernised. The bed was incredibly hard and the bathroom was dated. Made you feel like it was all quite old, which is not a nice feeling for a bed and bathroom.

Review 71:The location was fantastic and the feel of the hotel was very grand and lovely

Review 72:We didn't like that the bedrooms were downstairs with no viewing area. As it was winter months the thin doonas did not keep us warm and when we asked for blankets we were told there are non. Eventually (courtesy of James) we received some thick blankets for all and all was good.

Review 73:The view from the window was beautiful, the apartment was spacious and the facilities were reasonable good. The place was walking distance to the centre of Lorne which was great.

Review 74:Awfull room. Open fire in common area was not lit. A Metho flame heater instead. When it went out an hour before closing l told a staff member, who rudely said that's all for tonight.

Review 75:Nice old building, poor refurbishment of the we were in.

Review 76:The bathroom was a bit run down with the door deteriorating due to damp as it was not a solid wood door as you would expect in an old hotel.

Review 77:Top floor room with balcony and view

Review 78:The history of the hotel and in a splendid position overlooking the bay. Large bedroom, very comfortable bed and a lovely spacious veranda wrapped around the hotel to sit and relax. Very spacious bathroom with a very powerful shower. The best we have had over 45 years of travelling! The staff were polite and cheerful. The food was excellent and tasteful. Wish this hotel was in England delightful!

Review 79:the fridge in our room had no rails in the door so you could not put drinks in the door - not good if you were staying for a long time. kitchen utensils/eating utensils lacking

Review 80:the view was to die for - amazing and close to the beach. Hotel great for food and drinks - staff lovely - seriously could not have asked for friendlier or more efficient staff.

Review 81:The single staff member on duty when we arrived was totally unhelpful and our interaction lasted less than a minute. He didn't tell us about wireless and when we asked for the best way to access the next floor up, failed to tell us about the door on the side of the building that gave us direct access - something we discovered after the fact. This was the most expensive location we stayed at with the fewest amenities along our tour of the Great Ocean Road. Not sure it was worth the money just for the view and ambiance.

Review 82:The location is great at a corner of the road with wonderful vistas of the bay in a building with great porches and big windows (but no screens!).

Review 83:Overall 'tired' look and feel of the whole place. Initial reception greeting offhand. We didn't realise that it was a 'Pontins' type of complex and it was a warren of apartments. Was one of 7 hotels/apartments we stayed and it was the only one to disappoint.

Review 84:Great location and view

Review 85:The apartment we stayed in was shabby and not clean, dirty blinds, carpets not vacuumed properly, broken furniture, TV didn't work, inadequate bathroom facilities. Second bedroom wardrobe filled with owners belongings making it difficult to hang our clothes. Terrible smell in apartment we moved to. No fans in laundry or bathroom.

Review 86:The location of the hotel and the meals. The undercover parking.

Review 87:My only regret that whenever I have stayed at the Grand Pacific Hotel we were on a mission and were pressed for time. I would love to come back and stay a few nights!

Review 88:The hotel is full of character, the balconies, verandah, the look of the Hotel breathes history. The location is fantastic as are the views of Lorne bay. The food was delicious and the team was great, friendly, attentive and helpful.

Review 89:There was a noise like a machine that would go of during the night that kept waking me up! The bed had clean sheets however the doona was not in a cover just had a sheet over the top and it was not clean! Bathroom had signs of others with hair bits present. Very disappointed really first night away with my husband in 10 years.

Review 90:The staff were very welcoming.

Review 91:The staff were very friendly, the meal in the restaurant was excellent, the views are the best, our whole stay was wonderful, can't wait to come back again

Review 92:the staff was helpful, they went out there way to help. the restaurant staff was professional . it was a pleasure to stay at the hotel. room was great.

Review 93:Had a room and apartment both were not cleaned properly, empty beer bottle in room, dirty glass in apartment. Floors sticky in apartment and not adequate crockery. Had to keep balcony door closed all the time as gap in balcony railing would let 2 year old fit through. Single room (29) was tiny had been a corner of the verandah filled in. Photo totally misrepresents room. The sheets on the bed did not fold back over the doona far enough so the doona kept touching you on the face...not hygienic. Bathroom so tiny in room 29.

Review 94:The area was quiet and staff friendly and helpful and beds comfortable, steak sandwich was great.

Review 95:our room was too small, but next time we would book a waterview room which are much larger, and look very comfortable

Review 96:the bar,the dining room, the area with the fireplace, the upstairs veranda. and a fantastic view. also staff were great.all in all a lovely old vintage hotel in a really nice town. I would recommend it

Review 97:At first, our bed and room were not ready. Then we were immediately upgraded . Then there was toilet paper missing, so they sent us up a bottle of champagne! Definitely go for the bigger room with ocean front view. It may be a bit more pricey but the view, the room, and the cockatoos hanging on the big front deck are fabulous! Really top place to stop at on the Great Ocean Road trip.

Review 98:Foyer, stairs and hallway smelled a bit stale.

Review 99:Spacious room, big bay windows, high ceilings, ocean views, balconies. Dining area spacious and comfortable. Variety in buffet breakfast was good.

Review 100:As with many older buildings, there is no elevator. Pack on the light side to avoid multiple trips up and down the stairs.

Review 101:This hotel has spectacular views! The staff was extremely friendly and more than helpful with suggestions of things to do in the area. The restaurant's menu was diverse and the food was delicious. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

Review 102:Poor customer service from older staff Unable to watch crows versus Hawks on a Friday night in the lounge area because we were told preference was for dinner guests. Our TV in the room was about 12inches square. The room was very tiny and only just fitted a double bed. Felt like a shoe box. Went to another hotel and sat comfortably and watched the footy.

Review 103:cheerfulness of younger staff

Review 104:Only stair access, but having said that we were aware of this at the time of booking.

Review 105:The apartments were very generous in size. The staff were very helpful and friendly in the hotel reception and in the restaurant. The food was also good.

Review 106:The inside tables at the restaurant only having a vase of flowers between you and the diners on the other side of the old windows. Didn't need to know their marriage problems

Review 107:We were upgraded to a sea view room with no problem. The staff were so friendly and nothing was a problem. Amazing place and will be gong back

Review 108:All the stairs to climb with luggage !!!!!! Parking a little challenging went function is on at hotel.

Review 109:I liked the old world charm yet the modern facilities. Stayed in the old original hotel front king spa room.... Lovely. Staff courteous, welcoming and helpful.

Review 110:Pillows flat as a pancake. I suggest you bring you own.

Review 111:Nice room. New furniture. Clean modern bathroom

Review 112:Friendly helpful staff and added extras for return visit . Food excellent as usual .

Review 113:Tiniest of rooms with no window and very weak, free Wifi access- could hardly access it!

Review 114:Spotless room and very friendly staff!

Review 115:the fact my room had no window

Review 116:The old style hotel but needs some Serious renovations it's a health and safety nightmare

Review 117:Bit tired on the inside and could have been a bit cleaner

Review 118:Great acoustic guitar singer on the Saturday night we stayed. Very friendly staff.

Review 119:Hotel a bit tired needs a re-fit

Review 120:Room and bathroom cleanliness Views from balcony

Review 121:No room service. No air con. Sudden change of water temperature in shower

Review 122:The location

Review 123:I was in the old building however the room was pretty well renewed

Review 124:The old world charm and very friendly helpful staff . This was a return visit and we were given " welcome back " extras ..

Review 125:nice view, nice balcony, old fashion building
