Reviews for Dom Dinis
Review 1:Everything was just perfect, the staff and the owners were very nice and very helpful, the room was clean and cozy. we have booked a room with mountain view, but the day we arrived was raining like crazy and was foggy, so the owner told us that he had upgraded our room to the one with jacuzzi, so we are not disappointed. many thanks to these wonderful people, it was a unforgettable stay!
Review 2:Higher rate than normal.
Review 3:Better than expected tastefully decorated room with granite touches in the bathroom. Awesome views, wish i could've stayed longer. Very friendly staff.
Review 4:This was an excellent bed and breakfast staff were warm and friendly and English speaking the room had a nice view and there was a roof terrace for viewing over the village.breakfast was fresh with local produce and parking was nearby and free. There is also a nice bar over the lane.
Review 5:I found that the stiffened owner made you feel like you were one of the family. When I arrived ,Jorge came and said ,"this is your home" The staff being Claudia,Teresa,Luis at the bar and Jorge were all excellent in their professionalism, attentiveness ,politeness and friendliness at all times. This is a place that I would highly recommend and I will go back for a few days next year.
Review 6:When we arrived the staff offered us an upgrade to their best room for just a few Euros above the basic rate--and what an upgrade! It was one of the most romantic rooms of our entire trip, with a stunning vista, private terrace, newly remodeled bath with claw-foot tub, and a superb breakfast. The staff were wonderfully attentive and friendly. Although we only have the experience of the "best" (#15) we can highly recommend this one!
Review 7:The shower connected with the bath tub. Would be nice to have a support for the shower and some curtains.
Review 8:The location is excellent, very close to the gardens and the castle. Friendly staff and the best apple cake ever. The room is very new, recently renovated.
Review 9:The only sad face was ours when we were leaving.
Review 10:The staff and facilities of Dom Dinis were top notch. Any question or need was quickly attended to. The location is perfect for those who enjoy idyllic settings in mountain top villages! The terrace provides a wonderful spot to enjoy a glass of wine while viewing the distant landscape. Check out the artist located in the castle....we were very impressed with her work and made a purchase of a local scene.
Review 11:Nothing bad, but tub was a bit awkward to use.
Review 12:Staff was wonderful! Very friendly and incredibly helpful. Room with terrace was lovely. Breakfast was very good. Perfect location in an enchanting village,
Review 13:The location was breathtaking, room comfortable and the staff amazing. We did the romantic option so a bottle of sparkling wine was included for an incredably reasonable price
Review 14:our room at the ground floor was next to the eating area so the morning when breakfast was served a lot of noise was passing into the room
Review 15:great staff, very friendly; great location; very clean
Review 16:The room was small, cramped and dirty. Trouble sleeping because it f the dust...We paid for a room with a view, and there were 2 tiny windows. The breakfast was awful.
Review 17:The location was perfect.
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:Nice room in old house excellent, clean bathroom. Incredible view right from our room at the medieval wall of the city/town. Good breakfast.
Review 20:Our room was next to the breakfast room, so it there was quite some noise in the morning. We suggest to ask for a room with a view, because the view is amazing.
Review 21:Our room was quite big. Breakfast was ok, with all the basics required.
Review 22:Only having spent one night in the area, recommend you stay longer!
Review 23:We spent a wonderful night at Dom Denis in the spectacular village of Marvao. The hotel was at the top of the village so great breakfast on the terrace with superb views. Would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to other travellers, very friendly staff, great facilities in a very special location x
Review 24:Driving in the hilltop village is an adventure, so it makes a lot of sense to stop at the tourist info right at the entrance and ask for a map with directions.
Review 25:Everything, but most of all the location right at the edge of town. A parking spot right in front of the hotel! Sparkling clean. Great breakfast and very helpful hosts. We wanted to stay in the Pousada at first which was booked out. But after having seen both places I am glad we chose Dom Dinis.
Review 26:The cafe opposite is more of a lounge bar than a place to eat in the evening.
Review 27:Having breakfast on the terrace with fantastic views. Our dogs liked it too. Parking next door to the hotel is very convenient. (To find the hotel follow signs for carpark 3). I really enjoyed lazing in the beanbag with our baby in the garden of the cafe opposite (run by the same owners as the hotel).
