Reviews for El-Rei Dom Manuel

Review 1:Nothing. Some might not like the lack of eating choices in the town but the hotel's restaurant was fine for us.

Review 2:It's a family-run hotel & they obviously have pride in their hotel. It's worth making sure that you get a rom with a view. A really comfortable room with heating, which was on-very welcome at times in this region. Good breakfast. Very enjoyable evening meal ('arroz de tamboril'-monkfish rice stew-worth splashing out), with very professional & pleasant staff.

Review 3:A fantastic find, excellent condition with recent renovations. We had a stunning view from our window across the valley below towards the Spanish border, a great dinner and excellent service. You can drive the car to the front door with parking outside.

Review 4:Only thing I didnt like was a shower curtain instead of a screen (just a pet hate of mine)

Review 5:lovely old hotel, very cosy and attractive room in a great location. Very good breakfast included in the price

Review 6:Everyone at the hotel was very accommodating, the beds were comfortable, the location was excellent and the view from the hilltop was magnificent. We really enjoyed exploring the town of Marvao & the castle was most interesting!

Review 7:Couldn't open wardrobe door to access drawers due to position of bedside table. Room small, but layout could be better. Room measurements given in square feet!!!!.Evening meal expensive and food poor - stewed vegetables and overcooked frozen fish.

Review 8:Location and views from window.

Review 9:Great location inside the walls of the historic hilltop walled town of Marvao, with far views over the Alentejo and into Spain. Parking right in front of hotel. Friendly staff. Elevator, so no need to lug bags upstairs. We requested a room on a higher floor and had a walkout balcony with lovely views over the town and countryside. Rooms are not huge, our bed was a double not a queen, shower is on the tight side. But everything clean and comfortable. Restaurant in the hotel serves good local fare, although no view from restaurant, but there are several other restaurants inside the walls close by. Overall this a great little hotel in a fabulous location, ideal for a one or two night stay on a driving tour of Portugal.

Review 10:Hotel restaurant was recommended by several guides, but not open when we stayed there.

Review 11:Old-fashionned but very charming house & room. Clean & quiet.

Review 12:Location was superb. High with usual narrow roads to get there but fabulous once there. Friendly at reception and very helpful. Small rooms and only a double bed but made up by superb view over the countryside.

Review 13:Please, incease the price a bit and provide a better breakfast. No part of it is acceptable.

Review 14:Very good location, a beautiful huse and a good three bed room

Review 15:Everything is new and immaculate. We had room 201 which was lovely and had a small outside courtyard. The rooms are beautifully furnished. The restaurant is very good and the managers, Manuel & Celeste, as well their staff were wonderful! The church bells ring every 15 minutes but stop at 9:00, so it was very quiet. We loved this hotel!

Review 16:We would definitely recommend this hotel .perfect location. Lovely staff. Don't worry about booking a room with view because all you have to do is walk outside and takeit all in.

Review 17:Staff were not very welcoming. The prices are high enough they shouldn't charge 3eu for a bottle of water, taking up counter space in the room. Breakfast wasn't very good.

Review 18:Marvao was an interesting town and the views from the room were pretty.

Review 19:We were a little disappointed that the museum and little churches in the town were not open to see inside.

Review 20:We had a beautiful view over Spain from our lovely room which was very magical day and night. Marvoe is a unique location, fascinating history and lovely old town.

Review 21:We had expected a better breakfast (better food, generally) at a 4 star hotel... The restaurant was too overpriced and served just passable dishes

Review 22:Very nice room, classy decoration, comfortable and clean, great facilities.

Review 23:Why have I to pay €1 for the coffee that should be included in my breakfast?

Review 24:The location is awesome on the top of the hill inside of the walls of the castle! Warm atmosphere in a rustic hotel!

Review 25:Wifi was sporadic. Not the fault of the hotel - we were told there was maintenance work being done on the cables outside.

