Reviews for Pico do Refúgio - Casas de Campo

Review 1:Due to the age of building there were some bugs there, like centipedes and others that I can't name. As I didn't saw any on the bedroom it was fine be me.

Review 2:The place is beautiful. Location is a little hard to find, but is nice and close to the main cities. Breakfast is magnificent!

Review 3:The hosts gave us very useful tips and helped us to book our activity. We loved the cheese for breakfast which they make, the place is lovely and peaceful and everybody is extremely kind and helpful!

Review 4:Bed was a bit too soft for me but there are 2 other futons that were firmer and comfortable as well as a nice couch. Also a comfy couch. The area is humid so the place has a bit of a musty smell. There is a rather loud dehumidifier running but it can be turned off when sleeping. Don't let these dissuade you though. All in all the place is great.

Review 5:A ton of space, great design, well set up for an infant with a high chair, crib, bathtub, etc. Very homey. Great breakfast and friendly staff as week. Ricardo and Mafalda are so helpful. The pool looks great though it was a bit too cool and rainy when we were there.

Review 6:The apartments are very close to one another and to the property's entrance, which made it less private than we thought it would be. We had to switch rooms for our last night there - they said "Casa da Secagem" was already booked for that last night. Both their website and booking don't discern between apartments; you can only choose "loft" or "apartment", not exactly which one you want, so you may end up in a situation where you make a reservation for five days in an apartment but not necessarily the same apartment for everyday. We switched to "Casa do Pavão", which I wouldn't recommend; it's very humid, it smelled bad and the couch had stains on it. It was also right beside the laundry room, so there's even less privacy. Also, we were there as a couple, so sleeping in twin beds was not the ideal. We weren't even offered any sort of discount when we mentioned it to the staff. The wifi only works in the main house.

Review 7:The staff was very thoughtful, eg helping us with choosing and scheduling activities for the day. The first apartment we stayed in was "Casa da Secagem". We loved it, it's spacious, clean and comfortable. The property is very ample and beautiful.

Review 8:WiFi signal in the Loft. In the night you could be disturbed by the dog outside.

Review 9:Everything. I stayed in the loft with two of my friends. The living room and the beds and the kitchen were really nice. The bathroom is great comfort and big enough with all equipmentds . the water heater working great. The loft was cleaned daily and all the towles were changed daily. The place has a nice backyard with a nice looking swimming pool. However weather is cold to swim for me ;). Many tables and chairs were placed in the backyard to enjoy the quite and clean air nights. The breakfast was simple but great and was served with love.4 kinds of fresh cheese, 2 kinds of flakes and many types of fresh bread with toaster, fresh orange juice, home made lovely 4 types of jam, milk, coffee, water, and tea. The staff was asking daily for the preferred breakfast time, and Yes they will prepare it for you whenever you want to have it. The lady gave us a bottle of fresh jam that she made :) .Now let me talk a little bit about what great Staff we met in this lovely piece of art.First: the guy and the girl whom working there have a very good English language. We were three guys coming to sao Miguel without any plans where to go and what activities we should do and to not miss. However, we checked in late night. The guy gave us a map and some attraction papers and ask us to meet him in the morning. The next day he sat with us and open the map and wrote every single attraction point in the island and described each point. Further more, he asked us about our activities types thats we interested to do. He listed all kind of activities that suits us. He was talking to us as if we were his brothers or best friends. Answering each question kindly and with all needed answers. He gave us his mobile number so we can communicate through whatsapp or SMS anytime. He was a great advisor in this great island. He was contacting, reserving, and preparing all the activities that we want to do. I can't describe how kind they were. They added a lot of fun to our trip.a LOT.

Review 10:(Disclaimer: NONE of these "cons" were enough to make our stay anything less than wonderful) Wifi - Only available in the main building/lobby Noise - There was a neighbor dog who barked frequently at night, but we were so tired from exploring the island during the day that it wasn't much of an issue. Bed - A little hard for my liking, but again, we were so tired from hiking during the day that it was not really an issue.