Review 28:The shower arrangement (bathtub without a a shower curtain)
Review 29:Location, terrace with a unique view, exceptional client oriented host, being served a diner from an outside restaurant on our room terrace
Review 30:Showering in the bath tub without shower curtain or screen, causes a wet floor... Just a minor detail!
Review 31:Having booked the room with private terrace, we could enjoy the fantastic view and sunset from there. The room is spacious, very clean and nicely decorated. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Opposite Dom Dinis there is a nice bar, from which you may take drinks to your room or the terrace.
Review 32:Hand held shower only, would have preferred one you can stand under. Bath was fun though!
Review 33:Very friendly welcome and impeccable service from Jorge! Very comfy room including fun jets in the bath. Perfect location for exploring this lovely town. Nice little cafe across the road run by the same people, I think.
Review 34:A very small problem was the internet which was not consistent.
Review 35:The room was lovely and rustic, but the bathroom very modern with a hair dryer provided. The owner was very nice, and the location impossible to be better. It's a fairytale town and this place fits right in.
Review 36:Bathroom: no work surface, only 1 small sink, no bathtub Breakfast: orange juice not good, no orange marmalade, limited choice, no croissants.
Review 37:Location: superb Old Building: wonderful Friendly Staff
Review 38:Beautiful location, our room had a fantastic view from the top of Marvao. Staff - especially George - were very welcoming and friendly. Rooms were very nice, quiet and clean - breakfast was a very nice buffet we could either choose to eat indoors or carry up onto the terrace on a tray - amazing view from there too! There's a small cafe/bar with a nice green seating area that seems to be under the same management just across the street (they have a parrot called Dom Dinis too), and the castle is just down the road. Perfect!
Review 39:The bar opposite that is linked with the hotel has a shortage of staff. A lot of the crockery at breakfast was chipped.
Review 40:Location is beautiful. Room and terrace have wonderful views.
Review 41:Nothing.
Review 42:Staying in this room with its four poster bed and private terrace with magnificent view over the valley below was a highlight of our trip. Marvao is a magical white hill town with cobbled streets and beautiful gardens, clean and well maintained, that everyone should try to include on their itinerary in Portugal. Dom Dinis is a medieval property meticulously renovated with quality fittings and spacious modern bathroom. The castle with a spectacular view over town and countryside is a short distance up the road and it is possible to walk around the medieval town walls. Dinner at Varanda do Alentejo was a fitting accompaniment to our first class stay at Dom Dinis.
Review 43:Having to leave
Review 44:We very much enjoyed our stay in Marvao .Hotel situated in an elevated position overlooking the plain below and mountains beyond. Situated within walled town and next to Castle. Breakfast was very good and hostess helpful and friendly
Review 45:Marvão is a wonderful picturesque hill town with a castle at 840 metres and Dom Dinis is about the best location in the town with wonderful views from the more expensive south facing rooms. The staff were extremely helpful and all the rooms have been re-furbished to a very high standard. The serve yourself buffet breakfast (cereals, yogurt, rolls, cheese, meat, fruit, coffee, cake etc.) was very good although the coffee was never hot.
Review 46:WIFI signal was weak in the room.
Review 47:I travel around Portugal. This place was best view, great service, great breakfast , best room, best atomosphere. I love this place!
Review 48:Room 15 is perfect and has its own balcony and fantastic views. Jorge and Theresa were perfect hosts and their hotel is in a superb location. Castle and museum next to the hotel are both excellent.
Review 49:None
Review 50:This is a small family run hotel within a 17th century building, located in the most amazing scenic location at the pinnacle of the mountain right alongside a wonderfully preserved castle. What more could you want as an experience? Well, the friendly welcome, the charm of the owners and staff and the cleanliness of the hotel all help!
Review 51:We did not find good restaurants in Marvao, and it is a long, winding road down the hill to restaurants. We hired a taxi for the evening for a birthday dinner.
Review 52:There are great views from Dom Dinis. Our room was very comfortable.
Review 53:we were happy to meet and talk with Jorge Rosado that was polite helpful and spent time to give us advice about the trip in the area. tks again Jorge
Review 54:We loved our stay at this boutique hotel. Our room was lovely with the added bonus of a spa bath which was very relaxing after a hot day in the sun exploring this quaint village. The staff could not do enough to make sure we had everything we needed. Great recommendation for dinner. Good breakfast also.