Review 26:Huge room Excellent quality sheets, service, towels, breakfast, hosts, view Warm friendly staff/owners Marvao is one of Portugal's best kept secrets.

Review 27:We booked the hotel based on reviews and were not disappointed we had a standard room with no view but at this time of year as it is dark by 5 pm a view is a none essential extra ,Staff were very kind and helpful and we intend to return .

Review 28:If I had one complaint, it would be that the Wi-Fi capacity was good enough for browsing but streaming videos was a bit choppy.

Review 29:The staff is very friendly and willing to help out with directions, general advice and they even prepared some nice take away breakfast for us due to having to leave early on departure. The village, the views and the location is just amazing. Even the in-hotel restaurant was very nice.

Review 30:Nothing really. There was nothing to dislike other than the fact that we had to leave to travel on.

Review 31:The room with a view over the valley looking towards Spain, the food, we had dinner and breakfast both were first rate. As in most of Portugal the friendliness of the staff and help with information. The setting was magic. It made us wake up early just to see the sunrise from an "eagles' perch position".

Review 32:The location of the Hotel is a big attraction and makes it very easy to find on arrival in Marvao. We received a very warm welcome and found the service in this Hotel very good throughout our overnight stay, evening meal and breakfast

Review 33:Scary narrow cobbled streets of the town which are not oneway.

Review 34:A wonderful hotel in such a lovely village which felt on top of the world. Great bed and very pretty room. Had an excellent evening meal in the hotel. Parking right outside our door.

Review 35:If you visit this hotel you will not be disappointed in fact you will be blown away by the hotel and surrounding area. You are virtually inside castle walls and the ride/drive up to the top is mind blowing. We are going to return next year, cant wait........

Review 36:Nothing.

Review 37:Small hotel, near the wall of Medieval stone town. Room is quite comfortable, and the view from the window is magnificent. Staff is very helpful, though when we arrive the receptionist spoke almost no English. Highly recommended.

Review 38:We loved this old world hotel with the most beautiful setting and the views. We had a mountain view room with terrace, the best. We also had a real good dinner there. I won't hesitate to stay here again.

Review 39:Nothing not to like about the Hotel or the town.

Review 40:Marvao is worth the effort to travel to, and the Hotel El-Rei Dom Manuelis a great hotel to stay in being located in a prime position justinside the town walls. Our room had an amazing view over the valleysbelow and to the mountains in the distance. It is definitely worthpaying I think 10 Eur extra for a room with an uninterrupted view. Ourroom also had a small balcony with a table and 2 chairs overlooking thearea in front of the hotel. We ate in the hotel restaurant and it was excellent; reasonably priced selection of local dishes. The staff were excellent and spoke good English. They gave us a map and plenty of helpful information on the town. We had a rental car and there is plenty of (free) parking right in front of the hotel. The access road from the town wall to the hotel is cobbled and rather narrow..dont be concerned though; it an exciting little drive and adds to the Marvao experience.

Review 41:The room was very nice, even more considering the price. The location was great with easy parking and the breakfast was good. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and everything was spotless.

Review 42:The shower water jet is quite weak and the area of the room is quite tiny bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb- bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb- bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb- bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb

Review 43:The restaurant was supposed to be of Michelin Guide standard, however it was a disgrace. The chefs recommendation of lamb stew was not browned, undercooked and full of since and bone pieces. The fish spreads, superbly hand-made in most restaurants, were processed sachets akin to McDonalds, as was the desert menu. After we departed in the morning, my wife developed several awful bites, which could only be bed-bugs and which continue to torment her and for which, there can be no excuse. The breakfast was also very mediocre. I strongly advise others to stay clear.

Review 44:On arrival we were delighted with this hotel in this lovely town. It appeared to be clean and classy and the staff pleasant. However our delight did not last.

Review 45:Friendly and helpful staff. Very nice location - well worth the trip. Don't miss the fully renovated castle at the top of the hill. Tasty dinner with local specialties.
