Reviews for Old Quarter Cyclo Hotel
Review 1:The hotel is a little bit old and cold if the weather is cold. But still a very nice place!
Review 2:We stayed a couple of nights in this amazing hotel and we loved it! The staff is so friendly and helpful. I recommend this place for small budgets. The owner even bought us Christmas present on the 24 December. We were so surprised. Anna is very helpful and she booked us amazing tours following our budget. Thank you old quarter cycle hotel!
Review 3:Staff was very rude. They give me room at 5th floor with no lift, and it was very dirty. When i ask them to give me the other room at lower floor , they said with the money i paid, i only can get that room, and she said I can cancel my booking if I want. after that I have to pay more to get other room at second floor and it was as dirty as the one at 5th floor. Inside bathroom is so smelly and many fly. Bed sheets is dirty too. Wifi is so bad. and very noisy . I will never come back .
Review 4:big room
Review 5:The hotel is in serious need of maintenance, there is broken fixtures and fittings throughout the hotel and it is in serious need of some TLC. The beds were very hard and we were woken up at 3am by shouting in the stairwell which lasted for around an hour.
Review 6:They staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The location is great, walking distance to everywhere. Breakfast was really nice and the restaurant meals were delicious.
Review 7:Be warned that they bolt the door at night so if you need to get in late you have to wake the poor boy sleeping in the lobby!
Review 8:Great location, staff were so friendly, lovely balcony and morning light! Great value for money.
Review 9:Highly recommended if you visit Ha Noi.Staff were friendly and helpful.Great location, great hotel (15$/night with free wifi,at the heart of the Oldquarter). We had our trip to Ha Long bay, another great memory to treasure arranged by them.It is the best trip we've had in Viet Nam.Our luggages were stored and taken cared off while we were away.
Review 10:It's fine to have a basic hotel, but there were some serious maintenance issues, the bathroom shelf was "held up" with plaster (which didn't work), there were basic fuse switches to turn on the air conditioner and water heater (which had wires hanging out of it) and furniture in terrible condition. However, it was clean and I was always out so I stayed another night for simplicity.
Review 11:Convenient location and helpful staff
Review 12:Staff were incredibly friendly and booked our trip to hoi an for us. Great value for money and they let us keep our belongings there whilst we were in hoi an for 2 days.
Review 13:Staff was absolutely great, allways a smile and provide us with information about food and city tours. Very accomodating. After cancelation of Halong Bay tour due to typhoon we got most of our money back without any problem. Hotel is right in the middle of the old quarter Hanoi; great street food, restaurants, shopping centre and the lake is at walking distance
Review 14:This is the best hotel with 15$\night.Friendly and helpful staff. We book Ha Long tour 2 days 1 night in hotel.we pay only 95$\pax to get 3 start service.we were really happy.thank you so much.we will stay again if we come back Ha Noi.
Review 15:Bathroom and bedroom was a little old and the balcony was not maintained (a bit slimy and covered with air-conditioner water dripping). Breakfast was quite expensive.
Review 16:Location was good and most places in the old quarters were within walking distance. Staff was helpful and did their best.
Review 17:The toilets were old and not well maintained. The balcony wasn't useable although there was one in the room. It was wet with water from the air conditioner dripping all the time.
Review 18:The location of the property was quite central in the Old Quarter. Everything was pretty much walking distance and the staff was accommodating.
Review 19:tv a bit fuzzy.
Review 20:Friendly staff spoke English, room had a lovely balcony, quite high. Aircon and hot water. Nice hard bed. Nice stairs and tiles. Everything great. Excellent value for money.
Review 21:The soundproofing was poor- some Chinese guests kept me awake and woke me up every single day by talking loudly in their room with the door shut! It's a bit shabby, the furniture and fittings need a refresh. The restaurant bar was shrouded in darkness and no one seemed to be using it but then with some many eating places on your doorstep this wasn't a problem. Bed bit uncomfortable.
Review 22:The staff were kind and helpful with excellent English. The colonial features in the hotel were beautiful. It was very clean. Location was superb. They organised good value and efficient pick up and drop off from the airport even though the time for drop off changed 3 times in 1 day due to vietjet and their general incompetence.
