Reviews for Varanda Do Alentejo
Review 1:Return trip to Marvao and Varanda do Alentejo. Great location, comfortable & clean room, good meals. Fernando has expanded the restaurant, and it has lovely views. Visit the museum, redone in 2015.
Review 2:Poor wi-fi (which do not matter a lot in such lovely place.)
Review 3:Marvao is great location and Varanda uses it a lot. Nice place, nice people, picturesque view from the room, terrace. The Varanda is connected with nice reastaurant nearby.
Review 4:Nothing really. Couldn't get the wifi working anywhere in Marvao, but I guess that's just the time of year - and we didn't care.
Review 5:I stayed with my family (2 adults, 2 chilrdren) for 4 nights over Christmas. The staff, rooms and breakfast (we only managed to get through about a quarter of the traditional Christmas pastries that were laid out each morning) were all wonderful. And Marvao is just the best!
Review 6:Great location, beautiful views. Very friendly staff. Restaurant good for an evening meal. Excellent breakfast included. Family room very spacious and comfortable for ourselves and 2 young children. Excellent value for money. Would recommend.
Review 7:My husband's wifi connection on his android phone was fine but my iPad had intermittent problems. Jorge was kind enough and tried hard to solve the problem to no avail. Bathroom had no fan or window.
Review 8:Jorge, the grand son of the man who opened the restaurant/hotel 26 years ago, was very helpful and welcoming. His English was pretty good too. The room was spotless and cozy. We didn't even have a view room. Great pillows, mattresses, air-con worked like a dream. The food at the restaurant was excellent. Both restaurant and hotel get high marks from us.
Review 9:Wonderful view and location. Nice restaurant.
Review 10:Nothing at all
Review 11:Bed Bathroom Pleasant temperature in bedroom and bathroom Great Staff Great restaurant close
Review 12:Place, view, hotel, personnel, food, coffee
Review 13:Francisco, the owner, went out of his way to make me comfortable during my short stay. The room was great, with a beautiful view, especially at such an economical price. The restaurant is also very, very good. I loved my stay here!
Review 14:Friendly staff. Excellent location. Very good breakfast. We just loved this place. Marvao is a lovely town with amazing views. You can spent hours sitting on the terrace and enjoying the view of the mountains, fields and villages below.
Review 15:The beds in all the places I stayed in Portugal were quite hard. what can I say! Ive got a waterbed at home! Wifi bit slow in room
Review 16:What did I not like! this place is great if you like castles, climbing about and prehistory. Your going to have to drive or be very fit (just drive trust me). We stayed three nights. Spent one day in the castle one day driving a round looking at prehistory sites, (there is a great standing stone to be found among other things) and one day in Castelo de vide. The wifi was good sat with a coffee in the mornings in the restaurant.
Review 17:Driving into Marvao is not for the fainthearted - very narrow streets and unco-operative pedestrians| Room didn´t have a fridge as described.
Review 18:Great location inside walls with parking. Fantastic view from bedroom ( No 2 ). Adjacent restaurant linked to hotel was excellent - good food and reasonable prices. Marvao was a highlight of the trip.
Review 19:it was said there is a fridge in the room but there wasn't.
Review 20:Everything! especially the view from the room! the restaurant of the hotel is excellent - do try mango mousse.
Review 21:Nothing. Parking was nearby on the street, free. You must go.
Review 22:This is a heritage building with just a few rooms next to a plaza wherewe parked, and across from the restaurant in which we had a very nicemeal. Marvao is an amazing castle town on the border with Spain, severalthousand feet up and from which you can see the curve of the earth, deepinto Spain and far into the mountains in Portugal. The Castle is veryspecial and has artesan items for sale. This town was one of mywife's favorite parts of a 5 week trip in Portugal and Spain.
Review 23:They offer free wifi. We saw the wifi networks but we got 'unable to connect' message when we put in the password.
Review 24:I've booked two rooms, double bed room designed for maximum 2 adults because we were three. The room itself was actually somewhat smaller than I was expecting for the money but our room was very comfortable and had a nice big bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was served at the restaurant just down the street and would have cost 5 euros per person. Marvão is a lovely small town located on the top of a tall hill. We enjoyed a breathtaking view! I'd recommend staying here overnight to enjoy the wonderful sunset rather than coming on a day trip!