Review 11:Staff - So friendly and helpful. Ricardo made so many great suggestions for things to see and places to eat. He never led us astray! Location - Central to the island and a quick 15-20 min drive to the airport. Setting - Beautiful and serene, a great view from the top of the hill on the property. Our apartment was very homey and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals.

Review 12:In our unit the furnishings were somewhat Spartan and not very comfortable. The lighting was poor in the bedroom and living room area.

Review 13:The staff was wonderful ,very kind and helpful. The grounds were lovely and the location is a short drive to many sights and restaurants around the island. It would be great for a family due to the space and kitchenette facilities.

Review 14:The staff went out of there way to make sure our stay was enjoyable and that we didn't miss anything the island has to offer. Wish we stayed longer!

Review 15:Room has a musty smell - source was not clear.

Review 16:Warm, friendly staff with good advice about area attractions and restaurants. Kitchen was well equipped.

Review 17:- The bathroom wasn't that clean.Stains in the bath tube, hair on the floor from the previous gusets. - carpet in front of the fireplace ( can be dangerous) - Wifi. couldn't access in the room. Had to go out in the cold/rain for wifi

Review 18:The staff! They were extremely nice & helpful.& I love the idea of the breakfast basket. It was so lovely and delicious.

Review 19:It was the best place to stay in Sao Miguel. We had a huge modern apartment with a fireplace. The view from windows open on to the fields - amazing, especially when you have breakfast. Breakfast deserves special thanks: it was brought to our apartment and included delicious and home-made dishes: the tenderest azorean cheese, fresh juice, outstanding coffee, jam, ham and so on. It's a perfect morning - with gorgeous view, with such breakfast. Ricardo was very helpful: he gave us some good advice for restaurants near this place and around. And helped us to book the table at Furnas for trying cusido (mmmmm!:) ) From My point of view, Pico de Refugio is a must for staying at the Azores.

Review 20:I'll try to make it short, many right things have been said in previous reviews. (Only we had no problems with barking dogs at night, maybe it depends on where you are located on the property.) After we had visited other islands in the Azores was Sao Miguel our last stop, and Pico Do Refugio the cherry on the cake. We had one of the lofts for 4 nights, and I can say that we had a super stay. Very large and nicely decorated, stylish and modern. And it's very clear that the owner loved contemporary art. But the best thing about our stay were our hosts, Ricardo and Mafalda were fantastic, your best friends can't receive you better then them. Thanks again ;-)

Review 21:the location, beautiful views Ricardo the manager very nice and helpful person, He definitely makes sure that your are Ok

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:Everything is good

Review 24:Architecture, design and care for the history of the place. Swimming pool, calm and quiet environment. The black dog and the cat!

Review 25:On rainy days the loft gets quite humid. The heaters help with cold damp, and there is a dehumidifier that dries the air every hour or so. Unfortunately the machine is too noisy to keep on at night. The loft is kept very clean, but (maybe because its proximity to nature) we did have some problems with ants marching over the floors and furniture from time to time. The landlord gave us some insecticide which helped keep the ant invation under control.

Review 26:The loft was spacious and bright, nice and functional design (though provided by Ikea). Beautiful view to the garden, pool and surrounding hills - this really is a wonderful place to relax. Delicious breakfast with fresh local products. The lovely people who help run this place were really helpful and went out of their way to arrange activities for us all around the island. Many sights and some beautiful beaches (e.g. Santa Barbara) are just a short drive away.

Review 27:Room was not very clean. It had rained the previous weeks, so the room was a bit damp, with a bit akward smell. Not one good restautant in the village.

Review 28:Very big room, we stayed in the loft. Design of the room, althouh most furniture was from Ikea. Nice view on the country side. Very kind owner. Delicious local breakfast with fresh local products every day.

Review 29:A peaceful countryside place from where you can base your activities in São Miguel island. It's also family friendly and has a helpful and caring staff!