Review 23:Got put in the room on the top floor that was no penthouse suite! Despite booking ahead the double room was actually a twin. Had to leave passports and the room key at reception when we left for the day, which made us uneasy. metal windows that leaked and didn't lock. Water stopped working on our second night and nothing was done about it, despite asking. Air con was bad and we were so hot. The staff were very friendly but so unorganised it was painful. Did not enjoy it at all, sorry!
Review 24:Good location Clean although very shoddy Friendly staff
Review 25:Not really bad, more amusing. 2 types of eggs on menu - fried and omelette. Every morning (5 days) I asked for fried eggs, got omelette, no problem, not a big deal. last day of stay, asked for omelette, got 2 beautifully fried eggs!
Review 26:Loved the place - sure, old, cheap, but in the middle of the old quarter, close to everything.
Review 27:Some times no water (at all) in the bathroom Breakfast could be better - more choices. They overpriced a bit on our train tickets. I don't mind paying extra to avoid the hussle at the station myself, but just be open about it.! Instead they put a little note on the ticket so you don't see the official price :-)
Review 28:WiFi internet was excellent! Close to Hoan Kiem Lake (10 min. walk) Charming room with balcony Right price = Value for money
Review 29:We stayed on the 3rd floor with a balcony room. When it is 85 degrees Fahrenheit and 100% humidity it is a challenge to get to your air conditioned room. So not really a complaint, just an observation.
Review 30:I really enjoyed the welcome feeling from the hotel staff. They helped find the best shopping, showed us where they like to eat, and assisted us with booking a rental scooter and cruise in Ha Long Bay.
Review 31:As in many hotels in Asian countries not much attention is paid to the condition of the bathroom equipment. You always will find loose hanging sincks, shelves, shower stands, etc.
Review 32:Friendly helpful staff. They response at your request for service quite well
Review 33:Last 2 nights we were moved to the 5th floor, great views but absolutely zero water pressure in the shower, impossible to use it without agony! Wifi doesn't reach and room wasn't very clean (hair in sheets etc). Asked to be moved...not possible! Asked to just have a shower in another room before leaving...not possible! The guy at reception who works at night was less than helpful to say the least! Final verdict: it's got lots of potential and is in a great location. Paying 18-20$ for a room here is not really worth it though as there are nicer options around. For 10$ it's ok value for money.
Review 34:First two nights we were upgraded to a room with balcony on the 2nd floor. Bliss! Lovely clean room and great value for money! Ladies at reception & your desk were very sweet & helpful!
Review 35:breakfast could be improved but too be honest there are many great places around to eat..for comfort try the lantern lounge
Review 36:we booked a balcony room at a reasonable price which is always a great option as many rooms in hotels are windowless..nothing worse in the tropics..the room was spacious clean and comfortable and with a bath and shower. The staff are very helpful and accommodating and there English is good..we got picked up for our bus here
Review 37:The room was damp,AC very noisy,TV no remote, very noisy from water overflow out side, room was never cleaned or bed clothing never changed in 8 days. The room was very smelly I think from urine. Breakfast was not nice not worth going down for.would not recommend this hotel not worth $16 get rid of the cleaner!
Review 38:Nice staff good location. Service for taxi was good and for tours.we got good value and good service for that.thank you.
Review 39:Management needs to know that people don't sleep directly on the box spring. We changed rooms to improve the bed and to get a quieter room.
Review 40:Li, the desk manager, worked very hard for us, and was successful in meeting all our needs. For the price, you can't expect The Ritz.
Review 41:The place could use a bit more upkeep to bring back its old charm.
Review 42:The receptionists were very helpful and their English proficiency was enough for us to understand each other. The room is spacious with high ceiling. I love the accordion doors which open up to a balcony, tiny balcony though. Best value for your money, especially for backpackers.
Review 43:-first of all the hotel doesn'tlook as in the pictures.old furniture, not so clean, rather poor shabby look. -we left food in the room and when we returned from walking in the town it was covered with ants. They changed the room with a better one.however they told us that for better keeping to put the food in the fridge.
Review 44:+staff very helpful and willing to make your stay easier +location rather close to old quarter but on a street rather noisy +wifi ok
Review 45:Lee is a very easy going person, always smiling, polite and helpful. He's not trying to stole you like some others do, and his english is very good.
Review 46:The wifi is not very fast and sometimes unaccessible. But it did not bug me much since I got a local simcard there.