Review 25:There's a renovation going on next building, so it's rathernoisy between 8 A.M. and 4 P.M.; the room is quite stylish, but theheavy and big furniture takes a lot of space, so you can't move muchthere; There's an invasion of earwigs in the town, so if youaren't a big fan of bugs...
Review 26:The stuff was very friendly and helpful The room and the bathroom wereclean and comfortable. There's also a nice view on the whole region(incl. Spain) through the tiny window in the room Good wi-fi connection
Review 27:Maybe only because it was not very busy when I was there but thestaff were very noisy, even at 10.30 in the evening, and the noisereally carried
Review 28:Jorge was very helpful and welcoming at check in and spoke excellentEnglish. Sadly I didn't see him again after that, and the otherstaff were very nice bit didn't speak English so there was alanguage barrier. I stayed in their other premises which have stunningviews from the terrace and is right beside the castle. Marvao is astunning location and was a highlight of my 3 weeks in Portugal! Thebreakfast was wonderful as well, the best I had all trip
Review 29:The only thing wich can be a dislike item is the fact that there are only two or three restaurants and no supermarket, you better take some things with you.
Review 30:We love Marvão and the best way to visit it is staying there and enjoying the sunrise, sunset and all Marvão as to offer in the different hours of the day! The satff was amazing, specially Jorge, our host. The view is awesome! Perfect to relax and get lost by the view.
Review 31:It was a little tough to navigate up and down the tiny, cobblestoned streets with small children in tow, but that's part of what makes the location so authentic. Best to experience Marvao on a sunny, clear day if at all possible.
Review 32:The location in the medieval town was fantastic, the people were very friendly, and the food tasty.
Review 33:Wifi is only available in the lobby. If I come again, I would park thecar just outside the castle. The street to the hotel is a little bithard to navigated for my driving skill.
Review 34:Fernando was very welcoming and helpful during our stay. Hisrecommendation of the restaurant o Castelo is also very good. We had 2adjoining rooms for our family of 4, and we enjoyed the extra room thatwe can move around.
Review 35:Only the noise but that is not responsability of the hotel but of theother guests.
Review 36:We liked very much the localization of the hotel. The room was ok, cleanand confortable. The breakfast was ok for the price of the hotel. Theowner was very friendly.
Review 37:The excellent personal service by Ferdinando, the proprietor; the superb location and view from our bedroom, the whole atmosphere of the dining terrace and rooms, which matches the wondeful castle / village location.
Review 38:The view from rooms 2 and 3 is without peer - we prefer room two's view- room 2 is just big enough for 2 and larger than many in the uk. Our 2night stay in 2011 was not enough and we returned this time for threenights. We eat breakfast and dinner in the Restaurant daily - suggestyou have soup and any one of many first class main meals. Your hostsFernando and Rosada are lovely people. If you have not been to Marvaoyou haven't been anywhere.
Review 39:our friends room was a double on the small side with only 1 bed and no fridge / minibar and small bathroom. pointed out to owner that the room should have fridge / minibar and he moved them to a room same as ours and even brought up a small fridge as well.
Review 40:spotless clean room with fridge / mini bar, decent shower and bathroom with loads of hot water. had room with double and single bed, single a bit poor. beautiful view from window. cable tv with english news channel. good breakfast and owner fernando couldn't do enough for you
Review 41:Small hotel inside the walls of Marvao. Fernando is a friendly andhelpful host, our room was very clean and had a wonderful view. Weenjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the hotel and received a small jarof honey as a parting gift. The views from the castle walls arespectacular, we watched the sunset & enjoyed walking the quiet streets.Marvao is a window on the world in another time and place.
Review 42:location, the quiet, silence, the service, the beakfast, the talk, everything very good
Review 43:The room did not have a very pleasent smell, internet really slow
Review 44:Very friendly staff, great location
Review 45:The room is quite small.
Review 46:Excellent location with vally view. Right by the castle. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very affordable.
Review 47:Nothing to report here.
Review 48:Marvao is a fantastic place and the hotel is very well integrated in the village, fantastic view and very nice staff.