Review 55:Breakfast, needed to ask for extra stuff. No warm dishes served.
Review 56:Nice medieval hotel, clean and comfortable room, really really good support from the owners!
Review 57:No insect nets at the windows (they are really a necessity in the hot season).
Review 58:Perfect location on the top of the hill, 2 minutes away from the castle entrance, in the idilic town of Marvão. Excellent service & nice breakfast. Very kind and helpful staff.
Review 59:Leaving too soon...
Review 60:The property is outstanding, close to Marvao's stunning castle. Original old house was renovated with top quality matterials, great taste, attention to details. Best B&B I ever visited worldwide, simply fantastic experience
Review 61:Depends on the location in the room, wifi did not work well.
Review 62:Staying this hotel itself is worthwhile. you can stay in the distinguishing scenery of Marvaon. Friendly and pleasant reception.
Review 63:The drive up to the location next to the castle on the top of the hill can be a bit harrowing unless you are an adrenaline junkie.
Review 64:We had essentially 2 rooms with 2 bathrooms that closed behind one interconnecting door. It worked great for traveling with kids.
Review 65:The walls are very thin and the bed was not the most comfortable. I would still stay here again in a second, but those are things to be aware of. Also, Wifi worked well in the lobby, but only intermittently in the room.
Review 66:Staff was extremely attentive, the hotel itself is beautiful and comfortable, and the location is unbeatable. Breakfast was very good and should definitely be eaten on the terrace whenever possible!
Review 67:No trash bin in the main room. Water coming out of the shower and going on the floor. Internet not working at all.
Review 68:Nice view on the terrace. The design of the room.
Review 69:Steps away from the castle. Jorge was very eager to insure your stay is comfortable. Restaurant just around the corner. Cafe across the street. Driving to the hotel is an experience in itself but worth it. You are up on the mountain within the walls of the Medieval Village.
Review 70:Localização excelente, mesmo ao lado do Castelo. Staff muito simpático e disponível. Quarto super confortável, muito limpo, com bom aquecimento, e com um wc com condições de hotel top.
Review 71:Bed a little hard and could not get towel heater to work
Review 72:Location, quality of furnishings, staff very helpful, beautifully renovated considering age building, proximity to castle6
Review 73:One thing to fault only recommend resultant in the group and we did not realise that andd totally rubbish food and 7 euro each for just bread and butter brought to our table with olives a bit of a joke we know u pay but 14 euro for 2 for I packet tin foil pate and two butters mmmm a joke food pant too. Did to work on food recommendation
Review 74:George could not do more top bloke
Review 75:Low cloud, but hey this the highest town in Portugal so what do you expect in January!
Review 76:Jorge and Teresa couldn't be more helpful. Location fantastic. Room 15 the best. Cafe just across the road is great, as is the Dom Dinis the parrot.
Review 77:Marvao is wonderful, this little turismo rural is truly special. Rooms small (I had a single so doubles may well be larger), bathroom small but beautifully kitted out with delicious shower gel etc. lovely monogrammed towels. Candles lit in room and bathroom. Super hot water and heating.
Review 78:Rooms are not that big as they look on photos. Yet, they are good enough for few days travellers.
Review 79:Good and friendly staff on reception. Great location in Marvao castle! Luxury appartment has awesome terrace access with magnificient view. Highly recommend.
Review 80:Coffee not the best but you can't have everything!
Review 81:Wonderful location just a stone's throw from the castle with free parking nearby. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. Breakfast better than most with decent cheeses, jamon and chorizos. Bed comfortable, room very quiet and warm with a good combination of heating and air conditioning. Very nice, smart and friendly cafe/bar (linked to Dom Dinis, I think) just over the road All round a really nice place to stay.
Review 82:high stairs , no rooms on low floor
Review 83:At our arrival Teresa welcomed us with such a friendly and natural smile that made us feel at home. She showed us two rooms to choose . One was larger the other had a wonderful view. We chose the second. Breakfast was good and in general the palce was charmy and magic
Review 84:Small room, very small bathroom
Review 85:We stayed two nights and had the room with view of the castle and the area which was nice, parking was easily possible, there was a fridge in the room
Review 86:Can not think of anything.
