Reviews for Lake Shikotsu Tsuruga Resort Spa Mizu no Uta

Review 1:We were told karaoke room was not available whole day and night of 8 Jan even though nobody was using it.

Review 2:The Onsen was awesome. The hot spring water was clean and facilities were beautiful. Overall the hotel was amazingly clean. Great food

Review 3:The room we had was amazing! Just makes you not want to step out of your room except for meals. The staff also does well to pamper us. The hot spring facilities were top notch especially their outdoor onsen.

Review 4:Guest rooms are less detailed and attractive than public spaces. Our room did not have a view.

Review 5:Design of public spaces is terrific. Buffet meals are well designed and accommodate vegetarians gracefully.

Review 6:The buffet variety is not great.

Review 7:The room lay out is good to enjoy onsen in the room. The fireplace at the lobby and free supper is nice. The dessert is fantastic.

Review 8:The buffet dinner is so poor, the line of food is ok,but the amount is so few. They didn't even bother filling up the empty plate, and they are a lot of empty plates. The chef who servred steak's manner is so bad, he threw the cut up steak into the plate.

Review 9:The hotel over all is so nice, the place looks fantastic.

Review 10:I don't like buffet dinner & buffet breakfast. I have been to many many Onsen hotels. All of them either serve the meal in the room or in a private dining room. For this place, everything is so nice except the dining facilities. Buffet meals make the whole experience unrefined!

Review 11:The room is nice. I had an open air private bath and that's so cool.

Review 12:Must remove shoes entering the hotel reception area and walk bare foot to room, library, shopping and pillow gallery. Wonder if the floor is maintained dust free all the time. My socks turned black!

Review 13:If price is not an issue this one of the best resorts I have had stayed. We were welcome with a welcome drink. It has many levels of accommodation to suite the individual . Even the lower level of Twin Double comes with luxury fitting with enough space for four adults! We arrived late and had little time to explore the vast compound and the Shikotsu Lake. Dinner and breakfast are of excellent qualities. The spas for ladies and gentlemen were fully patronized . The private onsens were fully booked. Managed to use the Foot onsens and sufficed to put our legs fit for the next journey. We wish we could have stayed at least two nights to enjoy .OTANOSHI ! We would certainly come back next time. One can choose your favorite pillows at the Pillow Galery attended by a pleasant, patient lady.

Review 14:No air conditioning and room got quite hot. Opening up the window helped but garbage collection at 5am was very loud and annoying. Saving cost here is rediculous on an otherwise very nice hotel.

Review 15:The onsen was definitely the highlight. Very clean and nice. The hotel is also build very well and in an nice area on the lake.

Review 16:There were no bad experiences here.

Review 17:The room was exceptional; well-kept and of ample size with comfortable full-size beds and the amenities are good quality. The food at breakfast and dinner were delicious with a wide choice of dishes. The whole property is pretty and spacious and is set against a beautiful lake surrounded by volcanic mountains.

Review 18:We were here during winter, the shop houses beside the hotel and accessing the lake were all closed. We had all we need in the hotel though.

Review 19:Spacious bedroom, cleanliness, Live instrumental music performance, hot spring facilities, friendly staff.

Review 20:the stuff could have been more attentive and personable.

Review 21:The resort is in a nice little town just beside the lake, a very peaceful place to relax and enjoy snow and Onsen without the hassle of city. The resort feels impressively homey and comfy, with much of the lobby space built around a fireplace, which is a really nice social place. The private Onsen and the public Onsen are both quite good and relaxing. It also features a tax free shop which is basically a one stop shop for local products in this part of Japan.

Review 22:Was surprised breakfast and dinner were buffet-styled instead of kaiseki-style. Would be nice if private hot tub in room was a bit bigger and made of wood

Review 23:Staff extremely helpful and friendly

Review 24:Bedroom has twin beds It's a bit of a shame is that you are really close to the lake but you cannot really see it from the room unfortunately, as the trees are blocking the view. Unfortunately the level of English of the reception staff is very limited, however one of the concierge staff was able to help us out most of the time. The food in the buffet restaurant is not very impressive, although there is a lot of choice. On the first night they had a lot of western dishes, but with a Japanese twist. The second night was more Japanese focused, but we noticed that many dishes were the same as the night before. The sashimi did not seem super fresh and many of the dishes were decent, but nothing more than that. The desserts were really great though. If you want a dinner in the traditional restaurant, make sure you book it in advance as it fills up quickly and we were unable to get a reservation when trying to book on the day we wanted it. It is furthermore quite difficult to get any food between 5pm and 7pm, as the restaurant closes. The village next to the hotel only offers limited options for food and most places are also closed around this time. The village is very small and very touristy, so do not expect too much of it.

Review 25:We spend 2 nights in the presidential suite in this hotel for our wedding anniversary. The room was Huge. A large living area with 2 massage chairs with a nice view onto the trees and mountain tops, a small kitchen area, a bedroom, a tatami seating area and a balcony with an amazing private onsen. The water in the onsen is different from any other onsen we have been too, as it feels somehow a bit oily and leaves your skin feeling amazingly soft! Best onsen water we came across in Japan! The bathroom has really nice amenities, that help in keeping your skin stay soft. Because of the twin beds, we asked for our beds to be set up on the tatami area, so the futons were brought in and we were able to sleep really well. The hotel has a special area downstairs where you can pick out and even try your pillow which was a nice touch. The reception area is lovely with a live fire at night and a harpist playing live. The hotel has a really nice onsen area downstairs, with one of the onsens outdoors in a garden setup. Very lovely, and again the water is amazing! The lake is really beautiful (1 minute walk) and you can go on a boat ride or paddle away in a swan boat.

We furthermore went for a hike on one of the mountains (recommended to us at the tourist center in the village by someone who spoke English really well) which was lovely due to the views, but there are many mosquitoes! The foot bath in the garden of the hotel was very nice after the hike.

Review 28:Onsen is very small. Have communication issue with the staff at front desk -after checked out they just left our suitcases in the lobby did not help us to put them in our car. They really need to improve their English!