Review 47:The receptionists are very helpful. They provided me with a free map and marked the places that I must go. When I asked for recommendations of local food, they suggested that I go to some nice places nearby; and they turn out delicious and amazing.
Review 48:Breakfast was very basic. Little bit of pressure from staff to know what your plans were in order to sell tickets etc, showers were almost cold.
Review 49:Location was good to see the most interesting area to travellers.
Review 50:The staff were friendly to me, but they would not let my friends check in or even leave their bags in the lobby, because the reservation was under my name. The location is fine, but it is about a kilometer away from the night life and most of the restaurants.
Review 51:I've been to Hanoi at least 5 times this year, and this hotel was the quietest place I've stayed at yet.
Review 52:The whole place is fantastic value for money. The staff went above and beyond the call of duty, sending 12 postcards that we'd forgotten to get stamps for after we'd left. They were so friendly and helpful while we were there and they made our stay in Hanoi very pleasant. For us, good staff and value for money are the two most important features when finding a place to stay on a budget. This place ticks the boxes. Highly recommended. A big thank you again to all of the staff.
Review 53:Great staff that helps with everything, including organizing trips and trust worthy advice. Perfect location. Very nice atmosphere. Would definately go here again.
Review 54:No shelves in the bathroom, a minor inconvenience
Review 55:Clean, we could leave our bagpacks at the reception over many days, take a shower after checking out, staff very helpful. GOOD HOTEL FOR ITS PRICE
Review 56:pushing for selling tours
Review 57:we only stayed here 1 night and it was perfect for us. we could have breakfast for 2 dollar and the beds and the room was clean. It's in the middle of the centre and for a few nights in Hanoi this hotel is more then enough.
Review 58:The staff is awesome! Very kind. It's in the middle of Old Quarter and all the highlights are really nearby. The beds in the small room are fine, in the bigger room they are more soft en we liked them better!
Review 59:Booked a premium room and were put in a standard without mentioning anything and we were not able to sleep at Night because it was so loud
Review 60:Rooms were more or less clean
Review 61:The restaurant floor was rubble, drilling noise into the evening. Had a cockroach on our bag in the morning. Taxi drivers don't seem to know it, so had to navigate with our map from a few streets away every time we wanted to get back.
Review 62:Within the old quarter, so handy for that. Price was reasonable with breakfast thrown in, decent wifi and the air con kept us comfortable
Review 63:Breakfast is one in a dark, unpleasant room, and two, very little and nothing to boast about. We ate elsewhere. Untoasted packed bread, eggs, coffee.
Review 64:The Old Cyclo has a colonial charm with balconies and big wooden shutters. Rooms out the back are quiet (hard to find in Ha Noi) unless someone turns on the stereo. Location is very good, right in the middle of the old quarter, 3 minutes from the lake. The hotel could use a make-over, and there are plenty others for the same price/standard or less, but we liked this one for its colonial charm.
Review 65:The room was clean but e extremely gloomy. Not a place u want t go hang out and relax in but pretty good value.
Review 66:The staff were very friendly and made us feel at home.
Review 67:There were no windows....the room was old and dirty... No hot water in some rooms
Review 68:Location
Review 69:Dirty and ugly room, avoid this place!
Review 70:Thank you for advice and your help . Very good location in the city .
Review 71:Hard beds and many stairs.
Review 72:Good location and nice staff.
Review 73:room not clean bed not comfort
Review 74:only price very cheap and staff very helpful
Review 75:Good location even if you arrive by train or bus to the city. Staff was friendly and helpful with transportation to Sapa.
Review 76:The air con was not cold and the TV and the refrigerator were not functioning
Review 77:Reception staff are pushy sales reps and so rude..worst I've ever experienced. Very unhelpful and just a .....
Review 78:Great laundry services. The air con started leaking, but they immediately had someone to fix it! Excellent location, close to everything!
Review 79:Unfriendly owner who was constantly trying to sell us tours Wifi doesn't work properly. It keeps disconnecting every ten seconds
Review 80:The staff helpful and smile all the time Speak English well and the hotel value price.
Review 81:There were ants!
Review 82:A private room for ten bucks in a decent location.
Review 83:stairs and bed
Review 84:Location, staff
Review 85:stairs, balcony and breakfast
Review 86:Staff, location and atmospere
Review 87:Complimentary Ants in room not appreciated. Motor bikes parked in breakfast area......they stank
Review 88:Friendly, helpful staff
Review 89:Great location, very nice staff always ready to help.