Review 87:Stay overnight, or longer, in Marvao is the perfect way to see this wonderful mountain village and its beautiful surroundings. The small Dom Dinis hotel is on the south ridge and has beautiful views from its outside terrace. Very kind and professional staff, speaking English as well. Delicious breakfast. Rooms are not big but well equiped. We had a lovely stay. Thank you Dom Dinis !
Review 88:the small small shower, the internet didn't work at all in the hotel, but we had acces to the internet of the coffee bar in front of the hotel that belongs too, to the same owner
Review 89:the area, the kindness, they help us with finding easy internet acces, telephone free to set a problem prior arrival, the heat on the room worked very well
Review 90:nothing.
Review 91:Very warm welcome and guidance to the hotel within the medieval walls. Great view into the valley and to the mountains on the opposite site from our private terrasse next to the medieval walls surrounding Marvao. Absolutely quiet location. Good breakfast with excellent plum jam.
Review 92:Bed was very hard. Blankets a little old feeling. But all bedding and towels were perfectly clean. Hotel info should include where they are located. They are a the top of the walled city - park in lot 3.
Review 93:Excellent location at the top of the village (park in lot 3!) just next to the castle. Helpful staff, bed was hard but comfortable. Good breakfast selections. Ample parking available in lot just next to hotel.
Review 94:Bed was a little hard but typical of Portugese beds!
Review 95:Views, comfortable room somewhat larger than expected, sufficient space for two large sets of luggage. Check in very friendly and efficient, and car parking available. The road inside the city was a little daunting but take it slowly and there is no problem for a car. Good breakfast.
Review 96:The town was a bit deserted with few locais;but, then again, it made for a peaceful experience.
Review 97:From the moment we walked into this historical building and opened the window with an unforgettable view of the surrounding countryside, we knew we had made the right choice. Ask for room 16 which has a great view. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful in suggesting a walk around the castle walls in order to get acquainted with the torna.
Review 98:nothing
Review 99:unbelievable place, everything was top notch, owners were the best and they can not do enough for you. Marvao is a wonderful walled city high on the mountain and the views are to die for. If you are in the area do not miss this town or dom dinis they both triple AAA rated in my ook
Review 100:Imagine a castle on top of a mountain and you are staying next door. Memorable drive up is worth the view. Bruno, Daniel and staff were great. Private balcony is a plus. Unforgettable!
Review 101:Room and bathroom small (but other rooms were bigger with more room)
Review 102:Service fantastic Nice and quiet Comfortable, felt at home Great location and view Great hospitality Terrace watching sunset
Review 103:The shower is very small, we are not big people but there was no room to wash yourself!
Review 104:Beds are okay, location close to the castle is perfect as well as the view!!! Staff is maybe too friendly ;-)
Review 105:Our stay was too short!!! The hotel provided excellent service....staff was beyond accomodating. The family room was warm and inviting, air conditioning worked well. The breakfast was delicious, more than we expected. The views were breathtaking, and the location beside the castle was gorgeous. We will return!!! Maria and Dom, Canada

Review 108:Fabulous location; wonderful room; delightful staff. And Marvao is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! Just out of this world!
Review 109:Hard to get to, but so worth it. Just know it is truly up in the hill in the middle of the old ancient town of Marvao.
Review 110:This spot was one of our favorites of the whole trip. The view and beauty were amazing. So charming to stay at this place up next to the old fort and to walk the cobblestone roads to take in the white washed buildings all around us. The owners were so nice and own a little bar across the road, which was perfect to take in the sunset.
Review 111:There was nothing to dislike.
Review 112:The village and it's history; the hotel location relative to the astounding views and the castle; the quaintness of the facility yet well equipped and comfortable. Very helpful staff. wonderful breakfast, and dinner at Varanda do Alentejo offered great choices and superb cuisine. Great value for the price.
Review 113:Not really much choice for food in the neighborhood.
Review 114:The most beautiful and fantasy-like stay of our half-month in Spain and Portugal. Marvao and Dom Dinis are superbly memorable.
Review 115:beautiful setting in medieval walled village complete with castle to look round two minutes walk from hotel. Swallows flying above your head till dusk added to the feeling of looking down on the world below - Marvao is on a hill which overlooks miles of plains and over to the Spanish border. Jorge on reception and serving in the bar spoke great English and was very welcoming, couldn't have been more helpful