Review 90:Heater was not working Not so clean shower
Review 91:Friendly and helpfull staff Good bed
Review 92:Dusche hat keinen Vorhang
Review 93:They sell great tours to best prices as we found out ourselves on a trip to halong bay
Review 94:staff is very kind and mostly helpful, have an answer at every demands and good advice. I recommand
Review 95:nothing
Review 96:Accepting the asian mood, negativ things turn to the positiv!
Review 97:There was no hot water in our first room, so they gave us another room.
Review 98:the location is good
Review 99:None
Review 100:Staff were accommodating and friendly
Review 101:old bilding, mold and wet walls. no elevator.
Review 102:nice and kind people!
Review 103:We changed two rooms: Wifi never works. No AC remote in the rooms. Lot of ants, two beetles. Not clean at all.
Review 104:In the city center.
Review 105:the rooms advertised is not as big as it says. i booked a 30m2 room but it was just over 20. first i thought it was wrong room. but the manager insisted the room was 30m2. the wifi worked ok, but not in the first room where i could not stay more than one night because the a/c did not work. overall it is an ok hotel compared to many others. and i would be happy to come again if i can get the room on promotion :-)
Review 106:i stayed in a room with balcony and it was really nice to open up the doors and let lots of light come in. the room was spacious and clean and the bed comfortable. the staff was very nice to me and genuinely friendly
Review 107:The mattresses were a little hard for us.
Review 108:Lovely relaxed place, friendly, trustworthy and helpfulstaff. Very nice at the end of a crazy day to unwind with a drink on the balcony. Great prices with good choice of breakfasts included. We stayed 2 nights and would go there again any time.
Review 109:My third room was on a lower floor. It was danker, and I was horrified to find that the sheets had not been changed (for a while, judging by a couple hairs and a generally dingy appearance and texture) and that the towels were damp and slightly mildewy. This was too much even for me to tolerate (especially downgrading from the first two rooms!), so I went and asked for sheets. A man brought up sheets, but not pillowcases, so I had to go ask for pillowcases and towels. He then brought up pillowcases, but not towels. When he brought the towels, I told him that one of the pillowcases was still dirty. At this point, even he grimaced in embarrassment, and brought me a replacement that smelled sufficiently of bleach to satisfy me.This floor was also tile, and not wood. That gave it a cold feeling. The balcony was a lot larger, but looked out onto a slightly less inspiring view. The bathroom, however, had the nicest, largest, cleanest tub out of all three rooms I had seen, which only contributes to my emphasis that this place is inconsistent…and unique. Before going to bed, I tried to haggle the staff for a discount (just out of principle). She started telling me how the rate was a special afforded by the large cut that the lister took, and that they were already strained. But, she gave me a $3 discount off of what would have been a $15 ride to the airport (already a damn good deal, considering it took $35 on an airport taxi to get from the airport to the Hanoi train station when I first arrived and went straight North to Sapa).A little ghost story is that I woke up suddenly around 2 a.m. with a strange feeling and saw my street sandals right next to my bed, next to the hotel slippers that I'd been wearing. I would NEVER have worn my dirty sandals into my own room, and had lain down in bed at 10 p.m. after leaving my sandals as close to the door as possible and using the hotel slippers only. This freaked me out.
Review 110:Despite my variegated ratings, I couldn't think of a better place to stay in an old, almost Victorian locale such as the lively Old Quarter of Hanoi.A photo by a reviewer of tall wood double doors thrown open to a balcony and towers of urbanity outside were what caught my eye and led me to book a night here when I was still planning my trip from the States. The night cost me about 15 U.S. dollars.I was a bit of an unusual guest, in that I arrived at about 6 a.m. after arriving from a night train from Lao Cai (northern gateway to the rural, mountainous region of Sapa). The man at the front desk had perfectly fine English, and informed me that no one had checked out yet. Dazed and ragged from my trip, I showed him a printout of my reservation, which stated that I'd specified my arrival time. He told me that that field was optional, and that no one ever checked out at this hour. Even through my exhaustion, I had to acknowledge that this was fair.As luck would have it, though, someone had checked out of a spot on the second floor. I went up there; some used towels were still hanging on the rack in the bathroom, but I hardly cared. There were slippers. There were two beds, one of them still made. And there was privacy. And clean wooden floors. And no bugs. Rather than lie down and rest, I brought my laundry downstairs. The man had told me that it would be impossible to do within the same day, but said that I could get the my clothes back at dawn the next morning before embarking on a cruise to Halong Bay.After this, a woman replaced the man at the desk. She also spoke fine English and was so kind as to provide me a map in both English and Vietnamese, marking the way to Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum and other sites I had hoped to visit. The walk there was an adventure, but a completely reasonable distance.Even if I'd already shoveled a bunch of street pho into my mouth, I came back to claim the free breakfast as well.
Review 111:I would highly recommend this hotel, stayed here for one night and its a reasonable price and in a good location and close to the lake. The rooms were very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. If i returned to Hanoi I would happily stay here again.
Review 112:The staff we're welcoming and friendly but there hotel was broken, damp, dated and unloved. Sink hanging off the wall. Room had no window smelt like a tent and the bed felt like how I'd imagine lying on a mechanics tool chest
Review 113:I couldn't fault it.
Review 114:Lisa and her staff made our stay stress free, comfortable and adventurous! Lisa organised everything from our airport transfers to booking our Halong Bay and Sapa tours to helping us find somewhere to eat. I would come back again and highly recommend booking The Cyclo Hotel when stayig in Hanoi.
Review 115:It was too cold at the room. And sink was leaking on the floor, I mean you can not wash your hands in sink, because your pants getting wet. (room number 204) Then a girl asked us to leave a key at the reception at the morning, because they need to clean our room. When we came back , the door was not closed. I mean everyone can came to the room and take whatever they want. We did not find 200$ (in Russian and swiss money). Then the boy in the morning forgot to give us back our passports (and we drived back to hotel from airport), also he do not know how to use a bank terminal. Also travel agency in your hotel! We tried to order a Halong 1 day tour. It costs 25$. But she said that she has a good option, we need to pay 38$ and it will be private. Only 20 people (not 40), it will be 5 hours on boat and 40 min for kayaking. How was we stupid to say YES! Oh my god! It was the same tour, she just took the more price for us! It was 4 hours boat trip, 60 people on boat, and 25 min of kayaking! And small bus! That was terrible, also because it was our last day and we can not say it for this girl!
Review 116:Actually I did not enjoy my staying at your hotel. The room was great, but not the same as we ordered. We order a room with a balcony, and receptionist gave us a room with the widow watching at the wall!!! She said that there is no room as we ordered. At all I was surprised to get an e-mail from that hotel. Thank you, Lisa for your support.
Review 117:We were there in end of December, and Hanoi was quite cold. The room did not have any heating, and basically everything apart from the room is open air (staircase is in a sort of open air atrium), which made our stay a very cold experience. the breakfast room was so cold and dark, we ended up having our breakfast in a nearby place with pho (which was excellent by the way, the staff knows the way).
Review 118:The hotel was in a good location in the old quarter. The staff was helpful and nice, though not very knowledgeable (their directions to the train station ended up being completely wrong...).
Review 119:Nothing, as they helped with baggage (there are several steps) & gave me a quiet room when I asked.
Review 120:Excellent value for money if you want Old Quarter life & vibrancy at your doorstep, friendly supportive staff, help with any needs & plans, good map, quality linen, French flavour old-style trimmings, hot water, wifi and basic breakfast included. If quiet is important to you, ask for a room high up & they will oblige.
Review 121:I've been budget backpacking through Asia for a while and this by far one of the worst places I've stayed. It was relatively clean and had wifi etc, but in terms of the bed and "City view" it was terrible. Before we even sat on the bed you could see the springs popping through the surface of the mattress, and the view was power lines. We we're woken up at 6am with beeping horns and roadworks after the first night we did an overnight trip and used the room purely as storage and got back and found somewhere else to stay!
Review 122:The hotel staff were helpful and friendly
Review 123:The first friendly staff had too much interest other tours and services for sale. We have booked a bus trip and should be picked up in the morning at the hotel. When we wanted to leave the next morning, the whole place had been sleeping. We missed the bus, which was very annoying! The location is very good, the room was rather poor.
Review 124:Great location and staff were awesome.
Review 125:Great staff
